Thanks to Nutty for all the thread suggestions including this one. I hope no one minds but I picked this one in honour of the brilliant race commentary we had from Nuts and Frekkles the other night. Hopefully we will get some more.

Juwesm · 18/03/2009 14:40

Have you managed to get any further with your painting?

Bleuravin · 18/03/2009 14:44

Yeah. I've asked Dh to tape off the ceiling this evening so I can do the 'up high' stuff tomorrow and/or Friday.

LuLuBai · 18/03/2009 14:45

Oooh never heard of Cook. Would have been handy in early pregnancy. I always go right off cooking in first trimester and then end up living on macaroni cheese made by DH.

Taken me ages to catch up on the morning's chat and In The Night Garden is nearlty over so DD is going to come and climb all over me again in a minute.

BB - thinking of you. Hope all goes well at the hospital. Does sound like it could potentially be the start of labour.

Springy sorry you're feeling so glum. I don't know what to say about the car. Men always think they know best when it comes to vehicles. On cheap hair dos - When I was a student (and for a few years after!) I used to go to teaching salons and get my hair done by a trainee. It can be a little dicey but you often get a really good job done as they are being watched over by a supervisor and they are so keen to get it right that they tend to be really focussed.

Otherwise wait until Nutty is back on her feet and head down to Bristle .

LuLuBai · 18/03/2009 14:47

Bleu - how is your DHs job search going? I'm sure something good will be just around the corner.

Bleuravin · 18/03/2009 14:54

A lot of people calling up... but not getting second calls and no interviews yet...the fact that time is getting short is what makes the house a tenuous place to be...because what we really want to work on...getting a secure job for the future is reliant on other people who do not feel our need for speed or feel the need to say from the start, 'sorry not right for this job' or 'yep, interview on such and such a date.'

SpringySunshine · 18/03/2009 14:58

LuLu, I'm feeling a bit better now. I'm not angry with him anymore (let's just hope he doesn't start being all defensive as soon as he gets home, because that'll irritate me & there's no need for it).

It was just a mistake. Money's really tight at the moment, which is very miserable. But we're not going to have to live in a box. We have a nice flat which we're not paying heaps for, we have a good marriage & a gorgeous, healthy baby nearly here. The most important things are totally fine. It's all superficial rubbish that's getting me down, but mostly I can see beyond it. Things will be different after the baby's here, anyway - we'll be entitled to more financial help, although obviously there'll be the costs associated with having a baby to contend with.

I suppose it's another good reason to be dedicated to the breastfeeding, though

& you're right - I'll just have to stay in Nutty's good books & exploit her for her hairdressing skills

LuLuBai · 18/03/2009 15:04

Springy - ime men feel justified in spending money on things which mean v. little to women.

When we found out I was pregnant first time DH had just given up his job and I was doing two jobs (running a press office during working hours and editing a magazine in my 'free' time - all pretty hectic stuff) to support us. The idea was that he was supposed to be taking time to evaluate his career and decide what to do next, plus put himself through some career focussed training courses.

In week 1 of unemployment he bought a wide-screen television. I was not impressed.

Bleuravin · 18/03/2009 15:04

Perhaps the commune is the best option for some of us aye? we can pool our resources...

LuLuBai · 18/03/2009 15:06

Bleu - the thing with contract work is that it is often quite a quick turnaround. They only start looking just before they need people to start, and then they want people who can hit the ground running immediately. It's hard, but try not to get too anxious yet.

Bleuravin · 18/03/2009 15:07

Oh Lulu might be the 'type' not long after I quit work because of being horribly ill with 1st trimester and the stress of my job DH did same thing (right after we had had a good long discussion about needing to cut back on our spending)

PuzzleRocks · 18/03/2009 15:07

Is BB in labour?

OP posts:
Bleuravin · 18/03/2009 15:09

Aye I know... Dh can leave his current contract immediately though because 'they're letting people out early' I think it may be partly because he keeps mentioning the new baby on the way...

SpringySunshine · 18/03/2009 15:11

LuLu, that would be irritating enough, but with you doing two jobs... Ouch.

Bleu, I think you're right about the commune - it seems more & more appealing!

