Ha ha Katz my ds never smiles for his either! They did these fab little xmas videos of them and for the whole 10 mins he sat looking petulant then apparently spent the rest of the day laughing, joking and making everyone else smile...typical eh!

katzguk · 20/04/2005 14:56

i know especially as i want to send it out to all the grandparents, probably with the birth annoucement cards!! but hey they can just have another picture of solom DD to go with last years!! next year will be the two of them, thats kinda strange!

afternoon ladies

As I'm posting late, here's my vital statistics

32 years old, first baby, married 2 years. Don't know if girl/boy but strongly suspect girl owing to a number of comments the doctor made when he scanned me (very long detailed scan, no sign of a willy either). Dead excited but nervous about the birth bit. Keep seeing ladies giving birth on discovery health who are kind of mooing, so have resolved not to make any animal sounds!

Oh yeah, and am determined to see U2 at 39 weeks if bubs doesn't make an entrance!

Quick question about movement - the last couple of days, baby has been performing right old acrobatics. Last night I learnt what it means to be kicked in the ribs (ouch). Sometimes the movements seem smooth, other times quite frantic, like she's jittery. Anyone else had the same experience??

MrsWednesday · 20/04/2005 15:15

Good to know about more about you Mogwai. There is a June stats thread somewhere on the ante-natal clubs section so you can have a nosy at everyone else on here. I'm 33, with one 2 year old DS and this one is due either June 7th or June 13th (scan date or my date...can't decide which one to go by). Don't know what we're having, but DS is going to be disappointed because it's definitely not a monkey.

Yes, I'm having very strange variations in movement. Most of the time it feels like baby is just rolling its feet across my stomach but other times (like last night going home from work) it was properly booting me. Sometimes I'm worried it's going to kick its way out through my belly button.

Redheadmum, hope you are feeling a bit better and that your DD is recovering too. Have to say, I'm tempted to take tomorrow off sick as I've got a bit of a cold and bugger all work to do. I fancy having a day lying down on the sofa watching DVDs.

Ahh, free food...always tastes nicer I think .

I was smiling at the solemn nursery pictures. Luckily the one I've got of DS this year is lovely (well, cheeky and smiley rather than lovely). His previous ones have been terrible but I felt obligated to buy them (thought they might think I didn't love him if I didn't buy the pictures ).

Off to eat something sweet with my cup of tea.

welshmum · 20/04/2005 15:27

Hi Mogwai and welcome aboard the June charabanc (sp?)Mine makes all sorts of different movements so I guess it's normal - always worth mentioning anything that feels odd to the midwife though I think.
Pink - if I can go through the excitement of seeing Ewan Magregor late on then I'm sure you'll cope with Tori just fine.
Lippy - I've been giggling at the thought of you and the plasterer - I'm considering embracing the Fimble as he's cracking along with painting the nursery - it's a lovely soft toffee colour and very restful - compared with the violent candy pink it was (what got into me then??)
Uwila - have you got a date for your c-section yet? I've forgotten when you were seeing the consultant. I should find out what's ahead for me next week.
I went for my cardiologist appointment//tests today - and guess what....they had no record of me so couldn't do them. Midwife was really apologetic and is trying to sort it out - I think the baby will come before I get a proper diagnosis!
To console myself I went to get buy some shoes - felt so cross in the shops - caused by my own ungainliness now and the assistant's bloody rudeness with not offering any help - not even a shoehorn. Gone off shopping.

mogwai · 20/04/2005 15:29

oh I'd recommend a day off sick watching telly.

Can't think what I'm doing at home at this time on a wednesday afternoon....

teabelly · 20/04/2005 15:57

Mogwai - getting loads and loads of movements here too - play time would appear to be about 7-8.30 in the morning (with a small rummage around whilst on the train for eye popping belly ogglers!), then she sleeps and its all go again at about 11pm for half an hour or so strangely enough she's dead still when ds grabs hold of bump and sings (well I call it that as it's slightly better than my voice!!) to her when I get home - I think she's just thinking '...if I stay very still he'll go away!'

