Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
chocciedooby · 10/03/2009 10:11

June2009 - We have not discussed ante-naltal classes as yet but I am going to enquire with ob on Friday. You would think I would know about these things 3rd time around but it has been so long I feel that I have forgotten everything.
It is a great idea though. We did them together with DS1 and then I went alone when expecting the 2nd time around. I think it's high time dh got a bit more invoilved (if he can spare the time off work)!.

On a brighter note, I booked out holiday last week. We are taking 7 nights over Easter in Ireland in Kerry. We have found a lovely looking hotel that has beautiful lodges in the grounds with all mod cons etc. and we have the use of the hotel facilites including the pool, kids pool, kids club etc. We decided it would be too much for us to go away after baby is born and this is the first yr we have a child in school and would have to brave the crowds during peak summer holiday season. So Easter in Kerry it is. Something to look forward to.
Anyone else planned any holidays?

tibsy · 10/03/2009 10:11

morning all

mrsmc am sure, as the other ladies have said, that it will be fine for your little bubs. can you talk to anyone ie doc before for extra reassurance??

choccie i've had lots of braxton hicks this time round. has left me feeling really uncomfortable at times

tibsy · 10/03/2009 10:13

choccie that sounds lovely re the hols. we usually go camping, dont think i'll be attempting that this year

ermintrude13 · 10/03/2009 10:13

Hi all,

choccie, I had a bit of prolapse with both DC and feel as though it's happening again this time, which is probable. Less likely for a first pregnancy though. But to relieve that feeling of 'fullness', pelvic floor exercises help, and my sis has lent me her big inflatable ball which I can lean over and support my chest against whilst sticking my bottom up high and letting the bump 'hang free' (are you picturing this lovely sight, ladies? . I find a few minutes of that every hour or so really helps with the pressure. You can lean against anything of course, or just do 'the cat' yoga position where your lower body is on the floor and your backside high up. Warning: you may start parping like a trumpet so try it in private

Sharp stabbing pains high in the vagina are also common - baby kicking/muscles doing weird things. Braxton Hicks are happening if I walk very fast, which is as active as I get.

MrsMc The dual state/private care seems to be asking you to repeat things, which is a bind. But 2 u/s in one day won't be harmful.

June2009 · 10/03/2009 10:13

hehe, sorry laura your post clearly says that's where you're going, the two lines you wrote were obviously too much for my baby brain to process ;)

mrsmcjnr The high pitch noise is high frequency sound waves which I beleive is not audible to humans. At our last scan the sonographer was really good and explained what was what on the screen and the amount of skin, fat, tissue and amniotic fluid between you and the baby means they don't feel it even when they apply a lot of pressure.

bunnymother · 10/03/2009 10:15

Morning lovely ladies!

This post moves sooo fast! Here's my attempt at a catch up...

Tee - thank you for your wise words about how we should grieve for Anna?s loss, but not to the detriment of our pregnancies. I think Anna would have been in full agreement. The interloper?s comments were unwarranted. I was a bit worried about my pains, so actually went to see the Dr about the pains I had been having. To cut a long story short, baby is active, healthy and most definitely a girl. I am relieved - ladies, think that if in doubt do go and demand medical attention. I am also having ?fun? times enjoying the insomnia .

Daisy - am also at your DH?s behaviour. I would not move from that spare room without a sincere apology, either. Sometimes these things have to come to a head and be resolved.

choccie - I remember you were saying that you put on more weight than you wanted? I have put on 22 lbs (10kgs) - an increase of approx 20%. I estimate that its almost all on my bump and bazooms - I look so Humpty Dumpty its not funny! Not to mention all the sighing and groaning I make when getting up, bending over. ... Am glad you had a great weekend with your sister, but v sorry to hear you are also going through a difficult time with your DH. Esp when now is the time we need their support more than ever. Pregnancy puts so many strains on you, physically and emotionally. He really shouldn?t ignore you - this should be a team effort! Not aware of you being pregnant solely due to / for yourself . And at the end of the day what is a car (thinking of your DH, daisy) or a job, compared to loved ones? I also get aches around my bump and back when I stand or walk for a while, and what I think are Braxton Hicks.

