Hi everyone. I'm glad you've all been talking about your blood tests as this alerted me to the fact that I should be telephoning the hospital to book mine! Luckily, I'm still in time and am off to get this done tomorrow. Haven't got a 20 week scan until June though as they couldn't fit me in before then - I'll be about 21+ by then (don't know if I can hold out that long!). Still sicky and not eating as well as other pgs but trying not to stress over it. Also pains down one thigh which I've never had before - feel a bit like a very old lady! This is DEFINITELY the last baby!!!

My bump is turning into a kind of egg/football shape and is suddenly sticking right out & all at the front (think I'm 17 wks tomorrow). It does show early on me as I'm a shortie. At 6 months, I look as if I'm about to drop any minute.

Good luck to everyone with scans/test results etc.

alterego · 03/05/2005 18:58

Is everyone feeling movement now? I'm 16+4wks and haven't felt anything yet. I can't remember when I first felt anything with my other pregnancies. Should I be worried? Still no sign of a booking in appointment. And what are the blood tests? Do they need to be done by a particular time?

Lexie100 · 03/05/2005 19:02

Just been to pregnancy yoga! Very interesting but good. Loads of breathing stuff. Also had a few of the old girls come in and talk about their births. Really brings it home. Anyone considering a home birth or homeopathic stuff??? I hadn't till now, not home birth, but might think of taking a few herby things. Time for food me starving....again.

Elf1981 · 03/05/2005 19:53

First movements vary quite a lot in the weeks they say you can feel them. Think with a first pregnancy its 16 - 22 weeks, but also depends on how big you are in the first place. App larger ladies take a longer time to feel the kicks. So I'm trying not to get too worried. Keep thinking I have felt something, like little bubbles on the inside (?!) but probably reading things into things like indegestion! I am 17 weeks tomorrow.
Second pregnancies plus, I think they say it's from 14 weeks.

A good page to go on is: lookiehere

Hello!!

I had a lovely scan on friday!! I saw an expert scanner and he did a detailed check of the baby (which i wasn't expecting until 20 weeks which is in 3 weeks time) and all is well. the bladder is still looking fine, the kidneys are fine and there is loads of fluid around the baby. you could even see the four chambers of the heart and some detail of the brain. amazing!! we were also told the sex, but i have to admit i didn't see the evidence for myself. we are both really chuffed, but it is strictly a secret for the time being. all round very happy at the mo. still not getting much distinguishable movement, but very occasionally i can feel it. apparently it is because the placenta is anterior, so baby is kicking that and not me!!! anyway, i can't wait until i can feel consistent movement.
that is all for now, off to watch hustle....

SusiS · 04/05/2005 08:04

morning ladies!

not much going on really.
having the odd pain in my right boob and i already started waddling
dp thinks it's funny! but it really hurts; and bubs isn't even that big yet to put much weight/pressure on down there yet

but besides that i am allright! tiredness is fading away and i am not that exhausted. which is quite nice. - well, it's getting really tough carrying around ds! and playing on the floor with him is fun untill i try to get back up again

OP posts:
triceratops · 04/05/2005 08:40

Oooh I can sympathise with the waddling. My hips seemed to pop out last week and ever since then I have been doing the pregnant shuffle. Dh says it looks hillarious as I dont have a bump yet. I do like a supportive husband (has anybody got one I can borrow?).

mishmash2 · 04/05/2005 09:08

Morning ladies!

No kicking for me as yet and I'm 18 wks today... I don't have my scan until 1st June so long time to wait for the reassurance I need. Mind you, the bump is increasing in size every day so hopefully that will put my mind at rest even if I hate standing on the scales every day and seeing it go up! Tiredness seems much better - could have gone to bed at 11 last night but DH dragged me off at 10! I'm very impressed Joseyjo that you aren't telling us the sex yet! I'm glad that you are happy though!

tew · 04/05/2005 09:50

Bizarely, although my bump is getting bigger, don't seem to be putting on weight. Probably cos I didn't lose it all after dd! Anyone else experience same thing?

bonniej · 04/05/2005 10:11

oh Joseyjo go on tell us!! Well done for being able to keep it a secret. Just over a week and I'll find out mine (i'm useless at keeping secrets so I'll tell everyone ) I'm sure you're the first person to find out the sex on this thread. It'd be interesting to see if everyone who finds out is given the correct sex! I am putting on weight along with my bump but only recently really. For a while I could see the bump growing but wasn't putting anything on. Has anyone else got bump ache? It's weird and only happens in the evenings but it feels like the bump needs supporting. When i go to bed i have to rest it on a pillow or it aches. Is this normal? It's only small at the moment so wonder what it'll feel like when it gets bigger. I am feeling movements but haven't felt anything for over a day now so am of course starting to worry....again! Oh well good luck to everyone with 20 week scans coming up and once again Joseyjo......PLEASE TELL!!!!!

