Glad you're feeling a bit better SMS hopefully you'll have a better night's sleep, and things will be even brighter in the morning.

Has the doctor called, yet herby? Make sure you are forceful about being seen, if you're worried, otherwise you will all have a bad night. Are you still within the time to call the labour ward?

MS Thanks, but the jiffy bag seems to have got lost in the post - maybe Swampy has swiped it?

I'm hoping we have another good night as we've got a busy day tomorrow. John's working, but I'm taking Meredith to church for the first time, and then my brother and his family are coming to meet her. It will be lovely, but not sure I can handle my brother being an arse, my sister in law being a moody bitch and my niece being worse than her mum (all 3 of which are odds on to happen) without John. Hoping my lovely nephews will buffer the rest of their family!

PinkTulips · 28/02/2009 21:32

coco..... ignore the mw about the nipple confusion, when aaron was having a bf after he had his first bottle of ebm in scbu i mentioned to the nurse 'well it doesn't seem to have affected his latch' and she said that in all her years there she's never found it to be the case that it does. all the bf babies there get bottles of ebm when their mothers aren't there and she couldn't think of a single time it had caused problems with latch, same went for using dummies.

as for the sore nipples... they do toughen up quickly and the more you feed the quicker they do so, with dd i was in agony (when she puked due to the reflux it was often pink with blood she'd swallowed) but within about 2/3 weeks they were totally healed, and due to the reflux she fed incessantly, i rarely got more than an hour between feeds and feeds could be hours long due to her puking up so much of the milk that she'd need to keep feeding to get full. lansinoh was my saviour! you might be better off using nipple shields on the bleeding side to protect it as the pump can be very harsh and might actually be worsening the cracks.

aaron was a star at the party... slept the whole drive there icluding a sidetrip to buy the birthday boy his pressies, slept for the couple of hours we were at our friends beforehand despite the 5 screeching toddlers ramming toys into the carseat and 'cuddling' him, had a quick feed, was awake for the whole 2 hours at the hall but didn't cry once, was content with a couple of feeds and being held up in our arms then slept the whole way home. he's been a bit grouchy since we've been home and is trying to drain me dry but after being such an angel all day i'm being very forgiving of that!

mrsy.... this stage where they sleep 20 odd hours a day is so short, believe me you miss it when it's gone! if a baby is sleepy they need to sleep, keeping them awake can just result in an overtired hysterical baby and a mommy in the same condition. newborns are facinated by everything and anything, a patch of light on the wall will hold their attention for hours, they don't need anything to specifically stimulate them til they're a bit older. just keep doing what you're doing, watching you and her surroundings is the most beneficial, stimulating and educatioal thing she can be doing for the next few months.

those of you whose babies bellybuttons were bleeding a bit, how long did it go on for? aaron's umbilical was taken off on monday and his bellybutton is still oozing blood

littlesez · 28/02/2009 23:44

dinky lanisoh is being slathered on here! i think its keeping the cracking to a minimum, also got freezable breast pads.

coco I expressed this morning with a view to hubby being able to do at least one feed a day. At least she will have one feed without me crying! Its hard isnt it, but I know how good it is for Isobella and so I am determined to do it.

lbb/sms Hope your ok, I have so much respect for all you ladies with more than one child, I hope things get better for you. Your right its just a bad day, its not you! And toddlers can't be reasoned with like older children hope you find today is better.

I am soooooooooooooooooooo in love I honestly feel like this is my purpose in life, to be a mum to my gorgeous baby xxx

mumoverseas · 01/03/2009 07:04

morning all
congratulations eeekayjay PT size 8??? I was so pleased when I managed to fit/squeeze into a pair of my pre-preg trousers yesterday am (size 14) until sadly they split at the seams by lunchtime (we really do need a 'bugger' emotcion!)

herb sorry your scar is still troubling you. Mine is getting worse too. Yesterday saw the doctor on our compound who has given me antibiotic cream as not sure I should have oral antibiotics yet due to other medication I'm on (clexane due to dvt risk) Dr couldn't make a decision as to whether I should still be injecting either so I've got to go to hospital Tuesday for a decision on that and antibiotics. real pain in arse!

Had a bad day yesterday. Took DD and DS to medical centre to be weighed and DS has lost weight again Will carry on force feeding him my boobies and bottles today as they are going to weigh him again tomorrow.
Then walked to mums and tots then rushed home to feed DD and DS and then took DD to her swimming lesson where she screamed non stop for 30 mins! Rushed home for nap time (sadly not me too) and then rushed down to doctors for my pointless appointment. was told to rest by doctor and nurse due to scar and bleeding which suddenly started again with a vengence early hours of yesterday.
How, just how, am I supposed to find time to rest?

hope everyone has a good sunday x

SomeMightSay · 01/03/2009 07:53

MoS It's crazy isn't it? I won't bother saying try to rest because like you say, how? Hope your scar gets better soon. You CS ladies I think def have it worse than the rest of us.
littlesez Thanx. I'm hopefully meeting some friends today so that'll be nice, although they do have a habit of cancelling so fingers crossed it actually happens!

