Hello everyone! I haven't had time yet to catch up on everyone's news and other new arrivals yet, but I will do tomorrow during a quiet moment. Most of you know that I had Penelope on Sunday morning having started contractions on Wednesday afternoon, and that it was EPIC (in my mind anyway!) through the HB thread - but of course I wanted to announce it on the March thread too and just haven't had time.... thank you for all your support all the way through - you have all been fab.

Promise to come back tomorrow and congratulate all the other amazing ladies on this thread who have either had their babes in the last week or are still due..

Pic of Penelope on my profile. Utterly in love. xxx

kanga5 · 23/03/2009 23:02

good luck lilymolly, I think I will be in the same boat this time next week.

This baby has one hour to make its appearance on the due date, but none of my others did, so little hope tonight...

laweaselmys · 23/03/2009 23:23

Hey, it's LaW's DP here.
She just wanted me to let everyone on here know that she gave birth to our beautiful daughter Molly at 8:01 this morning. She weighed in at 7lb9, it was a long night and the birth plan kinda went out the window when the pain got a bit too much for her but it was so worth it. I am immensely proud of her, and want to say good luck to anyone still expecting!

laweaselmys · 23/03/2009 23:24

Oh and I am posting for her because she is staying in hospital overnight but they are both fine!

corgikelly · 24/03/2009 07:45

Congratulations, laweasel!

And boobz, Penelope is truly gorgeous. "Epic" doesn't even come close to doing your story justice, either...

grinningbee · 24/03/2009 08:10

Congratulations Law!

And Boobz those piccies are gorgeous.

My jinx idea didn't work yesterday. Went off and did 2 weeks worth of food shopping on my own, with no mobile and a slightly unreliable car. Not a thing. I must admit I did feel like I'd over done things a smidge by the time I'd unpacked the car and then put the shopping away, and of course I forgot a few bits despite the list I wrote.

I've got my 40 week mw check on Thursday - do they check you to see if anything is happening, or do they let you carry on another week before doing anything like that?

Ok, time to do my hippo impression in the bath...

EllieorOllie · 24/03/2009 08:12

Well done Law, that's great news. Don't worry about the birth plan abandonment - they're supposed to be flexible!

And Penelope is gorgeous Boobz. Must have been amazing to have her snuggled up with the two of you so soon. I have to say that your partnership with your DH is inspirational - you obviously provide a wealth of support for each other.

Right, ladies who are left - lots of laboury vibes my way today please. I've been having bearable but regular contractions since about 2.30/3.00am. Coming every 20 minutes, and amazingly haven't abated since I got up. Now my last birh was an epic and I don't want to go there again, so cross everything that this is over and done with before next Saturday!!!

grinningbee · 24/03/2009 08:21

Loads of vibes coming your way Ellie and good luck!

And now I must go or the bath will overflow

EllieorOllie · 24/03/2009 08:29

Ta, Grinningbee!

In answer (sort of) to your question, it depends on the policy of the hospital that the midwives work out of. Some are strictly not allowed to do sweeps/internals until 41 weeks. Some are not really allowed but will do it anyway if you plead. And some just do whatever they fancy. This is what I was told by my midwife...

Any action Kanga?

kanga5 · 24/03/2009 09:41

congrats Law!!! enjoy your new baby daughter.

boobz they are lovely pics and as I said on your HB thread I think your story and research into HB has struck a chord and you could publish your account of the experience. I think other first timers would find it very inspirational!!!

Grinningbee I think my MW will only do a sweep at 41 weeks even though I raised the possibility for this week!!!

No action at all here ellie. Felt v. stressed out towards other DC this morning yelling at them to get dressed for school...I think I will come to terms with being overdue again in a few days!

i have never felt such a wriggly baby as last night, it was almost unbearable, but on the otherhand trying to enjoy the last few days...

kanga5 · 24/03/2009 09:44

oh ellie meant to add your contractions sound really promising, labour and dilation vibes being sent as requested..good luck

lollipopz · 24/03/2009 09:58

Hi all. congratulations to hedge and law
Seems to be all girls at the moment!
Well I have been having some bloody discharge today and lower back pains and periody cramps! Hoping this is it and it won't go on for days as I am so ready to be over and done with! Anyway buzzing round getting tidied up and showered and trimmed just in case so catch up soon L x

lollipopz · 24/03/2009 09:59

Good luck to Ellie as well

livismum · 24/03/2009 10:45

Hello! havent had internet for 2 weeks, just when i really needed it!

Gave birth to little girl on sat 21st at 11.41pm so on due date just!

Eleanor Bree 7lb 4oz

All rather quick, had pains all day sat but not enough to say yes this is def it, at 5pm it got bit worse and we got DD to her Nanna's still coping so stayed at home as they were still 10 mins apart although quite painfull.

