bunny I had tens and gas and air, loved my tens so much that didn't go for water birth as I'd have to take it off, you can hire them on line so don't need to worry about falking out for one in case it doesn't suit - now on 3rd baby so wishing I had bought one as would be cheaper! hope nhs classes go ok

choccie sorry to hear bout pain

mrsmcj sorry to hear your having a rusbish day too, try not to get too stressed about ds's eating - I know thats easier said than done, does he still have formula? if so he's getting good spread of vits and minerals, do you have any firm favs that he'll always eat? I tend to do one proper meals and one thats either just sandwiches or something like scrambled eggs that I can just throw at them, not sure if that helps but both of mine been through crappy fussy eating fazes and know its rubbish plus the more tired you get the more difficult it is to be creative. Have you been able to talk to dh about helping more with stuff? imo this is worst bit, being heavily pg and having toddler, big hugs and hope you have a better day tomorrow - well a lovely mothers day!

ps yes it does count being preg and mothers day - we all started our jobs 6 months ago and i reckon other halfs should recognise that!

Tee2072 · 21/03/2009 22:28

Evening all.

Had a fab time at dinner. I had crab claws and lamb leg and chocolate/marshmallow pie and a whole glass of white wine! I felt like a real person!!

MrsmcJ I'm with your DH for you. It must be the day for falling out because my DH and I had a row today as well.

ermintrude I do the same as you. One week I'm full of cooking magic and the next? Pre-made pie and chips!

Now I really must find my bed. YAWN!

MrsMcJnr · 21/03/2009 22:59

Ineedmore ? how were the homemade burgers and chips? Yum crème eggs? double yum

Naat ? hope you enjoyed the sunshine thanks for your lovely message DS was a fabulous eater from 6-10 months, a total joy to wean, he?d eat anything and loads of it but he is now so fussy, it?s very disappointing! He isn?t skinny or anything but I do worry about him! DH does do some of the shopping in his defence but one of the issues we have (which I hope will change in the new place) is so little room to store anything so it?s hard to shop in bulk.

Choccie ? when you hear ladies say that they didn?t mind the taste of raspberry leaf tea you know that they?ve been drinking the nice pink tea bags as opposed to the gag-inducing thick green straw stuff but it does work doesn?t it? I think I drank it from 36 weeks last time. I didn?t have it afterwards last time (forgot ) but I think you are meant to aren?t you? Sorry to hear your pelvis is so sore

Ermintrude ? funnily enough, my grandma is a fabulous grandma when she was by all accounts a lousy mother. I have so much respect for her and have a great relationship with her. This baby is going to have her name as a middle name to honour her. My mother seems to be following in those footsteps too; my DS utterly adores her, his favourite person in the world. This bump is heavy too (and the dull ache in the lower regions has begun here!) but nnoooo I need more time before she comes to move flat, settle into new place, make meals for us all to freeze, re-read notes on labour, to become super organised and calm, to feel in control of all that is going on?.I need more than 10 weeks don?t I? Glad you enjoyed cooing over your friend?s little one I met a friend out today with her 6 week old baby she seemed so tiny!! Thanks for your message, hope you and DH get along better tomorrow (and that the dame happens here!)

Tee ? this is what I said in my birth plan about pain relief ?Please do not offer medication. If help of this type is required, I will request it.? I know that some people worry if they are offered meds that maybe they are not coping as well as they thought they were if that makes sense. Glad you had a lovely dinner tonight sorry to hear that your brother was so unwell when you were kids, that must have been hard on all of you. Appreciate your kind words for me

Bunnymother ? I feel bad now it?s not that I have a bad relationship with my mother really, more that she has never quite understood the ways in which I need her or quite how I tick. She?d be devastated if she read what I wrote as she thinks we have the perfect mother/daughter relationship but that?s because it is better than the one she has with her mother (who she accuses of being cold). My Dad just tries to live vicariously through me and that works fine for him when I am a city lawyer but not when I?m a pregnant stay at home Mum! Sounds like your relationships with your parents are also complicated I do love my parents too, that?s why it all still hurts me so much I guess how did the parental class go?

