ruthiemum - i am not sure how big the items get. i know that all of the stuff sold is brought in by the seller (or so i think anyway) but that shouldn't be too restrictive. also 25% of the money made goes to NCT which has to be a bonus!!
Failing that have a look on ebay!!

ruthiemum · 28/04/2005 13:18

Good old ebay! Has anyone had their blood took by student mw - she was a lovely girl but it has put me off for life. Had it done yesterday and no vein was found and it took ages for her to find one and she had to ask other mw to be sure, I thought I was going to be sick. I'm just praying I don't need any more taken!

Lexie100 · 28/04/2005 13:30

Thank all for advice. Will have to go and have a play with pushchairs.

As for booking in appointment alterego mine is tomorrow (16 weeks exactly) and i'm excited nervous. No news on when my next scan is. Hopefully find out tomorrow. Really want to hear HB as the fall and burn have scared me a bit. I can feel loads of stretching though so not too worried.

mawbroon · 28/04/2005 14:01

Hello all.

I'm jealous at the mention of all these 20 week scans. They only one at 12 weeks here unless there are any probs. They have also stopped testing for CF as well.
We decorated the spare room a couple of months before I became pregnant, so there is nothing needing doing in there other than getting the cot etc. My boss is selling me all her baby stuff so no need to worry about doing all the research and making the choices regarding the pram/cot/etc etc I think we will need the trailer!!

Hope you are all feeling well.

jessicasmummy · 28/04/2005 14:05

we've got a double urban detour as dd will be 14.5 months so will deffo still be in buggy! probably not what i would have gone for myself, but my mate gave it to me for nothing and she has only used it 3 times! saved a good £250 there!
praying for a boy still - but who knows - i wont know til its born as my hosp wont sex the baby!
feeling fine other than tired.... but with a 9 month old still waking in the night, hardly suprising!

jolovett · 28/04/2005 14:26

We bought a Chicco Trio Travel system from Babies'R'Us. Did a lot of research and this one seemed about the best. It cost £400 for the carrycot, carseat and pushchair. We decided we wanted a carrycot as I feel that the baby always looks restricted in those carseats and you're advised not to leave the baby in those carseats for over an hour - which means a trip to town may result in a few rest stops.

Everything is detachable for washing and the pushchair folds down flat and inwards like a stroller. It's also freestanding when folded with a handle to drag it along on the wheels. With my s-i-l pushchair I've always found it difficult to carry it to the car - always manage to jam my fingers somewhere - so this was a plus point on this system. Plus, the pushchair comes into the 'stroller' category at the airport so can be shipped on hols with you for free - a full size pushchair costs extra, so we're figuring it will save us buying a stroller in the future.

We did get offered a 2-in-1 system from b-i-l but its a Graco one and I've seen a few of them fall apart after a few months. The one we've bought seems very sturdy and looks like it will last if we have anymore babies.

With regards to the nursery - we've chosen to do it out in the Winnie the Pooh range from Babies'R'Us but can't do it yet as house isn't finished being built! Going to take my maternity leave early to get all the decorating done.

I've actually lost 4lbs since getting pg, it's wierd. Don't think it will last long though the size my bump is getting - should start gaining soon.

Jockey · 28/04/2005 14:54

Cori - I'm so sorry to hear the news. Take good care xxx

Triceratops - hope you are feeling better now.

Joseyjo - good luck with your scan - how exciting. You could always drop us a big hint about the sex! Like some of you, I won't know about the sex of mine until babba pops out as my hospital don't give out that information (unless you have an amnio apparently).

All these second hand bargains sound a brilliant idea. I must do some hunting around myself but had better see what's stored in the loft first! Haven't thought about prams but will probably get a buggy board for my 3 year old.

Hope everyone that's been feeling lousy starts to feel better very soon. So much for it all lifting at 12 weeks! I've managed to throw up in Toys 'r' Us but at least the loo was nearby!

As for memory - what was that I was saying again? Eh? I feel a right airhead at the moment (even worse than usual!).

Elf1981 · 28/04/2005 22:16

Hi all.

Had second appointment today, got to hear the heartbeat. Was amazing! Haven't had blood results back from slapped cheek test, but did get results back from my first blood tests, which were fine. Just got to ring up in the week to find out about the other, which is what I was concerned about.

Also discussed the fact I am not putting weight on - told not to worry, that the baby will take what it needs from me, which is great as I admit to stressing myself out about losing weight. How can I put it back on if I can only nibble on food, and also have to battle with morning sickness?!!

I've got next scan on 7th June, which makes me nearly 22 weeks pregnant. Wish it were earlier, I'm very impatient!!

Hope all are well

Elf xxxx.

Lexie100 · 29/04/2005 07:36

Elf1981 i hope your blood test results are all clear.

I have my booking in appointment at 8.30 and i'm already ready. Think i maybe a little nervous!
Found a slip of paper which said that if i wanted a 20 week scan to phone and book in. So should have done that at least 3 months ago, ops. I wondered why i hadn't heard anything. Rather worried now they won't be able to fit me in. Will ask midwife and hopefully get date today.

