you need a virtual drink too auntyspan...
so sorry to hear you've had a bad day

kanga5 · 13/03/2009 20:49

DH home now, I've had enough of my virtual wine, and I am really shattered.

night night

Madigan · 13/03/2009 20:55

Congratulations HC!!!

lilymolly · 13/03/2009 21:21

Sod this virtual crap....Im having a real glass of rose wine

laumiere · 13/03/2009 22:26

Auntyspan, sorry to hear you're having a rough time, but it's early days yet with the BFing. (I'm living proof it can work, failed utterly with DS1 to 'click', but after a few stressful days with DS2 we've got it (he's 3 weeks old tomorrow). One of the best bits of MN advice I ever read was not to make any decisions on BF after 8pm (including deciding how well it's going!) as it often improves in the morning.

Also, if they make you redundant on mat leave you should get preferential on any equivalent jobs. hugs

I'm really missing my husband, he's started back on nights again so won't even be sharing a bed until 19 March and we've all got colds and are miserable!

corgikelly · 13/03/2009 22:28

lilymolly, if it makes you feel any better, I went to a winemakers' festival tonight. Probably tasted about 30 or 40 wines...granted, with tiny sips, that doesn't add up to more than a glass and a half or so, but I did feel delightfully sinful!

aunty, that's terrible -- how can they have made you redundant while you're on leave?

babyinbelly · 14/03/2009 02:42

Sorry to hear you bad news auntyspan. Last thing you need on top of BF is bad news at work. As someone else said, breast is only best for baby if its best for mum. Don't beat yourself up about. You are not a failure if you decide to FF. A ;lot of people dont even attempt BF so every day you have done so far is a bonus and you should be proud of yourself.

Well- I think things are finally moving here. Been having 'feelings' all day that something would happen. BH on the way to nursery this afternoon which I have never had while out of the house before. Went to bed really early as felt a bit funny. Now I am having waves of intense pain in my lower back every 3ish minutes. Same as with my labour with DS so am pretty sure this is it as I cant sit still through it. Just hoping baby is not back to back this time.

Might be nothing but I have a feeling I will have baby soon...

rubyring · 14/03/2009 05:27

oooh, bib that sounds v promising! I am up doing my usual insomnia thing. Thanks for the red riding plot by the way!! Quite like the baby to come after next thurs when I've seen the last one hee hee! xx

meep · 14/03/2009 08:11

aunty that is awful for you. Do they have any alternative jobs you could do - if so I think they have to offer you one?

Keep posting about the bf - you know that I have been there too so probably understand how you are feeling. Go with what is right for you and your family not what you feel you should be doing.

Is it going badly because of your dd's latch/pain or just it being constant and you're exhausted?

I am in total agreement with BIB, be proud that you have got this far.

I have had a cold for the last couple of weeks - keep thinking it has gone but woke up this morning with a sore throat - boo. And dh has to work all weekend so I will haveto try to be energetic with a toddler by myself. Feel exhausted just thinking about it.

Boobz · 14/03/2009 08:45

Morning all!

Sorry to hear your news Aunty - how crap. I hope the BF gets better.

Nothing to report. Sainsbury's, cleaning, napping, reading and general slobbing today. No twingers or nuttin' yet. Hoping yours turns into something BIB!

(Am giving up on the sex thing - we went at it again last night and nothing - NADA! I feel ridiculous at the moment as am so huge so if there is no baby being coerced out at the end of a session, I think I might as well not bother! Poor DH).

xxx

Boobz · 14/03/2009 08:45

That should be twinges. God knows what a twinger is...

jollyjoanne · 14/03/2009 12:02

Hello everyone, congrats to those who have had babies since my last post and good luck to all those who are close to having a new little one.

Aunty sorry that you appear to be having a really rubbish time. Really poor timing with work, hope you manage to sort something out. As for the breastfeeding we should probably create our own little support group.

I am certainly not finding it easy, Mae cried almost non-stop last night because she was hungry but she / me could just not get her to latch on properly and it was making us both stressed and making things harder. Plus becos my milk is only just coming in I am not feeling very good, cold and shivery one second and then hot and sweaty the next.

But then other times she seems to feed so easily, I am hoping it all start to click soon. I've already had the breastfeeding support worker over but typically there was no problem while she was here!

