Here ya go, new thread! We're almost there!!!!!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Ineedmorechocolatenow · 22/03/2009 20:54

Lauraloo - I have chronic SPD and it certainly comes and goes. I have good days where I feel quite normal (and I have to remember not to do too much) and then days where getting off the sofa, or rolling over in bed seem like gargantuan tasks. It's not a permanent pain, by any means... I wouldn't have the raspberry tea until 36 weeks as it can be quite effective....

Mrsmc - great idea for thread title!

choccie your day sounds lovely yesterday!

Off to veg in front of the sofa in my PJs....

xx

insywinsyspider · 22/03/2009 22:14

mrsmcj glad you got book, don't get too scared it scared me before ds2 too, a few of us on our an thread read it and I was worried but it has some good hints, hows ds eating today? could the milk be affecting his appetite? ds2 is 15 months and has 7oz of formula at bed time and maybe 2oz of cows with mid afternoon snack

tee of hedgewitches fast labour! I was hoping for a much quicker second labour, something like 3 pushes and he'd be out... nope 1hr of pushing later, although beats ds1's 2.5hrs, I think I have a weird type of u bend....

thanks for all your thoughs on cramps, I'm getting them on and off at moment so easing, I think its baby changing position as still managing to get my 10 movements a day, worrying less today

sounds like everyone had lovely mothers days great day here, when to church with IL's then back to my mum n dad's (with IL's) for lunch so got well looked after, ds1 made me a beautiful butterfly picture (already knew bout it he told me all about it yesterday ) and dh bought me some lovely ear rings, shame its the end of the weekend

Naat · 23/03/2009 08:29

Morning ladies!

ermin at your ILs being embarrassed about your BF haha, and your little DS owning up to his "bodily gases" (as your ILs might say)

I'm glad you enjoyed Argie food. If you go to a good place, the meat is to die for, really.

Insy lovely pressies you got from your DC and DH! Glad you had a lovely day with the family.

Lauraloo you also got a lovely pressie! Hope Tuesday's physio appt goes well and that it helps your pain...

Ermin and MrsMc thanks for the explanations about raspberry leaf tea

Tee glad to hear about Hedge's quick labour We definitely hope to follow those steps, huh?

MrsMc loved the idea for the new thread! . The HB plan includes many things on calmness and relaxation but also the usual things like who you want to cut the cord, etc. It is assertive but not "aggressive" as it says in the book and the rest of the pages they give you that it's better to have the "medical and midwifery team on your side" It's like 3 pages long, but then I don't know if the non-HB ones are like that or longer I felt it included everthing, I guess, so we were quite satisfied when we went through it.

It's reaaaaaaaally windy over here, the whole night was like that... It's cloudy as well so I guess not a very "let's go for a walk" day . I think it's raining now, actually

Hope you have great days, Juners!

bunnymother · 23/03/2009 09:34

Morning ladies!

Naat - Argie beef is heaven - DH's favourite place to go is also Groucho. His love of steak knows no limit! Ah, the memories of cocktails over Argie steak...

MrsMcJnr - love the thread name! Is your apartment settled yet?

Tee - you are a bringer of good news w a fast labour story, bless you!

Weather not so great today, but have lots of chores - find me a TENS machine (good) and start cleaning/packing (not good) - so can prob do without the distraction.

Have a lovely day, Juners!

June2009 · 23/03/2009 09:57

insy Which book is this?
I've borrowed "The secret of happy parents" by Steve and Sharon biddulph from the NCT class. They've written a few more. Hopefully I can pick up some parenting tips :S

mrsmcjr I like thread title ;)

Laura SPD comes and goes to depending on how often I do my exercises and how careful I am with with my posture.
I usually remember the exercises at least twice a day but the physio recommended 6 or 7 times.

I kept waking up last night feeling anxious abut the amount of work I have to do before birth, and how I am going to cope with working from home straight away after birth.
At least we can plan for dh to take 2 weeks paternity leave and get some people to do his job and hope this will be long enough to sort out some kind of routine.
Note to self: I need to find a sling I can breastfeed with that allows me to type as well. and some nipple shields.

I've also started to think about more practical things like when do you get a high chair? I don't need to get one right now, do I? From what I read the rough age the baby can be put in one is around 4mo and/or when they can hold their head on their own.
I'm wondering if we need to get all the safety stuff (plug covers, barriers for stairs,) in before the birth or before the baby can crawl ifswim.
I'd rather know before the health visitor comes round to tell me my knives shouldn't be in the bottom drawer.
Is there an official/government source for that kind of stuff?

