kanga5 · 30/03/2009 11:18

that's what i mean grinningbee, as you will plan to do all the tasks tomorrow, but won't be able to as baby will make its appearance. Yay.

i offered to pick up loads of kids this afternoon from school, people say NO NO NO, but you see if you make plans and appointments, baby will turn up. Simple. Or I am I just going ever so slightly loopy now!

grinningbee · 30/03/2009 11:25

Sorry Kanga, I missed the point there!

No, you're not loopy.

Good to have a plan for the week. April Fools day is my wedding anniversary (yes, really!).

I'm thinking April baby too. My plan is for her to turn up on Wednesday just to annoy DH who is insistent that she can't arrive then.

Failing that it's a sweep at 41 + 1 on Friday and if nothing kicks off, induction on the following Tuesday.

Yarnie · 30/03/2009 11:58

Just thought I'd pop by and say hang on in there, ladies A Portuguese friend of mine wished me "a short hour" before the birth and I thought it was a nice sentiment and pass it on to you all.

corgikelly · 30/03/2009 13:02

Do they do multiple sweeps in the UK? I had one last Thursday, and the OB said she'd have the midwife do another one when I go in for monitoring tonight.

Sorry to hear you're trapped at home, grinningbee, especially as it's lovely here in Brussels, too. I spent a couple of hours powerwaddling around the neighbourhood this morning, but don't seem to have achieved anything except getting tired. So it's off for a nap -- the fun! the excitement!

SURELY with all of these inductions booked, at least one of us will defy the odds and pop prior, right?

Boobz · 30/03/2009 13:08

Feel for you Kanga and all the other girls. Hang in there!

xx

grinningbee · 30/03/2009 13:08

I'm only being offered the one sweep, but I think there were others who had more than one.

I would say at least one of us has to pop before induction...

Just had some lovely marmite on toast. Going to let that go down, then hoover, and then I reckon it must be nap time.

We may as well while we still can

grinningbee · 30/03/2009 13:58

Well, things have just got interesting

I'm getting flashing lights/weird vision in one eye. Just spoken to the hospital and they've said to go in for monitoring and to take a bag just in case.

DH is now on his way home to pick me up, so I should be there in a couple of hours!

Bet I'm home later with bump still. Just thought I'd let you guys know though.

Trust me to have just eaten stinky marmite!

BumblBeee · 30/03/2009 14:38

Good luck everyone who is on the way. My first one was a week late and it seemed like forever :-0

A consolation that if you make it past april 6th I believe the government gives you £190 fruit money?

wheresmybump · 30/03/2009 15:37

grinningbee and lilymolly hope all is going ok, well im 41 weeks today and its my 25th birthday still no bloody sign of this baby though. i have an appointment to get my induction date tomorrow but i hope it isn't wed, thursday would be good but im moving house on friday-stupid yes but i've dumbed down enough not to be panicking

kanga5 · 30/03/2009 15:46

thanks for info bumblbeee, but what a bummer, I will be exactly 42 weeks on 6 April, so i think i will miss out by a matter of days!!!

wishing you luck grinningbee. I have had migraine type flashes in pregnancy, they probably just want to check blood pressure and urine to rule out pre-eclampsia. Always best to be checked over, a good thing they are looking after you.

Corgi if i have to have a sweep i hope it is just needed once, but they can do more if time i guess. It worked for me last time within 48 hours.

come on baby come on baby come on baby

kanga5 · 30/03/2009 15:50

my goodness wheresmybump, you don't half make life interesting!!! With some luck you will be resting up in hospital, if that is the plan, while someone does the move for you???

crikey...

kanga5 · 30/03/2009 15:51

happy birthday by the way

ladylush · 30/03/2009 16:00

Thanks Wheely How is lo?

wheresmybump · 30/03/2009 16:17

thanks kanga5 well we kinda thought i'd be done by now lol. well if i try hard enough i'll be having tea and toast in hospital while all my family move me in lol

grinningbee · 30/03/2009 21:32

Tea and toast in hospital while having your things moved for you sounds ideal!

