wow what an amazing and quick birth lilymolly! congratulations! rock n roll!
had my sweep earlier, really didnt find it too bad, just bit uncomfortable like a smear test...am 3cm dilated but this is normal for subsequent children she said. she suggested things cld all kick off tonight but really not gettig hopes up! having another one thurs if need be. Hang in there ladies...do we move to april thread now or stay on this?? xx

corgikelly · 31/03/2009 18:37

Bravo, lilymolly!

Don't know about you, rubyring, but I'm staying here...and just waiting to transition to the March 09 postnatal thread after the fact. I don't know anyone in the April group and I just like you guys too much to leave!

grinningbee · 31/03/2009 18:45

Yay!

Congratulations Lilymolly and wow on the speed of the birth!!

I'm staying here too Corgi. We'll see it out to the bitter end

Think things are going to get really lonely in here though with your induction being in a couple of days...

I shall have to sing to myself until I can join everyone else

Just call me Billy-no-mates, or should that be Billy-no-baby

Wheelybug · 31/03/2009 18:48

Congrats on Matthew lilymolly ! What a way to do it.

Stay on this thread gals who are still waiting. It can't be much longer and then you can come over to postnatal (My dd1 came ealry and ended up in the month before my antenatal thread but I just hung around waiting for them to join me). We'd miss you if you went elsewhere.

Hopefully it won't be long (and there's still 5 hours left to have a March baby... although probably only 4 for Corgi ).

laweaselmys · 31/03/2009 18:59

Okay so this is really late - but birth story! for Molly who was born on the 23rd March

due date +4 (Mother's Day) I woke up about 7am having really mild contractions and was having them all day between 10 and 20 mins apart. Eventually by about 6pm I was having them every five minutes but they were still really mild so I rang the labour ward who said it could still be ages and to have a bath and ring them if my waters broke or they pain really amped up.

Had a bath and the contractions basically stopped!! Was feeling really fed up after that so went to bed about half ten having decided it was false labour again and had three much more painful contractions and my waters broke, all over the bed - (those mat's work though mattress all fine.) contraction were much more painful, every 4mins or so and had to stop what I was doing every time one hit so was ordered off to hospital.

Our car is still in the garage so had to ring my dad who came and took us to hospital when I got there I was having contractions every 3 minutes and it was just gone midnight so no mother's day baby for me! I was only 1 cm gone, but cervix very thin so expecting to head into labour pretty quickly, the pool's were busy and I was fed up with the pain so I kept asking for drugs but they didn't want to give me anything until I was 4cm. (But they wouldn't check how dilated I was either, because they were really busy and didn't have time which was annoying) eventually got some pethidine which I hadn't really wanted but actually was okay - I was drowsy but I was awake during contractions (and could feel them) and if somebody spoke to me I could hold my attention on them.

When that wore out I switched to gas and air while they waited to give me an epidural but note to others you're only supposed to breathe it through the contractions... I wouldn't let go so was really reaaally high don't remember anything, and was spouting giberish.

After about three hours of that they started prepping me for the epidural, and just before they injected decided to check how dilated I was - and was already 10cms! So had to do the pushing bit with just gas and air. It took about an hour and I got a bit panicky and really didn't think I could do it, I was oushing and it hurt but didn't feel like any progress was being made - then suddenly she was out. So have heart when you get to that point, you can do it.

I had a 2nd degree tear and lots of stitches.

It's odd but laboutr was much less terrifying than I thought it would be.

Good luck to everybody still hanging in there, at least it can't be much longer now with eviction dayds coming up.

sorry about sp - baby in lap.

have you got an induction date grinningbee?

kanga5 · 31/03/2009 19:37

i am stil here, 41+1 today.

corgi what a horrible time you had yesterday to be kept waiting like that.

congrats to lillymolly, glad to hear it all went ok in the end.

let us stay on the thread, or move over to the postnatal one if only a few left!!! At least they know who we are there.

great story law, you see your body knows what to do and you just go with it in the end.