I guess the 4D scan made everything that little bit more real ;)

dreamydowler · 23/03/2009 10:03

good morning everyone. I had such a lovely day yesterday BBQ went really well although the wind came up quite strong after a couple of hours. My older children bought me a garden bench to sit on what a lovely present and I got some smellies and a nan plaque off my gorgeous granddaughter.
Busy week ahead with my scan and gtt on wednesday Cant believe Im 28 weeks tomorrow going really quickly. Got so much decluttering to do and my tumble drier has stopped working good job its such a windy day. I start my holiday entitlement followed by maternity leave on wednesday yippee as struggling now to keep going. Only two more weeks befor kids break up for easter so want to try to get as much done as possible before then. Have a good day today everyone

lauraloo09 · 23/03/2009 10:11

morning all

ineedjune so I take it the pain of SPD does come and go oh well. Suppose I'll wait and see what the physio says tomorrow.

dreamy glad your bbq went well and lucky you finishin up this week must be a great feeling.

Well this is my last day of my sick line and, it may sound terrible, but I wish I was off longer, the past week has been great and done wonders for the pains I was feeling.

A big hello to everyone else x

helpivegottogivebirth · 23/03/2009 10:43

What do you do for a living June as a freelancer?
i'm freelancer too and can't imagine/cope with just switching off for months after the birth. Imagine the emails that will stack up...

Tee2072 · 23/03/2009 11:05

Good Morning!

laura can you get it extended? I almost got mine extended and then forced myself to come to work today. Now I'm kind of regretting that decision.

june I am not worrying about a high chair/baby proofing the flat until the baby can actually move on its own! I might get the stuff in, if I see it, for covering plugs etc, but I will probably not actually do anything about it for awhile! Then again, my Step Dad will be coming over with my mum for at least 2 weeks after baba comes, and he loves doing that kind of stuff, so maybe I'll ask him to do it!

OP posts:
lauraloo09 · 23/03/2009 11:14

tee i could easily get the sick line extended but a part of me feels guilty for not being at work and lying in my bed...although lying in bed the past week has been great been seriously considering taking all my annual leave in 2 weeks time and bringing forward my maternity leave date by 4 weeks only prob with that is I would start back on 15th feb next yr instead of 8th march

june like tee I was going to hold off buying a high chair until baby is around 4/5 months and also I was going to 'baby proof' the house when baby is more mobile, no doubt my FIL (quite an intimidating, although sweet, man he was an army sergent so you can only imagine what he's like) will pop over and do all the baby proofing straight away

June2009 · 23/03/2009 12:26

helpivegottogivebirth dh and I run two small companies together, we have an office and a home office which I work from.
Stopping completely is just not feasible and it woud take ages to train someone.

I had a trained assistant/accountant who left me in the middle of things at the worst time. Hopefully my work load will be less once the new book-keeper is all up to date and running smoothly. Dh is also taking on more of my stuff as he has assistants who can take on more of the labour side of things.

So we can sort it out so I have more "free" time but right now the pressure is on to get to that point.

loooouise · 23/03/2009 13:00

Hello all,

Well, I am very jealous of all your lovely Mother's Day attentions, although babyfather did text me to wish me a happy Expectant Mother's Day which was rather sweet I thought.

June love your 4d pic, she's a wee honey, I'm going to try and put mine up now!

MrsMcJnr sorry to hear about the sadness you sometimes feel about your relationship with your mum, but please don't feel guilty about expressing it - everybody understands that our relationships with our mothers is probably the singularly most complex one in our lives and nobody would judge you.

I spoke to my mum yesterday. I avoided the whole giving birth in London bombshell, but said that I was definitely not going to go up North at 36 weeks, as I had found this fab NCT class. She was surprisingly OK about it, but I think I'll tell her that I actually want to stay down here until term and then ask her to come and stay for a week when I see her face to face.

My friend gave me an Amby on Friday which my brother helped me assemble yesterday and I've left it up in my bedroom! I just love looking at it thinking about darling newborn lying in it! (although I'm sure mum would say it was terribly bad luck to have the crib in the house before baby arrived safely).

And I ordered my bugaboo! Exciting!

Lauraloo enjoy your last day on sick leave, I wish you had a bit longer too, it sounds like you could do with it

Hello everybody else!