Yes folks, I've just got back home again

Bump is still firmly in place. Everything check wise is fine, blood etc.

I was just there for so blooming long! There was one additional extra however - the doctor insisted on doing a sweep which was done at about 8pm. All I can say is OUCH!!!

Whether or not it'll do anything remains to be seen, but I still have my mw appointment on Friday when I'll have another one (if I'm brave enough now I know how much it hurts!).

One funny thing though - there was another lady there who we got talking too. She's 44 and thought she was going through the menopause.... nope! She's 12 weeks pregnant.

Hope you're all ok out there, and no doubt I'll be here tomorrow to offer the cakes around

corgikelly · 30/03/2009 23:12

grinningbee, glad to hear things are okay.

Today was obviously the MN day to spend way more time than necessary at the hospital...I had a monitoring appointment with my midwife (in Belgium, if you go the traditional hospital route, the midwife you see during your pregnancy generally won't be among those on the ward attending you during the birth -- a fact which confused me before but which makes me very happy now).

She hooked me up to the monitor, then disappeared. I read a bit, dozed a bit, read a bit -- and an hour and a half went by. I started rapping on the wall to try to get someone's attention, as that seemed a bit extreme to me, but no luck. After another 15 minutes, the door opened and a doctor came in and was gobsmacked to see me.

Yes, my midwife forgot I was there and went home. I was FURIOUS.

I got this random doctor to do another sweep (and you're right, grinning, it bloody hurts), but she said that my cervix was still quite hard...

I've been doing some reading since I've been home and am really starting to worry about the induction. So many things seem negative about it -- if you start with a hard cervix, odds are higher it will end in a caesarean; the fact that synthetic oxytocin isn't processed by your body in the way natural oxytocin is means that you lose out on natural pain relief and that it can make breastfeeding post-birth more difficult...dunno, I'm just getting depressed and worried about the whole thing.

Any positive induction experiences are thus more than welcome!

rubyring · 31/03/2009 05:51

hi corgi, god what an annoying midwife! well done for getting extra sweep in tho!just to say i was in fact induced eventually with my first baby, but i was full to the gills of epidural and pretty out of it - v long and exhausting labour. it was a forceps delivery in the end and i did feel the final push - to be honest, as soon as she came out i was so amazed and delighted i kind of forgot everything from before, the main thing was she was safe. it didn't effect breastfeeding at all either so try not to worry. also i don't think there's anything wrong with having pain relief. i just had gas and air with my second but did arrive roaring for another epidural, but there wasn't time! and i will ask for one if i can't cope this time... i have been hearing more positive stories about being induced lately, so feeling a bit better for friday...try not to worry, sometimes the more you read, the worse it seems! remember it's different for everyone...i think all this waiting is very anxiety creating, it's horrible! was convinced this one would turn up at least 3 wks early!
i have really bruised feeling aching legs at the mo, rationally i think it's due to the weight i am carrying, but also scared i am riddled with blood clots having read some scary websites! gonna mention it at sweep later today...
well, good luck all, check inagain soon! xx

loveverona · 31/03/2009 06:57

My first was induced at 42 weeks and I only needed the gel (ie things kicked off before drip required), but it was long so needed an epidural and ventouse in the end - she was 9lb 9oz! Everything was so new though that it didn't bother me at all.

I can't stand this staunch no pain relief brigade - if you need it, have it - you don't know how you're going to be until you're in labour, and no-one's going to reqrd you for going through pain that you simply can't cope with.

My 2nd came at 12 days late with no intervention, but had another epidural too late so it didn't really work. Now 40+5 over with 3rd and or course I'd rather not be induced again, but if I've learnt one thing about labour and childbirth, you have to keep an open mind.

And don't surf the net - it'll scare you witless!

GOOD LUCK!!

grinningbee · 31/03/2009 07:58

Corgi at you being forgotten!!!