& Puzzle, we don't know yet. Possibly. Period pain + bad headache + quiet LO. She's gone in for monitoring because of the lack of movement.

Bleuravin · 18/03/2009 15:16

Do LOs get quiet in labor? MW suggested to me that they didn't...hmmm maybe just the ones in Wales saty active ?

LuLuBai · 18/03/2009 15:18

Is Kitty still around? She's BB's Buddy isn't she.

Meanwhile WhatFreshHell is probably bouncing around like a kangaroo on amphetamines to keep herself in the race

LuLuBai · 18/03/2009 15:20

Bleu - I honestly can't remember noticing this, but all the books say that babies often get quiet when labour is imminent. Doesn't mean they always do though. I guess some of them might keep Kung-Fu-ing away right until they are out.

SpringySunshine · 18/03/2009 15:21

Kitty was around earlier, so she knows to maybe expect a text. BB has mine & Nutty's numbers too, so I think if there's news we'll hear it one way or another.

I'm not sure that WFH knows that she needs to be stepping up her bootcamp routine

Bleu, I've heard that they can go quiet when things start. I know that when I'm really contracting quite hard he goes very quiet - it can't be nice getting even more squashed than is usual & I think he gets freaked out!

Bleuravin · 18/03/2009 15:31

I have to say that I got concerned yesterday when I was in pain and LO stopped moving...so I can see that perhaps it would happen...though I think s/he was taking pity on poor Mommy because when I did feel movement finally and it was paired with the pain I already had I cried so hard because I just couldn't take it and willed either the ribs to calm down or the baby...

Bleuravin · 18/03/2009 15:43

I think I'm going to be a big crying mess during labor.

Anyone know if hospitals usually let you bring in your own refrideratorable/freezable food...I was thinking popsicles would be a nice treat during labor...

conkertree · 18/03/2009 15:46

ooh exciting another possible labour - will have to make sure ds goes to bed quickly so i can log in tonight and see what's happening.

springy - i'd just add to the advice so far that i'd work out exactly what you'll need till October and divide what you get next month into monthly budgets (sorry if that is really obvious advice) but i found it quite scary when doing a yearly budget as opposed to a monthly one eg budgeting for car repairs over a year, a little put aside for christmas/holidays every month etc how much we should actually be saving for a rainy day rather than just spending what isnt used on bills each month. these men sometimes need a real kick up the backside when it comes to money.

dh has ds in B&Q buying more staples so he can finish building the chickens a new shed today - is great to have 15 mins to myself for once.

and i have made a steak guiness and cheese pie for tonight's tea - if i have to avoid sugar, I can at least enjoy the main course.

conkertree · 18/03/2009 15:47

oh and sorry you are feeling down bleu- hope the job gets sorted out before baby arrives.

Schulte · 18/03/2009 15:48

I'm going for an orgasmic labour now I have seen that Youtube video

Popsicles sound great, you'd have to keep them cool somehow though?

Good luck BB with whatever it is that's happening...

Boff {whispers} I have never owned a pair of Birkenstocks.

Bleuravin · 18/03/2009 16:01

Well we also have a 5 day cooler/ice box which we were tempted to stock up with treats...but it's the size of a small suitcase and we weren't sure if we'd be allowed to bring it in...which made me wonder if there's typically a fridge or freezer available otherwise...

BabyBolat · 18/03/2009 16:06

Hello all - am back - no labour or baby so think our best best for birth today is Lauren!!

So heartbeat is fine - a bit sporadic and lazy at times but mostly in the right area so they are not concerned - still no movement tho' so have to go back first thing if thing tomorrow if things don't pick up tonight.

Schultes how do you now own Birkenstocks - I have 4 pairs!!!

Bleu, ((hugs)) hope you are feeling a bit better - these things just have a way of working themselves out - DH is a contractor so there is always uncertainty but generally things have come along when we need them too - fingers crossed for your DH!

Bleuravin · 18/03/2009 16:11

BB it must have been quiet there...I had to wait 3 hours just to be told to go to A&E yesterday.
Glad everything is k with babyBB, hopefully you'll get movement later.
