Sorry for your loss.

But remember this time you will have a baby at the end of it. Also i think your hormones will kick in.

I haven't had an epidural for either of my pervious births and intend not to have one this time. But if you feel you need one then make sure you don't leave it to late before you ask for one.

babyinbelly · 13/03/2009 14:10

Not having epidural here unless c/s is absolutly nec. dont intend on going near hospital until last possible minute.

mum2b09 · 13/03/2009 14:17

Im not on the list lol

grinningbee · 13/03/2009 14:21

No need to say sorry (but thanks)

I'm sure it will be "good" pain this time. I'm just really unsure as to what to ask for and when so will have to play it by ear.

At my 38 week appt yesterday I asked about when to go into hospital and was told to just go when I thought I needed pain relief . My next appt isn't until my due date. I really thought (probably stupidly) that they'd at least see me next week too...

Ok. Have boiled the kettle for the raspberry leaf tea... will report shortly as to the taste!

meep · 13/03/2009 14:30

I like Dashiel Boobz - I think he will sound very cool as he grows up!

babyalfie I have an Emily and we have thought of Rosie if this one is a girl as well !

corgi they are not allowed to give you work when you are on mat leave here. You can arrange keeping in touch days but if you do more than the allotted number then you are technically working and your statutory maternity pay stops! I can almost guarantee that once you meet your baby you will have forgotten what your blackberry is. with dd I was a compulsive checker of my work emails up till the point when I went into labour - then my whole attitude to work changed (hasn't really gobe vback totally to how I was before - but shhhh, don't tell anyone!)

I had an epidural with dd. But to be fair that was towards the end of day3 when they put me onto the syntocin drip - was advised that I would need an epidural at that stage - and I think they anticipated that I might need an emergency section (which I did)!

My view was always just to go with the flow - listen to advice and make a choice depending on risk to me/baby/pain/ tiredness at the time. My mw was pretty good as she never forced any pain relief on me and made me feel that I could do it with just TENS and gas/air - and I might well have done if dd hadn't been OP and stuck!

grinningbee that sounds like a horrible experience and I am so sorry that you had to go through it at home . This time will be different - you will have so many labour hormones swirling around.

I am thoroughly enjoying being bored today

firstduemarch09 · 13/03/2009 14:34

I'm using the RLT bags from Holland & Barrett and on my second box. Admittedly in the beginning they tasted bland and watery, but now I am getting used to them and try to have 2-3 mugs a day. I have one sweetener tablet in each one - hope that doesn't counteract anything! Am 40+2 now so they don't necessarily help things along as quick as we would like!!!

Laurenypops · 13/03/2009 15:20

Anyone stuck at home expecting their first, and feeling bored, please enjoy it! You will never get time to yourself like that again, and I find myself wistfully remembering my first maternity leave during this one, when I have a 2 1/2 year old to entertain!

40+6 by the way, but I'm going to breeze over that!

meep · 13/03/2009 15:24

I totally agree with Lauren

After dd was born and I went back to work I would look forward to reading my book on the bus on the way to/from work!

I've benn adding a drop of blackcurrant squash to the tea which makes it more tasty!

Yest had the tea, a hot curry and shed loads of pineapple after a nice long walk with dog, after no changes i have decided to try and chill and let it come when it wants!

DD's 4th bday today so actually dont know what i would have done if things had started!

laweaselmys · 13/03/2009 16:47

ARGH. We have no car AGAIN.

It's back at the garage waiting for new parts, and we now have the exciting job of convincing the other garage/parts supplier to pay for exactly the same repairs which we just paid to be done a few weeks ago!

kanga5 · 13/03/2009 16:50

Hello all,
I hope you are all having a good day.

Not planning epidural here either. I had a spinal block with DS1, which was a huge relief at the time. I have had three very short labours since so I might not have time anyway!

Picked up tens machine this week so now I feel very ready for labour. Just a few finishing touches to the bags and we're all go. I have 10 days to go but I bet it will go to 20!!! Crikey!!!

Lauren, Meep, I agree I would love to be on mat leave all over again. My MW this week said she quite understood why a lady on her third, fourth or fifth baby would consider a stay at the NHS as a bit of a holiday. Well my bags are packed, just don't know when my holiday starts!!!

Still no word from MKG, anyone else noticed that?

HopingCat · 13/03/2009 17:11

Hi all. I?ve not managed to read the thread yet but thought I?d update you with our news. Matthew Bryan arrived at one week early at 2.21am on Friday 6th March weighing 6lb 15oz.

