DH is Greek, so names have been a bit tricky. I think we'll try to find a Greek boys name we both like since bubs will have DH's surname (which sounds very greek) and my surname as a middle name (I kept my maiden name).

Kalikaroo · 24/03/2009 15:31

Dh keeps suggesting really greek names that sound a bit ridiculous to me!

It's amazing how men fixate on horrible names

Claireykitten · 24/03/2009 15:31

It an all over colour and hightlighting kit type one. Ordinarily when it comes to highlights I do say sod the money and go to the hairdressers but we really really cant afford it now what DH earns now gets spent we used to have this thing called savings but not any more! I know I possibly have 3 weeks to go and we could book another time but it is quite normal for her to end up at work on her day off or like most people she has other things to do.

I just feel really pathetic getting myself all upset ( I am now in tears) over something so trival but before we had DS I was always getting my hair done or getting my nails done and now I do none of it. I was just so looking forward to hopefully looking nice again.

B52s · 24/03/2009 15:33

We have a shortlist of 2 boys names. Sam or Jasper. To go with DS1, who is a Zach. I think it's hard enough trying to think of names when you both speak the same language, let alone having to consider how it would sound in Welsh / Greek / Scandanavian. I liked 'Bear' for a while but that got vetoed.

Saw my MW this morning - all looking good so far, is apparently 3/5ths engaged but 'may pop in and out'. She's visiting for a HB set-up next Thursday.

Kalikaroo · 24/03/2009 15:36

Ooh - I like Sam! That'll go really well with Zach. I'm a bit biased against Jasper because my friend's dog is called Jasper!

I quite liked the name Markos, but apparently DH's grandad had a really violent mule with that name....!

LuLuBai · 24/03/2009 15:36

Oh Clairey - we've all felt that way I'm sure. Wait for Nutty to appear and I'm sure she will be able to tell you how to get a beautiful DIY job done. Then perhaps you can get DH to look after DS for a few hours at the weekend. Give yourself an extra long bath with a facemask, then a pedicure, manicure etc etc.

B52s · 24/03/2009 15:38

I read that as 'a really violet mule' what a pleasent mental image. Does anyone else other than your DH remember that purple mule's behaviour? Markos sounds very exotic (to my ears) and I like it a lot.

LuLuBai · 24/03/2009 15:39

B52s - I ran Jasper past DH just this morning. He vetoed it instantly but I think you should definitely go for it. Works v. well with Zach.

Kali I know a few Anglo / Greek couples. Two of them have Dimitris and one Constantine. The others have more English names.

LuLuBai · 24/03/2009 15:41

I think having a violent (or violet) mule as a namesake is pretty cool!

Kalikaroo · 24/03/2009 15:41

'violet mule' I think most of his family know the story of the mule as it's a bit of a legend! So, maybe it wouldn't be that great..!

Swaliswan · 24/03/2009 15:43

Maybe that was a false alarm about DD waking up. She was disturbed by someone banging the communal back door of our block of flats

Anyway, back to my little moan about still being pg...

I know that it is still a bit soon for this baby to come out as I'm only 35+3 but DD was born at 34+6 so I'm the most pg that I've ever been. I just want to meet our LO now and find out if it is a boy or a girl. I want to know when it is going to come rather than wondering if I will manage to hang on until my due date or if I'll have another early baby. People are already starting to ask if I'm still pg and this could go on for weeks I'm so frustrated that I felt unable to continue working past 32 weeks as my job was so physically challenging whilst pg and now I'm sat around I want to have as much time with this baby before going back to work as possible. I think that it is the not knowing when to expect to give birth that is really getting to me. So many people in my family keep going on about how I'm going to have this baby early but I'm really not sure that I will anymore.

I'm fed up of not being able to wear normal-person clothes, have normal-person sex, go for a run or stop just sitting on the sofa eating crap. I want to get on with life without a massive bump. I want to be able to wash up without it hurting my back because I have to bend over my bump. I want to be able to push the pushchair and get it up the steps to our flat without hitting my bump. I want to be able to walk the 1.5 miles to The Common without having to be so slow that DD is getting bored or needing to stop for a wee on the way.

I WANT THIS BABY OUT!

LuLuBai · 24/03/2009 15:45

How about Nikos - can be Nik in the UK if he wants.