Laura ? great to hear that your pain has eased off
Insy ? FINALLY my sis has sent on your book I am reading it and it is scaring me to death so far!!! Thanks for lending it to me and thanks for your wise words about DS?s eating. Yes, he still has 3 bottles of formula a day so that?s something. He is a stubborn little monkey though and when he says no to food that means all food and not even favourites like mandarin oranges, grapes or yoghurt get past his lips. He point blank refuses to eat eggs and whilst I have a freezer full of little portions of Annabel Karmel?s nutritious meals he just won?t eat them

Tee2072 · 22/03/2009 08:49

Good morning all and Happy Mother's Day!

I got a little teddy bear and a card! I wasn't expecting anything this year.

OP posts:
bunnymother · 22/03/2009 09:35

Hello and happy mothers day ladies!

The weather yesterday was wonderful here in London, and fingers crossed the weather is terrific for you today, wherever you are.

MrsMcJnr - apologies for saying you have a bad relationship w your mother, didn't mean to make you feel bad! Although does sound like you would appreciate a better (ie more understanding) relationship w her. My mum, on the other hand probably kids herself that we have a good relationship, but we don't. A real shame. Like you, I love my parents and I think thats why these "issues" (mainly w my mum, as dad is much more straight forward, the funny guy) do upset me. V sorry to hear your DH is upsetting you by not being helpful, probably doesn't help that your adorable DS isn't eating well, ignoring these lovely meals you work hard to prepare. Wonder if you are feeling doubly unappreciated? Hope you are feeling better today.

I have to say the NHS class was v good! It was taught by an NCT teacher, and she was not amused to see that NHS has overbooked the class and told us we were doing more than she had time to do, but she taught it well. DH and I both left feeling much more informed and "ready" (if we can be!!). Also helped us think more about the birthplan. Must say those birthing pools sound terrific, and TENS and gas and air may be all that I need, I hope. We hope to write the first draft of our birthplan today...

Insy - thanks for your insight, I think I am now looking to go down the same path. And will be searching amazon in 2 ticks for a TENS machine to buy.

Tee - congrats on a mother's day gift, and hope all is well w your DH now! Your dinner sounds amazing!! We went to Ping Pong (dim sum place] last night and I ate so much dim sum - was soo good! Although forgot to order my Saturday night treat of a glass of wine . Still, there is always next week...

Ermintrude - sorry to hear you had a "moment" w your DH, too. Hope you are back to bliss now. Am also pretty up and down w the cooking inspiration, although hoping to improve as I do love to cook and eat!

Ermintrude and MrsMcJnr - my grandma was also a brilliant, indulgent (albeit a bit overbearing sometimes) grandma who was a holy terror as a MIL (my mum is STILL traumatised!) and only slightly less scary as a mother - VERY strict. Funny how some people are so different as parents than grandparents!

bunnymother · 22/03/2009 09:38

Another quick question, does anyone recommend a particular TENS machine? Seems like there are lots to choose from!

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 22/03/2009 09:42

Happy Mother's Day! I got a beautiful orchid (which I will endeavour not to kill 'with love' like the last one). and a handmade card from DS. Gorgeous! DH has now gone on a run (19 miles today!) and then we're off to my nan's to meet up with mum. What a gorgeous day, weather-wise!

Home-made burgers and chips were fab, as were the Creme Eggs (which unfortunately, due to DH's marathon training, meant that I had to finish off the whole bag !). Our friends came over for lunch yesterday and it was lovely. I baked a cheese flan and DH did home-made pea soup. It was lovely to see them and catch up. Quite a social weekend!

MrsMc - My DS has periods of real fussiness whith food where he'll decide he doesn't want to eat something that was his favourite the day before. It's heartbreaking when you've slaved over the stove only for him to turn his nose up. I spoke to the health-visitor when he had a particularly bad 6 weeks where he ate virtually nothing at about 18 months (and I mean nothing apart from cereal in the morning and then a petit filous for the rest of the day). She said that it is amazing on how little toddlers can survive (she's an ex-matron of a children's ward, knows her stuff and is fab). It's so hard not to get upset by it, but keep persevering. It will pass, I'm sure. How old is your DS?

choccie - hope your back pain passes

Tee - How sweet of DH to get you presents from the bump! Enjoy your day

bunny - hope you and DH enjoyed your NHS class

Another oldest daughter of oldest daughter here too....

