good luck today, wheely!

Littlemisskiwi · 12/03/2009 07:57

Hi ladies

Just a quick post. I gave birth to my baby girl safely at home, in our living room as planned on 4 March 2009 (11 days early). It was a lovely calm birth, using TENs machine and a birthing pool. I used acupressure too. Contractions lasted 27 hours in total with 6 hours of active labour.

Her name is Bethan Sian, she weighed 6bls 14oz.

Hope everyone else is doing well.

Boobz · 12/03/2009 08:12

Fabulous news Littlemisskiwi! Sounds like a great hb story. Am so jealous you got yours 11 days early!

Well after the following yesterday:

Bouncing on ball for an hour
Reflexology for an hour
2 x dog walks for an hour each time
Nipple stimulation (for 10 mins - couldn't bear it any longer)
Thai curry
Vigourous sex with DH (TMI - sorry!)

and still no baby. Where's that Castor Oil?

Congrats to new ones!

Hope all goes ok for you today wheely.

I am 41 weeks tomorrow. seeing mw today for check so hopefully baby will be nice and engaged. at least i can be sure it will be here in the next week.

corgikelly · 12/03/2009 09:21

Congrats to honey and kiwi! Fearless...Rolf Harris? That's just sad.

boobz, I'm tired just reading about your activities. Perhaps if you outsourced and administered the castor oil to DH?

I think I may be the only one on the board to be quite content to sit tight until my due date and beyond -- I'm just too chicken to face what's coming!

Right - today is my first day of leave, and as I knew if I didn't get out out of the house I'd be skulking in and working, I'm off for a prenatal massage, a visit to the aestheticienne (cannot welcome new baby with Georges Pompidou eyebrows) and a haircut. Then out to dinner with friends. And THEN I'll probably come skulking into my office and see what's in my inbox...

titmouse · 12/03/2009 09:41

corgi I'm not desperate to get this baby out, due in 16 days and happy to see what happens despite every so often exclaiming to husband that I've had enough of waiting!

congratulations honey and misskiwi that's wonderful news I hope you are enjoying your first days with your newborns.

Wheelybug · 12/03/2009 09:53

Guess what ? Still here . But not for much longer - am going in for 1 pm but have been warned they are busy for c-secs today (people probably avoiding friday 13th tomorrow !) so will be later so it looks like I will only early by a few hours (due date tomorrow). At least they let me have breakfast !

Congratulations Misskiwi, lovely news ! Well done.

Noodle07 · 12/03/2009 10:21

Feeling fed up today.
Had to get up six times last night to stretch my aching legs and was only in bed just over 7 hrs. In DS's pregnancy I gave birth yesterday (38+2) so somehow thought the same timescale would apply, ridiculous really.

Need to snap out of it as I've technically still got 11 days until due date, although EVERYONE keeps saying that I won't last that long - because baby is so low/i'm big, blah, blah... they are giving me false hope. And the phone calls, 'so you haven't given birth yet', or 'you aren't in labour yet then'. Ahhhh

Sorry rant over...

Good luck with later today Wheely and congrats to all who have their babies.

meep · 12/03/2009 10:52

Good luck today wheely - looking forward to ehearing your news.

Congratulations to misskiwi.

I don't want to be early either - maybe we should start a support thread fro those of us who want to get to our due date or beyond !

I cried yesterday because dd woke up after I'd only been asleep for an hour and I though dh wasn't home and was getting trolleyed - came downstairs and there he was on the computer - so I cried on him because I was so pleased. I then cried because I could hear dd over the baby monitor saying "I love you" (in toddler speak) - awwwwwww!

But Rolf Harris.........fearless

I am sooooooooooo tired today - I just want to sleep for ever. I have allocated tomorrow as a day for doing NOTHING - I will not nest, I will drop dd at nursery then go back to bed. I can't wait!

rubyring · 12/03/2009 11:10

i had the grand total of 5 contractions last night then absolutely bugger all! very strange all this waiting....waiting...waiting...!

auntyspan · 12/03/2009 12:32

wheely thinking of you - looking forward to hearing your news.

LittleMissKiwi - gorgeous name, and well done you!

Hang in there everyone else.... they'll come when they're good and ready!

Am going to persist with the BF (although this morning wasn't successful, I suspect the bottle I introduced is confusing her ) and try not to beat myself up if it doesn't work out for much longer.

However, I have lost over a stone since coming out of hospital so it has its benefits!

twocutedarlings · 12/03/2009 12:47

Hi All,

Sorry yet again ive not read all the posts

Aunty please remember breast is only best for baby if its best for mum!!! you come first here IMO!! but for now just try setting your self little targets, IE see how you feel about BF in a couple of days.

