BoffinMum · 23/02/2009 12:18

Nutty, you would ask, wouldn't you???

Brother came to stay, went to take him a cup of tea in the morning, and -ahem- found he had company.

She was a pretty little French thing so I couldn't really blame him. And he was quite fit when he was younger.

She was a lovely AP, I quite miss her. Amazing cook, great fun, taught DD lots of cute French songs and her dad always sent a fab bottle of prize vino over form his personal cellar when she went home for a holiday.

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 23/02/2009 12:19

yarrrgggghh BB

BoffinMum · 23/02/2009 12:20

Frekkles, I like Harris. An unusual name but easy to spell. Genius.

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 23/02/2009 12:21

Boffin i think i'm hardwired to sniff out smutt

BoffinMum · 23/02/2009 12:22

BB I have a handful of Minstrels left in my handbag from the cinema yesterday.

frostyfrekkles · 23/02/2009 12:24

not 100% decided. I still feel a wee bit odd about naming someone before I've met them. But isobel is a name I've always wanted to give a daughter and tis a good scottish name, a family name and also john's mum's middle name. so it feels right. Boy's name's we're having problems with, but harris is the first one we've both really liked. The surname issue seems to be coming good too, john has called the wee one both surnames a few times in the last week. I haven't made a song and dance about it as i don't want him to feel he's climbing down, but it looks positive

I'm glad to be feeling happier too. I hope it lasts. I know i need to not be intouch with my ex anymore now, he completely knocks me off my kilter. sad but pragmatic and i don't want to hurt this baby by being stressed and upset.

sorry you're in pain my friends (((((((((((((((((((bighugs))))))))))))))))))

Many commisserations on the braxton hicks bb and springy, but then congratulations too because it must mean that your wombs are limbering up and you'll have a baby in one hand, a g and t in the other in no time and hands free milking devices on your norks in no time. And it'll be summer and we'll all have waists again!

SpringySunshine · 23/02/2009 12:25

Wedding photos for people without Facebook - they're all backwards & I don't know how to change it, but you can see them at least

SpringySunshine · 23/02/2009 12:29

Apple & banana? But that's healthy! & it doesn't even go with tea! This just isn't acceptable - phone DH & insist that he returns home immediately bearing chocolate

& oh gosh, a waist! Frekkles, a waist! Imagine! (Although perhaps I need to calm down about the chocolate issue if I want one of those )

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 23/02/2009 12:32

what is this waist thing??? bring on the alcohol (though i havent had any for so long i will probably be drunk on one sniff lol)

Frekkles it really is so lovely to hear you're in your happy place and so upbeat xx

BabyBolat · 23/02/2009 12:34

I know! I was cutting it up thinking what on earth am I doing but tis a bit cold for ice cream! Maybe ahot chocolate will help a little until DH can bring home supplies...

LOL and sniffing our Smutt nutty! So true tho

A waist really - I caught myself in the mirror at the weekend and was wearing a smock dress thing in tights (very loose and comfy) but just looked like a barrel - no shape at all!! Bring on the waist!

frostyfrekkles · 23/02/2009 12:36

aw glad you like harris i thought it was rather good too. It's a good scottish name aswell, a beautiful island with some amazing beaches and could easily be harry too. I like names than can be nicknamed so you have the choice of what people can call you.

do you think it's better not to have a middle name when you've got 2 surnames?

bb, do you have flour, cocoa, sugar, eggs etc? i think it would be wise to make a chocolate cake pronto

Claireykitten · 23/02/2009 12:37

A waist? Whats one of those? I dont think I have had one of those since I was 18!!!!

Thank you very much Springy. You looked absolutely stunning how you managed to get all that sorted and arranged in the time you did I do not know! Mine took 5 months to arrange and I dont think it was any better or even as good as that (but thats probably cos my mum took over though!)

SpringySunshine · 23/02/2009 12:37

Haha, I got really tipsy twice over the weekend - the first time being the worst, as it was at the restaurant with our families & I only had a tiny glass of champagne for the toasts. I ended up with that strange heavy-arm sensation & feeling really light-headed, whispering to my dad next to me that I was going to 'take MIL outside' (I wasn't really, especially as I'm never a violent drunk, but the idea of it was greatly amusing at the time). The second time was in the hotel room where I had other things to concentrate on, so didn't notice so much - although I was definitely very giggly & forthright

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 23/02/2009 12:42

frekkles -i think its fine to have a middle name with 2 surnames (though middle names hardly get used)

frostyfrekkles · 23/02/2009 12:45

I OFFICIALLY CAN'T WAIT TO GET DRUNK AGAIN!

Especially with john, i love getting off my tits with him. we have some lovely sex sunday daytime when he was wasted and silly still, and i was just giggly and happy. Reminded me of last summer when we just seemed to do nothing but have sex, get wasted and run around in the sunshine. roll on summer

this morning was lovely too though. I woke up first and john was still asleep, so i lay for a wee while savouring the quiet. then he woke up and we chatted for a few minutes, and then the bump must have heard our voices cause it started wiggling and joining in. made me feel like a family, was really cute. john started sining three is the magic number .