Welshie - brave you - I couldn't go shoe shopping right now - have very puffy feet - struggling to get into most of my work shoes as it is (it's an attractive look!)...hey just had a thought maybe that's why I keep being offered a seat on the tube, they aren't thinking about bump at all, they just feel sorry for my huge swollen feet, he he he!

my bump movements have now tailed off a bit (now 33 weeks) had a manic couple of weeks last two but now a lot calmer!!

the strange thing for me is that DD dropped at this stage, she well and truely engaged over night, went from not being able to breathe to normal overnight. not sure that will happen second time round although wish it would!!

teabelly · 20/04/2005 16:24

He he KVG - glad to be of service

MrsWednesday · 20/04/2005 16:29

Ha! Must be that late afternoon work lull.

Shoe-shopping - very impressive. I am not going to bother as I can't see my feet any more.

bye bye KVG, have a good evening.

teabelly · 20/04/2005 16:54

Right that's me off in a mo too...have a good evening all, and will try and log on over the next couple of days, ds permitting!!

MrsWednesday · 20/04/2005 17:04

Bye everyone!

Will be off myself soon. I might not be around until next week if I do take tomorrow off sick.

charleypops · 20/04/2005 18:02

Evening! Oo I'm so late getting on here these days - I bet you've all disappeared and never get to read my fascinating posts

Hi Mogwai nice to see you here! Congrats on your first bump! My bump is very busy and sometimes jitters like yours - he seems to get hiccups a lot too.

Hi Redhead, sorry your dd has been sick. hope she's better now. Hope you feel better soon too. You're not going back to work after this are you?

Brighteyes - Thanks for the grobag link - that might be very useful

where's Lynny/Nabs/Mirage? I want to know how Lynny's GTT went. There was something I wanted to ask Mirage, can't remember though....

Welshie - fgs, another record f**k up Honestly, all this stuff really makes me doubt if I have the correct results for any tests I've done. How annoying - no help in the shoe shop. This sort of thing annoys me too. I think people who've never had a baby just don't get it. I was crouching down on the floor a few days ago looking at shoes (in a shoe shop), and discovered I could not get back up again - there was nothing to pull myself up by (had visions of causing a shoe avalanche. I had to go on all fours and struggle up like that

Lol tea at your ds's singing to his poor sister!

Coop - It's not too late for pelvic floor excercises to make a difference you know.

Pink - it's now you should be doing your pelvic floors.

Can you tell I've just got back from antenatal class?

Ordered my first nappy through ebay - a brand new tot's nippa!

I'm planning on changing Pod on the dining room table if he's downstairs and on top of a chest of drawers when upstairs. Is there any reason I shouldn't do you think? Won't be able to do it on the floor very often because of my dodgy back.

Trib - why don't you buy a gluten free sliced loaf and stick it in the freezer so you dh can make sarnies for when you have to go in?

Cobweb - good luck with the house.
I need to start setting up a nursing area - Do any of you think a glider chair and footstool would be a good investment?

Can anyone recommend a good nursing pillow?

Lippy - don't think we have discussed placentas actually! I'm planning on a psyiological 3rd stage, but don't think I'll be doing anything with my placenta - I know a lot of people do "plant" theirs with a tree which is a lovely idea for the baby to have a tree growing from his nutrients. I'd definitely do that too, only we're not planning on staying where we are for much longer, and neither dp's or my family has a suitable plot. Suppose we could put it in a planter so it can move with us - my mum does that with her cats when they die. Re the ipod - Mine only lasts a couple of hours before it needs charging and I'm sure I need my laptop to charge it, so I probably won't take mine

berolina · 20/04/2005 18:06

KVG - I really have had dh putting my socks on for me a couple of times ! Am beginning to have a real problem with bending down...
Babs had a quiet phase for a week or so, but over the last few days has been really moving again (am 34 weeks today - eek!) - he has days of kicking/nudging on the left and days when he does it on the right. He also had a phase of kicking up towards the ribs, but hasn't done that quite so much over the last couple of days.

welshmum · 20/04/2005 19:27

Charley - we used a chest of drawers for the whole time with dd and it worked just dandy, dh built a little set of shelves wuite near by and we put all the stuff (cotton wool, nappies, cream etc) on there.
My L-shaped pillow I got from John Lewis - and the cover - was very useful indeed. If you're going to get one anyway I'd buy it now then you can use it for cushioning in bed too as you get heavier.
My friend's got a a very swish nursing chair and stool - really luxurious - feels almost too nice when you sit in it iykwim (her dh rushed out and bought itt for her when she put her back out through feeding in a bad chair - sweet of him)
I may have gone off shopping but have booked a hair appointment so I can get the colour done for the summer before the proverbial hits the fan
I'll have reasonable hair and some new shoes - sod the middle bit!