Muminthemiddleeast - hello and welcome! [amile] As you can see from above, I have also got a big bump, and was told yesterday that baby is normal sized and that its fine for me to be so rotund. I also had bump envy w a girl I met who is a week ahead of me, yet smaller.

Doris - at your mum?s comment! And good luck without your big boy Coke and the GTT!

Dreamy - am at the thought of a nice new car like yours... Good luck w the GTT! It doesn?t sound fun at all.

June - good luck w your GTT, too! Am laughing out loud at your description of mystery poster ? wonderful! And, I too, am ?enjoying? heartburn. Have also taken up the delightful habit of accidentally burping and snoring. I even woke myself up snoring the other night and DH was like . Not good!

Naat - I am not going to a hypnobirthing course, but have ordered the CDs. I have only heard positive things, and think having listened to the CDs coupled w having a doula (as well as DH, of course!!) should mean that I am as prepared and supported as I can be. All the better prepared to coo at the MW demanding an epidural

Laura - sounds like you have definitely made the right decision re cutting back on work. Have no idea how you were doing it, and it certainly doesn?t sound like you were happy doing so much. Congratulations on extra time to relax! And am also at your 4D scan - will be wonderful!

MrsMcJnr - I have been v bad buying gorgeous little knits on ebay (ladies - I recommend! There are lots of v affordable, adorable brand new with tags items!) , which leads me to PayPal. All I need to say is that I can empathise with your experience. Time disappeared, frustration levels increased. I hope everything is all sorted now for your new, shiny, double pram.

BTW am I the only one who finds people love to feel your bump, esp when it moves. My bump now quivers when little miss delivers one of her can can kicks, so its quite entertaining for people now. For the first time in my life, I actually don?t mind people touching my stomach ? as long as they ask first!!!

xxx

tibsy · 10/03/2009 10:16

ermin what a delightful picture you have painted

ermintrude13 · 10/03/2009 10:16

choccie sorry, of course you're on your 3rd too! I only did classes for first DC, am not bothering this time.

We're going to Northumberland for Easter week, a cottage on a working farm with its own beach - don't care what the weather is like as long as DC can muck about by the sea they're happy . We usually camp but I think I'll pass on that this summer - next year though!

tibsy · 10/03/2009 10:20

bunny ive had lots of people wanting to touch me too. theyre generally pretty good tho and either ask 1st or apologise if they just go straight ahead and just do it

bunnymother · 10/03/2009 10:25

ermin - am laughing our loud at your post re graceful position - hilarious!

choccie and ermin - fab sounding holidays! I better get my act together...

DH would love to go to an agricultural show or working farm (can you tell we are city folk?!?!). Stupid me for saying we would go where he wants to this time... I was angling for Morocco or Rome, but DH is completely paranoid about me travelling. I have tried every trick I can think of to get him to agree. Result: am about to google agricultural show.

tibsy - at the "hand on" approach you are getting from people! Must be hard not to slap them.

chocciedooby · 10/03/2009 10:39

When my mum was over a few weeks ago she just walked across the room towards me and lifted up my top to see my tummy! . I hate showing off my bare bump at the best of times. She really took me by surprise and even though I am close to my mum I felt uncomfortable by her doing this. She said she wanted to compare my bump with my sisters (she is due in 2 weeks time).

Hi Bunny mother and tibsy. Ermin - I have just googled pelvic prolapse duting pregnancy and it sounds liked that is what I may be suffering here. I am now doing my pelvis floor exercises Your Easter holiday sounds lovely.

bigcar · 10/03/2009 10:41

Morning all

June, lol at farted then left! Your comment made me Thanks for the reminder about the grant forms, i've seen the doctor a couple of times in the last 3 weeks and keep forgetting, must ask the midwife this afternoon otherwise baby will be here before I get round to it

Doris, I had my gtt last wednesday, I even got up and made my usual morning cup of tea before I remembered and had to pour it down the sink Just make sure you take your 'fix' for when you've finished! Hope everyone having the gtt get on ok.