Hope everyone has a good day

bonniej · 29/04/2005 08:41

lexie, good luck with your booking appointment. i really enjoyed mine as you have a nice long time to discuss everything and ask any questions. My midwife is nice, which helps. I've only got 2 weeks to wait until my 20 week scan and am sooooo looking forward to it. Will be asking sex so hope babs is lying in the right position. As soon as I know I can start buying things. Can't wait good luck to everyone else with scans and test results. I was worried about not putting on weight due to bad morning sickness but have made up for it now sickness has gone. Not eating loads but have managed to put on about 6lbs so far which hopefully is about right. Have been warned by the midwife not to put on more than 2 stones througout the pregnancy as because I'm older it's harder to lose! (thanks, I'm only 33) Anyway not sure about which buggy. Have a travel system I used for dd (who will be 2 when baby comes). but even though she's walking most everywhere there are still occassions when I need a buggy for her, not sure whether to buy a double or not. Can't see her cooperating with a buggy board, but don't fancy a large double buggy either. Any ideas anyone??

triceratops · 29/04/2005 10:19

I spoke to my mum at the weekend and she was looking at my scan photos (I have got three now). We were discussing how it makes a huge difference to how you feel about your baby once you have seen it moving. When she had her babies it was almost unheard of to know the gender before birth but I know I will be upset if I don't find out next month. When I saw that little skeleton wriggling around I just fell in love (again). I was worried about if I will be able to bond with this child like my last one, not any more!

Hope you stop being sick soon Elf.

Lexie100 · 29/04/2005 10:37

Booking in appt went well. Had bloods taken and heard the HB for the first time. Not sure how i feel at the moment. Don't get me wrong i'm over the moon just won't sink in that it's ours - we, us, me it's our baby. Feels very unreal, keep thinking i'll wake up soon.

Dh put his ear to my tummy last night and tried to hear the little thing! not sure what he thought he'd hear mind.

Elf1981 · 29/04/2005 19:07

Lexie, I know exactly what you mean. Even looking at Boo on the screen, and hearing the heartbeat, it still doesn't seem real, like somebody is going to tell me it's all been a dream.

Must admit that when I go to the loo at work, as I've been absorbed in work and nothing thinking too much about Boo, I feel my tummy and think "thats my little baby in there!". Yes, I know I'm daft!!

Woohoo, not been sick today!! Boo is picky about food though so haven't eaten a great deal - managed two bowls of cereal, half a tuna sandwich, packet of crisps and an ice sucker which was divine!!

SusiS · 30/04/2005 09:31

morning! had a fab day yesterday. mil came round and we all went to ds' playgroup, then for lunch and then for a nice walk in the woods!! lucas was shattered and went to bed without any complaints

i am having troubles with my iron tablets
says: can give constipation or diorrhia - one week i've got one the next the other
was awake all night with bad tummy till finally 2.30am an explosion - managed to get to the toilet though

Elf1981 · 01/05/2005 10:18

Morning all!

Has anybody picked a particular theme for their nursery? We've started buying things in Zeddy and Rhubarb by Mama and Papa's but there is soooo many designs to choose from!

Hope everybody is feeling well. I'm tired this morning but it's bank holiday tomorrow so NO WORK TIL TUESDAY!!

Woohoo!

Elf xxxx

triceratops · 02/05/2005 16:03

SusiS - poor you - I would stick to the apricots for a while (six a day is supposed to be enough) and well cooked egg yolks in everything and fortified cereal.

For all of you who are having your first I would just like to say that being a mum is the best thing in the world and having children is incredible. I am having such a nice weekend with my 3 year old. He is an absolute joy.

Elf - be careful about themed nurseries. Remember that you are going to spend a lot of time in there at 4 in the morning in a very bad mood, too many cutesy figures could get right on your nerves. I still can't look at magic roundabout figures without having a funny turn .

Babies like
staring at light bulbs (or any bright source of light)
stroking satin ribons
contrasting patterns
pictures of babies and pictures of their parents

mummygow · 02/05/2005 19:54

Hi guys, went for my booking scan on Friday - it was fab. Baby was facing the back so the consultant poked and prodded my tummy and baby flipped right round right there in front of me.

But guess what?

My due date has been changed form Oct 27th to Nov 2nd as the consultant goes on the size of the baby at the booking in scan whereas my gp gave the first date in accordance with my last period - did this happen to anyone else?

So it also means that I have to join the november group but I will be keen to keep popping in to see how you are all getting on!!

morningpaper · 02/05/2005 20:09

Trice: SUCH good advice about not having a themed nursery. Whatever you chose, there will be a time when you will LITERALLY look at the things are feel sick to your stomach at the memory of how awful it was during the early days/nights. Despite decorating dd's room a nice grown-up pastel lilac colour, there is a certain angle when I see myself in the mirror in dd's room and suddenly I remember sitting there when she was a few weeks old, breastfeeding her and crying my eyes out and wondering how I was going to survive...

