tibsy · 13/03/2009 10:05

morning ermin that sounds really lovely. hope you and dh have a wonderful time
and tee good luck again with the docs.

naat for your restless early hours. good preparation methinks

morning mrsmc for your 2 peeks at your lo. you need to return for another appt on mon, 3hrs?? grrrr. hope you manange to find someone to look after ds.

bunnymother · 13/03/2009 10:42

ermintrude - love the "every drug known to man thrown at me from the first contraction" - so funny!!! Think I will need to write that under "My Birth Plan" and hand the paper to the MW and tell her that's what I have come up with so far. We are going to the NHS ante natal class at UCH next Sat. Apparently this means we will be spending "quality" time w Vicky Pollard, according to NCT advocates. I bet they are right, too! Once we have been there, then I will add to the birth plan (ie more drugs, please). Then we meet up w the doula again on Sunday, so will see if she has any tips (ie even more drugs, please). Thanks for the wise words - you do have excellent suggestions!

And of course, I hope you and your DH have a wonderful day today - sounds like a lovely, long date!

MrsMcJnr - how annoying that you have to go back for another 3 hours! Your DS sounds like a darling, so hopefully there are lots of people who will be happy to look after him for you. I agree re you don't actually want anyone else to look after your DCs! I know I shouldn't get hung up, but am very at you only putting on 5kgs! I have put on 10kgs and not feeling great about that! Time to do some yoga and more walking!

tibsy - love your belly button nose!

Naat - we can cross our fingers together that our navels stay put! I am not too hopeful!

Tee - sorry to hear you are having a rough day! Hope it gets better.

hello all you other lovely ladies! The weekend is just around the corner!

In the spirit of keeping our eye on the main prize, when I was at UCH on Monday, I saw all the new mummies w their tiny little bundles in their new car seats, waiting downstairs to go home. That will be us soon!!

MrsMcJnr · 13/03/2009 11:12

Poor you Tee hope you feel much better soon.

If anyone would like to see the Birth ?wishes! List I did for DS I?d be happy to share, just CAT me. Word of warning when it comes to Birth Plans, don?t scour the net for help like I did, I totally freaked myself out when I read things on sites like ? let them know if you don?t want an enema/shaved with cold water and soap/100000 student looking on/legs in stirrups all things that I hoped wouldn?t happen in the UK anyway and of course don?t routinely but here? well, that is a different story? still stressed about the idea of wearing a hospital backless gown for my whole stay in hospital .. how the hell do you breast feed in one of those??

Bunnymother ? thanks for your kind words, it?s actually hard to get a babysitter for DS because he is always with me. My Mum works until 2pm and the only other people I know here are friends really and most of them are like me with a first toddler and I am not sure any of us are brave enough to look after someone else?s at the same time yet! That said, DH and I are going out tomorrow night with friends and we are trying a baby sitter for the first time, bit nervous. That said, hopefully DS will be none the wiser as we are going out after he goes to bed.

Happy Friday everyone

Tee2072 · 13/03/2009 11:36

Thanks for the kind words all.

Saw the doc, checking me out for a bladder infection and sent referral to psych, in a better safe than sorry over PND move.

Also got my grant paperwork. GP said that they had just gotten them in! Was amazed I couldn't get it at Antenatal clinic.

ooh, red nose smileys.

chocciedooby · 13/03/2009 12:24

Hi everyone
I'm another one that just can't keep up with this thread. It is flying along!
Sorry for sounding a bit dim here but what is a GTT?
Can't believe mrsmc that you have to gfo back in on Monday for 3 hours.Hope you get DS minded for you. It is always hard when you are away from family and in situations like that but things will work out. I remember having to bring DS1 with me for all of my ante natal visits for DS2.Sometimes I was kept waiting for 2 hours but we somehow managed to pass the time unscathed

Insy - I also have an anterior placenta (never had this before) and am only feeling kicks below the belly button. Baby is getting quite active now though.
Belly button is still in but not for long I expect.

Tee so sorry to hear you are not well. You are having a rough time of it lately. (((hugs)))

Birth plans - well I never really had 1 before tbh. Just really to keep an open mind and see how I get on. Both previous births were natural but with epidural.1st - epidural only worked on 1 side and I thought this would freak me out but was fine.2nd - got much further along in established labour without pain relief and then dh urged me to get epidural ordered. I was VERY grateful he did. I do think that all the fears and worries that we have about labour are escalated before the birth as it is the unknown iykwim. Once you are in labour and dealing with it I think it is amazing what we can cope with and remember we are all different. My worst fear was having an episiotomy. What did I need with DS1? An episiotomy! Didn't bother me 1 bit although had pain relief by then (but had worn off as far as contractions were concerned).