TOP TIP
For trapped wind and colic pains. I found it in this months Mother and Baby Mag, gave it a try and seems to take the discomfort away and bring up a little wind.

Kneel on floor with baby on your lap facing away from you
Put one arm across his chest and the other arm between his legs resting hand on belly
Raise on knee so foot is on the floor and push yourself to standing position
(I didnt do the above because I'd fall over, I started from standing)
Holding your baby in the above position so he is facing the floor, gently rock from side to side.
This is also supposed to remind them of time in the womb.........

Recommend a go, seems to calm Luke when he's screaming bloody murder!

In a better mood this morning, night wasn't too bad, ds1 woke while I was feeding baby at 11 so I got him up and he fell asleep on sofa straight away so I put him in his cot. Luke fed at 2:30 and settled by 4 and ds1 got up at 5:30.
Just been lounging around this morning, so just doing washes and breakfast now.
Hope you all have a good day. x

mumoverseas · 01/03/2009 08:49

you must have been having cx when pressing the 'post' button dizzy
good luck x

MarkStretch · 01/03/2009 09:11

Gooooo Dizzy!

Quick question- we are going to watch DSD is her dance performance at the theatre today- I am assuming it is ok for us to take DS?!

We have got aisle seats so I can leave if he grizzles, and I can always stick him on the boob.

Her dance troup ranges from 4yrs to teenagers so I guess there will be other families with babies there or am I likely to get thrown out do you think?

DizzyBrummie · 01/03/2009 09:15

I guess that's what happens when you post via a mobile and then refresh the page!!

SomeMightSay · 01/03/2009 09:22

Goodluck Dizzy. x
MS I'd take baby tbh, and if the staff get funny about it, you can explain that your bf, also have an isle seat and you are happy to wait in the lobby area if he starts to distrupt the performance.
Me and dp went to the Britains Got Talent tour at Hammersmith Apollo and there were babies there, I know people to take bf babies to funerals and everything.
I'd go and just see what happens.

Can't remember why I logged on again now. Damn this baby brain!
Oh yeah, the baby hasn't had a poo for over 24 hours, he seems to be straining and quite uncomfortable, I don't think it's wind as we've had some beauties the past 3 feeds, he's going a lovely shade of red and I'm not sure what I can do apart from the leg cycle, belly massage. Any ideas?

MarkStretch · 01/03/2009 09:27

SMS- do you give him any water? With DD I was told to give her some cooled boiled water if she was struggling.

SomeMightSay · 01/03/2009 09:34

Thanx MS I don't give water yet, he's only 3 weeks, but I do remember doing that with ds now you've mentioned it
Will give him a little bit then. Thanx again
Off out now so catch you all later. x

herbgarden · 01/03/2009 09:45

We had a couple of days of 36 hours between pooos and then yesterday she was pooing regularly again - I've heard that the boiled water can shift it too (if they'll take it that is !)....

Lovely doctor called me back from our local emergency line last night (I really didn't know whether it was serious or not as this has never happened before but I felt better to speak to someone) - He looked up my swab results (from a week ago) on his computer and said that yes, I had a " bug" in there which. He faxed a prescription to our 24 hour Tesco Pharmacy and I picked it up half an hour later. Am back in joggy bottoms as everything else is just too sore...My overhang is swollen so I feel hideous .

Calico1 · 01/03/2009 10:59

Quick catch-up whilst DS is out with DH and DD sleeps.

DD has managed to put on 60g in weight - but probably due to formula top-ups so I am going to just BF for the next 48 hours before her next weigh in and see if she continues to gain weight. I think it might be a tough 2 days as she is already getting lazy at the breast and gulps milk from the bottle after an hour on the boob....

PT Lilians cord stump is also oozing blood but midwife said this is normal for a week or so after cord is off.

herb sorry to hear you are feeling rubbish. I overdid it yesterday and my scar is v sore today - I must remember that it is a 6 week recovery but I hate not being able to do stuff.

SMS like the new name!

PinkTulips · 01/03/2009 11:43

thanks calico.... my PHN [HV] is useless so helps to hear what other people's mws say about the bleeding. when she came last week she got all weird and pissy about me bringing him to the gp and said 'well we wouldn't actually be concerned unless it was smelling bad' so basically she would have preferred me to wait til it was actually acutely infected before doing anything rather than getting it treated the second it started to look dodgy.... very helpful!

still in pjs trying to settle aaron for long enough to go have a shower.... the older 2 are attacking their bags of poison lucky bags from the party yesterday and are going hyper and loud so not having much luck. this is the first time in the 7 ears we've been together dp wants to go do some clothes shopping and i can't even get myself dressed, never mind 3 kids ready to go out!

