Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
tibsy · 12/03/2009 18:25

june i havent sorry, re the placenta, hopefully someone will be along soon who can reassure you. yay for only one set of bloods tho. hope you enjoy your antenatal class

ermintrude13 · 12/03/2009 18:36

june both my placentas came out easily on their own, but I would imagine the MW just means they'll want to get yours out quickly so that the fibroid doesn't cause bleeding, in which case it's a quick injection of syntometrin which will make your uterus contract faster and plop out the placenta quickly! Loads of women have had it done to no ill effect, and often it prevents serious bleeding - it's just one of those things that is sometimes done for the sake of it rather than when necessary, which is why women who want a natural birth, and don't have any extenuating circs like fibroids, tend to want to deliver the placenta themselves. You'll be too busy cooing at your LO to even notice them doing it.

btw, I got a little tear with DD, which opened again with DS. Didn't feel it happenin, didn't need stitches, healed up so I don't even know where it was. I was sore afterwards but it was 'general', I didn't get specific trouble from the tear. So little ones aren't the end of the world.

Have a good snooze tonight!

Naat · 12/03/2009 18:46

Tibsy oh, so sad to hear you're not feeling rested at all despite early nights. Yes, asking the MW about it is a good idea. Maybe she'll give you some tips re vitamins, etc. Have a nice rest now
Oh, at your dd trying to take the doppler machine with her! bless her!

Appletiser, sorry to hear about your ribflare... Hope it doesn't bother you too much...

Choccie, that lunch sounds wonderful!! Yay!
Good luck at the appt tomorrow Glad you had a good physio appointment! Hope your eyes get well soon...

Bunny, yes, I know what you mean... I can only imagine the nice "giggles" we'll have with DH trying to decide Oh, if you find a fairy, let us know!

June glad everything went well at the MW and that they didn't need to get blood this time. at your wee-less appointment! You'd think you'd be able to wee without a problem haha

MrsMc hope your day ended well and you're not too knackered

Today DH comes late from uni so I'm going to try and finish my book

Waves to all the ladies!

highrise · 12/03/2009 19:51

Hello,

Can I ask a daft question please?

First baby, 24+3 weeks, baby very active most kicks are located below or around belly button with the very ocassional kick slightly above belly button. Is this about right? Kicks seem like they're staying low for quite a long time, when should I normally expect kicks to start moving up?

Thanks

Tee2072 · 12/03/2009 20:00

Hi highrise. I get kicks every where from waaay below my bellybutton (if you get my drift!) all the way up to above it.

It really depends on where the baby is lying!

I'm 25 + 3.

insywinsyspider · 12/03/2009 20:09

hello everyone - is it really bad just to post so I can bookmark my position so I don't get lost in the conversation

Naat · 12/03/2009 20:14

Insy! LOL!!

It's ok, it's allowed Shhhh...

Highrise, ditto Tee, I feel them all over depending on the day and the position the baby is, I guess. It's my first, but I wouldn't worry if I were you, as you're feeling kicks anyway, that's the good news

I'm sure some of the other more experienced mums will be able to tell you more soon, though

highrise · 12/03/2009 20:48

Thanks.

I am feeling kicks all across my midrif, just that there aren't too many above the belly button line.

appletiser · 12/03/2009 20:49

Wow this thread certainly does move fast.
tibsy - how long have you been feeling tired for.. i am starting to get like that this week.. sleeping lots but just lacking energy during the day - i dont know if its because i over worked myself over the past few weeks and its ust starting to catch up wth me or if its the pregnancy
Naat - which book are you reading

appletiser · 12/03/2009 20:51

hi highrise - all my kicks seem to be below or next to he belly button - asked the midwife today she said baby is lying transverse

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 12/03/2009 20:51

Hi ladies,

And hello to highrise and appletiser June i sgree with ermintrude it sounds like she's just talking about the little injection ( believe me by that point you don't even notice) which ladies wanting a completely natural delivery avoid. I had it with both dd's ( although did have a few complications after with dd1 ) and I'll probably have it again this time.

incy PMSL at your book mark!! (I need one too)

Daisy haven't heard from you for a while hope you're ok and the situation has resolved, thinking worrying about you.

Well had my GTT which was ok, felt a bit odd initally although that may have been bcause the practice nurse suddenly annouced that NOOOO pregnant ladies had to stay at the surgery, (rather than go home) however I just said I had no other option so left (then called my mum to come and sit with me (just in case ) I was absoluetly fine and saw the mw for my 28 week check and bloods at the 2nd appt and all was well.

