Hello!

Am going to catch up on this HUGE!! thread when I get back from antenatal but just wanted to say

springy my DS1 was born at 34 weeks and he was just fine. He was 4 lb 9 oz (even though they said he had IUGR as my placenta wasn't working properly ), he was ready to go home within 5 days they did end up keeping him in another 5 days but that was only because he was jaundiced and easier and quicker to treat there.

No probs - he's 9 now!

Catch up with you all later!

Claireykitten · 02/03/2009 09:44

Morning girlies hope we are all feeling reasonably well this bright and sunny morning.

Reading through this mornings posts has reminded me that I should get some Raspberry Leaf Tea as I am willing to try anything to encourage my body to be receptive to labour this time round. Am I right in thinking that at 34 weeks I am ok to start thinking about drinking it? Which is going to be better the teabags or taking the capsules?

Also since I am in questiony mode am I right in thinking there is something I can be drinking/taking to help with milk production as I am DETERMINED I am going to manage to breastfeed this time and although it was an undiagnosed tongue-tie that ruined it for us last time I just feel that I wasnt producing milk very well as I never got the being uncomfortable if I didnt feed him regularly and things like that so again I would like to be doing whatever I can to make it work this time round.

Claireykitten · 02/03/2009 09:48

Ahh forgot I was also meaning to ask about Bleuravin. She hasnt posted for the last 2 threads and I was wondering whether I have just forgotten that she said she wouldnt be on or something. I am only asking as she is my Buddy but I am struggling to work up the guts to actually text her to see if she is ok which is very very pathetic of me! Maybe I will do it later, I really should shouldnt I .

purplemonkeydishwasher · 02/03/2009 09:49

clairey - it probably had more to do with the tongue-tie than your ability to make milk (the more a baby sucks the more milk you make, but if he wasn't sucking well then your body wouldn't respond, IYSWIM)

are there peer supporters in your area? It's a good time to get in touch with one now so you can meet and talk before the baby is born.

BabyBolat · 02/03/2009 09:50

Hey Clairey - yeah we were all wondering about Bleu - think Nutty was going to email her later in the week if we hadn't heard from her but why not drop her a text anyway...

Am afraid I don't know anything about milk production but sure someone will!!

LuLu - that is just what I wanted to hear - seems so pointless washing them over and over again!!!

BabyBolat · 02/03/2009 09:52

Knowing Bleu she has probably immersed herself in a big nesting project as she has more energy than I can ever imagine this far in pregnancy!

purplemonkeydishwasher · 02/03/2009 09:57

and springy - remember i told you all about my friend? she had her baby at 34 weeks. there were nursing issues as generally a baby doesn't get the suck replex until 36 weeks but he's still ok. he was being fed through a tube but I just got a text from her, BF is nearly established and she and baby are getting home today!!! (he was born 2 weeks ago) so 34 weeks isn't taht bad. it would just mean he'd have to be in SCBU for a little while.

LuLuBai · 02/03/2009 10:00

Clairey I started on the Rapberry Leaf Tea at the weekend.

And for encouraging milk production try Fennel Tea. You can get that in most large supermarkets - I really like Twinings Fennel and Nettle Tea but had to lay off it when I was breastfeeding as I was literally spurting milk all over the place 24/7.

Talking of which - has anyone ever found decent reusable breastpads? I tried a few out last time but found they weren't properly waterproof, they were itchy (which was really hellish) and they always ended up lumpy after being washed a few times. I occasionally used them for night time but that was as much as I could bear.

I did use those plastic stick on ones for swimming and occasionally dressy wear as they didn't show through. But as they actually block the milk from coming out, rather than absorbe leakage my boobs really hurt if I wore them for any length of time.

Seems rather ironic that I use washable nappies but get through crates of disposable breast pads though, so am willing to give it another go.

Morning Smutty

Righty - I must get out and tackle my chores for the day. It looks like sensational weather so I must get out while it stays that way.

Later x

Juwesm · 02/03/2009 10:24

Hello - sorry to interrupt, is it too late to join your group? I'm due beginning of April and have only just discovered Mumsnet after recommendation from a friend. I'm 35+5 and have just started my maternity leave and imagine I'll be spending an awful lot of the next few weeks attached to this computer!

B52s · 02/03/2009 10:27

Morning all, am supposed to be working but have just caught up with Springy's epic night! Ooops, nevermind. Only 4 weeks left of work and then 3 weeks off before the birth - but won't be too relaxing looking after DS1 (2). Still be taking him to CM though so can have a bit of time to myself.

BabyBolat · 02/03/2009 10:33

Hey Juwesm - never to late to join - when is your due date and we will add it to the list xx

Do you know what you are having (pink / blue), where abouts are you from? Do you have names picked out? (see all the questions - you don't have to answer if you don't want to!!!)

We are a chatty lot so glad you will part of the computer addicts!!

Morning Smutts and B52!

OddEyes · 02/03/2009 10:40

Ohh! Was just poping in to give my best wishes to Barbarelly and see that the thread will be finishing soon, scan back and hear of Mrs Springyhaving contractions. Hope you resting up now and that uterus + lo give you some peace.
Must pop back out though now as my 5mins MN time before starting to do some work for school (what is mat leave again?) has turned into 40 mins.
Opps almost forgot, BARBARELLY!!! Hope that you have a lovely day today, enjoy the sun and quiet. Praying that tomorrow is full of good health for all of you, joy and excitement as you meet your babies!

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 02/03/2009 10:41

Hello Juwesm Welcome - would you like to join our buddy system?

Morning B52s - yay for mat leave soon!!

OP posts:
BabyBolat · 02/03/2009 10:42

ooooh also Barbarelly I was thinking maybe as a final post tonight you could tell us which colours you are having???!!! Don't worry if you don't want to, I suppose we can wait a little bit longer...!!!

Juwesm · 02/03/2009 10:44

Thanks BabyBolat. Am due 1st April (source of much entertainment for all at work!). Don't know what we're having, but have been referring to it as 'him' for months for no particular reason, so my money is on blue.

Names very difficult. Both DH and I are big fans of fairly plain, old-fashioned names, but I am easily swayed! I like Freya (Freja, not sure) for a girl. Suppose that is fairly modern and also very old-fashioned! If a girl, middle name probably Susan after late MIL. Someone once referred to the Bump as Hugo (for reasons I no longer recall) and that seems to have stuck, so if it is a boy, may find it hard to call him anything else!

Am in Kent, this morning enjoying the lovely sunshine, wondering what to do with myself and why I didn't hang on for another week at work!

Good morning to all!

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 02/03/2009 10:48

Morning OddEyes

Enjoy your beautiful babies xxx

What are our collective views on whether chocolate will bring on labour - I have just eaten an entire buttons easter egg (impressive I know) and am hoping that might do the trick....

Juwesm · 02/03/2009 10:56

Yes please Smutty re: buddy system. Though not entirely sure what it is! Have lived with computers for years and married to computer geek, but forums always make me feel like some aged parent struggling to work the video recorder!

BB - This is our first LO. Am a little concerned I am too relaxed about the whole thing as have a total of ZERO experience with tiny babies, having no little siblings/ cousins etc, and got Saturday job at Boots instead of babysitting as a teenager! If only I'd known then....

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 02/03/2009 10:57

dont think chocolate helps bring on labour sorry BB xx

you bouncing on a spacehopper yet?