June2009 · 23/03/2009 14:48

hey louise, we've had the cot (and everything else) in the spare bedroom for a while now, it cheers us up every time we feel down.
Tee We saw some plug covers in a pound shop. Also saw some sold in bags of 20 or so on ebay.

I wish I always had good night's sleep (don't we all), last night was terrible and today I've been pukey, emotional and tired. bleh. Looking forward to my bed tonight!

bunnymother · 23/03/2009 15:51

Loooouise - very sweet of babyfather to send you a happy Expectant Mother's Day message. My DH didn't do anything, which is OK, too.

Congrats on getting the Amby and ordering the Bugaboo. I would have all our baby things right now if I could, but have to move to our new flat first. Another fun hurdle for me to clear!

June - sorry to hear you feeling so bad today, hope you feel better v soon!

Was thinking about the post name, should we preface it w "Due in June" in case anyone can't find us? We are a fast moving bunch (in the cyberworld only, me thinks!)...

Tee2072 · 23/03/2009 16:06

Yes we should bunny good idea!!

OP posts:
LittleSarah · 23/03/2009 16:09

looouise - Lovely to have your amby set up already, lucky lass!

Re the contacts, that would be FAB!! Thanks so much, I need all the help I can get! You can cat me or just email me directly at sarahhunterargyle at hotmail dot com.

Dh and I had lovely time in Ireland although pretty broke and tired now! My lovely friend gave up his bed for us but is only a wee single which was a bit of a squeeze... still managed fine and I even got an essay done while there! Gorgeous weather too, yay!

Nat - I study journalism and really hoping to get into freelance features if possible, what with two kids and all a flexible job would really help. I also noted that my uni is about to start a creative writing postgrad and I would love to do that in a year or two....

ermintrude - My cousin told me you could start having raspberry leaf tea from 28 weeks, is she wrong?? I haven't started yet (I hated it) but was planning on doing so soon...

Re pain relief I had tens which I felt wasn't really that helpful and about 15 minutes of gas and air right at the end. The G&A really helped me with pushing after a few hours without much pain relief...

Thanks for all the kind comments about my tutor's remarks, it was great to hear I admit!

June - Great pic of your wee one!

Sorry I haven't managed to catch up better, off for a bubble bath!

Naat · 23/03/2009 16:34

Ohhh LittleSarah of your bubble bath! Glad you had a lovely time away with DH, and you even managed to write an essay! Yay for you! I think freelancing won't be that hard with 2 DC... the pg course on creative writing sounds good I plan on embarking on a PhD Sept 2010, keeping my fingers crossed

Bunny glad you and DH like Argie food I don't eat meat but I know it's one of our greatest features. I really miss "handmade" ice-cream, though ...

June I agree with tee, you will need those but later on so no need to stress out about that. I imagine organising everything re.work is stressful for you right now, esp. as you want to leave everything "ready". But I'm sure if you organise yourself you'll be able to do it without a problem to hear your night was not that good, hope you feel better soon

dreamy sorry to hear about the dryer. As you said, luckily it's reaaaaally windy today.

Loooouise glad to know your first "call" with your mum went well... We're all sending you support at a distance Oh, and we've had things up and about since weeks! WHenever we got something else, we just set it up and, as June said, it's nice to have a look at them whenever you're feeling blue Don't feel guilty or bad about it, hon.

The weather is crazy here, since 1pm it's been clear blue! It's still windy but amazingly sunny.

Not a bad day today, but as much as I try and be calm about everything, I can't seem to stop thinking about it ALL (in chronological order: dissertation completion, move, birth, parents coming, visa renewal process, dissertation submission). I know it's a matter of taking one thing at a time, but I don't seem to be managing to do that

Hmmm hope I didn't forget anyone... (waves!)

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 23/03/2009 16:57

Hi all,

Feeling VVVVVVV tired today, as I was crawling about in our loft and moving stuff to our new garage loft all weekend....

I had suddenly realised that as of tomorrow I am 30 weeks !!!!!!!!!!!! How did that happen .

Needed to move loads of stuff and sort whilst a) I only have 2 children and a dh to contend with rather than 3... and b) I needed to remember what we've got/ need to get for this LO!

Consquently felt sick this am, and trying to deal with dd2 who is clingy/ wingeing (there's chicken pox going round so I'm just waiting for the spots!!)

Next job to do is to start to sort my hospital bag. Not normally very organised but having to be this time.