Jelliebaby · 01/03/2009 13:56

Hi all, Not posted for ages due to a sicky pregnancy and now a baby that doesnt seem to stop crying.

MOS - i'm also on Clexane for 6 weeks due to a clot they found after my CS. Do you know if you can drink on it? Ive got to go my best friends 30th next week so was thinking of having a 'few'

My DD is 4 weeks old now and when she is awake she spends alot of time crying, she cant seem to ever be awake and content, even when in her bouncer. is anyone elses baby like that?

Jelliebaby · 01/03/2009 14:07

Would just like to add - Ive read through last couple of pages and soooo glad i'm not alone. I also have a DD who is 3 and not coping as well as i though i would, seems i am normal. Think i need to make more time to read these posts to realise that.

mumoverseas · 01/03/2009 14:38

herby, glad you got hold of the doctor in the end and hope the AB's kick in soon. I know what you mean about the overhang. I'm back in maternity trousers today as I'm so sore.

jelliebaby, bearing in mind I live in a dry country where alcohol is banned I don't think I'm the right person to ask seriously though, I don't think alcohol is a problem on clexane. As its an anticoagulant I can't see how it can be a problem as long as you don't overdo it and get completely sh** faced (ie resulting in you falling over, cutting your head open and bleeding profusely!) I've got to go and do my injection now so I'll read the leaflet in the box and see if it says anything about alcohol.
Where are you injecting? In the UK I was told to inject in the stomach (from 28 weeks pg) but in hospital they did it in my arm which was really very painful, much worse than in the stomach. However, since having DS I've found it so much more painful and have got really bad bruises. Last night it took me 5 attempts to get the needle in properly and I've got lots more bruises today. Have one which is around 2" in diameter that is over 2 weeks old and not fading. Think a bit odd that I've suddenly started bruising when I didn't before baby arrived.

Calico, Harrison is just the same on the feeding front. I've stepped up the b/f the last few days and know he can last for around 20 mins (previously around 10 mins was his maximum) but he still seems to prefer a bottle and gulps at it as if I've not fed him for a week. I'm getting him weighed tomorrow so fingers crossed he has put some weight on.

mumoverseas · 01/03/2009 14:49

jelliebaby, I've just checked the long boring information leaflet with my clexane and it says nothing about not being able to drink so enjoy the party!

However, I've just noticed it says you shouldn't breastfeed if on clexane! FFS! The sodding doctors/nurses at the hospital and my compound medical centre know I'm b/f. what is wrong with the sodding numpties! When I left hospital the twats gave me some painkillers which I discovered having taken for 3 days I shouldn't have been given whilst on Clexane (hence the huge 2+ week old bruises) and the gp confirmed this yesterday.
So, do I not b/f my baby until my hospital appointment on Tuesday or not take my clexane?
Think I'll not take my clexane. At the end of the day, I'm more active now than I have been for the last 5 months what with the SPD etc.

dinkystinky · 01/03/2009 15:46

Morning all. MoS - sorry to hear about your wound hurting again; hope the pain passes soon. And cant believe that about the Clexane - could you call and speak to the labour ward/consultant to check on it?

Herbgarden - sorry to hear your wound is infected again but hurray for the lovely doctor calling you up and getting the prescription to Tesco asap. Hope the drugs do the trick this time.

Jelliebaby - sorry you're having a hard time of it; I think quite a few of us are if it helps any? DS1 was quite a disturbed little baby for the first few weeks (pretty traumatic delivery didnt help) - he needed to be held all the time to be happy, so maybe try slinging your little one and they'll cry less? Also bathing and massaging him calmed him down lots. The other thing that helped with DS1 was taking him to a cranial osteopath which eased the cranial pain he was in - he was a hugely happier baby after it so it was well worth it and by 8 weeks was so much better and liked playing in his babygym etc. Hang on in there - it will get better.

Pink - glad Aaron was such a star at the party; though I find they're always much more hard work when they've been brilliant all day. Hope your evening was ok in the end; and that you managed to make it out to go shopping today with the kids.

Calico, MoS - even bf babies who have had a full feed will guzzle down a bottle as is really easy (compared to bfing) to drink a bottle. Calico - glad to hear L has put on weight; hope its the start of an upwards weightgain for her. And MoS, hope Harrison starts to pile on the weight soon.

Took DS1 and DS2 to DH's best mate's house yesterday afternoon which was lovely (DS2 slept most of the way there, while we were there and back and therefore was awake and feeding much more than usual last night and DS1 and their oldest son are similar ages so had a great time playing together) but DS1 seems to have yet another bloody cold again now and is being really clingy and tearful. Here's hoping this cold doesnt last too long!

dinkystinky · 01/03/2009 15:47

P.s. Dizzybrummie - how exciting! Good luck.

DizzyBrummie · 01/03/2009 16:35
