Oooh - I wonder if that Castor Oil worked then for Honey! She said she was going to try it to make sure she got her home birth! Am tempted myself (which is silly as I am still 9 days away from due date...)

Thanks for notes of sympathy girls - me think my sleeping days are over for a while now! Cannot disengage my brain from the inevitable.

Off to the Royal Geographic Society tonight to watch a debate on Afghanistan (DH used to be in the marines and was there in 2007) and so am hoping that my waters breaking over aged gentlemen in suits will be an inappropriate enough setting for Baby to make appearance a la Sod's Law.

Good luck Honey!

laweaselmys · 10/03/2009 13:13

Good luck Honey!

MW popped around this morning and my blood pressure has gone back to normal (probably was me playing tetris in the waiting room that hiked it up then!) There are still white blood cells in my urine (there always are) and MW suggested maybe I had a Group B Strep but that if I wanted to get tested I'd have to order one online and it's £30! SpookyMadMummy Do you think it is worth getting tested anyway? £30 is a lot for us at the moment, and if it's just a case of baby girl being infected and treated post birth but then being fine then I'd rather save the money. that probably sounds horrible. But I am sort of assuming that the lack of routine tests means it isn't really serious...

I have borrowed lots of books from the library such that (Sod's Law) baby girl will arrive before I finish them!

Hi Laweaselmys

Why don't you read this?

www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=childbirth&threadid=459211-sign-this-petition-to-get-strep-b -test-made-routine#10287232

It's probably more info than you need, but I thought it was a really interesting debate.

grinningbee · 10/03/2009 13:20

No consolation Boobz but my sleep pattern is shot too.

I get tired about 9.30 and then when I go to bed I wake up! I'm often awake watching rubbish for a few hours to then drop off for a bit, only to be woken by the obligatory wee visit, and then by DH getting up. Having said that, I did drop off after he left this morning.

Must have been having the bed to myself!

grinningbee · 10/03/2009 13:22

Law - They're suggesting you may have an infection but you have to pay for a test??? seems a bit wrong to me...

Boobz · 10/03/2009 13:23

You need to get to Rohan's post on page 2 to get both sides of the argument...

I decided not to get tested as it would throw out my chances of a homebirth.

meep · 10/03/2009 13:31

I have just gpt home and I am teary, hormonal and fuming

I am marked as a PND risk this pregnancy because I didn't manage to breastfeed last time and I probably cried every day for 6 months because of it. Even now I can burst into tears when I talk about it.

So......booked myself into the NHS bf workshop - want to get as much info as possible beforehand and some good advice about asking for help when in hospital.

The date and time are written in my notes. I turn up and nobody has heard of it - and after 30mins of people faffing around I get told that it was changed to last week. And the next one is not until AFTER my c-section date.

Being a hormonal wreck at the moment I burst into tears - though at least I managed to wait until I was back in the safety of my car.

I have a MW appointment tomorrow - so she better give me some extra time so taht I can talk through everything with her.

Am off to eat chocolate.

Rant over - sorry!

laweaselmys · 10/03/2009 13:42

meep How terrible! A similar thing happened to a friend of mine, except that the MW just forgot and failed to turn up. Talk to your midwife tomorrow and try not to worry too much lots of people seem to have very different BF experiences second time round compared to the first.

Boobz thanks for all the info have read the article Rohan linked to and am now feeling very mixed about the whole thing! I think I would rather not have the IV drip etc and have baby girl develop the stronger form, so will not get the test done. I'm 38+5, so she's already at less of a risk for not being premature.

Noodle07 · 10/03/2009 13:45

Rubyring - just wanted to reply to your post, everytime i go to nursery a worker there says to be 'you're huge', 'i can't believe how big you are!'. It is very annoying, especially because i'm not that huge i'm just a couple of weeks off giving birth!

I've had lots of aches and cramps but no sign of anything yet, last wk the baby was 2/5ths engaged so things are heading in the right direction. Have so far tried the curry, raspberry leaf tea and clary sage bath.

meep · 10/03/2009 13:48

thanks law - it is just so annoying - had to organise childcare for dd as well which made it all even more annoying. And these were the mw's who were totally advocating their workshop and who told me it was much better than the NCT one I went to last time (meep mutters "at least they turned up".............can you tell I'm still angry??!)

Interesting debate about the strep b test - it wasn't something I knew much about.

Noodle07 · 10/03/2009 13:58

Meep -what a shame about workshop. I too am hoping for a better bf experience this time round, everyone keeps telling me it will be easier.