Have been reading you posts daily trying to keep up, but after the lifting and shifting was too tired to type

june personally I would wait on the safety stuff and expecially the highchair, weanings not recomended til 6 months. We started with little bits in a bouncer chair, then progressed to food in a high chair.

With DD1 we spent over £100 on a chico polly reclining etc super duper one which is a mare to clean...(whatever you go with, buy with a view to the cleaning, as you WILL find mouldy food in EVERY nook and crany). Been to ikea since and spent the best £13 ever on an antilop and have never looked back.

Hope you all had a lovely mothers day, I had a card from dd (I got that on thurs after preschool!) and a peach upside down cake made proudly be dd1 and dh

well that's all for now planning to put the dd's to bed early send dh to tesco and go to bed with my hypnobirthing cd

x doris

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 23/03/2009 17:47

Hello all!

Braved town today and have been walking like John Wayne ever since. Damn SPD!

With regards to a highchair, we had a Chicco Polly, like Doris and I second that it is a mare to clean. We then bought a Stokke Tripp Trapp and it is AMAZING!! DS adores it still (he's coming up 2 and a half) and it's his chair. The down side is that it's quite pricey and you have to buy one per baby as it takes them to adulthood! We don't need the baby set tho, so it's just a new chair and cushion. We got ours from Back in Action and that was the cheapest online at the time. Avoid Two Left Feet, nothing but nastiness about their service on MN!

Had a friend over this afternoon and both our DC were in the throes of the terrible twos.... I had to start 'Time Out' today with DS as he was so naughty this morning. How is it that I can discipline a class of 30 unruly 16 year old boys with very little effort and fairly results, and yet I find it almost impossible to do the same with my one two year old son???

Feeling shattered tonight, so an easy dinner tonight. Bloody work tomorrow so will be suffering tomorrow night...

Just read through my post and it's really glum! Not that bad really.....

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 23/03/2009 17:48

Also just read through my post and it is full of errors.... I was too exhausted to re-read it before I posted....

MrsMcJnr · 23/03/2009 20:34

Hey girls got a call from the hospital earlier (think I am going to put the number into my phone so that it comes up ?take a deep breath before answering?) it went something like this?

?Mrs (full name including middle name)?..?
?yes??
?(in broken English) it hospital you blood test 25 March at 9am and haematologist appointment 1 April, bye..?
?(me in Spanish) hold on, what is the blood test for and where do I go in the hospital??
?(in Spanish) oh, you speak Spanish (repeats above in Spanish)?
?.. yes but why and where??
?goodbye!?

what the hell??? Clearly they now want to look into my prothrombin problem and I guess I can understand that but you think they could be a little more helpful!?

I?ll calm down and catch up now

Naat · 23/03/2009 20:36

What?????

I know Spanish people are special sometimes, but COME ON!!!

Soooooo rude!!!

MrsMcJnr · 23/03/2009 21:24

Hey Tee

Hello Laura ? I don?t know anything about SPD but that?s great that it let you have a day off. My sciatica is worse some days than others, depends what I have been up to. I wouldn?t worry about thinking you are wasting the physio?s time, you clearly need to see her and don?t worry about work, you have to think about yourself and your baby above anything else. Don?t start the raspberry leaf until 36 weeks at the earliest, I started at 38 weeks last time, I waited until I was on mat leave!

Ermintrude ? I wish my FIL had been embarrassed instead he used to make revolting remarks about me getting off on breastfeeding etc, I felt sick actually, how can he be so wrong about the whole thing? It is the least sexual thing I can think of! LOL about the farts, my family are very much of the opinion that all ?ablutions? should be taken into the bathroom but DH?s family are the opposite! The more the hospital treats me like a fool the more I would prefer to have this baby in the car!!

Hey there Ineedmore sorry to hear you had a tough toddler day there is nothing more exhausting I am finding! Sleep well

Insy ? the book does make you think about things more and I guess that has got to be a good thing. I was very interested in the section on controlling fighting, some interesting tips Maybe DS is drinking too much milk that said, he?s eaten (and drunk) everything I have presented to him today so maybe he has the feast/famine approach to eating! LOL at the U-bend comment, at least the labours are getting shorter, you might get there in 30 mins this time!! Glad to hear you are worrying less. I am getting lots of those belly earthquakes today, don?t know what she?s up to!

