Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
lardybump · 24/02/2009 21:24

Evening all. Hope you are all well...

I am going through the crying stage at the moment..... I think my milk is on the way in or something..... Owen has Jaundise quite badly so am trying to feed him as much as possiable but he is still being very sick so it is a bit of a worry. MW said that they are going to keep an eye on him but try not to worry..... Dr has given me stronger pain killers as my stitches are killing me.. Never hurt this much when I was cut last time... ouch....

I have been to the chemist today and am taking dd out to soft play tomorrow.... Cant remember when I started going out and about last time around... Cant believe that he is 3 days old already.......

Starshinetiger · 24/02/2009 21:33

Hey LB - from what I remember, you just need to cry and let it out. Hope the stronger pain killers are helping. Where has the 3 days gone? Think that's brilliant that you're taking DD out already tomorrow.

Ohsnap - happy birthday! Hope you've had a lovely day.

Kooky - it seems to me that Drs and MWs can be really unthinking. Am sure that if it's your blood tests you are right and it is likely anaemia or something like that. I have had to be taking iron tablets for last few weeks and 2 weeks ago, MW said "let's hope it improves or i'll be concerned about homebirth" then this week at GP, he said although my iron levels haven't improved, he is not concerned... I know they have to cover their bases, but it really does seem they will go with worst case scenario. Thinking of you for tomorrow.

lardybump · 24/02/2009 21:46

Astarte I have emailed you my address thanks so much..

Star thanks for that I do remember that I got like it with dd as well but still came as a shock this time around... I keep going from elated to crying in seconds..... DP is being lovely though and making things easy for me.... I have also totally lost my appetite, I am having to take vitamins to ensure Owen gets all he needs.... I just dont feel like eating at all...

I am still madly in love with my little man though, and so proud of Jessica and the way she has embraced his arrival, she is so grown up!!! I really am blessed!!! Oh no here I go again

SesHopesSpringwillbeheresoon · 24/02/2009 21:50

Hello Star! You're creeping up the list now!!

LB - I'm v impressed that you're getting out and about again already. DH looked over my shoulder earlier when I was looking at the FB photos and he - without prompting - commented on how good you looked for someone who had recently given birth!
Glad your DP is looking after you well.

lardybump · 24/02/2009 21:55

Ah thank you ses, and thank you Mr ses.... Dont feel it now though, owen is awake most of the night.... speeking of which I best go and feed him!! I will try and get on tomorrow

Night night...

Sparklytwinkletoes · 24/02/2009 22:21

LB - up and about after 3 days after crash c-section - woman are you mad?! I'm sure you should be resting more than that, its probably why your stitches are sore hope the painkillers kick in soon.

Glask, wow, what a story! Your hospital experience sounds like some of mine, right hand / left hand etc. Glad you are being looked after well though and agree with everyone else, pictures are fab!

Have just had an hours 'nap' with DS from his bedtime till DP got home, and managed to eat two dry slices of white toast with one chopped tomato very nutritious...

Roll on tomorrow

ohsnap · 24/02/2009 23:42

Evening all, wow Glask, that's some birth story! Glad all is well in the end and I hope you have Ruby home with you soon.

Kooky, good luck for your phonecall tomorrow, hope it's nothing serious.

LB, you take it easy or your stitches will be sore for longer! I seem to remember that 3-5 days is the worst for the tears, something to do with hormones I'm sure!

Well my birthday has been, um, interesting. I woke up with what felt like a cold but it seemed to go by lunch time . DD2 seems a bit worse again, hardly eating and her temp was up again this afternoon/evening, she's had 3 full days of ABs so I was expecting her to be a lot better by now, may take her to the Dr again if she isn't better in another day or two... Also this afternoon my Granny had a funny turn and collapsed, they don't know what caused it but it has affected her heart, we'll prob know more tomorrow after she's had some more tests.

kayzr · 25/02/2009 08:30

Morning,

Glask, that is one hell of a birth story and the pics are fab!! I am in the process of making your card, was hoping to post it today but didn't get to finish yesterday.