I'm glad to be feeling happy too. it's a continual process letting go isn't it? I'm sure there's still sadness ahead but it does get a little better every week.

SpringySunshine · 23/02/2009 12:47

I was just thinking about how envious I am of you, BB - you get your baby so soon! & where is Barbarelly? I want her back to update us on everything She'd better come back with photos of her babies the second they're out.

& thank you, Clairey I actually can't believe we organised it all in 16 days - a lot of it was sheer fluke, I think! We came across a few really good little businesses who were very helpful & eased the stress a great deal. I'm intending to write some nice letters to people who really did us proud, as I really am very impressed. It does make a mockery of planning a wedding for 3+ years & spending hundreds of thousands of pounds on it, though - you can't enjoy much more of it than we did anyway, & end up just paying for people you barely know to get drunk!

frostyfrekkles · 23/02/2009 12:53

yeah good on you springy. I know a couple who remortgaged their house and spent 25 grand on their wedding. they divorced six months afterwards and are still paying for it so sad.....not that it's wrong to spend a fortune in time and money on a wedding if you want to and have the right perspective. i think that it's the intention behind it that's important. so many people seem to just focus on the wedding and not the marriage. and when the dust's settled and the bills keep coming there's not the planning to fill the whole anymore. tis weird.

do you mind me asking how much your wedding cost springy?

Claireykitten · 23/02/2009 12:56

I completely agree Springy I dont think I would have wanted anymore time to arrange it because it would just be longer to get stressed and wound up but I couldnt really have done it any quicker as my mum made my dress and my bridesmaids dress and also did all the flowers so I think any quicker would have been expecting too much!!

I have to say that looking at your pictures has made me look at all our wedding photos on the computer and it does bring back so many nice memories.

SpringySunshine · 23/02/2009 13:11

Hmm, I'm not yet 100% sure of the cost, because I've kind of just been flailing my card around at people & not thinking about it. I'm getting pretty much everything back off my parents anyway (there's some stuff that I just won't mention to them, but they're insisting on paying for 'everything', despite me not expecting, or even hoping, for that when I started).

Dress, after alterations & so on, came to about £250.
Shoes & bolero about £80.
DH's suit / shoes about £150.
Cake £35.
All flowers about £150.
Registry office fees / certificate totalled (I think) £105.
My hair & make up £150.
Meal (not including drinks, apart from toast champagne) was about £250.
Rings about £300.
Honeymoon hotel £100.

Then obviously other people paid for their own clothes / hair (& make up) / transport to Sheffield / hotel rooms (including the really posh room in the nice hotel that I spent with my family on the Thursday night, but I'm not counting that in this)... That sort of thing. But in total, for the wedding, I suppose it was about £1500, as a rather generous estimate.

BabyBolat · 23/02/2009 13:11

I know springy - 5 weeks today - 5 weeks!! the countdown really begins now! I can still remember finding out 31 weeks ago on the one hand it feels so long ago but then that phonecall from the dr saying "you don't have appendicitis, but you are pregnant.." also feels like yesterday!

Springy a friend of mine spent close to £60k on her wedding (that's half a house!!) and whil it was nice, it wasn't actually that enjoyable or relaxing and definitely no better than some of the less expensive weddings I have been too.

We did spend too much on out wedding (no where near the £60k mark tho) which on the one hand I regret because it did set us back financially but on the other hand had such a fantastic day it all seems worth it and I wouldn't have chnaged anything really.

I was glad we did ours in 5 months as even that bored me slightly I can't imagine spending years planning it!

frostyfrekkles · 23/02/2009 13:13

that's amazing springy weel done. I so respect you, you've so got your head screwed on x you're going to have an amazing marriage x

Schulte · 23/02/2009 13:15

I showed DD our wedding photos on Friday and she was so excited, she kept pointing and shouting 'There's daddy!', and she did that with EVERY single photo and there's hundreds of them! So sweet.

Our wedding was very low key and PIL contributed only a little, complaining about the cost of it all. Then DH's sister got married and they suddenly realised how much a 'proper' wedding costs - her budget must have been something like 40k. I think they felt a bit guilty about not helping us more. Still, we had a lovely day and I wouldn't have wanted it any other way.

frostyfrekkles · 23/02/2009 13:16

bb, your wedding photos are so bloody beautiful that they make me ache x

five weeks ! 'kin hell..... i'm in single figures now, 9 weeks for me i think... crikey. it's ludricrous really

BoffinMum · 23/02/2009 13:17

I have to say Springy your wedding looked like something that cost at least 5 times that so you could always become a wedding planner in your next life.

My parents were great about paying for mine. It took a lot of stress off me and DH, and also meant we could have a really glam one. As there are very few girls in the family, everyone had been gagging for a really good wedding for about 20 years, and we were happy to provide. My mum said, and I quote, she was delighted to shell out because they had been so worried that I was on the shelf, and they were mightily relieved someone had taken me on.

!!

AP now hoovering a radiator as I type. This is getting good. I was also offered lunch.