redheadmum · 20/04/2005 19:36

hey anyone around?

moan alert my first day of rest (!) got called back to the childminders early (don't mind as Dd not really up to a day and was gonna pick her up early anyway). CM just asked if I was around next wed (she knew I was as I'd told her I'd been signed off) she wants the day off to go to a show! This is on top of just having come back from her 2nd hol, and announcing that she's going away for a weekend in May so can't have Dd for me to do my course. GRRR.....

No, Charley I'm not intending to go back to work after this. Am hoping that the doc will sign me off til 34/36 weeks then go on maternity leave. I'll go in for one day - really need to have a meeting and tidy desk but have given up thinking I could do a weeks work. My main aim is to keep the bood pressure down so I can get my home birth (and of course not get pre-enclampsia.....)

the ante natal classes reminded me
why I want a home birth
oh god childbirth (pant, pant, blow) !!

nursing pillow - just got one of those circular ones from mothercare - it was fine.
Mogwai on the subject of birth...er...you might find making animal sounds a good option! best not to think of all the humiliating things you might do....and just forget it in the haze - v easy to do. Ahem, say no more

Berolina - fear not, you WILL know when your waters break. I thought I'd never possibly tell, but when it happens you know - plus they might not break til you've started labour anyway - and you'll know that's happened! ;)

bubbaloo · 20/04/2005 20:56

evening all,
red-what a nightmare with the childminder especailly as your meant to be taking it easy at the mo.
mogwai-congrats and welcome to the june thread-its never too late
jonah-know what you mean re:the temperature thing-im still none the wiser,ha ha! im also really puzzled as to why everyone seems to be washing all the new baby clothes.probably another daft question but does anyone know the reason for this and is it really neccessary?
uki-im not getting strong kicks at all, infact theyve never been really strong to start with but they are definately much lower down now which is a bit scary.also getting some twinges here and there so hope he's not going to put in an early appearence
cobweb-fingers crossed for the house-how stressful, moving and having a baby so lots of good luck
lipstick-glad the plastering is going well-its so nice to get all the jobs out the way.we've virtually finished the nursery now and just have the furniture to assemble
had a bit of a nightmare yesterday.i came out of the station and went flying, grazing both knees and my hand.luckily i didnt fall on my tummy so that was good but i think ive twisted my ankle as its been rather painful today-never mind, these things happen
cant believe ive only 2 days left at work as i finish on friday-woohoo,i cant wait
keep getting people coming in the office with little blue outfits which is really sweet-he's now got more clothes than me
is anyone also finding they need the loo all the time, during the day? im up about 5 times in the night but during the day is just as bad-i had to jump off the tube this morning 3 times(in only 40 mins!!!)to go to the loo

pipped to the post by KVG! lMornin'

feeling a bit more positive this morning - probably helped that I had a bit of a moan on here and mentally kicked around a bit. I've said to the CM to have wed, but am hoping to use it to my advantage when I need some childcare back. ie might give myself an extra day. I do feel a bit over a barrel as she will be looking after Dd when I'm giving birth and has said will do weekends whnever I give birth.

got the cleaner coming today have to say this is the best thing I've done - can concentrate on nesting stuff!!!

Bubs - washing baby clothes. I think you're meant to wash everything to ensure any chemicals that the clothes are treated with are washed out and so don't effect the skin.

Hurray for cleaners Red! Ours has been fantastic considering what a state the house has been in with everything upside as painting/room moves happen.
Not such a big hooray for your childminder though - it's such a let down when you've mentally given yourself the day off childcare to rest and then find yourself back at the coalface.
Bubs - I started off washing all of dd's new clothes and gave up after about a week. I won't be doing any of it this time around. Call me a bad mother but I had too much else to do.
Dd decided to wake up at 0530 this morning and wouldn't go back to sleep so she was allowed in our bed - on condition she tried to sleep. No sleeping was done but she felt bad enough to give us little kisses every now and then - good job she's quite sweet as I'm knackered this morning.