Lexie100 · 04/05/2005 12:03

We don't want to know the sex of our baby..is everyone finding out?

Oh stress - car broken down, house not selling and husband just about to change job.

Oh a good note. I seem to be getting bigger everyday. Yep twinges and bump feels a little heavy in the evening but don't need pillow at night yet.

Went to mothercare yesterday, could have spent a million! Came out not having bought a thing. Do you think it's too early?

bonniej · 04/05/2005 13:47

Lexie, I wish I could wait until the birth to find out the sex but I'm just an impatient person. Someone said it's like unwrapping your presents before Christmas, but I still know I won't be able to resist asking next Friday. Let's hope bubs cooperates and is in the right position otherwise we might have to wait! I haven't actually bought anything yet, but will start once next Friday's out of the way and I know everythings ok. Can't wait to start buying baby clothes as now have enough maternity clothes to see me through

alterego · 04/05/2005 14:27

I think bump is getting bigger. Lots of friends are saying so although I think that's mainly because I'm not hiding it any more. Reassuring that you haven't all been feeling movements. Lots of twinges in lower belly and can't sneeze without supporting the bump otherwise it's agony. Dizziness gone too.

No replies re. blood tests - what are they and do they need to be done at 16-18 weeks? another thing to hassle the GP about?

Jockey · 04/05/2005 14:58

Hi alterego - today I had an appointment for the "triple test" (the leaflet I was given says: "serum screening for down's syndrome and neural tube defects such as spina bifida") which should be done at 16-18 weeks in my area. I discussed it with the hospital midwife first and wondered whether to have it or not, since I had already had a nuchal scan with a low risk result. It might be worth following up with your GP/midwife to discuss all the aspects of it. Hope that helps.

As far as I know, that's the end of it until 20 week scan. I won't be finding out the sex of the baby - they don't generally give that info out anyway so will just have to wait....

Joseyjo · 04/05/2005 15:26

you will all have to wait as i am not telling!!!
our compromise on the whether or not to find out debate is to find out, but not tell anyone. it worked well last time. it is longer to keep it a secret this time though as we have found out earlier.... a big strain for me to keep shtum!!

i am currently trying to convince dh to take me on holiday for a week. i have got all the details and the prices now so tonight i will see if i can finish the campaign and wear down his defences!!

17 weeks left at work (not that i am counting or anything!!) and i can't wait.

i am definitely getting bump ache and sneezing is agony - it feels like all the muscles in the sides of the bottom of my tummy are ripping...very unpleasant. hayfever is not helping with that.

i am supposed to be working and i have spent the whole day on the sofa reading my book - i am officially a bad person!!

roseybump · 04/05/2005 15:56

hi!
I'm another October 2005 preggers mum - 2nd time around - ds is 15 months now. Funny but I just dont seem to have the time to think about this pregnancy like I did the last one -_ I have to keep reminding myself how many weeks I am - 17. Bump was very active at 14 weeks this time, but has gone quiet recently - probably listening to the flack that ds1 is getting and thinking it best to keep quiet! I'm HUGE this time though - and not just the bump - very distressing (on account of the Pringles binges)! Does anyone else have a midwife who's a bit wobbly with the old blood tests? My arms will never be the same again!

tew · 04/05/2005 16:04

Hi Rosybump, good to talk to another second time round mum. Dd is only 8 months old, so when my new one is due around 20th Oct, will have my hands full! Think you've managed the gap rather better than me!

Totally agree about not giving this one much time though, never remember how pregnant I am (16 wks tom I think) and the only time I concentrate is at night, when I rub cream into bump! No wonder middle children get a complet (I'm a middle child!!)

roseybump · 04/05/2005 16:09

Hi Tew - its difficult eh!? My loyalties are definately still with ds1 - I really ought to do things for bump - like talk to it and things like I did first time around! You've just reminded me about the old stretch cream - I am so tired by the end of the night I'm lucky if my teeth get cleaned! I will pay for it later!Think the age gap you have will be fine as your dd will not be at the jealous stage! It will be a nice age gap and they can play together! My ds at the moment gets annoyed if I pay too much attention to the tv and not read to him!! I think we will both be in for a shock though - how on earth to manage with two!!!!???

tew · 04/05/2005 16:17

I think it's going to be very hard, but at least dd won't be aware of what's going on! I'd only just gone back to work part time when I got pregnant again, hardly ideal! Wanted them close together, but not this close!!