I'm pretty certain after last night that I'm going to end up on the induction route too. I read my notes and ye olde cervix was only open enough for the mw to get her finger in at the bottom, and still closed at the top (although she did push it through to do the sweep!). Maybe that's why it hurt so much... Nipper's also still not fully engaged.

It would seem that nipper is very comfortable in there thank you and will have to be served an eviction notice!

It's funny to think that by next weekend at the latest we'll all have our babies one way or another.

I have made sure I have the car keys today, so I will be doing today what I should have done yesterday!

Catch you all later

corgikelly · 31/03/2009 09:25

rubyring, thanks for the encouraging words -- 'tis always better to get the scoop from someone who's been there, done that. Really happy to hear breastfeeding wasn't an issue for you post-induction.

loveverona, I'm definitely not fanatical about not using pain relief frankly, I pretty sure that at the first real contraction I'm going to be shrieking for an epidural it's more that for some reason I'm really counting on being able to move around (especially since baby is sunny side up and I'd like to get him to shift if possible). I think it's because movement is how I tend to cope with pain anyway(ie, really bad periods, though I know there's no comparison). The idea of being stuck on a bed, hooked up to a monitor and an IV and what have you, is freaking me out a bit.

grinningbee, enjoy the sunshine and the errands!

grinningbee · 31/03/2009 14:07

What a gorgeous day!

I feel so much better for having been out and about on my own.

Registered at the new docs, so now I don't have to worry whether or not we'll get mw and hv visits at our new address.

Also went shopping and bought far too much naughty stuff.

If anyone fancies them, I have chocolate cupcakes, cadbury cream eggs or maple pecan icecream

[piggy emoticon]

grinningbee · 31/03/2009 16:43

Where did everyone go?

Spoke to my dad earlier (it was one of those "no baby isn't here yet" chats).

He told me I can't have the baby on Friday as the turf for his lawn is being delivered...

So that's tomorrow and Friday I'm banned from apparently! Tomorrow is our wedding anniversary - I've also been told that if it is tomorrow, I can't have her until after 12 so she won't be an April Fool!!!

You have to laugh really...

corgikelly · 31/03/2009 17:30

hey there - I'm here, but on a long and boring conference call. Like you, grinning, I had a thoroughly lovely afternoon earlier, wandering about in the sunshine and having a nice lunch on a terrace. Ahhhh. (Though if one more person tells me, "oh, enjoy it now while you can," I shall smack them.)

Maple pecan ice cream sounds LOVELY.

And I very much like the turf delivery argument against labour.

Horror of horrors, though, I think I might be coming down with a cold. The thought of coping with being a brand new mother AND having a sore throat and congestion? Eeek.

lilymolly · 31/03/2009 17:59

Hey everyone

Matthew Jack born Monday 13.10pm 7lbs 13 oz

Birth story:

Waters broken at 11am
a few cramps, so got in bath at 12pm
About 3 contractions in the bath which where really painful so asked mw to get me an epidural (I was losing it tbh and panicking)
Examined at 12.30 7-8 cm dilated, so off she went to ask for epidural.
30 secs later felt like I needed a poo!
Fully dilated at 12.35

Major decelerations in baby heart, so everyone panicked and called the consultant who told me baby was in distress and we where going to theatre

I pushed like hell, still would not come, so an episiotomy and ventouse where performed and out he popped at 13.10!
So about an hours labour all in all with NO PAIN RELIEF AT ALL

Breasfeeding all night and day, and nipps starting to feel very sore, but we will get there.

Good luck to everyone who has still to pop.

Oh and ask for pain relief early

Boobz · 31/03/2009 18:06

Well done Lilymolly! An hour's labour? You have got to be kidding me. You dilated at warp speed! It took me exactly 90 hours to dilate to 8cm and your got there in 90 minutes!

Glad to hear BF is going well and you and Matthew are doing well, despite episiotomy and ventouse. Looking forward to seeing the photos!
