Hello,

can anybody help me with bras please?
I went to get measured at marks and sparks and said I wanted nursing bras, was 38 weeks etc. They tried to give me one the same size that I am now. I said that to my knowledge I was likely to grow a lot so what size did they think I would need. they said it's anybody's guess and I might not even get any bigger and reluctantly let me try a 38DD (instead of 38D which I am now)

I bought said 38DD but I am really not convinced cos so many people on MN have said that they grew so much more and to be honest I can't see me fitting much more than a breast pad in there never mind a whole fist. Were these marks and sparks bra fitters right and maybe I will stay this size or were they being morons?
there's nowhere else I can get to locally, our local mothercare is on a retail park outside of town and I can't get there so it was the only place to go. They helpfully said I can return them if they don't fit after the birth but I don't even want to think about a bus ride and getting re-measured with a very new baby when my milk comes in! (they seemed to not understand the concept of milk coming in btw)

anyway. boobz I do hope you dong go into labour at the Geog. Soc. but that would be some story :-)

good luck to anybody whose labour is starting today and welcome to all the lurkers and new posters!

SpookyMadMummy · 10/03/2009 16:50

I had reflexology when having Dd2. I was 2 days overdue and the midwife had just completed the Maternity Reflexology course.
Within about 3 hours I was having contractions
She is my midwife this pregnancy and the next time I see them I will be 40 weeks and if its her, I will be getting my shoes and socks off!!

Boobz · 10/03/2009 16:51

Crikey! That is a bit of a shock to the system! Did they say why Mae got stuck? What did her heart rate drop to during each contraction?

Well done you though! Sounds like it was a bit harder with the last bit than expected, but a good labour up until that point!

x

Madigan · 10/03/2009 16:51

Congratulations again Joanne!

Mum2B it sounds like you and i are in the same boat ......
i have c section booked 20 March, but really do reckon baby is going to make appearance this week .............. how many weeks are you?

mum2b09 · 10/03/2009 17:02

im 39+2 but maybe a little futher from my dates (wishful thinking ) im suposed to be due march 15th and hoping i dont go over that i dont think i could cope with the pain till then..

I could cope with the pain if i knew something was going to come of it but 10 days.. and still nothing, iv tried everything to bring on labour but i think my babys quite comfortable where he or she is lol

how many weeks r u? x

corgikelly · 10/03/2009 17:18

Oh wheely, how exciting! Am thinking you may be in the delivery room even as I type...

grinningbee · 10/03/2009 17:39

I'm voting that Wheely wet herself...

Seriously though Wheely good luck and I hope this is it for you

grinningbee · 10/03/2009 17:40

Actually, I'm thinking running might be optimistic - I'll do a fast waddle instead....

laweaselmys · 10/03/2009 17:42

reflexology is a bit out of my budget. Don't suppose you can DIY at home?! Probably not...

Arse.

MW confirmed waters gone/going but head still high and bp a bit high so have to go in tonight. Sounds like good chance they will c-sec me unless head sorts itself out v.v.v. soon. So feeling a bit miffed.

Will try and let you know asap.

Delbird · 10/03/2009 18:32

Lizziemum - I'm booked in for some labour inducing acupuncture tomorrow. I'll report back on success...

Also having (another) curry for dinner tonight - I'll get this baby out by hook or by crook

lizziemun · 10/03/2009 18:57

I'll pass on that one. I don't do needles .

I also don't like curry, so it looks like i have to wait.

Madigan · 10/03/2009 19:06

wheely - good luck - hope all goes well.

Mum2b, I am 37+4.... still have sore tummy this evening. bet it wakes me up again tonight (if the heartburn doesnt) .... surely something must be happening in there?

iwantitnow · 10/03/2009 19:32

Bouncing on a ball can help the head go down wheelybug. I'm having contractions but head in strange position like with my DD so unless head presses on the cervix the contractions won't happen or lead anywhere. Very frustrating - hope you see your baby soon, it should be 24/48 hour tops if your waters have gone.

Yarnie · 10/03/2009 19:38

Titmouse, I recently got fitted for a nursing bra at Rigby & Peller who said that the bra should be firm on the tightest hook (your rib size shouldn't grow post-natally) and that you should be able to fit your hand inside the cup to ensure you will have enough space for when your milk comes in and for pads, etc. They also advise that you buy stretch lace or other comfortable fabrics. Only get one or two to begin with as everyone is different and you may need to go up or down a size. Hope that helps!

Laurenypops · 10/03/2009 19:56

This is exciting stuff! Coming on here is nearly as addictive as assessing my tummy muscles! 3 days over today, and have felt rubbish all day. Tummy is in a permanent state of contraction, and although not painful is uncomfortable. Hopefully might be the start of something, but then again....

Sorry things haven't gone to plan wheely, but hopefully not long now.

Madigan, sounds like I'm feeling a bit like you- I sympathise.

jollyjoanne · 10/03/2009 20:40

Even though the babies head has been engage since Jan, she hadn't actually dropped. She was ROP, and looking upwards meaning that the fatest part of her head was stuck in the birth canal and my contractions were really only very short which meant when I was pushing there wasn't enough force to push her down the birth canal. They didn't actually say what her heartbeat went down to but you could see it on the graph thing that is drawn by the monitor, it would go up just before a contraction and then plummet through the contraction. They seemed really quite concerned from very early on. They took some blood from her head during the contractions and that suggested that she was OK this is why I was allowed to try for an hour before they said enough was enough.