Will be off for the thick sludgy raspberry leaf tea when I hit 37 weeks..... DS was born at 37 weeks, so I'm hoping for a repeat performance this time round. My uterus is very low in my pelvis, which means I carry my babies really low. All good signs for an early delivery again...!

30 weeks on Friday, almost ready for the countdown!

Naat · 22/03/2009 10:23

Morning Juners!

Happy mothers' day to all!!!

I got a pack of cds that I wanted and a lovely day out with DH yesterday as today we knew it was not going to be that nice weather-wise (and it isn't, at least here).

On the card front, I knew my DH wouldn't do it, as he neeeeeeever does... so hard to make him write something! (and I quoted the SATC movie scene yesterday! but no...)

Anyway, I tried to catch up so let's hope I don't forget anyone

Tee at your dinner! It sounds absolutely fab! Congrats on your card!

MrsMc ermin and bunny, I guess my grandma is different hahaha, she didn't change from "mother" to "granny" too much, esp. now that we're grown... I don't know if my mum is a different granny (my sis has a DS) because they all live far away... Ineed welcome to the club of the eldest DD of an eldest DD hahahaha

MrsMC hope you're having a better day today with DH (you too, ermin) and that you have a fab mothers' day.

bunny to hear your NCT class went well! Last night we went through the HB birth plan with DH and started choosing things... we have some doubts to ask the "practitioner" next Sunday but overall we have it more or less decided. Then tell us how yours went...

MrsMC sorry to ask but what does raspberry leaf tea do? I heard some of you saying you drank it in prev pregnancies...

Ladies, have a lovely day!!! Enjoy and demand lots of pampering!

lauraloo09 · 22/03/2009 10:52

happy mothers day juners!

I woke up this morning to breakfast in bed (which never happens) and a card which read to a special mum to be from my DH and bump it was a nice surprise as wasn't expecting anything!

Will try and catch up some point today, got to go into town

ermintrude13 · 22/03/2009 11:32

Tee I am slavering at the thought of choc and marshmallow pie - mmm! In fact, your entire menu sounds like just what I'd have chosen - crab claws, you wicked woman, the no shellfish rule is one I've stuck to but in a nice restaurant I'd find it hard to resist. And very sweet to get gifts - top marks to DH.

lauraloo and to your DH! They should drop a line to Naat's OH . Mine insisted he'd deliberately left it to the DC to organise, which is a good excuse (we've made up, btw. He's v tired with work too - got back from London at 2.30am - so we have to be nice to each other). But DD had spent her own money on a card and a big bar of Dairy Milk (she knows me so well) and DS made me a card in school which says 'I love my mummy because.. she normly makes lovely meals. My faivouraite is spagety bolanaise'. Awww. We might go to Pizza Express for tea

Naat raspberry leaf tea is supposed to encourage uterine contractions and so the strong stuff should only be used in the last few weeks of pregnancy, to help the womb 'limber up'. I've had it both pregnancies and the first time used the very nice but not effective teabags and DD was 3 days late, then used the serious stuff for DS but he was 10 days late . I guess I'll give it a go just in case this time, but I know some women who swear it helped things along.

bunnymother I'm confused at how many TENS machines there are nowadays. I'm borrowing my sisters which she got from Ebay and the last two times I rented, first from Boots and then from an online place. Different makes every time, never noticed a difference in using them, hope someone can give you a top tip (maybe you'll find something on the products review threads?).

Ineed v of your just slightly early births. Would love to drop a healthy baby a fortnight early, if only to avoid another 9.5 pounder! Good result on the creme eggs .

Must go and read with DS and hang out the washing - I do like this spring weather. Have lovely days all.

ermintrude13 · 22/03/2009 11:35

Oops meant to say to MrsMc that my DC are quite fond of my mum but now that my dad is quite disabled she focusses entirely on him and doesn't take much notice of them when they come round . She likes babies but loses interest when they turn into people.

