Morning all! Gosh what a lot of posts!

Cobweb - we had a hospital bag discussion a few threads ago. I posted mine, and have added to it as I've got more ideas from other people's lists, I'll post it again if it'll help?

MrsW - glad you're feeling better

KVG - how many weeks are you?? Surely it's too early to be thinking your waters might've broken! ,

Lippy - Don't you worry, when (if) we go, there is no danger of me straying too far from the pool or soft white beach.... why on earth do people do that (stray elsewhere)? I can understand a little saunter to the beach bar for a drinkie or perhaps to ask someone to bring you a cocout or a spot of lunch, but anything else, oo no! Agree with you about the a/c definitely. I bet your builders are being ultra nice today because they can sense you're volcanic - good for you! Yay - you've really got into your new baby already - wicked!

We did an all-inclusive thingy 2 or 3 years ago in Antigua it was just so lovely and easy peasy - might do something like that again. Think I'll have a look today. Oh dear - I'm getting excited. Dp has recently been mumbling something about hiring a motor caravan thing and going to Cornwall which I was a bit excited about, but that vision has kind of faded a bit in the past couple of days....Oops........ his poor bank account!

Thanks Tea and everone for the advice on how to judge babies' temperature - and thank to you too Welshie for that pearl of wisdom

welshmum · 19/04/2005 11:56

Tea we had a real snuffler too who had to be moved for my sanity. Even when she was in her own room she sounded like a giant snoring in a cave - to a new mummy anyway
I think we had one grobag per season as they were pretty expensive (25 quid?). Will have to dig all this stuff out.......
You ladies have got me worried on the wee front - I hardly go at all and am really thirsty too - bit worrying as at some point all this liquid will have to come out......

berolina · 19/04/2005 12:06

Hi all - just a quick post from my lunch break. (Yes, am at work today... am sitting here with my feet on a portable footstool thingy a student lent me)
Thanks everyone for your comments and advice. Lua, I was actually quite surprised myself when doc said that about the lungs, because I'd heard too that you can't always tell that - but he really seems to know what he's doing/talking about and he's monitored this pregnancy from the beginning with more scans that you can count, so has been able to watch and assess baby's progress. I've gained 14 kg and am not any fatter apart from a little bit round the thighs, so I would guess his weight assessment is relatively accurate. But yes, you're right, I would rather have my little footballer stay put until at least 37 weeks. I've talked to dh about it and have decided to do 2 things: a) rigorously cut out everything apart from actual teaching (time actually spent teaching only amounts to 12 hours a week); b) get work to provide me with, or at least pay for, a lounger-type thing for my teaching (plastic sun lounger would do) and make sure it gets moved about to my teaching rooms - and if they refuse I'm off. That way I won't actually have to catch up on anything because I'll have taken all reasonable steps to be able to work. I've spoken to my boss and he is understanding - yay!

MrsWednesday · 19/04/2005 12:18

Good for you Berolina!

Welshie, the worst thing for me is that when I actually go to the loo in the night it's for the smallest wees in the world, but if I don't go, I just lie there thinking about it which keeps me awake. I have been like this since before I got a BFP. Grrrrrrrrrr.

welshmum · 19/04/2005 12:20

Mrs W insomnia is just awful - I have phases of it and know that I'll go into one once the birth gets pretty close. Then that'll be it - back on hyper mummy alert and no proper sleep for 2 years (I want to put a smile on the end of this but can't bring myself to.....)

Back again,

Ok, everyone. Is it just me... am I the only one seeing a huge, black block ove the end part of Mrs W's post at 10:09???? This happened once before to me and I asked if anyone else could see it, but it was the w/e and no-one replied waaaaaaaaaah!!! What is that about??

KVG, Grobags are pretty expensive for a new one, 25 pounds plus. I would buy one per season as Tea or Welshie suggested. If you have an explosive poo or vomit incident, just use a blanket instead that night, I really wouldn't buy 2, I don't think you'll need them. The widest range is on their website or the bumpto3 catalogue But I reckon if you do a search you can find them all over the place, I know Mothercare and John Lewis do them, but usually stock a small range. M'care and JL also make their own brand of 'sleeping bag' which is not the Grobag, trademark, iykwim???!!!

LipstickMum · 19/04/2005 12:35

By the way, how long is reasonable to wait for a quote? We had someone come round, 4 weeks ago now and still no quote for our small bathroom. I called them last Tuseday and asked when I would receive it, "early next week" was the answer. Hmmm should I call again now, or wait till tomorrow, is 4 weeks a reasonable length of time???

welshmum · 19/04/2005 12:44

I think 4 weeks is way too long. Have you got more than one company quoting Lippy? Might be a good idea....