Playing, I hope everything goes well on Sunday. Fraggle will be fine.

Kooky, I had one of those mystery phone messages and I was really worried. I was just anaemic so fingers crossed it is the same for you.

Ohsnap, Happy birthday for yesterday. I hope your granny is ok.

LB, Glad things are going well. DS2 had swallowed loads of mucus and kept being sick too. Eventually it will clear up.

I have probably missed people out.

I am much better today. I spent most of yesterday morning being sick and then all of the afternoon lying either in bed or on the sofa with an awful headache that DH thinks is because I am/was dehydrated as I could keep nothing down.

SesHopesSpringwillbeheresoon · 25/02/2009 10:19

Morning! Just a quick post before I head off down to Brighton.

Kay - glad you're feeling better. Sounds like a really nasty bug that swept through your household.

Kooky - hope you get your blood test query sorted ok and you get some reassurance.

Hi to everyone else - sorry should dash!

kayzr · 25/02/2009 10:51

Just heard the news about David Cameron's son Ivan. It is awfully sad. My thoughts are with them.

kookykid · 25/02/2009 11:00

Not good news from the blood test reults.

Baby has 1:46 chance of having Edward's syndrome, which is "incompatible with life". Am utterly distraught. This wasn't even on my radar - my worse case scenario was Downe's, which I'd already pretty much decided I could live with after a year of TTC and an early m/c.

I now have to choose between an "invasive" test at 15 weeks or wait for the 20 week scan, which they could do as early as 16 weeks.

Can't believe I have more anxious waiting.

kayzr · 25/02/2009 11:06

Kooky, I am so sorry. I wish I could give you some advice. I think personally I would wait for the scan but I've never been in your situation. Remember we are here for you.

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 25/02/2009 11:08

Morning all!! Been a pretty odd night- i decided to start pumping through the night now my milk was starting to come in so was up sterilising pump attachments and milk bottles, then pumping for half an hour, then back to sleep!! Didn't feel too bad this morning for it though!!

Have started to organise the baby things for her coming home... i know its still a couple of weeks away but i just want to be 100% prepared for her!!

Its going to be another hectic day, i have my post-natal check at 2ish at the hospital, hopefully my staples can come out today... then we need to go and get some food for the 2 of us over the next few days, and try and spend some more time at the hospital too, i'm hoping to progress to skin-to-skin contact today in the hope that it'll get her interested in getting her milk herself sooner. Anyway i'm off now, sorry i've not had time to catch up at all, have skimmed through but my heads a shambles and i can't remember a thing!!

Oh i do remember i need to say Congratulations to Astarte and Lardybump!!! Well done both of you!!!

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 25/02/2009 11:31

KK- so sorry to hear about your results. You must be beside yourself. I've got no experience here but suspect there are a lot of people on MN who do...

Thinking of you

PS need to do a full catch up laters..

SesHopesSpringwillbeheresoon · 25/02/2009 11:39

Just checking in...

Kooky - I'm so sorry there wasn't better news. I think I'd be the same as Kay and wait for the scan at 16 weeks but I guess only you in the situation can make the decision that's right for you. I know 1:46 odds don't sound fantastic but that still means 45:46 that there is no Edwards.
Please feel free to offload on here and let us know if there is anything we can do.

lastboxoftampons · 25/02/2009 12:13

KK - So sorry to hear about the results
I agree with Ses - 1 in 46 doesn't sound very good until you think that the odds are still in your favor. Personally I think I would opt for the amnio or CVS - I don't think I could wait until the scan. Thinking of you and hoping you're okay. {{{{{{sneaky wagon hugs - lots of em!}}}}}

lastboxoftampons · 25/02/2009 12:14

PS - it's probably worth a post on the pregnancy board as I'm sure plenty of people have had similar experiences.

GruffaloSoldier · 25/02/2009 12:30

Hi everyone,

KK - just echoing what every one else has said really - so sorry that you are having togo through this. We are all here for you and like Ses says, there is still a chance things might be ok so don't lose hope.