Whenever the list gets updated with new arrivals do you think it could include when people were due as well as actual date of birth? Would be interesting to see the difference...

meep · 10/03/2009 14:31

I am hoping it will be easier this time round noodle - I already know far more than I did last time and have more realistic expectations - last time I just thought that it woudld happen and had no concept that it might be difficult so went to pieces when it was. I'm also quite realistic that learning to bf again with a needy toddler is going to give me a whole new set of problems to deal with

rubyring · 10/03/2009 14:43

hello all! managed to get bit of time to self today, am so ready for this baby, am 38 +2 think am going to attack the raspberry tea with a vengeance! thanks for your comment noodle, it is v annoying when people think they can just say what they like isn't it, argh! anyway saw the mw today she said all is measuring as normal, and of course i would be bigger cos it's my 3rd...
Hmm, also little bit stressed, my mum wants to come and stay and, ah, help next week for a few days - she is still recovering from a broken ankle, altho now is using a stick and can drive, but am not sure if this will be a help or a hindrance, my other 2 are so little and you do need to be on yr feet a bit - i don't want to have to end up looking after my mum too! sounds really ungrateful, but also think she is desparate to be here when i go into labour, which i don't want (long story re. other 2 births), i do love her to bits but her help isn't always practical, i would rather she just came when he was born (she is 100 miles away)
oh blimey am just so hormonal and tired, not sure what to do really...also issues between her and my dh and i really don't want tensions in my potential last week of pregnancy!
hey meep, the bf was definitely easier second time round, my hv was really supportive actually, as i did get in a bit of a stew initially. are there any nct type clips online you could watch? just a thought...and there should be a nice mw at the hospital to help you - just keep pressing that buzzer when the time comes!
well, good luck to honey! i expect there will be another baby v soon!

Delbird · 10/03/2009 14:58

Urgh. Am 40+2 and frustrated with impatience right now! Our son was due on Sunday (8 March) but, somewhat like his father, he's running late. I was hoping for an early entrance (and for him to be a helpful 7lb) but I don't think either are happening...

Any bright ideas for speeding things along?

Honey - good luck!!!

Wheelybug · 10/03/2009 15:37

Yikes, either my waters have broken or I'#ve just wet myself big time....

mum2b09 · 10/03/2009 15:41

Hiya girls posted on one of the older threads due March 15th with my first 5 days to go cant believe he or she is almost here.. hope you dont mind me joining this thread so late x

Boobz · 10/03/2009 15:41

Oh Wheely! So exciting! And jealous... xxx

Boobz · 10/03/2009 15:43

And you're early

Cosmogirl · 10/03/2009 15:46

Hi, lurker here . Just saw Wheely's post. How exciting. I am due on 31st March so 37 weeks today and so impatient for things to get going. I have had a feeling all along I would be early and worked out from first fetal movement that baby would be born tomorrow....not sure that is looking likely at the moment!

Wheelybug · 10/03/2009 15:51

sorry Boobz . Mind you, may have just wet myself and then I'm going to look a right banana.

MW has said to monitor things and call back in a couple of hours - if I have contractions by then I'll have to go in and be checked cos of VBAC, if no contractions they'll come out and assess me.

Typically my parents (on call for dd) have had to make a dash to my grandmother who has been rushed into hospital today (don't think its serious and we're not close). Luckily though they're no further away than if they were at home and had taken their bags. Might mean though my Dad is stuck there and my Mum nicks the car and comes up.

Blimey - if this is it, I really recommend reflexology.

lizziemun · 10/03/2009 15:59

Delbird

If you find a way to get the baby out let me know as I am 40+1 and already bored.

As for a 7lb baby that's a dream, but i can also guarantee this baby will be at 9lb as dd1 was a week early and 9lb 4oz and dd2 was a week late and 9lb 2oz.

Madigan · 10/03/2009 16:31

In the pregnancy section there is a thread about "early labour" which goes on for days .... does anyone know if my ongoing "period type pains" could be early labour as opposed to BH (which I am told are meant to be painless????). Confused now.

mum2b09 · 10/03/2009 16:44

Iv had those ongoing period pains for about 10 days hun.. horrible arent they..

Iv had some wopping pains like contractions too aparently BH can become painful towards the end, when i rang my MW she said as long as my waters hadnt broken and there was no pattern to the pains and they werent becoming moe regular or painful to wait until they where 5-10 mins apart before going to hospital.. I was so hoping i was going into labour ut im still here waiting lol xx

Boobz · 10/03/2009 16:45

Right, off to book reflexology...

jollyjoanne · 10/03/2009 16:46

Oooh good luck Wheely sounds promising.

I'm now home from the hospital.

Nothing about the whole labour thing was like I expected. It was a bit of a strange time really.

As mentioned on here at lunch time on the 8th (due date) no action, no signs nothing. Started getting period style cramps late afternoon, just popped a hot water bottle on my back and felt ok ish. Not really any worse pain than I get from my IBS.

Then went to bed at 9pm ish as feeling rubbish waters went at about 9.30 ish but didn't actually realise it was my waters as it was such a small amount of liquid, then about 30 mins later I had a show but carried on bleeding afterwards, put on the Tens machine, phoned the hospital (11.30pm) to let them know but contraction still not regular or long they said come in but it was all very relaxed as this was the first baby.

Decided to have a quick shower and brush teeth get last few bits and pieces together etc. But by about 1.30pm when I woke DH up to take us to the hospital I already wanted to push. Had real difficulty motivating myself to leave the bathroom. DH literally had to push me to the car.

Got to the hospital for 2 am, was already fully dilated. Moved to delivery suite, tried to have natural birth with G and A but baby's head was stuck and not moving and baby was getting very distressed with her heart beat dropping quite a lot during each contraction. So ended up having a spinal, getting cut and the baby being delivered by forceps, followed by some stitches. At 4am. Down on ward by 5am and baby Mae bf until 6am.

Can't believe how quickly it went from nothing to baby!