Well looks like i'll be having an april baby as well. Nothing at all going on here. I have described myself as a slow cooking aga, no quick fire gas BBQ at work here. I am going for a sweep tomorrow morning, unless baby makes a go of things in the next 12 or so hours. Not looking forward to sweep at all.

Slickbird · 31/03/2009 19:41

Hey Y'all! I've finally made it back from my 6 week internet purgatory and I've missed you all - and so much news and so many births!!

BUT - Pleased to announce the safe (and very quick) arrival of Nicholas Edward Vaughan, born March 10th, 7lb 13oz. 11 DAYS LATE!!!

I had a sweep the day before and while I had some regular contractions in the following 24 hours it didn't really get going until the tuesday afternoon and I managed to get the kids collected and ushered off to my folks thinking I didn't want to be labouring all night with them in the house. However, an hour later I had my tens machine on as the contractions were very sore and about half an hour after that I was in the car on the way to hospital shouting my head off in pain as the contractions were coming so quickly. When I got to the hospital, they handed me gas 'n' air immediately and had my waters broken straight away as that was the only thing holding him in. That next hour was mental - sorry for those who are still to pop - but I can't believe how much it hurt and I knew it was too late for any pain relief and I was making noises I didn't know I was capable of making!!! And when the head came down, feeling like a bowling ball, I thought ' YOU HAVE GOT TO BE JOKING ME!!!!' Then I started shouting, 'Ring of Fire, Ring of Fire!!' (All these things I had heard about but hadn't experienced having had two VERY long labours before and epidurals) then the head was out and then the rest of him and I have never been so relieved in my life - and VERY chuffed with myself as I never thought it would be so quick and without any real pain relief. So felt pretty darn proud! And he is the image of his oldest sister when she was born. But with a boaby obviously. So, really, 4 hours once things got going. I had a lot of stitches as he came out with his hand up. He's a lovely wee thing tho.

Subsequently, I had a nightmare with the breastfeeding - despite best efforts again - mastitis in both breasts and cracked and bleeding nipples, antibiotics, pools of sweat, shivers, crying with every feed, oh the joys. Still, nipple sheilds helped me get through some of it and as he is a VERY hungry boy (10 feeds in 24hours) he is on bottles as well as breast (left side only - put right side out of action), but he is on 6 oz bottles and he is only 3 weeks. He sits and feeds off me for 40 mins and then follows it with a bottle! Talk about taking the p---! Anyway, while I breastfed the other two for 6 months, it is different this time as I have an 18 month old and if I am to spend any time with her (and the oldest) I need to be able to hand him over.

Should point out - I would always encourage everone to try breastfeeding as it is easier in lots of ways and some people find it really easy. Just, er, not me!

Anyway, BIG congratultions to all those who have had their bouncing bundles of joy and I'm glad to be back (even if no-one else misses my long diatribes of drivel!).

Have we to stay on this thread now we've had or is there another?

corgikelly · 31/03/2009 20:05

Well done, slickbird and law! I did have to laugh at slick's "You have got to be kidding me" and law's shameless abuse of the gas and air...

March baby, Wheely? Me? Hah bloody hah. Forget Rhys, I'm naming him Stubborn Git, Esq.

I like the aga analogy, kanga.

I hope this link works - here's the March 09 postnatal thread. I promise to post on the antenatal thread, though, or double post, until our merry little band is all blissfully postnatal...

twocutedarlings · 31/03/2009 21:25

Yay!! congrats slick i have missed your drivel !! lol .

WOW!! what a birth story!! my little fella did a superman dive into the world to!! i have to agree that it hurt like hell!

lau another fab birth story!! i have to say it again i am so proud of you 1st time Mummys (gosh does that sound odd ) you have all been so brave!!

grinningbee · 31/03/2009 22:21

Huge congrats to Law and Slickbird!

Um... not sure if this is worth mentioning, but I seem to have had a bit of a show... nothing else going on, but I suppose it's something.

Law my induction date is April 7th. I wonder if someone will be here by then already.