Hope I haven't worried anyone - just trying to let you 1st timers know that labour (even though can be painful) is an amazing experience and the bundle of joy that you get at the end of it all is so so worth it. You will not even be thinking about the placenta at that stage.

I had my OB visit this morning. All went really well. Urine test fine.Blood pressure fine.Scanned baby and it was kicking away.Weighs about 1kg I am sure the DR said "she is very happy in there"!!!! Now he has kick started my curiosity over the gender again!

Dr didn't seem to concerned over my pains etc. I am wearing my pelvic band and it is helping. He didn't think I have prolapse, just that with each baby all the muscles can ache more and my uterus is lower this time around, shooting pains I have been having are normal, swelling in lower bits and pieces is again normal at this stage. So I feel much more relaxed now.

Can you tell I am getting soooooooooooo excited about having this baby?!!!

Tee2072 · 13/03/2009 12:35

Re Birth plans:

I am going to keep mine very general. I honestly don't care how my baby is born, CS naturally, through magick , just so long as its born healthy!

Mine will mostly say that I want skin to skin right away (which they do at my hospital anyway) and that I'd rather any blood tests (which they will do with mine due to my diabetes) be performed with me there, so I can breast feed. No taking the baby away for 2 hours!! I don't see any reason why they can't just use my blood meter, which I will, of course, have with me, to test the baby's sugars!

Other than that, I really don't care. If I'm in pain, I'll want pain relief, but if I'm not (yeah, right!) then I won't!

bigcar · 13/03/2009 13:48

Afternoon all

Just a quickie post today. Dd3 didn't sleep well last night, spd seems worse today and we've had a pretty hectic morning so i'm going to overdose on tea, and possibly a little chocolate before picking ds, dd2 and her friends up from school. It's the school disco this afternoon so a few of the girls are coming back to get changed after school, that'll be fun

Hope everyone has a good friday and weekend

SweetBROODY · 13/03/2009 14:17

Afternoon my lovelies! I am exhasuted today had a tough day yesterday at the hospital? ALL DAY! First I had a blood test then physio then Diabetes check and then pharmacy! its not easy all this pregnancy lark is it!

ermintrude13 thank you ? about your sisters that was really helpful I suppose you just have to do what you think is best because no one in your mind is going to be as good as you!

littlesarah it?s a tough one. I think parents are out of the question for us... age and illness?

Happy birthdaylauraloo Tee I?m with you on this one!! Heartburns been bad for me since 24 weeks? especially at night. Mum reckons it?s because it?s going to be a hairy baby!

insywinsyspider Glad the banter was useful? I guess it gives you a wakeup call when you?re having something so precious!

Tibsy thank you so much ? I think you never feel you got it right because like I said above, no one can fill our shoes as the actual parents!

bigcar I guess I see the advantages.. but having only been married a couple of years I just feel with a little one on the way we?ll just have NO time together ever again! I know that?s silly but I worry about if he?ll love me the same after and if he doesn?t have time for me now? will he have time for me later! I know it?s silly ? he is always telling me he loves me loads and not to think like that!

June feel free to rant! It?s good for you... Hope it?s all sorted now!

Hi appletiser ? my favorite pregnancy drink! Welcome to the gang!

insywinsyspider placenta would explain why you aren?t feeling much. TBH I?ve eaten nuts because I personally think it builds resistance to allergies? Maybe naïve but haven?t touch wood had any problems!

Birth Plans - I'm, with Tee on this one - I want to feed straight away and have the baby nearby. Besides that I dont think I want a CS or Induction although they told me yesterday its standard practice at my hospital to induce at 38 weeks with diabetics Not so keen on that...

My antenatal classes arent for a while yet but I'll be on mat leave in 7 weeks! YIPPPEEE!

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 13/03/2009 14:42

Hello everyone. Blimey, this thread moves so much... I?ll do my best to do a big catch up! I had my MW appointment yesterday and had to see a really ?airy-fairy? one who was, at best, vague! Picked up MATB1 and my grant form and posted them this morning. 28 weeks today. My fundal length is 29 cms, so within the realms of normal for my dates.

Also saw physio for SPD this morning. She really is lovely and now I?m dressed boob to bum in tubigrip. How attractive ! I do feel that it?s more support tho? so it?s doing something!

Heartburn is horrendous, I?m really suffering!

Off round the garden centre this afternoon to ?mooch? while DS runs round to wear himself out! I?ve got the evening in by myself tonight, as DH is having a much-needed night off with his two best friends. He has such a stressful job and rarely goes out (other than marathon training) so I?m pleased he?s going. I can also blub at Comic Relief on my own without worrying about looking an idiot! Bought a lovely chilli chicken pizza as a treat , though I will have to chug the Gaviscon afterwards!