Only problem was she still had no idea about the health in pregnacy grant (and wasn't particiluarly bothered by it either ) So I've been trawling the tinterweb and found an number for those of you with in a similar situation it's the helpline no 0845 366 7885. i'm going to try it tommorrow so i'll let you know how it goes (hopefully they'll just post me a form out!)

Well that's it for tonight am going for another early night, and have started back on the multivits, as am sooooo knackered.

night all

highrise · 12/03/2009 21:03

appletiser thanks, had a check up a few days ago and baby was traverse then, maybe it's just baby's preferred position...

insywinsyspider · 12/03/2009 21:20

june think mw is just talking bout injection, I opted for it first time after 2.5 hours pushing ds1 out I figured I'd done my bit, second time wanted to do it naturally but home birth and ds2 came out struggling to breathe (he was fine btw, I think they were over cautious which is good) so mw wanted to cut cord and get placenta out pdq incase of transfer I guess, was fine with it either way, too busy worrying then just gazing at ds! think some people have strong feelings one way or other but after 2nd stage, I didn't really notice 3rd stage!

doris glad gtt when alright, rubbish that mw didn't know about grant hope you get form soon - you need mw to sign it too

some questions from me (you really won't think I'd had 2 babies in past couple of years, I've forgotten everything!) how much coffee is too much? can I eat nuts? I was told not to with ds1 but ok for ds2, now craving peanuts.... but not sure if I should only have some rather than shoveling them in like I am I also have placenta across front of my belly (not had that before) is that why I can't feel much movements?

sure I had more silly questions...

on books, am reading Twilight (one the film was based on) its really good, completely fallen in love with name Edward (main character and vampire) and dh likes it too, hurray! we might have a winner, now need to find girls name as going off our choices

will be back to regularly bookmark my spot!

Tee2072 · 12/03/2009 21:23

insy you can have 1 - 2 cups of full caf coffee, or all the decaf you want! As for nuts, they are now saying that if there is no history of allergy or eczema, nuts are fine. And yes, that's why you don't feel as many baby movements!

lauraloo09 · 12/03/2009 21:45

hiya all goodness me it has been busy today...hello to the newbies glad to have you on board

quick post to say thank you for all the birthday wishes. Birthday was quiet, was babysitting my 2 yr old niece and it was a sin she is fully loaded with the cold and a throat infection

My DH was woking all day, just finished so going to bed and try an sleep, all excited about the 4d scan tomorrow...will hopefully post the photos if I can work the scanner i have

daisy5 · 12/03/2009 21:47

Hi all

I'm sorry I haven't been back online. I've been a bit weary after it all. I'll never get an apology but I've have made him really really suffer and he is acting quite contrite. I will battle on with this, as don't want it to continue after ds is born.

I hope you are all well (-ish). I think the baby's head has slipped into my pelvis area, as it suddenly feels very snug down there.

I know many of you have in-law hassles. I don't have any, so that makes it peaceful, but sometimes it would be nice for family to be ringing up, concerned for how I am. My aunt is coming to stay for three days next month and my brother too, so I am really looking forward to that.

I must make a will too. I did secretly email one of my godparents saying that if something were to happen to us, my preference as guardian was her, and I stated all the reasons why and asked her to show it to the family should the situation arise. I'm sure it's not legal but I thought, it was a good 'back-up' until I got the will done. Two children will be a little different though so will have to think about it again.

28 weeks today. I have so much to do before Easter, when I will be 32 weeks that it makes me feel excited.

Just watching Red Riding and ironing all the baby clothes. They are so tiny .

Happy thoughts to you all.
Daisy

daisy5 · 12/03/2009 21:48

By the way, thanks for all your messages of support. It was really nice and helped me feel strong.

bunnymother · 13/03/2009 07:30

insy - I hear you, I give up trying to keep up, too! Esp as I keep on attributing comments/issues to the wrong people! I think it was Ineed w the rude swimming instructor, so I sent my response to June. God help me! How am I going to manage when I have a baby if I am scatty now??

Doris - I have been on multi vits the whole time (first time panicker parent), and am hope they work for you! Mine (Pregnacare) have the fish oil tablet which is supposed to help with your baby brain. Am as vague as can be so a bit about whether its really working for me!

Daisy - glad that you haven't let bad DH behaviour slide, and good luck with the ongoing struggle!!

