have finally managed to get some computer time (my dh hogs it!) and hope I've managed to catch up on everyone's news.
Congratulations to Lilymolly - 1 hour of labour - wow - that's the way to do it!
Congrats to law as well - and welcome to Molly (that was on my list of names!)
Welcome back and congratulations to slickbird and hello to Nicholas! Loving the "ring of fire" chant - having never gone through it myself I can only imagine - ouch!
Well - finally - here is my birth story.
Got into hospital at alloted time of 7.30am only to be told that I was last on the list for my section - boo! So dh and I spent our time sitting on my hospital bed reading and trying not to be nervous. The nice thing was that I got to meet all the mums on the ward beforehand which made coming back to the ward less daunting!
Walked down to theatre in my lovely hospital gown - dh went to get his scrubs on leaving a slightly scared me to walk into the operating theatre.
They then put the cannula in - done by the Anaesthetist so not sore at all - hooray. Then they started on the spinal. OMG it was so sore, I was practically jumping off the table which was terrifying because you have to stay very still. Eventually the Consultant took over - I was in tears and in a cold sweat and not happy.
But the magic drugs worked and I suddenly realised that I was about to meet my baby. But the next thing was that she was stuck with the cord wrapped round her neck twice (corgi was it you that was worried about this? In all scans beforehand she wasn't distressed - and they did say that if I'd gone into labour naturally she would have untangled herself!). One surgeon had to practically get on top of my belly to push her down while the other was tugging away with forceps!
so much for my nice calm elective section! DH was pretty traumatised as he could see more of what went on.
But she came out eventually and she had no problems breathing and is cute as a button .
I did feel a bit disassociated with the whole thing afterwards - it felt very clinical and because it wasn't straightforward I think I was in a wee bit of shock.
But a lot of skin to skin later and I was head over heels in love with her.
We're still breastfeeding. It is still sore, but nowhere near as bad as last time. My right nipple looks as if it is about to crack - so I have also been using nipple shields from time to time. She also likes her marathon feeds - 8pm to 2am one night - but normally about 45 mins at a time.
slick you sound like you have had a rubbish time with the bf and the infections. Hats off to you for mixed feeding.
My dh is still off work - so I haven't experienced life trying to bf the baby and deal with a toddler at the same time - how easy/bad is it?!
Good luck to those still waiting ............not long now .............lots of labour vibes winging their way to you all.