Anyway enough moaning. Mae is gorgeous and very cute and I wouldn't swap her for anything.

As for the epidural thing - my plan was go with the flow and this seemed to work OK for me.

grinningbee · 14/03/2009 12:55

Afternoon everyone!

Isn't it quiet in here today. Still twingey here, and had a very strong BH while in the bath this morning but that's all. Nipper is very very wriggly today.

Raspberry leaf tea... tried it yesterday afternoon and thought the first mouthful was ok - but it did get worse taste wise after that! I did manage to finish the mug without any sugar though. Just about to have one again today. I've found I'm getting a bit snappy with poor dh at the smallest thing at the mo... I hope that's normal!

Got a long day tomorrow and if I'm honest, I'm dreading it as I'll be away from home. Going out to lunch with MIL, and then out in the afternoon followed by a pub quiz which means home time after closing time... this is all well and good for DH but I find sitting on anything other than our squishy sofa really painful! Maybe I should take a pillow. I've already told the landlord I'm going to go into labour on purpose! (Wishful thinking emoticon!).

Boobz · 14/03/2009 13:03

Must go to Sainsbury's. Must clean kitchen. Must make bed.

Arse is firmly rooted to sofa though, it appears. Hmmm.

grinningbee · 14/03/2009 13:31

Best place for bots to be is the sofa

As is drinking rlt with choc chip cookies...

Boobz · 14/03/2009 18:14

DH just came home from playing rugby with the biggest shiner you have ever seen. Now I don't want the baby to come until the swelling goes down as he will look ridiculous in all the photos!

Idiot!

laweaselmys · 14/03/2009 18:45

lol, poor Boobz

I know as soon as I go into labour I will be in the bathroom doing my legs and eyebrows - as I've got lazy but want to look nice in the photos! I suppose it will kill some time. Annoyingly though I've had pregnancy acne the whole way through this PG and just when I though it had settled down it has come back again. Seems a bit unlikely I will have clear skin in time, which even though it's silly is getting me down a bit.

I have had BH on and off all day. I'm trying not to be too optimistic that this might mean something is happening!

Hello ! I'm back and very pleased to announce Lara Florence was born on Thurs 12th at 3.42pm weighing in at 7 lbs 1oz.

I think you know most of hte birth story but we were quite lucky in the end - went into hospital at 1 and we didn't have to wait too long at all. Found the prep for the c-sec quite stressful (hadn't been entirely with it last time) and was in tears but actually wasn't anywhere near as bad as I'd thought. We had the screen lowered when she was delivered so found out the sex ourselves which was nice.

Was then on recovery until 3am because my temp was slightly raised and they deicded to run tests. THurned out I had a slight urine infection. FInally got to the ward (which in my hospital is private rooms which is quite nice) at 3.

Not had much sleep since - Lara seems to have night and day a bit mixed up. For those who are worried about sorting out bfing second time round - so far things are going relatively well although v. early days and finding it stressful as no idea what she's taking.

Feel a bit weak and watery now I'm home but guess its only been 48 hours and probably need to sit down a bit.

Congrats Hopingcat - Auntyspan sorry to hear about redundancy. Try not to stress about the bfing - one day at a time I am telling myself and every day is one day more and its ok to stop at any time if its not working out for any reason.

Anyone shed some light on this - Lara keeps sort of shivering but isn't cold. I think its just similar to the startle reflex but DH is a bit concerned. The MW is out tomorrow so will mention it but in case anyone else has experienced this....

FruitynNutty · 14/03/2009 20:24

OMG! Congratulations Wheely!!! What a beautiful name too! I just love it!
Sounds as if everything went well then, my turn on Weds
Fantastic you managed to get out in 48 hours, I really hope I'll be the same.
I remember when my friend had her daughter at Kingston (it was Kingston right?) she also got he own private room.
I've got no chance at St.George's IT's chocka block. When I visited my friend after her c-section there were even babies in cribs in the hallway ....What have I let myself in for???? I'm going to Kingston next time!

I can't wait to see pictures of your gorgeous little bundle

emma2617 · 14/03/2009 21:34

NEW ADDITION!!! Baby Luca Stephen, born 7th March 00.30 (thats right, he arrived on his due date!!)

Good evening ladies!!! Sorry for my absence, although this time it was for an altogethe better reason! My Little man finaly arrived!