Happy birthday Lauraloo . Hope the 4D scan went okay! They?re fab ? we loved ours x

June - hope your midwife appointment went okay

tibsy - at your MIL?s insensitive comment about the size of your bump! Hope you are feeling a bit less tired.

Choccie - Happy birthday for Saturday

apple - I get pain in my ribs too. Horrible, isn?t it?

June - I had the injection to release my placenta, and I ended up back in hospital a week later with a womb infection from ?retained products? (yucky phrase). I think it?s one of the downsides that can happen. That said, I would have it again if the second stage is prolonged and I?m bloody knackered! Hopefully I can let it happen naturally this time.

Highrise - I get kicks all over, round my bikini line, all the way up to under ribs. The worst ones are in your fanjo !

insy - at your bookmark! As far as I?m aware, if you have a family history of allergies / hayfever etc then they advise you avoid nuts. If not, then I think they?re okay as long as you don?t go mad. I think they like you to limit your caffeine intake, tho the odd cup won?t do you any harm. As an insomniac, I try to avoid caffeine after lunchtime, but LOVE coffee so do have the odd cup of ?caff? as opposed to ?decaff?!

Doris - at your MW not knowing about the grant!

Daisy - glad you and DH have sorted things a bit. It?s mad looking at the tiny clothes, isn?t it! I can?t believe that DS was ever that tiny!

bunny - my belly button is definitely on the move! It?s now really flat. I don?t remember it popping out last time, it just stretched right out. My birth plan was quite detailed, but I had chronic SPD so there were loads of things regarding positions and epidrals etc. I think I?m going to be free adn easy this time round, tho? I DON?T want pethidine (sp?) as I had a yucky reaction to it last time and DS slept for 48 hours after birth.

ermintrude - How lovely to have a day out with DH. I hope you enjoyed the cinema. What did you go and see?

Tee - sorry you?re feeling rough. You?re really having a time of it now, aren?t you? Glad the GP took your depression seriously. I know a lot that don?t

MrsMcJnr - Sorry to hear that you have to go back in. It?s so hard to sort out childcare sometimes, isn?t it? I had the physio today and luckily MIL was happy to have DS (she?s great, I am really lucky). I?ve got more physio next week and I have to try and sort cover for that. Things are so much harder with a two year old around! My DS was 7lb 8oz too! . I?m sure that you don?t have to wear a hospital gown if you don?t want to. If so, don?t bloody let them! Really don?t know how you?d BF without revealing all the bits you don?t want to!

bigcar - sounds like your Friday?s been a little hectic! Hope it calms down soon. I order you to open that chocolate!

Sweetbroody - Sorry to hear about your whole day at the hospital . I also have heartburn, enough to make me have coughing fits! Yey for Mat leave in 7 weeks!

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 13/03/2009 14:43

OH MY GOD! That was rather an epic post!

SweetBROODY · 13/03/2009 15:12

Ineed its ok.. lol I thought you were saying mine was an epic so came back to check!

I think we are all just trying to stay in touch and its nice that you've remmbered us all! I'm counting days tbh 21.5 days of work!!!

And baby will prob be here the week of 15th/22nd... scary stuff!time is flying

ermintrude13 · 13/03/2009 16:08

Gosh, I go out for the day and find several novels have been written in my absence. Will try to catch up. We saw 'Slumdog Millionaire' which was fab, and then had a pub lunch - I had a huge grilled sausage and onion marmalade sandwich and managed to squeeze in half a bucket of dripping-fried chips with gravy to dip. Mmmmm. Won't need to eat tonight, which is good for avoiding puking! So lovely to be on my own with DH and out in the world!

Naat very kind of you to say you find wisdom in my blatherings. It's probably because of my great age - I'm practically Yoda-like these days

MrsMcJr Yikes, blue hospital gowns don't sound adequate clothing to me . Hope your GTT comes out fine

btw, somebody asked about GTT - sorry if it's been answered and I've missed it, but it's Glucose Tolerance Test to check for GD (Gestational Diabetes) which can lead to large babies so requires extra care and possible early induction/CS.

Bunnymother would love to see your doula's face when you ask her to administer every drug known to man . The doulas I know would probably suggest a nice back rub or an African lullaby to help with the pain.