There are such gorgeous Greek girl's names - so maybe you just need to hope and pray for a girl (that's kind of where I am as at the moment the thought of introducing my son as Reginald, Sword, Jarrow or Cecil makes me want to weep!)

conkertree · 24/03/2009 15:49

springy and nutty - i'm Scottish and have only ever had half a deep fried mars bar - not cause it wasnt quite nice but it was just for curiosity sake and didnt feel the need to try it again. Is deep fried pizza a scottish thing or not? its the one i find bizarre but its pretty popular in the east end of glasgow at least.

and just reading last nights posts so may be irrelevant now but i dont need good porn - i got really quite turned on by Rita Sue and Bob too -

schulte - sorry to hear that dd will be off nursery. chickenpox going round ds's playgroup too - so far just one child, but will expect more in the next week or so.

lulu- agree with the others that its great if dh doesnt have a clue - she can make a bit of a fool of herself cause he is clearly not interested.

springy and bb - both sounding exciting for the rest of us not having too long to wait for some more thread babies.

purplemonkey - good point dh's birthday is first week in May - might be worth getting some things in now.

bb - my goodness - never seen so many people find their own cervix. maybe i'll have to give it a go later too.

bronze - that sounds horrible - poor ds. glad he's ok though.

kitty - mine went up a lot at the end of pg with ds but was fine - think you have a good excuse to sit on the sofa and mn or watch films for two days.

swaliswan - poor you - i felt like that yesterday but that was partly cause ds was being rather challenging. today he's being lovely and i am quite happy to still be pg. also parents are coming down tomorrow and havent seen them for ages so that will make a nice change - but it will all be over soon. cant be more than another 6/7 weeks at the very most.

LuLuBai · 24/03/2009 15:49

Swali - I don't actually want the baby to come out just yet, but I'm with you on being sick of the bump. I am very sick of struggling to get things out of the shopping trolley at the check out, straining to pull up my maternity jeans and having to push DD away when she hurls herself at me for fear she's going to damage the bump. (and yes very very bored of trying to find ways to have sex with a huge bump in the way)

bronze · 24/03/2009 15:50

This child is going to be known as 'the child with no name'

Kalikaroo · 24/03/2009 15:52

I like Nikos, but a close relative of DH already has that name. Greek girls names are lovely and it's been easy to choose ones we like, but boys names are tricky.

Oh Swaliswan . You sound really fed up.

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 24/03/2009 15:53

LuLu - lol i will be trecking round to see you all anyway just out of curiosity i can pack my magic wand though

BB - i will help you with those biscuits

Clairey - can you not just do the all over colour bit and leave the highlighting till your friend is available?? (i wouldnt even attempt to highlight my own hair tbh sorry but just doing the base colour would be fine) and if you just do the base at least it would be a bit of a change and may perk you up a bit?

B52s - yay for good mw visit

Swaliswan ((hugs)) xx

we have our first names picked but not sure about the middle name for a boy - want it to be after someone but just not sure who.

ds's middle name is after my dad, so obvious choice would be fil but neither of us like his name (dont think he does much either). think i've talked about this before but many threads ago - i'd quite like a name from my family as we have dh's surname - and also not many other nice male names in his family. he's not against that idea, but wants to explain it to his dad just incase they are offended.

B52s · 24/03/2009 15:57

Bronze - that'll be a 'Clint' then.

gingersarah · 24/03/2009 15:57

The HR director has just told me to take a full year off if at all possible. How to make a girl feel wanted! I can't believe how nice work are being to me. It is like a different company from a year ago. If only I knew I had a job to go back to!

I have several internal meetings to fit in still this afternoon before I'm out of here and I just can't pin people down and can now hardly walk to find out where they are and who they want in the meetings and get on with things. I think I am just going to have to sit here and email people till I can go home.

Swaliswan · 24/03/2009 15:58

I think that DD might be waking up properly this time and it's about time that I went and got her up otherwise she won't sleep tonight. I'll pop back in later.

Kalikaroo · 24/03/2009 15:58

The more I think about it the more I like the name Markos...!

Arrgggghhhhh!

LuLuBai · 24/03/2009 16:01

Conker - same here - I have agreed that if we have a boy he gets a middle name from my family on the grounds that he will have DH's surname anyway. So middle name Hugh after my gf which is quite an easy name to slot in the middle of something, being only one syllable.

LuLuBai · 24/03/2009 16:03

Kali - would it be such an issue that your baby shared a name with a long deceased mule?

It's a good name and easy to say in English (which can't be said for all Greek names) and I think that the mule connection is quite quirky.

Kalikaroo · 24/03/2009 16:07

Think I'll run it past DH again. He wasn't very keen on it when I suggested it before (I didn't know about the mule at that point ). I also like another name boys name which is Greek, but DH knows someone with the same name who he can't stand which is putting him off it. I told DH that I actually had a real aversion to his name before we met because there was a boy at school with the same name who caused me to break my arm. I think you can get over that sort of thing, and DH does admit that it's a good name.