I dunno!

rubyring · 31/03/2009 22:49

wow, congrats to you law, well done...all these births! feeling bit crampy tonite after sweep but who knows no doubt yet another false alarm...actually, quite like to hang on a bit longer now, am really into the eastenders wedding storyline at the mo, would like to see it thurs!! i agree much better to stay on this thread then shift over to the post natal...well, check in tomorrow, folks, hope you have comfy nights xx

corgikelly · 01/04/2009 11:59

Okay I may be totally crazy to be doing this, but I'm going to call my doctor (or try I'm afraid she doesn't work Wednesdays) and see if I can cancel tomorrow's induction.

My body just feels so far from being ready, and the monitoring has shown both me and Cletus to be in sparkling condition...I would really like this to happen naturally if at all possible (not natural as in no pain meds, natural as in the labour happens when my body decides it will happen).

I have no idea if she'll agree, and if she does I'm sure it will mean going for daily monitoring, but I have thought about nothing else for several days and really feel this is the right decision for me. Just hope I get to make it...wish me luck.

kanga5 · 01/04/2009 12:04

good luck corgi hope they respect your wishes.

I am back from sweep this morning which isn't looking promising as I am still completely closed up. Worse still hospital is booked out for inductions on Friday so i am booked for monday when i will be 42 weeks exactly. Never gone that long before.

in a way i agree with you corgi that is best to wait for body to be ready as it is obvious i am not. But i am gutted all the same, and really really tired now.

oh well it really is a slow cooker, that was a joke my little baby please come out now...

kanga5 · 01/04/2009 12:31

that was a bit of a me me me post, sorry

meant to add congrats to slickbird too, what a dramatic story!

grinningbee hope signs are positive for you today, you aren't on yet so maybe you are already cuddling little baby???

rubyring, how are things today, any progress?

twocutedarlings · 01/04/2009 12:34

corgi I would also be doing the same in your shoes, i think you will also need a scan to check the the placenta is ok - but hey there is still time for things get going!!

Ruby is yet to check in today!!

Kanga chin up!! it wont be long, fingers crossed you wont even make it till the w/end .

Slickbird · 01/04/2009 12:45

Twocute - yes I noticed you were quick too with your third (time to change your name to threecutedarlings??).

Corgi, kanga and Ruby - Hope it's not long for you all now. I was desperate by the end too, odd, tho Kanga, you'd think after this many you'd be ready to just sneeze him out now eh?

kanga5 · 01/04/2009 12:56

slick I wish for that!!! I don't hold back when i need a good cough I can tell you.

just think though every day a bit more weight goes on the little blighter...ouch ouch ouch

corgikelly · 01/04/2009 14:04

Thanks for not telling me I'm crazy.

Well, as I thought, I couldn't get hold of my own doctor, so ended up speaking with another OB. She, of course, wasn't going to take a decision for her colleague, for which I can't blame her but she did her best to talk me out of even thinking about delaying. Eventually, though, we compromised on me coming into the clinic as planned tomorrow morning, but only doing a monitoring session until I get a chance to speak with my doctor. So if everything looks good, then nothing will happen and I'll go home. But there's no way they'll let me go much longer so at the latest, kanga, we'll both be having our inductions on Monday, both at 42 weeks.

(I love the fact that the doctors argue here that inductions aren't done for nothing, they're for the good of the baby, that's all that matters -- and at the same time, they won't perform any over the weekend!)

I do wonder where ruby and grinning are! Did they steal the jump on us??

Boobz · 01/04/2009 14:25

Still checking up on you guys... can't believe your LOs are being so stubborn! Well done you Corgi, for delaying your induction if you feel that's what is best for you and the babe. I would have done the same thing - even tried to go beyond 42 weeks if I'd had to, to make sure it was natural. Luckily I didn't have to wait more than 3 days past my due date in the end.

Come on Kanga, ruby, grinning! Rooting for you all...

xxx

grinningbee · 01/04/2009 14:37

Still here, so don't worry that I'll beat you to the finish!

