Morning all,

Sweetheart, I'm so pleased for you! Will be keeping my fingers crossed for you and lurking on the December thread. Have you got a scan coming up soon or anything?

Good to see you again Cobweb and McMudda. I have been thinking about both of you and wondering how you are. Tessiebear has also been missing for a while, hope she is ok.

Happy birthday to your DD Welshie, and Uki, hope you had a great time on Saturday.

Megi, your experience sounds frightening. Hope you are putting your feet up now and generally taking things easy.

No news from me, suffering from insomnia which is making me grumpy with everyone.

Cooperoo · 18/04/2005 11:52

Hello all
Bero - Hope all OK with work. You will appreciate working later when the baby is here I think. It must be difficult though.
Pink - Sorry about your awful dreams. I had lots half way through all involving the deaths of people I loved. I tried not to read into them and put them down to preg hormones as usually I hardly dream at all. I had some very rude dreams too not involving DH so I hope they didn't mean anything or I am in trouble. Good luck with the work you have to do and chin up. We will be here for you. Take care.
Uwila - lol about your DH and the poo. I am afraid that I have caught more poo's in my hand than I care to think about as when dd had bad nappy rash she was nappy free for the whole time we were at home and inevitably pooed once in a while. The first time was a shock but I have to say that dealing with that and using cloth nappies has got me a bit numbed to the grossness of poos. The wees used to annoy me more as I never really feel I have cleared them up properly. You can tell I am in rented accomodation though can't you.
Lippy - Glad you found the pop up useful. I feel justified in getting one now. The baby may have to sleep in it over night at my Dads but this will only be two night and to be honest baby will be so small I can see it ending up in bed with me so hopefully all wil be OK. My mum has a crib bought especially for the summer trip home (second hand I hasten to add). I am glad to hear that you flew at 3 weeks with no probs. I didn't really think about it when we planned our trip home either. I just know I want to be there for my friends wedding and dd just fed and slept a that age. It is only other peoples shock that has got me thinking but I feel better now I know you did it. Good Luck with the radiator.
SH - How exciting. Congratulations. Wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancy. Hope you are able to relax and enjoy it.....also we were in no way annoyed, just intrigued. Fantastic news!
Tea - I had an organising weekend too digging out all the little clothes and stuff. I haven't washed it all yet as I thought it was a bit soon but perhaps I should. I got a bit overexcited though and completely over bid on my Samsonite pop up cot thing so I have banned myself from ebay for a while until I get over the panic stage.... I did win it and so have crossed it off my list as least. As a consequence I am making myself get second hand nappy wraps instead of nice new ones that I had initially promised myself.
Kat - Glad things are good at work. If you feel well enough cancel that leave and do the work now, presuming you can carry the leave forward.
Mrs W - Hope you get some sleep soon.
KVG - Still waiting to get the lowdown on DH's course. Have till Wed to decide.
I have booked our tickets home today as I was getting very worried about the prices going up again. I have paid extra for flexible tickets too just in case so I feel we are covered and I am very relieved that it is done. We fly on the 6th July and back on the 2nd Aug. BA let you fly with a baby that is just 48hrs old too . Although I won't be doing this. If necc I can change the tickets to fly on the Sat so DH can do his course as they are holding them for me at the mo. I was panicking about it all but I am very excited now. Costing a small fotune mind but there you go.
Trib - Any news on the job???
I have had a nasty dry cough the last week or so. Have coughed so hard on occasion I have brought up bile and leaked wee . V annoying and so rang the m/w today to see if there is anything I am allowed to take. She said no and has asked me to see the doc incase it is a pregnancy related asthma allergy thing. Anyone else come across this? I am not worried but will of course go see the doc. Feel a bit silly though as I am not really ill so at least I can say it is on her instructions.
DH got stung by a hornet this weekend that was lurking in the clothes he had brought in off the line. He was very brave though. I would have been going mad. Anyway I must be off as I have a friend due round this pm and the house is in need of a little tidy....ahem.
Byeeeee

LipstickMum · 18/04/2005 12:08

Morning everyone

Hello Sweetheart, nice to see you pop in and share your good news Now you are 'out' I'll go and congratulate you on the Due In Dec thread, didn't want to do it before because I thought if too many of us Junies posted our congrats there, people would guess who you were!! Wonderful news xxx

Coop and Pink, I had another horrid dream last night too, death of loved ones and lots of horridness Just trying to forget about it.

Hi Tea, good for you sorting out the new babes room, I am so !!

No sign of the builders today, I did send a very decent email last night re the radiator, coincidnece??? We'll never know

Perhaps the top guy logs onto MN???!!!

Still, can't complain too much, we had a lovely lunch yesterday with friends and even braved it outside to eat!!! First meal of the summer al fresco!!!

Coop, dh is travelling with you isn't he? I agree, travelling with really teenies is not that difficult, it's all a state of mind! They sleep and eat, so if they're breastfeeding, you're sorted.