Highrise - hello! I am almost 28 weeks, but my baby kicks EVERYWHERE and hard sometimes. From well below the belly button, just like Tee's little one , to about an inch or so below my ribs. But she seems to really like focusing the assault around the belly button area, too.

Hello [waves] to all the other lovely ladies! I have my 28 week appointment on Monday, so better try and read through this post again to see if there is anything I ask the MW in particular. Apparently they take blood tests and I was also advised to discuss my birth plan. Err, not even really thought about it, so can it be called a "plan" at this stage??

Another question - anyone see signs that they are not going to have an "inny" belly button for much longer? I think mine is on the move out!

tibsy · 13/03/2009 08:40

morning all

thanks naat feeling slightly better this a.m as had a more restful sleep. am still going to ask MW re. vits tho.

highrise hello and i've been experiencing lots of kicks below bellybutton and into groin, am 27wks. MW said he's head up atm but still plenty of time for him to turn into the heads down position. dont worry do you know if youre having a blue or pink one??

apple probably a combination of both!! poor you too. i'm not my best on little sleep/ feeling knackered either hopefully we'll both get the pregnancy 'bloom' soon

doris glad your appt went ok

insy you sound just like me!! ive forgotten the lot!! am 'allowing' myself a cup of coffee in the a.m to get me going and another or a diet coke in the afternoon to keep me going iyswim??!!! its my understanding that a front lying placenta will affect the feeling of the kicks.
ive read twilight, was very tempted to pick up the next one in the supermarket the other day

good to hear from you daisy chin up!!! and ahhhhhh on your baby clothes

bunny mines been out for a while now!!! is visible and comical in my tee shirts. like a little nose

ermintrude13 · 13/03/2009 08:54

Good morning all!

Lauraloo hope you'll be able to celebrate birthday in more style today - isn't it DH's as well? The scan will be great!

insy I have anterior placenta but find its main effect is to make it more difficult for other people to feel the kicks I can feel very clearly. But it's making big movements now that move my whole belly, and we can make out bumps that could be head, elbows, bum, whatever, so the front placenta won't make much difference in these last months I reckon.

daisy5 glad DH seems to be coming round. A big part of being a parent is learning to control your temper and stop acting childishly yourself: I used to be really short-tempered and it took me a good while to realise how silly I sounded, esp when I was making life hellish for DH just because I was hacked off at something which wasn't really his fault. Your DH's attitude - 'something bad has happened to our car and I must blame someone' - sounds a bit like that. Having got to grips with thinking before I shout, I'm much more happy and relaxed as a mum and a wife these days - mostly!

Re: wills, I think there could potentially be trouble if you've informally 'nominated' a friend and someone from your families were to contest it. If you are married, I think it would have to be an arrangement that was made by both parents, and witnessed etc, so probably best to put it on a legal footing to be sure.

Bunny hope appt on Mon goes well and that you have a huuuuuge list for the midwife . Don't worry about not having a birth plan yet - are you doing antenatal classes? If so you may as well do at least a few of those and get answers to any questions you have before you even think about formulating a plan. At this stage you could communicate very basic ideas to give the MW an idea of your thinking - eg. no intervention unless vital, or every drug known to man thrown at me from the first contraction. Or just tell her you're still pondering.

DH has taken the day off, so we're going to the cinema and having lunch out, first time in ages, am quite excited!

Tee2072 · 13/03/2009 08:55

Morning Mummies!!

Well, along with feeling really depressed, now I've thrown up my breakfast! Yeah, tee feels like crap!

I think we all can be forgiven for not being able to keep up! We're such a chatty bunch!

Off to the Doctor soon. Not that they'll be able to give me anything, but at least maybe get signed off work for a bit and get my grant form! Oh and more insulin!

Naat · 13/03/2009 09:02

Morning ladies!! 27 weeks today!

Awful night last night for me ... I was up from 3.30 till 5ish, grrrrr... But well, it comes with the territory, huh? hahah

Tibsy, glad you're feeling better

Daisy, great to hear from you. Stick to your guns . They have to learn that when they screw up, the least they can do is say "sorry". (I remember now an article by The Times a couple of weeks ago about the inability men have to say sorry). And, yes, "ahhhhh" at you ironing your baby's clothes

Bunny, so funny you mentioned the navel! I just told DH this morning that it's the first time I can "see" mine... I realised yesterday it's "there" hahaha. Mine has always been reaaaaaaaally inside and quite "closed", IYKWIM. I hope it doesn't pop, though, as I have a navel piercing and it'll be madness!! Right now you can see it through my t-shirts hahaha

Lauraloo Good luck at the 4d scan today!!! Tell us about it!!

