I've done some snooping & found that it appears to be part of a series of photos from 1993. Still not really much the wiser but have noticed in one of the photos that the school's current head (who was my headmaster for most of my time there) was also most definitely present in his former capacity as deputy head (he left the school, then returned as head 10 years later).

I'm doubting that he wants his (super-strict, 'moral', "no inter-pupil physical contact of any description EVER", slightly mad & dictatorial) face associating with these antics...