Wheely good luck to you.

I didn't have any reflexology before the birth. I did have curry sauce on my fish and chips though for tea! (may have helped you never know). Did manage about 1 cup of raspberry tea a day for a week or so before the birth.

But have to say the contracting of my utereus whilst breastfeeding is now nearly as painful as some of the early period cramp style pains. (which may be a not so pleasant side effect of the raspberry tea).

I bought a couple of nursing bras from Debenhams one is a 38dd (I'm normally about this size) and the other is a 38e, but to be honest not overly convinced there is a lot of difference. Probably a little extra space in each if I do get bigger I guess I'll find out in the next few days. Otherwise I'll be putting the internet or my mum to good use for a larger size.

EllieorOllie · 10/03/2009 20:51

Congrats Joanne, and good luck Wheely...

I'm so desperate for something to happen. 39 weeks tomorrow... Had midwife appt today but she wouldn't do a 2nd sweep because i was already 2cm dilated. I don't really understand that. She said it wouldn't help as the sweep is designed to dilate.

Having done heaps of housework i am now sitting nursing raspberry leaf tea and rubbing acupressure points. Also admittedly drinking a beer, which i reckon is likely to do more good than any of the other methods.

Re bras - i was told to go down a back size and up a cup size. Last time the bras i bought were rubbish - i think the fabric wasn't stretchy enough, and i wasn't told to change size. Although i also had mastitis and bad engorgement. So that probably didn't help. Go to a big mothercare - their panache range is gorgeous and so soft and stretchy!!

Law - I am sure that you don't need to have your GBS test done privately. Last time I insisted on having it done (on the advice of an aussie friend - in oz GBS is very high profile), despite being told it was unnecessary, and they did it through the normal channels. I did have to shout at them quite a lot though. This time the health authority i'm under does it routinely. Which is nice.

Good luck to everyone...!!

Wheelybug · 10/03/2009 22:44

Am back home ! Confirmed waters gone - although probably just hind waters although they're not sure. Won't do anything to hurry it due to previous c-sec so they told me to come home and if nothing happens I will be c-secd on Thurs. Head still high, cervix unfavourable so guess we're probably heading for c-sec (on mother in law's birthday as well - harumph). What a palaver !

titmouse · 10/03/2009 22:49

thanks very much for the bra advice everybody, I think I will see how it goes and jollyjoanne I realised after your post that I can order stuff online from home if I find the ones I got don't fit. (sometimes forget that post-birth the world doesnt completely stop and change it's just us that does lol)

been atop my birthing ball for about 2 hours playing monopoly and I've got some sharp pains in my undercarriage area now, I think I have bounced the baby down a bit lower :-)

good luck to you wheely and I hope there's good news soon

meep · 11/03/2009 08:29

oh wheely really hoping things start naturally fro you before Thursday. Sounds like it might - all labour vibes Wheely's way today ladies!

jolly hope you're receovering well after the forceps. It is scary when the baby gets distressed but it sounds like you were being closely motitored and that is what matters.

Off to MW today to see if she agrees that baby has dropped. Was out for dinner last night and 2 friends who I only saw last week were amazed at how low it has got!

Dh is out on the lash tonight and I don't want the baby to arrive early - so it will just be my luck that something happens now !

corgikelly · 11/03/2009 09:34

Hi all -- I just got back from my 38+2 monitoring session at the clinic. Nothing like lazing around for 45 minutes, reading a book, while they track the baby?s heart rate, any contractions, the baby?s movements, your pulse and your blood pressure. Is this something they do in the UK? In Belgium, they do it every week from week 38 until you deliver.

Cletus? heart rate is fine, he?s moving around like a demon (?My,? the midwife would say when she popped in occasionally to read the printout, ?he?s quite the little gymnast, isn?t he?? I?m not having any contractions, and my blood pressure is stellar.

She did a quick internal exam afterward ? no more dilation (still at 1 cm), but my cervix has softened a bit more. She could feel the head, so he?s still in the right position; I don?t know how that?s possible unless I really am giving birth to a starfish?

Now it?s just wait and see. Looks like I'll be okay for my "day o' beauty" tomorrow and the wine fair on Friday, at least! I shall be spitting with the best of 'em.

Plus, it?s a lovely sunny day.

FruitynNutty · 11/03/2009 09:52

Just popping my head through the door again to say a big hello to Yarnie! I thought you'd disappeared off the face of the planet So pleased everything going well for you.
Also, ooh how exciting Wheely I really hope your LO arrives before Thursday I've got 7 more sleeps until my baby eviction day! I'm finding it so bizarre knowing the date LO is coming, beats hanging around for two weeks past my due date like I did with DS I even get to meet him 4 days early!

I'll let you all know when DS2 is here so you can take me off your list.
I might even manage to keep up with the post-natal thread if it's not too busy - I'll try anyway

Best of luck to everyone! I can't believe how many have popped already
To think my due date isn't actually until the 22nd, I'd still probably be here two weeks after that and be the last one to drop if he wasn't breech!

Boobz · 11/03/2009 10:00

Have got reflexology booked for 1pm today - fingers crossed this gets baby moving! Am about to bounce on ball whilst watching last night's Mad Men.