On the subject of pain - and saying this has got me into trouble before but I think it is important - not all pain is the same. Women who say their natural births weren't absolute hell on earth aren't masochists. Labour pain is not the chronic agony of, say, cancer-related pain, or like having the soles of your feet electrocuted. If all goes smoothly it's like this: If you've had period pain you'll recognise it in contractions, they build to a crescendo over several hours, they stop for a bit and then you want to push. The pushing is effort rather than pain, and feels like trying to poo, and the crowning is a sort of stinging.
The notion of 'pain with a purpose' makes sense when you're in the middle of it, I felt very clearly that my body was taking me through a process and knew what it was doing, and fewer drugs make interventions like ventouse or forceps less likely (because you can feel and push). Whichever way you give birth you're sore afterwards - even with a CS you have a wound.

OF COURSE that's when things go smoothly. Delays, medical complications, big babies, long first or second stages, your personal response to pain and sheer exhaustion can mean that you really need pain relief. But if you're the kind of person that would rather sit out a headache than take paracetamol, you might feel the same way about labour.

Sorry, I've now written another novel

June2009 · 13/03/2009 16:23

Tee Can you take anything (pills?) for depression while pregnant or do you have to "get by" with therapy? My best friend had depression a few years back and I remember just not knowing what to say or do (I still don't.)
I'm worried about AND. The NCT host said she would cover it next time so I guess it'll explain a few things and how to spot early signs.

The NCT classes are really good and I'm glad we signed up for them in the end.

Feel free to ignore the following, yet another rant about my ils...which I'm not deleting this time!

I was fuming this morning.
Sil, bil, dh and I all registered to get the presale code for the MJ concert and all agreed we would get up at 6am to use them to get the tickets online when they released extra dates.
Well guess what, I was the only one who actually bothered to get up and now they're both hassling us to give them the 2 "spare" tickets. (I got 4).
Well, they're not exactly "spare", I wanted to give one to my bro as a present for passing his exams and dh had already offered the other one to someone else.
All they had to do was get up early and they didn't even bother???
Bil called dh this am and ended up swearing and putting the phone down on him when he was told that he was an idiot for not getting up and we weren't sure whether he would get our "spare" ticket cause it's not really spare.
Followed by sil who was begging us not to give away the tickets to anyone else but them. (she offered to pay for hers).

I haven't told my bro yet that I want to give it to him as it was going to be a surprise so we could just give bil and sil the 2 other tickets and avoid WW3.
I'm fed up though and I really don't think pregnancy hormones have got anything to do with it, they're pushing it too far.

Bil's excuse is that he didn't have the money for them even if he had got up, well he could have said that when dh told him to get up at 6am, he could have sent us his sales code and I would have lent him the money. (besides he always seems to find money to go clubbing & getting drunk twice a week).
Sil has now also said she didn't have the money either.
So what was the point in registering to get the presale code in the first place???
And I can't help but be at sil really, it's not even mid-month, she got her £1200 wages less than 2 weeks ago, where does it all go exactly?? She doesn't have to pay for rent or food. Fair enough probably none of my business but now they're making me feel guilty for wanting to give a ticket (which I got up for and and paid for) to my little bro who has no money yet never complains and was so happy he'd passed his exam he was crying.

Sorry for the rant, I just had to let some steam off...Feeling much better now.
As I said, unless we need the money before then and end up selling the tickets on ebay for gazillions of pounds (!!) they will probably end up having them.

In other news we got our car today :D :D
Dh drove it to the office and we're going for a drive later on tonight.
Honestly the one thing I can't wait to do is put the baby car seat in and stick the pram in the boot .
I also finally got my free "new born kit" huggies nappies from asda with the voucher from the bounty pack, it was the last pack in the shelves and I'd truly given up so I'm all again! (also picked up a cute little pink outift, they've got great prices at "George"!)

Have a nice weekend everyone, if we don't give up our tickets I'm anticipating that bil and sil won't be coming round, bit of chance for peace and quiet then

Tee2072 · 13/03/2009 16:30

june there really isn't an easy yes/no answer to your question. There have been no formal studies on the effects of antidepressants on unborn babies, since they can't exactly get people pregnant and feed them the meds! What they do have are some small studies of women who became pregnant while on the meds, whether deliberately or by accident. The one med that worked for me, Xanax, has had one of these studies and the results were bad! Lots of miscarriages and deformities, so not worth the risk!

I do take one med, called Trazodone, for anxiety and not sleeping. I am on a very low dose, but the studies for that have shown it is also very low risk. My goal is to be off of it as soon as I go on Leave, as then I can catch up on missed sleep during the day! I do sleep without it, but only about 2 - 3 hours at a time, which is not enough to go to work on!

Okay, sorry for the novel! Obviously its something I've done a lot of research on!