Choccie, i've also been having the same problems I saw the physio last week (busy week!), june is right, they can't cure the pain but the exercises do help. She also gave me a really good support belt and with that and crutches I can get round the supermarket now without having to go sit down a couple of times! Still takes me ages to get round as i'm soooo slow on my feet now but people are also giving me a wider berth which is great, I can't stand the way some people feel the need to barge past you all the time! I made dh read the info on spd that the physio gave me, the first line reads, 'rest as much as possible' the second, 'don't lift anything heavier than a cup of tea', totally unrealistic when you have other dcs or work but made him realise how much of a big thing it could be and why I was complaining so much about being on my feet for long periods of time.

Daisy, how you getting on with dh?

laura, loooouise, june, hope you all get on well with your scans

MrsMcJnr, I always thought the frequency from the scans was way above the level anyone can possibly hear and that babies moved away from the pressure rather than anything else. Of course I base this on my extensive medical training NOT! I hope your day doesn't prove too stressful. How was your ds after his jabs?

tibsy · 10/03/2009 10:45

oh lordy ermin with her bum in the air and choccie frantically squeezing the things we ladies have to do!!!!
choccie at your mum, my dd's little friend likes to touch my bare bump too, was a bit 'icky' about it at first, but she always asks (via her mum) and she's only 2 1/2!!!!

bigcar · 10/03/2009 11:01

I'm so slow at typing!

Bunny, i'm afraid people get the 'back off' look if I think they're getting too close People touching my bump, other than my kids and dh has never made me feel comfortable. Do they not have agricultural shows abroad?

ermintrude, between you and june i'm going to have a big on my face all day today.

We're going to Selsey in a couple of weeks for a few days. Hoping for some nice weather, we went in june last year and it rained every day, so I guess we'd settle for DRY We are taking the kids out of school (tut tut, I know!) but they are hardly ever off school, ds has had no time off this school year and dd2 has had 1 day off which I think is pretty good.

insywinsyspider · 10/03/2009 12:19

Been trawling through old threads but only gained jist of converstaion, horrible news for Anna and her dp, been thinking of them and def in our prays as this is such a terrible thing to go thro, i hope they take some strength and comfort from your lovely messages (and btw Tee, fwiw I don't think you said anything out of order either)

june - pmsl laughing at mystery poster coming in here, farting and leaving again

daisy - are things any better with dh now?

Mrsmccj - hope you feel reassured by messgaes re scan and can just enjoy seeing lo again (although completely agree its an arse to find the time to repeat all these test esp with ds)

on hols we're taking boys camping in few weeks - I'll be about 30 wks, not sure if I'm mad or not but I think ds's will love it and we're only going half hour down road so if weather bad or doesn't work out we can just come home
Got a luxury holiday booked in September, a v expensive baby friendly cottage in Cornwall, with all job insecurity we've decided just to commit to it, pay up front from savings and have something to look forward too

laura - did you make decsion about working? sounds like a good idea to drop weekend working if you can. Our company has just been through union negioations and we have to do a 40 hr week now (no extra pay ) it'll only be for 6 weeks before my mat leave starts but seriously bad timing for the end of my pregnancy but if I take a pay cut it'll affect my mat pay so not sure what to do...

hello to everyone else and yes must do those pelvic floor, not enjoying stories of prolapse, I'm having issues and trying to see physio, hoping its nothing serious

Naat · 10/03/2009 15:31

Wow! I need to catch up a lot

June and Ermin: oh my! I laughed so hard! Ermin, about the hols!

MrsMc, I agree with the girls, I don't think the scans pose any danger to the baby. It's just a drag you have to have such a looooong day that day. Any news about ebay and the pushchair?

Choccie yey on your hols!! I'm a bit as I don't think we'll go anywhere anytime soon hahaha. Let me know what you think of the place when you come back so as to have it in mind...

Bigcar, good to know your DH read the leaflet and could get a gist of what it's like for you to feel like that And glad about the hols as well...