At 9pmish left for hospital and was settled in to room and met midwife by 10, was put on monitor for a while as my blood pressure was up a bit and babys heart rate dipped, all seemed ok. At 11 was examined and was 9cm so pain relief options went out the window!

My waters went quite dramaticaly straight after all over the bed as i as was changing positions, and was getting urge to push, delivered her about 8 pushes later! few small tears as she had her hand up! but felt fab and still do! BF straight away and continuing well, came home sun afternoon less than 24hrs after it really got going.

Love to everyone will try and catch up with everyones news thaat ive missed x x x

lollipopz · 24/03/2009 11:00

Congratulations Livismum what a nice quick birth

Wheelybug · 24/03/2009 12:26

Congrats livismum, law, hedge and boobz. Hope all going well.

Good luck Ellie and lollipopz and labour vibes to those still waiting !

EllieorOllie · 24/03/2009 14:01

Congrats Livismum. Speedy births are good!

Well i was getting very miserable about 10am as everything seemed to have stopped, no more contractions etc. But twenty minutes ago I had the most enormous (really quite gross!!) blood streaked show, so i guess the contractions must have been effacement pains. I now feel very very positive that things are heading the right way! Bring on the real deal!!

And thank you for all your positive thoughts !

EllieorOllie · 24/03/2009 14:03

Ooooh good luck Lollipopz, didn't see that first time round...

titmouse · 24/03/2009 15:23

good luck ellieorollie - are we soon to be joined by an Ellie or an Ollie?

congratulations livismum and law too, brilliant news. Livismum I love the name Bree.

Saw MW today, head engaged, shoulders jammed in pelvis so hopefully not long and may even come one due date! Baby is slightly back to back, not fully though, so hoping I can encourage it to rotate a bit. who was it on a previous page who has a back-to-back - corgi was it you?

corgikelly · 24/03/2009 15:30

hi titmouse -- yes, I'm the one with the back-to-back. Been contorting myself in all kinds of directions, but Cletus seems intent on staying as is.

I spoke with a kinetherapist (not sure what the UK equivalent would be kind of like a physical therapist, I suppose, but many of them specialise in pre- and post-natal care) yesterday who said that at this point, there's not a lot that can be done to shift him but that many babies do shift naturally during labour, as long as the mum has the mobility to adopt and hold different positions. So to my way of thinking, that means holding out for a natural delivery for as long as possible, as long as the pain remains manageable, so that I can frolic around on all fours.

And I'll still probably keep on with the exercises on spinningbabies.com until things kick off -- can't do any harm, right?

Good luck, ellie and lollipopz -- though it's getting lonely in the not-in-labour-yet camp!

titmouse · 24/03/2009 15:42

Hi corgi I'll check out spinningbabies. thanks for the info about natural labour I am planning on that but I know emma had a horrible time in back-to-back delivery and I'm wondering if I can take the pain!!

Have you had any pain in your back? I keep getting spasms up my spine which MW said may be related.

Definitely agree that exercise can't do any harm, I am rolling around on my big silver ball as I type

lizziemun · 24/03/2009 17:22

Titmouse

I had a back to back labour and yes it was deffinatly more painful then my pervious two labours.

I managed with just gas & air, but i do have a realy bad back and can bearly move and am having to be waited on by DH.

corgikelly · 24/03/2009 17:50

titmouse, the only pains I've had in my back have been mostly related to a bike accident I had a few months ago. Over the past few days, though, I've had bouts of more period-type back pain -- you know, the deep-seated achy crampy variety.

Just got the following email from a cousin and thought I'd share, FWIW:

"Speaking as a woman who has experienced back labor twice, I'm not sure what to compare it to. Everyone talks about how bad back labor is. Since I haven't experienced the alternative, I can't say what the pain difference is. However, whenever I had a contraction, Paul could dig his hand into my back and that really helped alleviate the pain and pressure. One cannot do that if the pain is in your abdomen. He once almost complained that his hand hurt, but he thought better of it."

corgikelly · 24/03/2009 17:54

I am so of the gas & air thing!

In Belgium, it's natural or epidural. No other pain relief options.

titmouse · 24/03/2009 18:14

really, corgi? that's the two extremes! Do people tend to take the epidural option?

interesting info from your cousin, thank you, I do find massage helps alot with the pain I've had so far in pregnancy and what your cousin says is right, you can't really do that to an abdomen. Do you have massage stuff ready? I don't know if you have Lush in Belgium but their Therapy massage bar is great and very lavendery, apparently has calming properties. I just love the smell of it.

lizzie glad to hear you managed it on G&A, are you still having back pain because of the back to back labour, is it taking longer to recover?