Just having a day on the sofa with dh - it's our anniversary today.

Had a bit more show this afternoon, but I bet that doesn't mean anything!

meep · 01/04/2009 14:49

have finally managed to get some computer time (my dh hogs it!) and hope I've managed to catch up on everyone's news.

Congratulations to Lilymolly - 1 hour of labour - wow - that's the way to do it!

Congrats to law as well - and welcome to Molly (that was on my list of names!)

Welcome back and congratulations to slickbird and hello to Nicholas! Loving the "ring of fire" chant - having never gone through it myself I can only imagine - ouch!

Well - finally - here is my birth story.

Got into hospital at alloted time of 7.30am only to be told that I was last on the list for my section - boo! So dh and I spent our time sitting on my hospital bed reading and trying not to be nervous. The nice thing was that I got to meet all the mums on the ward beforehand which made coming back to the ward less daunting!

Walked down to theatre in my lovely hospital gown - dh went to get his scrubs on leaving a slightly scared me to walk into the operating theatre.

They then put the cannula in - done by the Anaesthetist so not sore at all - hooray. Then they started on the spinal. OMG it was so sore, I was practically jumping off the table which was terrifying because you have to stay very still. Eventually the Consultant took over - I was in tears and in a cold sweat and not happy.

But the magic drugs worked and I suddenly realised that I was about to meet my baby. But the next thing was that she was stuck with the cord wrapped round her neck twice (corgi was it you that was worried about this? In all scans beforehand she wasn't distressed - and they did say that if I'd gone into labour naturally she would have untangled herself!). One surgeon had to practically get on top of my belly to push her down while the other was tugging away with forceps!

so much for my nice calm elective section! DH was pretty traumatised as he could see more of what went on.

But she came out eventually and she had no problems breathing and is cute as a button .

I did feel a bit disassociated with the whole thing afterwards - it felt very clinical and because it wasn't straightforward I think I was in a wee bit of shock.

But a lot of skin to skin later and I was head over heels in love with her.

We're still breastfeeding. It is still sore, but nowhere near as bad as last time. My right nipple looks as if it is about to crack - so I have also been using nipple shields from time to time. She also likes her marathon feeds - 8pm to 2am one night - but normally about 45 mins at a time.

slick you sound like you have had a rubbish time with the bf and the infections. Hats off to you for mixed feeding.

My dh is still off work - so I haven't experienced life trying to bf the baby and deal with a toddler at the same time - how easy/bad is it?!

Good luck to those still waiting ............not long now .............lots of labour vibes winging their way to you all.

still here guys! feeling crampy, tired and irritable, oh nothing new there!!! gonna call midwife tomorrow a.m for another sweep, just know i will be emotional wreck if i go and be induced on fri...very brave of you corgi, i really admire your sticking to your beliefs, let us know how you get on. i suppose i know i am already dilated etc and it's not my first i just want it all over with, especially just want to bring him home and resume family life get back a bit of normality (?!?!? after a few months anyway!) want to be able to chase kids around garden, drive, get out of bath etc etc !!!
wow meep, another amazing birth story, they really are quite overwhelming...
this is the longest i have been pregnant too, kanga, it's really weird, eh? i wonder if the dates are right sometimes, but i definitely didn't feel this crap at the end of the others! initially it was march 29th but at the first scan they said 22nd.........
better glug down some raspberry tea urgh! actually much improved with a slosh of blackcurrant, wow! read on another board that one overdue lady felt like a watched pot - that really does feel true!
p.s meep, it's a bit hazy, but i remember bf with baby and toddler wasn't too bad, espec as she settled into roughly 2hourly day feeds at about 3 wks or so. watched quite a bit of cbeebies during this time, or read books, or got lunch/snack ready or drawing or something easy to do...it was ok, just knackering cos you don't get much of a break yourself...

meep · 01/04/2009 15:17

ruby you give me hope.......I have teletubbies and INTNG on dvd at the ready!