Glask - I think its a great idea to get everything prepared now - its probably good to keep busy when you cant be at hospital. Good luck with skin to skin contact

Hi Ses, Gyo, Kayz, LBox and anyone Ive missed or any lurkers

Diege · 25/02/2009 13:08

Sorry to just post and run and and not do a catch up, but wanted to offer KK some reassurance.
Edwards syndrome was the thing they (used to) link the cpcs on my scan to, so have done a bit of research about it.
YOu're right, it is generally incompatible with life, but while ds doesn;t often 'show itself' on a scan, edwards innvariably does, with severe structrual abnoramilties (95% of the time). In other words, its one syndrome that is picked up relatively easily on a scan (even 12 week scan in some cases), which might be worth bearing in mind if you're thinking about amnio etc.
Also, the blood test you're referring to is notoriously unreliable for identify the risk of ds, edwards etc (90% false positve rate would you believe) and for that reason has been abandoned by the Health authority I work with, and also 2 in England.
I would really recommend ringing an organsiation called ARC (antenatal results and choices - they have website with contact details) - they are brilliant, and will put things into perspective for you.
Really sorry you're having to go through this - been there 3 times myself and it is horrendous xxx

tinkislittlemissshopping · 25/02/2009 13:55

afternoon

just had my friend over with her little girl who is 3 years old was lovely to see them.
great to hear from you glas
so sorry kooky i would wait for scan
if stitches sore i would definetly rest more.

SesHopesSpringwillbeheresoon · 25/02/2009 14:18

Hi tink - how's Bracken doing?

Diege - that info will be a real help for Kooky I'm sure. Can't believe there can be so many false positives!

Kooky - thinking of you. If wagon vibes are anything to go by, everything will be fine.

kookykid · 25/02/2009 16:36

Thanks everyone,

I am feeling a bit calmer now, after a few hours sleep. Feeling quite numb, but really appreciate everyone's comments. Diege, thank you. From my brief search on MN for other Edward's threads it seems that it is still very rare. Just a lot to get my head round.

I have decided to wait for the scan, as I don't want to risk m/c a healthy baby. Perhaps if they were offering the amnio now I would take that risk, but if it's only a week's difference I can manage that. I am starting to compile a list of questions for the MW.

Sorry to bring everyone down.

Sparklytwinkletoes · 25/02/2009 16:39

Hi all, good to hear from you Glask.

KK, sorry to hear you've got this to worry about, Diege's advice sounds good though and I've heard ARC recommended quite a few times, hope they can provide you with some more concrete information to enable you to make your choices.

I've copied this over from the Oct ante-natal thread as am too tired to think of typing it twice....

I've spent most of the day in hospital. It started off with me having violent D again this morning, so rang NHS Direct, they said to go see GP. So got appt. for 9.30. He said he didn't know what was wrong and asked me to wait in the waiting room. He then called me back in and said he'd spoken to the EPAU at the local hospital and to go along to see them.

So I did.

They didn't seem overjoyed to see a patient with D. Understandable really. I was there from about 11 to 4, and have been prescribed some antinausea medicine and some anti-cramping medicine and they think its all stress related IBS & a >

I've finally had something to eat, and as I sit here and type, my stomach sounds like its singing a bizarre whale song and I'm just waiting for the next (ahem, TMI ALERT) erruption.

On the upside, they have asked me to go back in for a scan in the morning to check 100% that everything is OK and its not due to LO being settled in the wrong place.

What a day. I just need my insides to calm down for a bit. Hope the drugs work

Sorry for selfish post, especially when there are others with so much worse to deal with right now.

kookykid · 25/02/2009 16:54

STT,

God, poor you. You're not having an easy time of it. Hopefully the scan will give you some reassurance about your LO at least. Hope the medication kicks in soon and D stops.

Sparklytwinkletoes · 25/02/2009 16:59

Hi KK, seems neither of us are, have you spoken to anyone yet?

I've just had another major emergency trip to the loo, so that makes four today alone. I've got to try and get DS from nursery now... fingers crossed!