MrsWednesday · 19/04/2005 12:44

No black box as far as I can see Lippy.

Would also agree that four weeks is far too long to wait for a quote.

LipstickMum · 19/04/2005 13:14

Ok, thanks, I'm not being ott about it then. I am getting someone else to quote too, although I'd love the 1st guy to do it, he's an excellent carpenter and really cares about the finished result.

Weird about the box then

What food is everyone thinking about for their hospital bag?? I am writing it now and remember this problem last time; you can't pack anything fresh until much later! I chatted to dp about it over brekkie today. I asked him what the hell he ate!! He said he had some sandwiches from the cafeteria, but I wouldn't let him eat them because I was throwing up!!! I said something like "oh baby, I'm so sorry, I do remember that actually" ANd he said "It's ok baby, you were labouring at the time!!" Sweet!!!

ALso, what about music?? I remember the music systems being, errrr primitive. They only had tape players!! SO I spent ages taping music onto tapes I ended up not listening too!! This time, we're all hi-tech and have an ipod, which is the perfect solution. Can you get little speakers for them? That's if the little hospital tape deck hasn't been updated and we can't plug into their system.

Charley, is your hospital bag list on the previous thread?? I wouldn't mind having a gander, I'm not sure if I haven't missed something obvious!! I know by now that you are thorough

OOOH excellent, thanks KVG! I'll go online and see where I can get some.

MrsWednesday · 19/04/2005 14:32

Blimey, I'm starting to wonder whether I actually gave birth or if DS is just a figment of my imagination - I can't remember eating anything OR listening to anything last time. What was I doing????

Managed to have a look at my belly button today - it is surrounded by stretch marks . Anyone else been cursed by them yet?

Lippy - you don't have to get Ipod apple speakers - you could get something cheaper if you wanted to - as long as you've got the right lead you'll be ok. Will ask dh for some sugestions tonight and report back if you like.

LipstickMum · 19/04/2005 15:06

Yeah, I thought as much Welshie, dp may have some old ones knocking about.

welshmum · 19/04/2005 15:06

Lippy - he was just on the phone about something else. He says you need a mini jack lead out of the ipod and that will go into more or less any speakers - you can get some for £3.99

MrsWednesday · 19/04/2005 15:28

Lucky you KVG!

I was LOL at the inhaling jaffa cakes comment by the way.

teabelly · 19/04/2005 15:32

Right back from a little project there...hmmm music/food in labour...we had a tv in the room at Bedford Hosp, and I'm vaguely aware of Corrie & Heartbeat being on in the background...don't remember eating anything at all but everything was relatively quick. Re music took loads of cd's and tapes in but didn't listen to one of them! They remained in the labour bag along with half the stuff I'd packed!...and poor dh - don't know quite what he expected, but I remember him packing a book for the 'quiet bits' and then complaining that he didn't get a chance to read any of it!!!

LipstickMum · 19/04/2005 16:35

Hehe Tea, glad I'm not the only one who didn't unpack the essential oils and hours of music while I was labouring We didn't have a tv, dp would fcking kill me if I asked for Corrie!!! I can just imagine him saying "I will not have my 2nd child born with a 'soap opera' (words spat out in disgust) in the back ground !!"

Yes, I love soaps, dp doesn't, it's an ongoing 'discussion' in our house

Thanks Welshie, jacks and leads and stuff, got it! I'm sure dp will have some somewhere, he tends to accumulate that kind of thing

Ok, I think you all deserve a treat

So, here is a bit of good news about my loft. Today they have moved into the front bedroom (dd's new room) and are putting up the fire proof ceiling!!! Fingers crossed they will plaster it tomorrow because they have set up a whole load of trestles in there to do the work, so it would be stupid to take them down and put them back up again... But sometimes, builders aren't logical. They have to do the same in dd's current room, baby's new room, and that is full of her stuff, so I can't seem them moving all that to the front room to plaster board, set up tables, move it back blah blah am whittering on, will shut up

I don't know where I'd be without you lot to talk to about this!! Really, I am lying awake at night going over all the things that need to be done in 9 weeks and getting so worked up! SO, thanks all for listening - or not if you have any sense

They've worked hard today, it's 4:20 and they are usually gone or on their way home by now! I definitely think the main man is a secret MNer!!

He he - either that Lippy or he's had a pg wife/girlfriend and knows not to cross a lady in that emotional state So if they do things logically (what with having set things up now) does that mean they may be finished earlier than anticipated? Oh oh and did they come back about the heater situ?? Oh I love having workmen in I can verbally bash and blame it on hormones...we had the garden re-done when I was expecting ds, and you've never seen a politer and quicker bunch of big sweaty men than when one inadvertently asked when the baby was due and I told him 'today', he he he - lucky for them he came 2 days late
