Wheely and Emma huge congrats on your babies' safe arrivals.

Scary birth story emma, but you are right it helps to write it down. Also talk to MW about it if you feel anxious still.

corgi glad baby OK, must have been a sleepless night.

PHW hang in there. Even those that enjoy their pregnancy find the last couple of weeks tiresome. I am just so ready now, and feel I can't do anything to make myself feel comfy. Baby does lots of BIIIIGGGG stretches now, DH reckons it Alien all over..

corgikelly · 15/03/2009 12:12

lilymolly, I hope the baby's woken up with the caloric intake.

One thing the midwife did tell me is that while it IS possible for a baby to get tangled in the cord, it's very rare -- and even more rare once the baby's in a head-down position. Given your due date, I'm thinking your bub's head down, right? So try not to worry too much...(pot/kettle, I know).

Madigan · 15/03/2009 12:32

Congratulations Wheely and Emma!!!!

PHW - I get crampy period type pains most nights - woke me up again last night ....... but must just be BH because they do not develop into anything and then disappear.

The SPD is much better now - now that I know to keep my knees together when moving about in bed, I do not have as much pain in that area .................. just wish it had been diagnosed earlier!

Counting down the days until Friday now!! Only 5 more sleeps (or insomniac nights, to put it more accurately)

Love to all and hope you are enjoying the weekend

xx

meep · 15/03/2009 12:36

Congratulations wheely and welcome to little Lara! is it really scary waiting for a c-section (whilst being full aware this time round)?

I know I am going to be a bundle of nerves too. Mine is scheduled or the day after Mothers Day so dh has strict instructions to take me out somewhere o keep my mind off things.

I have a vague memory of dd doing little shivers after she was born - check with the mw - I sure she is fine.

emma your birth story sounds pretty similar to mine when I had dd. Back to back labour is never ending and quite scary because they keep telling you that you are "not really in labour" but you have been having contractions for days/hours. I never got to the pushing stage and was lucky that my emcs was quite calm as only done because dd was stuck.

The whole crash emcs must have been very scary for you and your dh. Keep talking about it - it helps to get it clear in your mind. I can still cry when I think of things about mine and that is 19 months on.

But welcome too to baby Luca

corgi step away from google - you will terrify yourself. Having dealt with lots of baby cases in my line of work, it is very rare for teh cord to cause serious damage in utero. But glad you went to get monitored - the last thing the mw's would want is for you to be stressed.

lily I don't get much movement here in teh morning - then suddenly I get a big wriggle - but it is definitely lessthan it used to be. Am I right that if you feel around 10 spearate periods of movement in a day then that is the norm?
But again, if you're worried call your mw.

hedge I am sedning you more labour vibes - you must be so fed up by now.

Nothing new here - managed to shave my legs (oh it felt good) by sitting in the shower - problem was trying to get up afterwards
I have been bulk buying food/toilet rolls/household stuff so I don't have to think about it for a few weeks - I even cleaned the car(there was a nice carpet of raisins in the back from dd!) - so am feeling more nested and (almost) ready to go!

Wheelybug · 15/03/2009 13:59

Thank you for the congrats everyone.

Emma - a scarey story - glad everything turned ok in the end albeit traumatic. I hope you are able to get over the experience and enjoy Luca. I had a traumatic time first time round so I sympathise.

Meep - I won't lie and say it wasn't nerve racking waiting but the anaesthetist said to me (once he'd seen me blubbing ) - you'll say it wasn't as bad as I thought when you come out and it was true. It was just the anaesthetist running through the spinal procedure and the risks etc and the spinal didn't hurt a bit and there were no problems.

After having been so set on a VBAC and being quite upset beforehand that i wasn't going to manage it, I really feel ok about it now. Yes, it is disappointing and I won't ever experience natural birth but to be honest, I have so much to be grateful for - a year agowe were coming to terms with the idea that dd1 might be our one and only and now we have two . It realyl doesn't matter how they came into the world. Am going to run the marathon instead - not everyone's done that .

corgi - my yoga teacher was talking about cords wrapping around baby's necks and she made the point that the risks are so much less than we think because the baby doesn't actually breath until it is out and the cord has been cut so there is no risk to suffocation. Presumably there are some other risks but that made me feel a bit better when I';d heard that.

lilymolly - hope all is ok with you.