Oh god, the election can't bear it.

Cooperoo · 18/04/2005 12:16

Ohh Lippy sorry to hear of horrid dreams. I really can sympathise!! Yes DH is definately travelling with me. I have done about six flights now with dd on my own though but with two children NO WAY!!!!!!!!!!! It has got harder and harder the older dd has got which is prob why I was not phased initially. DH will be incharge of dd and I get the baby! My easiest flight from dd's point of view was out here when she was 5 months old and that was on my own. Was a RAF flight though and although I got no help at the UK end a lady me me at the aircraft steps with a pushchair to help with dd and a very gorgeous tanned young man leapt all over the carousel to get all my luggage at this end.. and then DH was there waiting for me and I hadn't seen him for a month so that was FANTASTIC.

Cooperoo · 18/04/2005 12:17

met me not me me !

uwila · 18/04/2005 12:24

CONGRATULATIONS SWEEHEART

uwila · 18/04/2005 12:25

Sweeheart? No, I haven't been drinking. That was SweeTheart.

charleypops · 18/04/2005 12:52

Sweetheart!! Hello!!! Oh CONGRATULATIONS I am SO HAPPY for you both . Thanks for letting us know! I read about getting pg quickly after an mc quite a lot - I guess your body must be geared up for it. I was hoping this would happen. All the luck in world to you! x x x

Pink - Sorry you're feeling so shitty right now. You're a creative person - you want to write don't you? I think being depressed can be very creative. And who wants to read stuff by someone that's had no experience, trauma or struggle in their life?? it's like songwriting - how can you produce a great song without references?? A lot of writers are self-doubters and have or do suffer(ed) with depression. You won't sink into obscurity. All that's happening to you will make you a more of an interesting person, not less of one. Passing exams and having lettters behind your name cannot compensate for experience for creative people.

Megi - you poor thing with your ce - glad it wasn't anything more serious, you must've been so worried! Lol at your not shagging loads comments - well pre-empted How's your new toy? What colour did you get?

Lummox - what colour is yours? sounds like you got every possible accessory with it - like a new house perhaps!

Rolf Uwila re the poo! My doggy's immunised me to the grossness of poo thank goodness!

Lippy - I'll see how I feel on Saturday - i might be up for a bit of elbow stabbing (not getting, giving) at the NCT sale. Just noticed in the local paper though that there's another baby sale (not NCT) on the SAME day at the SAME time - how annoying!!!! Your builders are such cheeky bastards - I can't (well I can...) believe they've told you "you won't need one" and to "get an electric heater" OOooooooo I bet you're FURIOUS
Do you think we could have a hot Caribbean or Thai beach based holiday when our baby's between 5 and 10 months old - would he not get too hot?

Coop - shouldn't you be using Calgon or something in your washing machine? Can you not get something that you can put in on an empty boil wash that will get rid of any limescale so you can start again? it would be such a nightmare if your washing machine packed up now.... Hope your cough goes soon!

berolina - hope you can leave work soon!

Ah Tea - I bet you had a lovely time sorting out all your ds's old stuff.

KVG - I know practically no-one with a baby, those that I do were very conventional - no breastfeeding, no co-sleeping, no washable nappies, full epidurals without questioning it and don't understand that I want to do things differently to them, so MN is a real life-saver for me - it's an invaluable resource for helping to make all kinds of important decisions

lynny - have you had your GTT results?

oo Katz - what are you working on what experiments????

Trib - was your newphew gorgeous? is he still causing chaos with his sister?

re baby clothes - what do you dress newborns in? I've just got babygrows - should I get vests too? I don't like the idea of pulling them over his head - can you get popper ones? Do vest popper under the nappy? or is the point of them so they don't?

Did I tell you I've finally got my Mtrix car seat?? It's a Deluxe one - BLACK! and in NEW condition from an ad in a local paper - it\s still in the plastic wrapper with all the documentation - never used!

uwila · 18/04/2005 13:01

Charley,
I personally think newborns are best in plain white boring snappy variety from mothercare. When they are that tiny, they outgrow them so fast. But if you want some cute posh outfits (and I'm definitely guilty of this) I like Gap and John Lewis. There is one item tha tI think is positively fantastic for newborns. It's a nightgown looking thing that has no legs, just a drawstring at the end of the "bag" where his legs are. It is a great asset for midnight changing. So easy. DD had a couple which we got at John Lewis. But, I noticed last week that Mothercare had some too (blue ones for boys and pink ones for girls). For some daft reason (which I can not now recall) I didn't buy one (or more!). May have to return to Mothercare this week.

welshmum · 18/04/2005 13:03

Charley I seem to to remember that dd had a vest and then a babygro - depends on how hot it is when they arrive I guess. As for vests you can get some that tie/pop down the sides - bit easier than trying to get something over their floppy little heads.

Lua · 18/04/2005 13:07

HI everybody!