Bunny, good to know you're finding the book and the CD useful. Our first session was really good, we learned a lot about it and did some relaxation exercises as well. DH is reaaaally into it, which surprised me a lot! I thought he was going to say "ohhh ok, let's do it if you want to" but he's taken it like a fish to water hahaha. Besides, the lady is sooo sweet, her DH was also there to give my DH his side of the story, let's say, so it was brilliant! We have our second session this Sunday evening. I did the rainbow relaxation last night before going to bed and it was good, I'm still "thinking" too much, I'm tooooo rational! But I hope I can get better with the days .

Tibsy, I can't say I'm put off by people wanting to feel the bump... Well, not complete strangers, of course, that'd be odd hahaha. My friends always ask first so haven't had any story haha

Insy you're also going away for a few days! Good for you! Oh, and that luxury holiday sounds like heaven!!

Daisy how are things over there? Any better?

Hello to the rest of the ladies! And don't forget your Kegel!!

Naat · 10/03/2009 15:34

Oh, forgot to tell you! My pregnant brain!! Today I was coming back from Leeds, hopped off the train, thought I had forgotten my pass on the train, hopped on again, the doors closed and next thing I knew, I was going to Manchester Picadilly!!!
I took advantage of that HOUR to listen to my hypnobirthing thingy, but anyway!!! DH mocked me really badly

SweetBROODY · 10/03/2009 15:59

bigcar
Thank you so much ? the weekend was fab... and have finally caught up on everyone?s messages? It was so busy after the ceremony as sister in law came down from Doha ? god I hate her sometimes! I had to pay for her ticket and she asked for some money from things we?d sold on ebay as her ?share? all the ebay money normally goes to the baby fund

Juicygirlpink Anna I am so, so very sorry to hear about Cleo? I am so very sad and have cried so much...

Tee Hope you?re feeling better after your fall! And I totally agree with your comments... we are all extremely sad and shocked about what?s happened to Anna but I am sure she would want us to stay positive?

A quick welcome to the new ladies and a hi and hugs to those I haven?t spoken to in a while! I have been gone a week and some and things have really moved on... it?s unbelievable how much we gas it?s taken me allll day to catch up!

We went to the baby show on the Friday and to be honest it was a huge commercial sell-fest! Didn?t buy anything though but DH booked us a photoshoot for when the baby arrives! The morning was a disaster because mother in law rang from airport to say that the caters had cancelled for the weekend ceremony and she needed me to cook for 100 people! In normal circumstances no problem I?d cook for 1000?s if need be? but having recently been diagnosed with sever SPD I was so so upset ? I cried through the morning and went to the show really late!
Once we got there it was great... DH poor thing said he wasn?t sure how to tell the diff between pregnant or not!

Besides that I have had the 3D scan thing this weekend with a fab company in Hendon... It was amazing?(it cost £150 with 3 photos a CD and a DVD) DH said it had unlocked something inside him and felt liked he loved me even more... he things LO looks like me!

Sorry for the long post it has been a while!

bunnymother · 10/03/2009 16:44

sweetbroody - your DH sounds like a darling, lovely to hear! Not so lovely to hear about your SIL, or caterers cancelling at the last minute, though...

Lovely ladies - been a bit canny, as they say, so wanted to share in case this helps you... MrsMcJnr helpfully posted the 25% discount for orders from the Tommee Tippee website here is link - which is WB02. Well, I just ordered their Closer to Nature® Electric Steriliser Kit (423501) which has the electric/electronic steriliser, breast pump, bottles, breast pads etc etc. This was already reduced to GBP55, which when the items were added up, looked cheaper to me than buying them elsewhere (inc from Boots which has 50% off). Then, with the discount code it came to GBP41.25, delivery included. Bargain!!

Next purchase, was the Angelcare Nappy Disposal System, which has really good reviews, which I bought from Amazon. They have a special discount code on this item which reduced it from GBP25 to GBP7.50, which I got w free deliver. Another bargain.