Doris Glad the GTT went well

Appletiser I'm reading "The secret life of bees", it's very good and I'm looking forward to the DVD launch of the movie. I want to read "The pillars of the world" after this one, by a British author (don't remember the name now), as I heard it's veeeeeeeeery good.

Hello to the rest of the ladies, hope you have great morning and that you've had better nights than me (waves)

Naat · 13/03/2009 09:07

xpost!

Oh, Tee you're having a rough morning... Hope you feel better soon, hun.

Ermin I always find wisdom in your words ... Thanks for that (even though it was not specifically for me )

Enjoy your DH and your lunch!!!!

MrsMcJnr · 13/03/2009 09:09

Hey ladies thank god today is over! How exhausting. All went ok though. The GTT drink was horrible and I felt sick for several hours later! I don?t have a follow up appointment about that until 26 March which seems quite odd, if I do have GD you?d think they?d want to see me before then The hospital was an eye opener! Parking was a total nightmare and it was soooo busy. The maternity ward must have been near the scan rooms as I kept seeing women in blue gowns and nothing else (!) with tiny babies. It seems you have to wear the hospital paper gowns even after the birth, I think not. Anyway the baby looked fine both at 11am and at 7pm. She is quite big though so I am bracing myself. I have put on just under 5 kgs so far.

Naat ? pregnancy brain has got my Spanish today, I told the nurse I was covered in ?sins? instead of mosquito bites and then told the sonographer that I could feel the baby?s ?potatoes? instead of kicks on the right hand side they both thought it was funny though! Sorry to hear that the agency are being a nightmare you and I are in really similar positions with regards to moving! Hope we manage to do it before the babies arrive!

Ineedmore ? that?s a scary allergy your DS has but as you say, better to know. I have a friend with that allergy. Your new swim teacher?s words would have irritated me too I am so tired at the mo, I snapped at my Mum when she asked me what shops I was going to dash into when I had 30 mins to myself tonight, I told her I was heading for a café to sit down with my book and besides I am not the least bit interested in looking at clothes that I can?t wear for another 6 months anyway!

Happy birthday Laura hope you are having a good one and to your DH for tomorrow

Hey Tibsy ? re the will, guardianship is so hard, I wonder if anyone feels they got the decision right after all you just want to do the job yourself don?t you?

Tee ? sorry to hear about the heartburn totally know what you mean about the baby having rest days as well as busy ones. It also depends on what you have been doing too.

Hello Littlesarah

Insy ? the whole ?who will look after my children if I wasn?t here? is enough to start me crying to be honest. I have an anterior placenta this time too and I have felt less movement to date than with my DS but I am now feeling her more now that she is head down.

Bigcar ? all your babies have been pretty big my DS was 7lb8 and they think that is big here this baby is looking much bigger though MN is my relaxation too

June ? glad your appointment went relatively well. Sounds to me like the MW was suggesting that you should opt for a shot of syntometerine before the placenta is delivered. This drug helps the uterus to clamp down faster and therefore is advisable if you are someone who is at a higher risk than normal of excessive bleeding (when the placenta peels off the uterine wall it is actually an open wound) we can talk about it later though as you say Did you get the answers to all of your questions? That is a bit much that your BIL and SIL come over so much are you expected to cook?!

Ermintrude ? hello

Welcome and congrats Appletiser (drank buckets of that when pg with DS, can?t stomach it this time!) I had ribflare for a bit too this time round, not comfy. As I am sure you already know, it is due to the growing baby pushing your ribs out of their normal position. Try to change positions frequently and avoid sitting on low chairs and other positions which bring your ribs close to your pelvis. You may get temporary relief by lifting the arm on the affected side and bending sideways away from the cache. Sitting cross-legged with your hands on your head can give some relief too ? honestly hope it gets better soon.

Choccie ? your birthday lunch sounds fab! hope the eyes heal before then and that the girdle makes a difference.

Hello Bunnymother

Hello Highrise as Tee said, you can feel the kicks all over which sometimes makes you wonder how many feet your baby has exactly

Doris ? hope your GTT comes back ok

MrsMcJnr · 13/03/2009 09:10

Damn it just had call from health centre and they now want me to be at the hospital on Monday morning at 8am for the GTT (it was the O'Sullivan I had yesterday) I have to stay there for 3 hours now worried about who I will get to watch poor DS