AMwokring on photos - my computer is messing about a bit but will try and post some soon.

Wheelybug · 15/03/2009 14:29

I've put a link to some facebook photos on my profile - they are bitmaps so I can't download them to MN. I will delete the link tomorrow or something if i remember !

lilymolly · 15/03/2009 14:37

All is well thanks, baby started moving after cadburys creme egg and cup of tea in bed

Just been farming and fed sheep and cows on a quad bike in very bumpy field, so if that doesnt get the little bugger out, I dont know what will

pipsy76 · 15/03/2009 15:33

Hi all, congrats on all the new arrivals. Ive got a bit of queue jumping to do, Alfie born via elective cs 12th March 7lb 4 oz.
Just to reassure anyone booked for an elective I was really shocked to find this an almost painless happy experience, so there is hope!I refused to consent to blood sugar monitoring for DS as my blood sugars had been so well controlled and he was a normal size. Staff respected this wish and I got 24hrs of skin to skin following delivery, with lots of bfeeding a lovely experience.

Emma congrats on your new arrival, your story it nearly made me cry, please understand you've had a really rough ride don't be too hard on yourself in the coming weeks.I had a very similar story with ds1 and its only now, having had a nice birth experience that I realize just how bad the psychological effects of a traumatic birth can be and how healing a good experience is. I hope things start to improve for you I would recommend the birth trauma threads if you find you keep thinking about it all the time.

Tried the curry induction technique last night and today have been having BH every half hour to hour... I need to pee every time I have one so have been half living in the loo!

OP posts:
babyinbelly · 15/03/2009 18:38

Congrats to new arrivals.

Baby Lucas was born at 5.17am yesterday morning, after I was posting on here at 2.45!

All very quick. First twinge was probably about 1am. Cant really be sure. Knew I was going into labour all day friday but pain started at 1ish. Got out of bed at 2.15am and contractions were already coming every 2-3 minutes. I was able to walk them off at that point but by 3.15 I was climbing the walls and had to get DP out of bed. He went to get his mum to sit with DS and in the 10minutes he was gone I needed to get to hospital ASAP.

We got to hospital about 4am and I started to feel the need to push straight away. Was 8cm dilated and told not to push and not to scream! After that I was very high on Gas and air so can't really remember much. Ended up that I needed an episiotomy but other wise everything fine. Got my VBAC. Labour was much more painful this time round but think that was because it was much quicker and I got to the pushing stage which I didn't last time even though was 10cm!

Bf not going as well as with first but getting slowly better. Tried to give up and give formula but he doesn't like it so perservering and each time its better. He doesn't seem to open his mouth very wide to latch on.

Emma Your birth experience sounds similar to my first. DS was back to back and labour was 23hours before they decided to emcs. Pain was all in my back although it was the same pain this time and lucas was 'normal'. After all the BH labour pains were totally different!

For anyone worried about episotomy it is not as painful as I thought it would be and far easier to cope with then CS scar. Just lean forward when weeing. Although not done poo yet so that could be a little worse!

Boobz · 15/03/2009 18:51

Fantastic news Emma, Pipsy, Wheely and Babyinbelly! Coming thick and fast now! Sorry to hear your labour and birth were a bit mad Emma, but it sounds like you are on top of it all and enjoying little Luca.

Nothing to report here. My midwife is off work tomorrow and Tuesday, so after all my bitching of wanting to get a move on, I now firmly DON'T want to go into labour until at least Weds, which is day before due date anyway. Nearly there!

How are all the over-due-ers doing? I will do my nut if I go massively overdue...

Well done all new mums again - and gorgeous photos of Lara Wheely... xxx

babyinbelly · 15/03/2009 20:18

popped some pictures on profile if anyone interested.

Wheelybug · 15/03/2009 20:18

Congrats BiB !!

mamasmurf · 15/03/2009 21:13

Big congrats to all the new mamas, i love hearing all the birth stories. They are all so different i not sure it fills me with hope or dread.

Emma it sounds like you had a pretty tramatic time, hopefully all is going well with you now and little Luca.
I find the whole birthing experience tramatic no matter what ( ia m so light weight) Does anyone else feel like this? So hoping for candles and bliss third time round. trying to chill out and take this one as it comes.