Many hands is the only answer I think.

SusiS · 04/05/2005 18:35

good to see others are as 'scared' as i am! my ds is 1yr now - so no idea yet how to cope with 2 !!!!
and i completly agree. i pay not much attention to this pregnancy at all! just too busy, just like you two

can't wait for my ds to finally walk, so i don't have to carry him everywhere!

OP posts:
Elf1981 · 04/05/2005 19:01

Bonniej - I tend to get "bump ache" too, so have taken to sleeping on my side with a thinish pillow under my bump.
Also, I've not put weight on (keep jumping on the scales every morning) but tummy is getting bigger. Is my fat being re-distrubuted or something?!!

I'm convinced I've been feeling some fluttery little movements, and had my hand on my tummy tonight when I got home from work and was sure I felt a little prod... DH says probably my imagination!

Did anybody not have to give a urine sample at their second midwife appointment? I thought everytime it should be checked for sugar and protine? Didn't have to give one at last visit, midwife asked if I'd brought a sample in. My reaction? "In what?!" Didn't realise I should lug my wee around in a jug!! She said she'd sort out some sample pots to give me for next visit, but didn't. I thought it was more "wee on demand" at these visits, like my first one had been! Can anybody clarify?

Everybody seems cheerful today. So jealous of those who are finding out the sex... DH wants to wait. Grrr

jolovett · 05/05/2005 09:27

So jealous of you finding out the sex. DH wants a surprise when it's born and it doesn't look like he's budging. I'm thinking of approaching him with the lets leave it to fate to decide as we can't. If the baby wants us to know what it is it will show itself in the scan. I'm pretty sure we'll find out as we're having that 4d scan done in July and they're supposed to be really clear. I really want to know what it is and it's so frustrating that DH doesn't.

I went through a box of things we'd been picking up for the baby along the way yesterday - didn't realise we had so much, think we can slow down now and concentrate on getting on the house finished being built. That seems to be taking forever at the moment - most of the inside stuff is done except for the plasterboards, but we can't put them up until the bricking is finished and we've had a nightmare with brickies - they're latest excuse for not turning up is that they have caught the mange! Never mind, as soon as the plasterboards are up I'm intending on starting my maternity leave to get all the decorating done. I've got an army lined up to help on that front so even though the house is huge if I send a team into each room we should get it done in no time!

Still haven't put on any weight - lost some in the beginning but just stayed the same now. I was convinced I'd put on as my bump is huge now, but nope.

Last night I could feel JJ moving around and when I pressed my hand into that place I felt a little flick! DH wasn't home though so he was bit disappointed he missed it. Waited patiently for more movement but they must have gone to sleep for the night.

triceratops · 05/05/2005 11:27

I have been given loads of boys baby clothes. I wonder if I will be using them?

I have kept a couple of things from ds1 when he was very new that I am sentimental about. I don't know if I want to use them on the new baby or if I want to keep them special in ds's keepsake box. I am a bit ahead of myself here, I know. What do you think?

SusiS · 05/05/2005 12:45

we are well sorted if it's a boy! but who knows - really can't wait to find out on tuesday (hopefully)!

how is everyone doing?

my bump is growing and growing; walking around is getting quite hard; especially with pushchair and uphill - it starts feeling pregnant now!!!
also some pelvic pains; very difficult to sleep; hungry all the time; in bed by 9 (latest 10)pm

but besides that i am great

montaguemonkey · 05/05/2005 12:56

Hello all,

Not had time to post messages for a while, but have been trying to keep up with thread when have a chance.

In Edinburgh we only get a 12 week, scan, so do not find out sex of the baby - which I like as it was a great surprise last time!

Is everyone having the blood test for Downs etc? I am swithering and may well not bother, there is no way I would not continue with a pregnancy so it is more just about being ready I suppose...

Also, I know it is a bit early, but is anyone else thinking about the birth, I am meeting the midwife in a couple of weeks and will bring up the idea of a home birth. I had a hospital birth with my first, but it would be so much easier to have this one at home. Only problem is last time I was Group B strep, so that may mean I need antibiotics, we shall see...

Finally, antenatal yoga - FAB!! I loved it last time and will try to go again this time, if we can afford it. I met two great pals who have kids the same age and that kept me sane for the first 3 months!

Bye Bye, sounds like everyone has got over the worst of the sickness, etc!