And what's the scary book that Insy has sent you???!!

dreamydowler · 22/03/2009 11:57

Hiya ladies and happy mothers day to you all. I was woken up this morning by my three youngest ds age 10 dd age 5 and dd age 2 they had helped dp make scrambled egg on toast and I got some kitchen herb plants a little teddy some smellies in a lovely cosmetic bag and some chocs. My older children ds age 16 dd age 17 dd age 18 with her dd age 1 and my dd age 20 are all coming round later with their pressies and dp is going to do a bbq hope the wind dies down a bit . All in all a nice day. Hope everyone else is having a nice day

chocciedooby · 22/03/2009 13:02

Happy Mothers Day everyone!

Lots of you have had lovely cards and pressies. I also had some hand made cards and the kids brought me my breakfast in bed.

Mrsmc - hope things are better with your dh today. Things are up and down here depending on dhs stress levels. It is so hard when we are at loggerheads and it expends far too much energy that we really need to be saving. I do anyway, in order to lug this belly around .

ermintrude - funny how grandmas love the babies but don't bother so much with the toddlers. My dad is fab with my boys though. Better than he was as a parent.

dreamy wow what a lot of gifts you received. You deserve it!

Thank you all for your well wishes re: my pelvis. It's not as bad today and once I had my pelvic belt on yesterday I did get some relief. I need to remember to put it on 1st thing every day.

Had a fab day yesterday. Kids were invited to a birthday party for a close friends daughter and they decided to do a double party in conjunction with Irelands rugby match against Wales. So the kids spent the day on a bouncy castle and dh and I sat in the sun with all of our best friends. Once the party had ended there was a bbq, kids fed and watered and then all adults watched the match whilst kids still bounced away . I even managed a lovely large glass of red wine! Came home and kids went to bed immediately Bliss....

Hey! Happy Mother's day to everybody ;)

Went for a 4D scan this morning and here she is

I had some chocolate on the way and probably shouldn't have! I have been told a few times this is an active baby and she wouldn't sotp moving so most pictures a blurry!
Brilliant experience nevertheless.

Off to tescos to get my some mothers day stuff :D

lauraloo09 · 22/03/2009 14:33

june your wee girl is gorgeous! Glad you enjoyed your scan what a lovely mothers day treat for you and DH.

Tee2072 · 22/03/2009 15:52

OP posts:
bigcar · 22/03/2009 17:36

Afternoon all, happy mothers day

June, lovely pic and a great treat for mothers day!

My mum always prefered my los when they got a little older, always loved them to bits but found them much more interesting as toddlers!

MrsMcJnr, hope your having a better day today. One of my mils favourite phrases is, it's phase, they all do it, closely followed by, it's their age, they'll grow out of it. Might not be what I want to hear at the time, but she's usually right Wonder if the same applies to dhs?

Ineed, sounds like you have a good hv, keep hold of that one. Most of the ones i've come accross are way too obsessed with those growth charts at the back of the red books and are too quick to tell bf mums to top up with formula and ff mums to cut back [even more ] The one I have at the moment seems to feel threatened because I have some idea of what babies and small children do, I think she's one that likes to lord it over new mums and act like some sort of oracle. Apologies to those with good health visitors!

We're off to Selsey tomorrow until friday, yay, holiday time! So lets hope this lovely weather continues for another week at least. I think there will be a lot to catch up with when I get back Hope everyone has a lovely week

30 weeks tomorrow and counting .......

bunnymother · 22/03/2009 19:07

June - she is just gorgeous, terrific Mother's Day present!

Bigcar - enjoy your holiday!

BTW ladies, do we need to think about starting another thread? We have 944 posts now...

lauraloo09 · 22/03/2009 19:11

bunny yeah think we need to start thinking of a new thread title...suggestions anyone?

Can't believe we're nearly at the end of this thread title...maybe only another 2 threads to go until we start 'popping' me thinks

Naat · 22/03/2009 19:20

Hi ladies!

Windy and cloudy day here but a good one anyway

If anyone of you know Hedgewitch, she just gave birth to her daughter! 9 lbs 3 oz.

Went to the hospital at 1pm. Gave birth at 2:01!!

May we all have 2nd and 3rd Stages that short!!!