Another grim grey day here!!! I was feeling so springy a couple of weeks ago... what happened? We had a nice weekend and took DD to the zoo. DH failed his second drive test, so he was not in a good mood.... I can't schedule mine because the fisrt daye available is June 11 (edd june 3), definetely not a good time!

Cobweb, good to hear from you. I am jealous and scared to hear you'll be having your baby so soon! Hope you sort out a place to stay!

Pink - I reccomend ice cream! I'm terrfied too of staying home with baby, and this is my second!! Didn't have maternity leave last time.... But I figure, one day at a time. At least it should be niice weather, and we can go for lots of walks and sit on cafes. Of course, I'm counting DS will be a sleeper like DD... and now I just jinxedmyself!

Charley - We bought a lot of clothes for DD that we ended up never using because they were required to go over her head. People do it, but I just couldn't be bothered and she only use babygrows type thingys. I thin it wasn't until she was 4 months old when someone said something like - How cute still in her PJs... that DH and I got a clue and start dressing her on something else...

Lippy - Builders are scheduled to start this Wed [shock}! Just remembered I have all the pets to deal with it. I am in total panic mode now!! How does it work out? DO you stay home when they are working? is the noise and dust bearable? Do you have to sit at home until they decide to show up? Help!!!!!!!!

katzguk · 18/04/2005 13:07

Charleypop - i think i have bored people to detah before with my job but just in case anyone is still awake, i make/am trying to make a bone cement for use in medical procedures. You can use it too fill holes in bone, stick things too bone and stick bone back together. So kinda of bone glue. But up until now we've just had one problem after an other. but last week i did one last ditch attempt to make it work and now it does, and it sets properly, it doesn't seem to dissolve and the big brucey bonus today is that it hasn't killed the cells i put onto it! the big bummer is that now all i want to do is to produce a bigger batch of cement and do all the other tests, but it would take me at least three weeks to get the primary components made without even starting on turning them into useable powders, so it will all have to wait until i get back.

Katz, we took DS to Chester Zoo at Easter, only took us about an hour and a half from Leeds. It's massive, but was very busy when we went. DS loved it, but he was more keen on the mono-rail than the animals.

What are you having done on the house Lua?

katzguk · 18/04/2005 13:43

thanks for that, hadn't realised how close it was, want to take DD to a proper Zoo and was thinking might do before baby comes once i'm on maternity leave.

AA route planner recons 1hr 30 mins from sheffield so doable in a day

OP posts:
charleypops · 18/04/2005 13:48

oh good - I won't stress about Pod's clothing then! sounds like I won't be weird after all if I just stick to plain white babygrows for the first few months then.

Those drawstring bag things sound handy - could you use them as a summer weight sleeping bag thing do you think? Those popper or tie vests sound good too - not seen any yet. I have seen babies wail though when you try to get their little heads through neck holes, so I'll definitely be avoiding pull on anythings.

Lua - it's all grey where you are - sun's just come out here so I think I'll attmept some LOOONG overdue gardening.

Katz - bone glue must be such a big international deal - wouldn't that kind of research make you a professor? or are you already one? can blood and the other stuff that move through the marrow get through it? Your company must LOVE you! I want my legs extending by about 3 inches if btw if you'd like a human guinea pig! Thanks for those links - I'll have a good look at them when I've finished gardening (ie in about 4 mins I should think!

Are vests also known as bodysuits?

welshmum · 18/04/2005 14:12

Yes charley - a vest is a bodysuit - it's a minefield isn't it

teabelly · 18/04/2005 14:12

Charley - yep, and you can get sleeveless ones, long sleeved or cap sleeved...just to make it more fun when trying to get them dressed Actually most of the over head vests have an envelope type opening so they open quite wide and are relatively easy to get over a little ones head - anyway after a week you'll be a seasoned pro and won't worry about it!

Katz you're job sounds great - it'd be so nice to be able to know I'd made a difference like that to people's lives...instead of boring number crunching making some fat cat's purse bigger...maybe this redundancy thing could be a turning point in my career...hmmmm then again probably not - far to old now to think about retraining...and not disciplined enough to start studying all over again , will just have to find another job that involves sitting on my lardy arse typing numbers into a calculator all day

katzguk · 18/04/2005 14:22

charley - i do research within the university, so i set my own pace for doing the work. i have to say i do love my job its great fun, although when everything goes wrong its a bit of a pain!! The big disadvantage of working at the uni though is that its just a 2 year contract which now finishes next year and i have to hope that we can get some more fudning to continue. i'd love to be a prof and in the states i think i would be one!! but not here!

yep bodysuits are vests as are onesey i think!!

Is anyone else experiencing 'rib flaring' now? I get a really sore back just under my shoulder blades - sometimes during the day but especially at night after a few hours kip. It gets really sore - any thoughts? cures?
(that's on top of the 'do you mind if I spend my afternoon with my foot in your ribs mum....')