Some of you may remeber me starting a couple of threads on thursday wondering if it was in labour or not...well I was! The contractions came on regular and quite painful straight away at 8.30pm thursday evening, I managed to cope until 4am and then headed to the hospital, was monitored until 9am, given an internal and despite being in total agony as I was feeling everything in my back, was told to go home as I was only 1 cm dilated!
I spent the next several hours in tears on the living room floor on all fours with DP running round after me, before returning to the hospital at 4pm. They then told me (after analysis ofurine sample given on my last visit) that I had a UTI and thats what the pain in my back was mainly contributed to, but that I was in very early labour so they would admit me to the ante-natal ward to make sure I was okay.

We headed upstairs, as we got out of the lift I had a contraction and the ward staff saw me and suggested to the midwife taking me up that as it was the middle of visting maybe they could bring me up later! I obviously didnt look great! Once back downstairs I had another internal that revealed I was now 5cm so I was ushered to th delivery room and given a much needed epidural!

The midwives then told me that baby was back to back which is why i was in such pain and everything was going so slowly! Anyway, they went ahead and broke my waters and all hell broke loose! I went hell for leather but could feel every contraction in my back...but nothing in my belly! So I decided that staying whacked of my tits on gas and air was a good option!

Suddenly at 8cm my body started pushing uncontrolably and I was getting told off for pushing!! Then suddenly the room filled with people, baby ws distressed they inserted the fetal scalp electrode which showed considerabledistress so they were going to use forceps, but they took blood sample from babys scalp which showed dangerous blood gas levels at which point it got super crazy! Emergency c-section time!! General anesthetic, DP abandoned in the delivery room, the whole shabang!

I eventualy came round about 6am ish and was told baby was born in shock so had to go to the NICU. I was transferred to post-natal where I was told baby now had to be on glucose drip as his blood sugars were far too low. I spent saturday night on the ward without Luca expressing every couple of hours so it could be sent across to the NICU.

The enxt day the doctor visited and said I had an infection so needed IV antibiotics, then the day after Luca was jaundiced so they tested him 3 times a day to check his levels, which remained just below the threshold to require treatment. Then on discarge day, Wednesday afternoon, he had lost more than 10% of his birth weight, but fortunately we were allowed home but the midwife has to visit everyday!

But at least we are home and settling in!

Congrats to everyone who has welcomed their new additions while I have been away! And apologies for the above essay...but I have been quite distressed about the whole experience and that was quite cathartic!

emma2617 · 14/03/2009 21:36

Ooops...forgot to say! He was 7lb 9oz at birth!

titmouse · 14/03/2009 22:19

congratulations emma! my, what a rollercoaster, I am so glad that baby Luca is ok and I hope you are all recovering from the traumatic time you had.

corgikelly · 15/03/2009 00:47

Congratulations, emma and wheely!

It's almost 2am, and I'm sitting here googling "increased fetal movements" - Cletus' activity has never kept me from falling asleep before, but tonight it's been unbearable. He's whirling and clawing like a dervish...feels a lot lower down than before, so maybe he's dragging himself into position.

Unfortunately, what I keep finding are pages that talk about a sudden spurt of movement being a potential sign of the baby getting the cord wrapped around its neck. Which means that now he's calmed down and hasn't moved for ten minutes, I'm terrified he's strangled himself.

I can either stay up and keep freaking out, or try to get some rest. Tough call...

corgikelly · 15/03/2009 08:29

Who needed rest?

After two hours of no movement, I called the hospital and they said to come in for a monitoring, just to be on the safe side. So I woke DP up and off we went. Long story short -- everything was fine. Thank god the maternity ward was having a quiet night, or I really would have felt bad about wasting the midwife's time. She was very kind, though, and said that of course the most important thing is to listen to one's body.

The "nice" part, however, was that I did have a contraction while I was hooked up -- so now at least I know what I'll be looking for! And call me dim, but I DID realise why they're called contractions...I felt like my innards were being squeezed through a toothpaste tube!

Right -- gotta go buy some of that wine we tasted Friday night. Happy Sunday to all...

lilymolly · 15/03/2009 09:21

Corgikelly
I am getting worried as I have had no movements either this morning.
Just ate some chocolate and milk to see if that wakes him/her up but starting to get worried