Boobz sorry to admit this but i am virtually stocking you as you are due the day after me, which means i'm first

The girls seem to be out numbering the boys so far, I wonder if we will have a boy run this week????

titmouse · 15/03/2009 21:16

congratulations on all the new babies! So many coming now, it's brilliant. Wishing you all a good recovery from your births and thanks for sharing your birth stories - bib I have this real fear/dread of episiotomy so it's reassuring to know yours was ok.

Sunshinesmith · 15/03/2009 21:25

Hi girls,

Congrats to all the new mums Wheely,Emma, Pipsy, and Babyinbelly.

Had an up and down weekend. By Friday night I felt a massive change on my mood- felt really fed up and consumed with anxiety about the welfare of my little monster. Got a really bad night- with mild contractions that developed to nothing.....bah!

Saturday had a very emotional day where I tested my hubby's patience- he was shouted at, sneered at... my poor hubby!

We did everything in the book to prompt the birth.- ordered the curry, ate the pineapple, drank the rabpsberry leaf tea, did the long walk- the only thing I couldn't bother with was the sex..... nada! Nothing!

Thank god that we had a super day out by the sea which did lift my spirits again.

I can now say I am very ready to give birth to my litle one.

Hope you had brill weekends!

kanga5 · 15/03/2009 22:44

congrats to BIB and gorgeous photos...
congrats to pipsy too

mamasurf I am getting anxious about labour too even though it is fifth time for me. I can't help wondering when, how and if everything will be ok for me and baby. I have tried planning for the four others to be cared for but it is too hard to think of everything. I know once it is all over and we are home as a family again everyone is more relaxed and happy.

chill out sounds good...I might try that!!!

Madigan · 15/03/2009 23:48

BIB - many congratulations, and those photos are absolutely gorgeous!!! What a cutie!!

Anyone else got a planned c-section happening this week? I have had one before, and it was fine but this time I am feeling very apprehensive about it ....... the worst bit has to be getting the epidural, but the whole thing is terrifying me a bit at the moment. Not sure why ...........anyone else feel the same way?

Better to lose the plug than lose the plot, I always say.

Boobz · 16/03/2009 09:24

That is exciting PHW! I'm still intact, but don't want anything to happen now until at least Wednesday so that's ok.

Am really piling on the pounds now. I put on 9kg from pre-pregnancy weight to 38 weeks and now seem to have put on 2kg in 2 weeks! Argh! Hope it is all going on baby and I don't end up with a double chin for all the photos (vain vain vain).

Speaking of which, am off to a photo shoot today actually - a friend is doing the PR for an infant mortality charity (African, or some such) and they're taking a press release photo with loads of sleb mums and sleb preggers people, but they also wanted some real people as well, so off I go! I look huge so God knows if they will try and hide me behind some of the sleeker mums-to-be! Still, getting make up done and generally looked after for the day so it should be fun! Will post the pic on here afterwards (and it should be in some of the broadsheets as well).

So have a lovely day ladies - will check in to see if there are any more babies before tomorrow!

xxx

meep · 16/03/2009 09:27

Madigan my elective c-section is a week today. The spinal is the thing that scares me too. Last time I was doped up on morphine and concentrating on not having a contraction when they put in the epidural so it didn't bother me. This time I am sh*tting myself because I will be more aware of what is going on!

But wheely has assured us that the spinal didn't hurt (gorgeous puics by the way wheely) so I am going with that!

And congratulations to pipsy and thankyou for the lovely c-section story - I am hoping mine will be calm this time round withlots of skin to skin.

Am a bundle of hormones today - have cried 3 times already - dh is in a grump (not surprisingly as he had to work all weekend) and he snapped at dd and I just blubbed. Poor wee dd was wiping the tears from my eyes looking a bit bemused. I am just getting so scared about how dd will feel when I bring the new baby home - she is my pfb . I know it will be fine and it will end up being so lovely withtwo but it still scares me!

hedge hooray for the loss of your plug - hopefully things will get moving now!

Congratulations BIB and welcome to baby Lucas! Just think an episiotomy will have saved your bum from damage. I know there is a school of thought that tearing is better, but at least with an episiotomy they can direct the direction of the tear and that will mean that your sphincter is more likley to be intact (can you tell I do cases about this!).

Right - off to update the list!