The labour was very quick, and completely not what I expected given that I was in labour 24 hours with DD. No signs really that I was likely to have baby on that day - no show or anything else. First contractions at 12.08am, after an hour things still seemed to be moving quite slowly. I rang my sister to come and look after DD at 1.20am. Then things sped up ? contractions coming every 2/3 mins and lasting 40 seconds. Then I got the urge to push while still at home trying to get dressed! The journey to hospital (at 50mph, jumping red lights!) took only 10 mins rather than the normal 20mins. I had to pant with every contraction, very frightened at this point. Waters broke in car. Was wheeled through hospital reception kneeling up in a wheelchair, and making a lot of noise I think, but thankfully reception was quiet at 2am. Matthew arrived 9 mins after we arrived in hospital! Wish I?d had time for some pain relief as it was agony, but at least the agony was short! Midwifes kept saying how it was good I made it inside ? apparently they do deliver babies in the car park at times. So whole labour was 2 hours 13 mins and was a positive experience. No pain relief meant I was completely 'with it' and could enjoy my baby immediately. Needed a few stitches but otherwise I was fine. We came home day after. Was hoping to get a same day discharge but Matthew was exhausted and didn?t feed for over 12 hours so we couldn?t go home straight away.

Matthew now doing well, sleeping and feeding very erratically but he doesn?t cry all through the night so I?m thankful for that. He?s a bit jaundiced but that will hopefully do eventually.

Will now try and catch up on the rest of the thread.

Fingers crossed for those of you waiting that you have a nice quick birth like mine

HC

WARNING - PLOT SPOILER FOR RED RIDING EPISODE #2 for rubyring

Hunter goes off to ring his mate at the police station (John, the one he drafted onto the case at the same time as Helen) and says he's got something to tell him so he goes to the police station. He meets John and tells him about Craven killing the barmaid and making it look like the Ripper had done it, and John says Craven is here and down in the "belly" and out of control and they need to sort things out. So they both get up and go down to the belly (the downstairsy bit of the police station) and when they get into the interview room, Hunter sees that Craven has been shot in the head. Hunter turns around to face John and realises that he was a baddy all along (and who had obviously just shot Craven) and then the 2 blond inspecters from earlier walk up behind John so there are now 3 of them looking at Hunter. John then takes his gun and shoots hunter in the stomach. He then puts the gun in Hunter's hand to make it look like Craven and Hunter had had a shoot out and killed each other. Finishes with Mrs Hunter visiting his grave and the dodgy vicar saying "he's found peace Mrs Hunter".

Back from dog walk and am knackered. Could go to bed right now!

kanga5 · 13/03/2009 17:21

wow HopingCat you made it in the nick of time!! great story and a very positive experience. I bet you feel quite exhilarated after that now that it is all over. I would have been panicking a bit too, as a fast labour doesn't give you much time to collect yourself does it?

congratulations

HopingCat · 13/03/2009 17:37

Can anyone link the post natal thread for me? I'm a bit hopeless and can't find it.

Kanga - I felt like whole labour was so quick I wondered if I'd dreamt it. Didn't have time to think about anything. Only knew I should pant in the car to stop the urge to push because I've been watching Portland Babies every day for last month!

Boobz · 13/03/2009 17:43

Just checked Hoping and I don't think there's been one started yet... you could start it up!

I see there is a post natal thread especially for MKG on there though - but not posts from MKG herself recently talking of a birth so still don't know whether she's sprogged yet!

Boobz · 13/03/2009 19:11

Where'd everyone go?

kanga5 · 13/03/2009 19:16

I keep checking and it is a bit quiet...has everyone gone out for Friday drinks?? I wish...

Ps just been cooking dinner then cleaning up after all the mess created...want to crawl off to bed but kiddies seem to need feeding EVERY NIGHT

kanga5 · 13/03/2009 19:20

boobz shall we start a virtual friday night drink...I'd love a glass of Aussie white, what would you like...my shout.

laumiere · 13/03/2009 19:20

grinningbee Erm, sort of! We agreed that we've completed our family and he went for a referral 2 weeks ago, we weren't expecting it to come through so fast! He's over 35 so I think that's why it was quick. I'm thinking that I'll defer my birthday til he's better...

Boobz I love Dashiel! But then mine are Michael and Gabriel so I clearly like the sound .

In other news, Gabriel has caught his big brother's cold, is there anything I can do for him, other than Karvol and lots of breastfeeding?

HopingCat · 13/03/2009 20:04

Laumiere - From what I remember, when DD was under 3 months and got a cold there was nothing at all that can be done unfortunately. I have heard you can get plug-in vapourisers for babies rooms, but don't know if there is any age restriction on it.

Boobz · 13/03/2009 20:19

Mine's a Malbec - anything from 2005. Glug glug.

DH home now so I won't be bothering you all so much - have been bored off my tits all day, can you tell?

Tis a full moon tonight ladies... reckon we're due a couple of labours to start tonight...