Anyway, I need to go for a walk before I buy anything else!

lauraloo09 · 10/03/2009 19:03

evening all,

i hope your day went well, tee i hope your feeling better after your day off x

I'm not sure if I am being way oversensitive with my hormones etc but at work today the people I work alongside were basically making the accusation that I am incompetant as they say a file wasnt put in the right place even tho I knew 110% that I put the file in the right tray (now this is after previous hassle I have had off them e.g saying I was making up ante-natal appointments to avoid work which was not true). I basically attacked back stating I did the work as I have been trained (by them!) After around 20 mins of arguing with them the file was found and it was later found out someone moved it from the place I put it, but I didn't receive an apology for the accusation.
I actually feel like calling in sick tomorrow as I cannot go through another day like today. Am I totally blowing this out of proportion and over re-acting?? (hope this makes sense)

Sorry for the rant, had to let it off my chest.

bunnymother · 10/03/2009 19:17

Laura - sounds really upsetting, poor you! . But I have to ask did they say you were incompetent, or did they say the file wasn't put in the right place? If the former, you are not being unreasonable - that's an unjustified comment and something I would want to discuss further. If the latter, then I think you may be a little sensitive in not wanting to go back into work because of it, but you are owed an apology. Perhaps you could ask the "accusers" if they were satisfied once the file was found, or whether there was anything else they needed. Not in a confrontational way, but that may encourage an apology from them. Esp as by tomorrow, some of the emotion may have eased out of the situation. Hope this helps!

ermintrude13 · 10/03/2009 19:22

lauraloo it's horrible to be falsely accused of incompetence - and then to not receive an apology is unacceptable. Rather than not go in tomorrow, is there a way you can go in and raise this issue with them - talk to your line manager and tell him/her that you are receiving unfair criticism? Everyone who accused you should apologise as a matter of course, if they have any grace, and for saying you're making up ante-natal appointments. Cheeky beggars! Personally I've never taken a sick day if I wasn't sick but then again I've never been criticised or bullied at work for any unmanageable period of time so I do understand your reluctance to go in. But if you can avoid giving them real accusations to make and demonstrate your maturity and assertiveness hopefully that will make them less likely to cause further difficulties. Unless they're complete plonkers...

Insy I hope you have a comfy mattress for camping at 30 weeks! We're going to miss camping this summer but hope to be taking babe next year

choccie googling prolapse isn't happy reading is it? . If it's any consolation, after both previous labours I was able to get everything tucked back up with pelvic floor exercises (and the odd bit of lying on my back and physically pushing everything back up ) and it all went back fine. It was probably a bit of vaginal wall rather than actual organs... and I never had any stress incontinence or other problems. So it's not nice but not necessarily chronic.

ermintrude13 · 10/03/2009 19:25

x-posted with bunnymother!

Meant to say, sweetbroody I was a bit at both your SIL's demands for cash after you paid for her ticket and your MIL's demands you cater for an event for 100! You must have the patience of a saint. But very glad your scan went well and that your DH is getting all wide-eyed about it

June2009 · 10/03/2009 19:25

bunny Many thanks fr that I've been trying to decide about steriliser and pumps for ages so that made it easy!
Just been on the tommy website and bought it and then on amazon to get the nappy disposal as well. (and the sex and the city box set...oops my fingers must have slipped!).

Early night for me (hopefully!)
take care!

muminmiddleeast · 10/03/2009 19:38

hi ladies, its very hard to keep up! laura you are pregant and allowd to get upset however that;s not an excuse for others to upset you and blame hormornes! just have lots of rest and go in late maybe? and mention that you must be calm and not exposed to stress sure your doc would agree..

they are mad on scans here and we have requested not to keep doing it- seems a bit pointless to us. i must say its weird as you have to question the doctors and can say yes or no and they just agree with what you say, which is scary as its not like that in the UK!
am doing a list for the nurses for after c section and aftercare- its opposite than the uk- so any suggestions welcome, ie baby not to be given formula or taken to nursery, nor washed by nurses etc etc etc. have to spell it out apparently or they just take the baby away!!!!!!

have a glucose due but no date yet - in the uk it was this week but they don;t seem too rushed here.

am wanting to have ny c section at 40 weeks like last time, but doc wants it earlier at 37 in case i go into labour. am not keen as think too early. and its not like to baby will be bursting out quickly