Naat ? I totally agree about the tenor of the birth plan, you do want them to be on side and encouraging rather than fed up with you try to get it down to one page though as they are more likely to read that we headed ours up ?Birth Preferences? and wrote in bold at the top ?Whilst we will keep an open mind, we have thought carefully about these preferences and would really appreciate your support to achieve them. Thank you?. I remember one American website I read suggesting that you should place the birth plan in a basket of home made cookies to sweeten up the staff (literally!!) I personally felt that was a step too far! You?ve got a lot n your mind poor thing! thanks for the support on the hospital front

Bunnymother ? got the contract for the new place today, I couldn?t help but revise it the lawyer in me is never far from the surface! did you get the things you wanted to get done done today? I have started trying to clear out any junk for the move.

June ? the book Insy lent me is called ?Three Shoes, One Sock and No Hairbrush: Everything You Need To Know About Having Your Second Child? so not one for you just yet! I?ve got Steve Biddulph?s book on bringing up boys, it?s an interesting read (note to self: must read the bit about toddlers again!) I have to say, I don?t know how you are going to work straight after the birth, there is no way I could have done, it was hard enough to remember when DS was last fed or did a poo, being a new Mum took so much more out of me than I?d imagined and my DH was off work for a month with us and we were no where near a routine until DS was 6 weeks old. Won?t you even have a few weeks without work?? Don?t worry about things like highchairs. My DS was weaned at 6 months and for the first two months after that I fed him in his bumbo, he was about 8-9 months when I started using my Ikea (cheap but good ? same one as Doris) highchair. Similarly, you won?t need the safety stuff until your baby can move around, each child is different of course and it is hard to keep a step ahead of them but I don?t think you need to think about baby proofing until about 5 months. You?ll be given a load of bumf on security so don?t worry hope you sleep better tonight.

Dreamy ? hope all goes well for you on Weds, I?ll be thinking of you what lovely thoughtful kids you have

Hey there Help

Looouise ? that was sweet of the Babyfather All the best with speaking to your Mum, I can imagine you are a bit worried about it. Thanks for your kind words for me. I have an Amby and had it in the house from about 8 months last time! I loved it as did DS but I found it hard to use when he was really tiny as my back hurt trying to get him into it but by 4 weeks we?d all got to grips with it what colours is your bugaboo??

Littlesarah ? glad you had a lovely time in Ireland 28 weeks seems a bit too early for the RLT if you ask me!

Hey Doris you are organised! I hope that your DD doesn?t get chicken pox!!
Glad you like the idea for the new thread do you want me to start it?

ermintrude13 · 23/03/2009 21:41

Ineed It'll be the Naughty Step before you know it . Your own 2 yr old will always be able to wind you up more than any number of other peoples' 16 yr olds, that's what he's programmed for (bless him). Hope you have a good sleep and a better day tomorrow.

Doris Agree on the cleanability of high chairs being paramount. Our previous house was tiny so we got one of those chairs you clamp on to the table, to save floor space. Lovely and padded, and full of seams and joints in which rotten food accumulated and rotted. We're borrowing my sister's wooden easy-clean chair this time.

June Don't worry about getting in stuff for the second stage of babyhood just yet. I fear your hope to find a b/feeding sling which frees you up for typing may not work out - I ended up doing a lot of one-handed typing until baby was old enough to steady her/himself on my lap and not need support. I thought nipple shields were for cracked and painful nipples? If that happens you can always send your DH out on a mercy mission to Mothercare, but I don't know anyone who used them so wouldn't put them as part of the kit list. I'd say to you and helpivegottogivebirth that if you can set aside at least the first month or so to do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ELSE but get used to baby, it will make life easier in the long run. You'll be tired and getting accustomed to a massively new way of life so need to give yourselves some time. Both being in charge and freelancing make this hard, I know, but it is important.

Dreamy how lovely to finish work soon, although with all your other DC you're not exactly going to be resting. More relaxed though, I expect. And Lauraloo boo to having to return to work; hope it goes OK for you and doesn't make your pain worse.

looouise sounds like you've made the first positive step to having things the way you want them, hurrah.

LittleSarah Your break sounds fab, you must be v studious to do an essay on holiday though! Raspberry leaf tea or tablets is usually advised no less than 8 wks prior to due date, building up quantities as you go. There is little hard evidence about it, though small studies have shown that more women who take it, as opposed to a placebo, have shorter second stages. Since mine were 16 mins and 2 mins I'm not sure I want mine much shorter but it's also supposed to be good at helping the uterus contract after birth too.

MrsMcJr I hope you find out what on earth the hospital wants you to come in for - and that you come across someone with a better phone manner!
