Boff - I have been wondering if using the birthing pool in hospital might not be such a great idea wrt infections. What do you think?

BoffinMum · 23/03/2009 16:08

No Nutty. Go into the crease between your thigh and the lower part of your abdomen. Palpate with the fingertips and lower third section of your second and third fingers. Have a good feel and see if you can slide any lumps around. Check if they are painful when you do this. I wish I was over there as I am good at lymph glands!!

SpringySunshine · 23/03/2009 16:09

Not a pain in the bottom, exactly

(I genuinely am sympathetic, but have nothing helpful to add, so am throwing some levity into the mix to keep spirits up )

BoffinMum · 23/03/2009 16:09

Schulte, I have only read one case of infection as a result of water birth and that was legionella in a domestic jacuzzi. Hospitals are normally very thorough in washing out the pipes and so on, so I woulnd't be worried.

BabyBolat · 23/03/2009 16:11

LOL springy - sorry Nutts, I am with Springy - am here for you but have no advice so will giggle like a child at Springy's posts

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 23/03/2009 16:15

Boffin - had a prod around, cant really say that i can feel any lumps as such but am really sore now, everything from just above my pubic line is very puffy and pillowlike though

Hi everyone
bronze - bloody hell I am thinking of you and DS, there is nothing more worrying than having a sick child. Let us know how you get on, I'm sure he'll be fine (((hugs)))
nutty - ROFL at you giving toilets knighthoods!
nutty & schulte - to you both having no symptoms so far; wouldn't it just be a crazy twist from mother nature if you 2 are the next to go? And it's not impossible either, some women get no pre-labour symptoms. Tis the beauty of being unique.
ginger - I'm using this CD
I've so far only heard it right through once though as every other time I've listened to it I've fallen asleep. No matter how hard I try to stay awake, it relaxes me so much I fall asleep. It says it's ok I'll still be getting benefit from it but I'd love to actually manage to hear what it says again!
juw - ROFL at you giving your perineum a stern talking to
purple - totally agree about taking bets on who'll go next, weight etc. I'm doing this with my family and friends. It makes the wait a tiny bit easier!
puzzle - well done with the stats, they are very interesting. I like stuff like that.
boff - good about the show, things are moving along nicely!
BB - I think you should tell the nice hospital people your concerns about nasty bitch MW and see what they can do. They will know best what the options are in your area, and by the sound of it, would be extremely supportive.
springy - sorry to hear about your friend. I do agree your text was good and you have done what you can as her friend. Don't feel selfish, you are entitled to be concerned about these kind of things. Chin up, you did good.
Well today I am washing all the baby clothes, blankets etc and will pack my hospital bag. I'm not nesting though. At least it doesn't feel that way. I don't have a tremendous motherly urge to do lovely things in preparation for baby coming, I just thought bloody hell I have a big pile of things sitting there waiting on me, better get a shift on, bloody washing. YUK.

Talking about degrees and all that, I never got that far. I left school at 16 after getting 8 GCSE's. Headed straight to college and spent the next few years trying all sorts of courses.
I have done:
Horse management
Outdoor pursuits (although didn't complete this, it cost too much)
Blacksmithing & fabrication
Welding & fabrication
Metal arts
Loved all of the courses and I would love to pursue a career as an artist blacksmith, making metal sculptures and interior furniture. All I need is a workshop with a forge in it. Would be a dream come true.
Ok have rambled on quite a bit here, sorry!

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 23/03/2009 16:19

BB & Springy - tis fine i find it quite funny myself in a kinda strange sorta "ok what else could possibly go wrong" way.

right got a doctors appointment at 5.40

OP posts:
BoffinMum · 23/03/2009 16:59

I am very relieved. Here's your checklist.

  1. Swab, lymph nodes and temperature.
  2. Possibly broad spectrum antibiotics to tide you over until swab result comes back.
  3. Steroid cream or even Trimovate cream if they let you have it (that's steroid, anti fungal and antibiotic all in one)
  4. Possible blood test for blood sugar on the spot, or booking in for glucose challenge gestational diabetes test.

Does that sound OK, NHS people???

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 23/03/2009 17:01

Boffin - thank you xxx

OP posts:
BoffinMum · 23/03/2009 17:05

And emphasise to them you think this is an infection and not just thrush. Remind them you are going to be having enough problems giving birth vaginally given the prevailing state of your back and hips, without your fanjo skin being on fire.

SpringySunshine · 23/03/2009 17:14

Trista, what a great mix of stuff you've done! I'm very of you people with artistic talent!

"please don't put lipstick on your fanjo lips. Or your grape" is one of the best things I've read all year

& haha, maybe this is what the Kings Of Leon were singing about in 'Sex On Fire'

BabyBolat · 23/03/2009 17:15

please can you use those exact words nutty - pretty pretty please.... - sorry I will be good now....

BabyBolat · 23/03/2009 17:16

Springy stop it I'm giggling away like a 3-year old when they hear naughty words - whoever edits this particular thread is going to have fun!!!

tristaleejac · 23/03/2009 17:25

springy - I love making things, I always have to have a project on the go. Right now it's the wraps for carrying the baby, before that were the belly casts and birthday cakes. I also make dreamcatchers, which is time consuming but loads of fun.
Ooh, and I made the vivarium for my bearded dragon [proud emoticon]