OP posts:
MrsMcJnr · 22/03/2009 20:14

Hey ladies happy mother?s day! I got my card at 2pm having suggested to DH that the postie must have got lost still, did get to lie in until 10am with tea and toast in bed

I remember last Mother?s Day clearly, DS was 6 weeks old and I had a complete freak out as DH let the in-laws into the lounge when I was trying to breastfeed and I was very uncomfortable with them being there and started to cry because I felt violated they were sweet and cooked us a meal and bought me a card and a pressie and I felt guilty for getting so upset but I couldn?t help the way I felt.

Ah Tee that was sweet of your DH congrats to Hedgewitch I can beat that though, I arrived at the hospital 20 mins before DS was born!

Bunnymother ? don?t apologise, it was me who made the relationship sound bad, I guess these things are complex Feeling a lot better today thanks. Did you get far with your birth plan? Love Dim Sum you lucky thing I bought a Mama Tens machine and thought it was great

Ineedmore ? what a social weekend indeed how did DH get on with his run? We were at a friend of DS?s 1st birthday party today, met some nice people and he had a ball thanks for your kind words about DS?s eating, it really is frustrating. He is 14 months next week. Wonder if you?ll be first to have your baby on this thread then? I am 30 weeks on Thursday, where is the time going?

Naat ? hello interested to hear what you mean by the HB birth plan? You mean things like keeping the atmosphere calm etc? Raspberry leaf tea helps make uterine contractions more effective and therefore is great during labour and in recovery as it speeds up the process

Laura ? that was sweet of your DS. How are you feeling today?

Ermintrude ? ah, your DCs sound so sweet wish my DS liked my cooking! Also glad to hear that you and DH have made up My Gran loves babies and then goes off them from 5-16yrs! This is the book www.amazon.co.uk/Three-Shoes-One-Sock-Hairbrush/dp/0304354295/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1237752 087&sr=1-1 I?m enjoying it, it is making me think about a lot of things

Dreamy ? sounds like your day started well, hope the BBQ was fun

Choccie ? thanks for the wise words, today has been better hope you are wearing that belt. The party sounded great DS was too busy playing at his party today to eat anything but he at least ate some dinner when he got home.

June ? what a gorgeous daughter you have the photo is lovely and clear too!!

Bigcar ? thanks for the empathy have a lovely holiday

New thread.. what about ?The final quarter: packing our bags and remembering to squuueeeeeeezzeeeee!..?

Tee2072 · 22/03/2009 20:18

LOL I like that mrsmcj!!

OP posts:
lauraloo09 · 22/03/2009 20:28

mrsmcjnr i've been ok today pain is coming and going not sure if the doc was right diagnosing SPD as I thought SPD was constant, however as a newbie i'm not sure,...and I like your suggestion for the new thread been raking my brains and couldnt think of anything

choccie hope your feeling better and that you're wearing your belt, does it help the pain any when you wear it? I am worried about physio thinking i'm wasting her time on tuesday as my pain hasn't been as bad as what it was last week.

tee that was great for hedgewitch like you said here's hoping it is that easy for us

bigcar hope you have a great time away!

naat hope you had a great time with your friends

dreamy sounds like you had a good mothers day, hope the bbq went well. Weather in west of scotland had been great all week but low and behold the day my DH was off work it rained

Glad everyone has had a good mothers day.

Just wondering from how many weeks can you start drinking raspberry leaf tea?

ermintrude13 · 22/03/2009 20:34

Good idea for thread mrsmcjr. My ILs were far more embarrassed at my (v discreet) b/feeding in their presence - DH's family never mention any bodily function and are when my DC own up to farts quite happily . They didn't even have a euphimistic word for them!

I gave birth to DD an hour after arriving at the birth centre - which was partly why I had DS at home and hope to do the same again. Don't fancy pulling over on the ring road . Tee we can but hope to follow in Hedgewitch's speedy footsteps!

June that's such a lovely pic

Naat I went to a place called something like Gaucho's (predictably!) in Chelsea and had the most stupendous wooden plateful of fantastic steak. Wish there was something similar in Nottingham.

bigcar enjoy your break, hope the weather is lovely for you.

I'm knackered, off to bed with a crossword methinks.
