oh spooky what a bummer...it will surely happen soon, though, try and get a bit of rest before the next lot xxx

corgikelly · 02/04/2009 14:40

Oh, spooky, that's rotten. I'd always thought that when they got to that point, things were inevitable.

I've been contracting, but at wildly varying intervals anything from 3 minutes to 20 minutes and they don't seem to be getting progressively stronger. They're not pleasant by any means, but still no worse than period cramps I've known and loved in the past. Might have to go for another walk soon.

corgikelly · 02/04/2009 14:42

Ooops, wanted to add that the contractions seem to be lasting for a bizarrely long time 2 minutes isn't out of the ordinary. Is that normal in latent labour? Always thought they started short and then built up if that's the case, I don't even want to THINK about how long they'll be in the transition phase!

grinningbee · 02/04/2009 17:13

Spooky It's no consolation but the same thing happened to me today as well.

They were about 6 mins apart, got to hospital who told me after a few hours I was only 2cm. Given some pills for pain relief, and it all slowed down from there. No further dilation, so patted on the head and told to come home and take f paracetamol.

I have bawled my eyes out.

They wouldn't induce me as they said it is too risky, even though I am to be induced on Tuesday!!

Ctx are still stupendously painful (and yes, I've had the magic paracetamol) but currently now every 30 mins. I'm really hating this.

jollyjoanne · 02/04/2009 17:20

Grinning, Spooky and Corgi and anyone else still out there, YOU CAN DO IT!!! Come on ladies we are strong and even when we're not - think about the gorgeous baby you're going to have at the end. Fingers crossed for you all and best wishes for some speedier and less painful labours!

SpookyMadMummy · 02/04/2009 17:25

grinningbee are we twins?!?! I did exactly the same.
I am hoping this baby arrives before Sunday because otherwise I will have to go in for induction by ARM. I have refused a chemical induction because of the experience I had with Dd1. I am hoping that them rupturing membranes will do it.

grinningbee · 02/04/2009 17:41

Spooky I reckon we must be!

I feel so incredibly down now and have just blubbed again with the next ctx, which was only 15 mins after last one.

If you tell me you went to the QMC in Nottingham as well I'll be really .

I heard two babies being born while I was there.

Don't think I've cried as much as I have today for a very long time...

Just don't feel like I can do it. And I've only been having ctx for 26 hours 40 mins so far...

SpookyMadMummy · 02/04/2009 17:49

grinningbee I am a bit further north in Rotherham.
I heard a birth too when I was on LW. The midwife said she was a very young Mum who was terrified I just wanted to pop in and give her a hug.
I just keep spontaneously blubbing too - its made worse by the fact I was quite unwell yesterday and I haven't eaten for nearly 2 days because of being sick after even water.
Dh and I are having a 'Who's the most Pissed Off contest' I think I will win that one so lets just hope it comes soon for us.

corgikelly · 02/04/2009 17:51

Grinning, so very sorry to hear how things are progressing (or not). I hope you undergo a rapid (and less painful) reversal of fortune. Have you got any techniques to try to relax/take your mind off the pain? Would a warm bath do anything? (I know, that's about as feeble as paracetamol ).

Sending lots of energy your way. You too, spooky!

grinning spooky!! You are doing amazingly! I had the very same start to labour as you are having, by the sounds of it, and it WILL get stronger, and faster, eventually. I promise. It doesn't last forever even though it feels like it will at the moment.

You can do it.

kanga5 · 02/04/2009 20:09

congrats to titmouse!

wow corgi, ruby, grinningbee and spooky all sound well on the way. good luck guys!!

I am getting very anxious now. I really hope labour ward can fit me in tomorrow. I am worried about being induced at 42 weeks, as the baby may be more likely to get distressed with a failing placenta, leading to ECS...yikes.

corgikelly · 02/04/2009 21:20

All right, this is contagious!

I spent most of the early evening with contractions down around the 7-8 minute mark, feeling like they were getting quite strong...and now the interval has slowly climbed back up to 15 minutes and they aren't nearly as strong. I am not pleased. Really thought, from what my OB said, that I'd be back in hospital by now!

Guess I'll go try to get some of the sleep I missed out on last night (nerves) and hope to be awakened by something exciting.

kanga, good luck in getting squeezed in tomorrow -- have they been monitoring you consistently (and will they over the weekend) to alleviate some of your concerns about an induction at 42 weeks?