Meep (((hugs))) please try to go easy on your self, BFing isnt the be all and end all, however i certainly found BFing DD2 much much easier than DD1 and again Alex has been easier still!!. I actually fed DD1 using nipple shields from birth until she was 4mths i then went on to feed her until she was over 12 mths. I had lots of negative comments about using them though HV MWs ect!! i know for a fact that without them i would have had to give DD1 formula, i had (notice the had LOL) really flat nips prior to BFing and DD1 would just constantly slip off. Personally i would try the first few feeds without them and see how you go, then at the first sign of any sorness use the shields, at least until you feel confident.

Wheely Im gutted i didnt check this earlier!! ive missed all the excitment!! i hope today/tomorrow all goes really well for you xxxxx

Welcome all our new arrivals xx

lollipopz · 12/03/2009 14:06

Good luck today wheely, although you will be at the hospital by now! look forward to hearing your news. where is everyone today? Law, Hedge, Boobz, everyone! Feel like you must all have went off birthing and left me behind. Hope MKG is back soon with some news too. x

laweaselmys · 12/03/2009 14:14

Not off birthing -

congrats littlemisskiwi and good luck today wheely

  • nope, I have just been trying to keep busy and dwell less on the fact that nothing much is going on! Went to the cinema yesterday with a friend - she got all panicky when I jumped at a scary bit thinking I had gone into labour! Took ages to get home after as even with the engine replaced there is clearly something very wrong with the car. DP is home today trying to find out what is wrong so we can fix it. Have spent the morning sanding down and painting the cot MIL gave us (she used it for her last DD) I want to get it done as quickly as possible so that hopefully the paint fumes will be clear before baby girl starts using it.

Madigan · 12/03/2009 14:43

congratulations little miss kiwi, and GOOD LUCK to wheely today -

well, after months of complaining about excrutiating pain in my bladder area I have finally been diagnosed with "pubic symphisis separation" - which apparently means the ligaments in my pubic bone are stretched and inflamed ... and that is why I am in so much pain ............. anyone else had this? Doctor said that it can be serious, and I must be careful so that it mends properly after the birth. Would love to know if anyone has tips for managing the pain or for helping it to heal?

Thanks xx

babyinbelly · 12/03/2009 17:43

no experience of that madigan - sorry. hope someone has good advice for you.

been to see mw today and she seems very keen for c/s despite being so supportive of VBAC at booking in! Trying to explain that ds was 12days late did not help and she kept going on about the fact if I don't go in to labour naturally I will have less chance of VBAC.

Hoping they will give me plenty of time to go in to labour but they just seem so keen to book a c/s. Suppose it saves them a lot of hassle.

Boobz · 12/03/2009 17:58

Still here lollipoz! Been pottering about all day - just got back from vigourous dog walk up and down the common but not seemed to have done anything. Am going to have a cold glasss of vino in a minute - will make me feel better if nothing else!

No experience of that Madigan, but must have been annoying to find out that was what all the pain was rather than labour pains! I keep wondering whether I will know when I go into labour - everyone seems to have contractions for ages before things really kick off!

Baby - hold out for as long as you can - you're not on their timetable - your on yours and your LO's!

Lamb hotpot for dinner tonight - yum!

Boobz · 12/03/2009 17:58

So who is due next?

lizziemun · 12/03/2009 18:04

ME ME ME .

Oh no that just wishfull thinking am now 40+4 and bored, it must be my turn next.

I have had back ache and strong bh/contractions for the last 10 days but nothing happening.

FruitynNutty · 12/03/2009 19:33

Well I'm not due yet as such but eviction day is on Weds I'm sure they'll be a few more who've dropped by then though

Hoping that congratulations are in order by now Wheely.
Madigan - sorry for SPD, haven't had personal experience, but have heard of it - can you get some physio to help?
Boobz - with DS, I had no warning signs of labour before the day itself. Do remember the day or two before being really tired walking and having heavy bump and that was probably braxton hicks, but my labour (I think, although wasn't aware) started with period pains at 4am, which went with hot water bottle. Then when I really started up with contractions at lunchtime, it was a bit of "is it, isn't it", so started timing length and interval and by 2.30pm it was a definite - these must be real contractions. As the books say, if you're not sure it's labour, it very likely isn't, but if it is labour, you will know it is - IYKWIM.
Had a little more movement today (aided by bath this morning, which seemed to move LO when I splashed my bump), so will see how goes, but may go in to day assessment unit for monitoring tomorrow morning.
No signs of actual labour though, just plenty of BH.
As for hormonal, DH and I went to cinema today while DS was at childminder - first time we've been to cinema in 3 years (don't see the point in sacrificing our precious couple time to sit in a darkened room!). Saw Marley and Me and I absolutely blubbed - thought I would be laughing, but think even DH had a tear in his eye!

lilymolly · 12/03/2009 20:19

Oh I am going to see marley and me at the weekend (unless baby decides to make an appearance) (which would be nice)
I have 2 labradors and cried at the book, so I am sure I will be an emotional mess.

Took the pineapple tonight so fingers crossed.