OH but we can laugh at it now, right?!!!

I have also had a lovely weekend with my adorable 2 year old - it does get better!

Elf1981 · 02/05/2005 20:27

Mummygow - I was quite fortunate that my date given from my midwife based on last period was the same as the date given on the scan. I think the scan dates are supposed to be slightly more accurate, but keep in touch with us!!

Triceratops - thanks for the advice. We have been really careful in the things that we are buying, but I bet I'll end up hating it too! We've only brought a hightchart (why, as I am hardly going to stand baby in front of it to measure!!), the bedding and mobile. I think the only other things we were looking at were the musical toy (because it's sooo cute) and storage box, which we'll put other blankets in etc. Certainly not putting up the wallpaper, buying the curtains and the matching babygrows!

We've had our offer accepted on another house, much bigger than this. It's got 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms (how posh?!), kitchen, living room and dining room. Plus garage and garden. Compared to my current home of two bedrooms (or rather one room and a box!), kitchen, living room and bathroom, it's fantastic! Just got to sell ours now... here's hoping!

Hope all are well.

jessicasmummy · 02/05/2005 20:35

evening people!

i have been so bad at keeping you all posted on here - im so sorry!

latest is that i am 15+3 weeks pg, and only signs of pg are.... HUGE TUMMY and LEAKING (yes, LEAKING) boobs!

I starting leaking early with jess - 24 weeks or so, but 15 weeks!? Thats mad! Totally turned off DH now!!! LOL

Hope you are all ok and starting to bloom - please dont say im the only fatty on here!

penpal · 02/05/2005 23:21

Triceratops - Help! The only pictures up in my DS's room, aged 2+5m, are postcards from the zoo of the giraffes, Orangutangs, Chimpanzees and Elephants!! Although he does have a fairy mobile and mini glittery disco ball (nursery was originally my DD now aged 5+7m). Somehow I never got around to making it more boy-ish, seemed more important to settle her into her 'new' room when he was so little....

jolovett · 03/05/2005 09:33

Hey guys hope you all had a good bank hol - it was great to have an extra day off work! All the family went for a picnic yesterday and it was great. There's currently 2 babies in the family a 1 year old and a nine month old, and they were hectic enough, but we were saying this time next year there'll be them 2 plus another nine month old and my six month old. What a family picnic that'll be!

My belly is huge today - I swear I woke up and it had grown a few inches overnight! I'm having really bad lower back ache at the moment, when I've been sitting for a short while I'm finding it difficult to move around when I get up. Is anyone like this, any advice and should I see someone about it?

JJ is kicking like mad now - when I drink a lot of water mainly (think my bladder is squishing him/her)! A few days ago (s)he did a huge stretch and I'm certain I saw my belly move.

Lexie100 · 03/05/2005 10:52

I wish we could have bank holidays every weekend. Such a lovely break and such fab weather.

Tummy huge so can't fit into anything which is driving me mad. If i move in a funny way i get a twinge but don't think it is movement yet . Also feel like i'm going to pop. Very bloated feeling. feel like i need to do a huge fart/burp but nothing wants to come out at the moment! Been feeling like this for several days. Anyone suggest anything?

ruthiemum · 03/05/2005 12:11

Only sympathy! I feel windy all the time esp when visitors are round I get really uncomfortable! I've def felt baby move, it feels as weird as the first time round. Had to force DH to get me some more maternity clothes at weekend so that cheered me up - feel like I am expanding every day. Feel really anxious, have blood test screening results back on Thursday and I just want it to hurry up so I can relax - keep feel really emotional and clingy.

bonniej · 03/05/2005 12:43

hi all. I haven't posted for a while as have been really busy and feeling really pregnant now. Nearly 18weeks, can't believe how quickly it's passed. I am very fortunate as am feeling great at the moment (such a difference from the first 3 months when I thought I was going to die!!) Seem to be addicted to buying maternity clothes from ebay at the moment. Actually went to D perkins today and got some nice maternity cropped jeans for the summer. Some of the stuff I've managed to get is really nice.I even went to Asda and got a couple of those strappy gypsy type tops that are elasticated and then flare out. they weren't maternity but they were only 6 pounds each and I bought a size too big so hopefully they'll last a while. Has everyone put on weight now? I'm up to 10st 5lb having started pregnancy at 10st so a 5lb gain isn't too bad considering I'm nearly halfway through Still waiting for blood results and been having scary dreams about things being bad, but i'll just have to wait. Dh and myself have finally agreed on a girls name (he thinks it's a boy so I think he'd agree to any girls name I suggested!) It's Tegan. It's a welsh name and means 'beautiful'. I heard it on a programme the other day and fell in love with it, so that's decided. Still no idea for a boy though! 20 week scan next Friday (13th). Seems to be going so slowly and I can't wait. Glad everyone had a nice weekend!!