Still have fingers crossed for you, grinning and spooky.

rubyring · 02/04/2009 23:10

oh wow good luck grinning, spooky, corgi and kanga! have had more show this pm am still holding out it may happen tonight but going in at 11 am for induction tomorrow. they firstly do the prostoglandin (sp??) at 2pm then another at 8pm, then rupture membranes at 8am sat then oxytocin drip after that (the thing i am most scared of...) Been blubbing a lot today aswell, after my initial high i had a show i came back to earth a few hrs later as no waters/contrax yet, just cramps...i did go up and down stairs a lot, corgi! real mountain climb for me now with swollen calves and feet! it's hard not to worry, i have no idea what it will be like. got a stash of crap mags to take i dunno why! as if i am going on hols?!?! well, no doubt be up in night unable to kip, so check in again! blimey eastenders was a shocker eh! how depressing! xxxx p.s in my opinion, hearing birth is a lot worse than giving it!!

corgikelly · 03/04/2009 05:22

It's been a long night.

Contractions settled in at around 10 minute intervals around 11pm and stayed there until 3 or 4am -- then they started getting more painful and closer together. I got up and moved around, and every time I take a new position (standing, rocking, on my ball), the interval goes back up above 5 minutes and they seem easier for the next few contractions. Then they slowly move back down.

I think I'm supposed to wait to go to the hospital until it's really consistent, but it's really starting to hurt. I might wake DP up (he took refuge in the guest room - no reason for us both to go sleepless) and slowly make my way clinic-ward. I see a big fat epidural in my future - it hurts!

Will check in later if it's all for naught...

rubyring · 03/04/2009 08:20

Best of luck, Corgi..things are certainly happening for you!
Am about to get ready for induction, feeling highly emotional argh! Anyway, will post in a few days i expect, see what's what! Good luck everyone, I've really enjoyed this thread and hearing all your stories xxx

meep · 03/04/2009 09:37

I love this stage when you are just waiting for the babies to finally arrive (though I am sure those going through it just want to get to the end) - good luck spooky and corgi and calm vibes to kanga

slick they have some great (and cheap) babygroes in Matalan with built in scratch mits (you just turn over a pocket at teh end of the sleeve) - fantastic invention - my brother has been telling everyone about them as he was so impressed!

Wheelybug · 03/04/2009 14:30

ooh good luck Corgi,Grinningand Spooky, ruby and kanga and anyone else going into labour or induction ! Looking forward to seeing you over on the other side !

twocutedarlings · 03/04/2009 15:48

Now BLOODY HURRY UP we need updates!!!

SpookyMadMummy · 03/04/2009 17:48

Well, I have scrubbed the kitchen floor on my hands and knees today, I have had some more show and now I am having a few tightenings, Fingers crossed !!

Boobz · 03/04/2009 17:57

Corgi I reckon your labour is pretty similar to mine so far - or latent labour as they call it. Just waiting and waiting for the CTX to become more consistent and painful... I tried everything to hurry them along - in the end it all came to a head and then the actual established labour went by in a flash (or a relative flash - 8 hours in all).

Good luck anyway girls - still thinking of you and checking in on you xxx

kanga5 · 03/04/2009 19:44

corgi good luck you sound good to me. My first labour was very similar with painful contractions of varying lengths and intervals. As boobz says it is unfortunately the early stages, but it does mean your body is preparing. It hasn't done it before, and you have to try and relax or practice your techniques before things really step up. You will know the difference as you won't be able to talk through them!!!

My update: phoned labour ward this morning and they took in more urgent cases than me, understandably. So am still booked for monday...arrrggggghhh. Unless of course it kicks off beforehand. I am merely getting period pains, and I don't think anything is doing what it should. I bet corgi would want to swap with me, and I know i'd love some of the signs you others are getting. I guess my body has done it before, so as soon as baby is ready it will be all go very quickly...

good luck those still left and surely all of us only have 3 or 4 days left of being pregnant!!!

xxx

kanga5 · 03/04/2009 19:53

corgi I won't be monitored unless i have concerns about lack of, or change in, baby's movements. You seem to have lots of monitoring, here they don't do so much.

Lovely MW i spoke to this morning said i could just come in if at all worried but would most likely be sent home. She thinks i will be fine on monday, and will give birth quickly. She added that the placenta doesn't suddenly stop working at 42 weeks.

it sure is an emotional time for us...lots of tears here too ruby and grinning.

As MW said stress will slow things down so try and stay positive everyone.

wheresmybump · 04/04/2009 19:25

hey all just popping in to announce the birth of marcus jay, 8lb 4oz born at 2.34 this morning 12 days overdue and after induction. He was sooo worth the wait though the labour was such a great experience compared ds1 so good luck everyone still waiting xxx

lilymolly · 04/04/2009 19:49