As to what to say to your friend? Nothing in particular. Just be there. Nothing you say will make her feel better, unfortunately. But chocolate can't hurt!!

OP posts:
MrsMcJnr · 13/03/2009 16:35

Thanks good Tee wish I could get that grant

Choccie ? GTT is a Glucose Tolerance Test to check if you have gestational diabetes. Thanks for your reassuring words, I am sure the odd wait at a drs won?t scar my toddler but I know the 3 hours will be more like 5 on Monday All you say about labour is so true you are SO desperate to meet your baby by then aren?t you? I am a total control freak and did a Birth Plan because I wanted to have read up on things and have made decisions on things beforehand. That said, I called it a wish list because we all know that things might not go the way you planned and I don?t necessarily mean that in a bad way. With DS I was convinced throughout my pregnancy that I wanted a water birth but on the day, it was actually the last thing I wanted, gravity was my friend Glad all was well at the OB and that you are passing the afternoon happy in the knowledge that all is fine. My baby apparently weighs about 1.5kgs at the mo which I think is around 3lb4?

Bigcar ? school disco hey takes me back! Hope you get some time to relax.

Sweetbroody ? poor you, I can empathise on the medical overload, my day was like that yesterday too. Hope all is fine with you. I?ve heard that about heartburn and hairy babies my DS was a hairy baby, I had no heartburn though. You?ve worried me about the induction and diabetes talk ? I had better not have GD there is no way I want to be induced

Ladies, what are the indicators for GD? I am getting myself het up about this now when I know perfectly well that it is just the Spanish pedantic system, my private Dr has no suspicions that I have GD so I doubt that I do.

Ineed ? glad the MW appointment went well even if it was vague and hope the tubigrip does help. Sorry about the heartburn quite embarrassed that I am making such a mountain out of things like hospital gowns but I am just feeling a bit hormonal I guess and wish I?d never started down the NHS route of treatment here

Hey Ermintrude ? glad you had a lovely time LOL at your Doula comment I am in total agreement with all you have said about pain, that is certainly how it was for me.

Trying to get DS to have a rest so I can too but he has done 4 poos today and the last one was just as I put him down for his nap, he was nice and sleepy then but now?.

MrsMcJnr · 13/03/2009 16:38

June - don't you DARE give them those tickets ungrateful bunch

Naat · 13/03/2009 16:38

Oh June

for you!!! How dare they! Shame on them, honey!

I'm so angry for you

Why do they have to get them now when YOU guys were the ones who GOT UP AT 6, WENT THERE AND PAID FOR THEM!!

Why?

I'm sorry, but it's not fair... especially as you want to give your little brother one of them as a present (that he absolutely deserves!)...

Is there a reason why you HAVE to give them the tickets? Is it because they'll throw a fit? They have no reason to "resent" you for this... it's not like you did something wrong... you did nothing wrong!!

Grrrr... maybe it's my pregnancy hormones but reading your post made me so angry! hahaha At them, obviously

Congrats on the car! Yey!! Enjoy it!!!

I'll post later catching up, I just couldn't fail to post after reading this, hon...

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 13/03/2009 16:41

June - your ILs sound like such a PITA! Don't give your tickets to them, what a bunch of ungrateful people. I would definitely give it to your brother - he sounds lovely. Are these the same ILs who come round and eat your food every other night too, or was that someone else? Good luck with navigating yourself through the IL minefield, but hold your ground! (Sorry for mixing metaphors!)

Tee2072 · 13/03/2009 16:44

mrsmcJ the signs are: extreme thirst, baby bigger than dates and a third one I cannot think of. You really need to have all three to be even tested in the US. I think they test as a matter of course in the UK. Don't know about Spain.

OP posts:
SweetBROODY · 13/03/2009 17:16

ermintrude13 I like your view on the whole pain thing? That?s kind of how I see it ? but then I haven?t had any kids yet! Slumdogs was very, very good I really enjoyed it?

June I wouldn?t give the tickets? even to avoid WW3 people need to take responsibility for themselves!

MrsMcJnr I hope it goes well for you ? try not to worry, there really isnt anything you can do to change it so the best thing you can do is not to stress?.

Tee I think the symptoms are very similar to pregnancy i.e. frequent peeing and tiredness?.

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 13/03/2009 17:31

Tee I think fatigue is the third.

My results from the GTT were phoned through by the practice nurse and all is well!!

June -definitely don't give them the tickets they are taking the p*ss. Your brother sounds much more deserving. Sounds like things will have to change in the future anyway as you put your dc not them first ( bound to put noses out of joint ) But sooner rather than later is good for ground rules!!!

Have read more and thought...oh must say... but my my brain just does not compute today!!
