MrsY - if you can get to a pharmacy, you could get Spatone or Floradix to help with your iron levels (have it with orange juice as helps iron absorption) until you get your replacement iron tablets from GP. My friends from my antenatal group last time round who had iron level issues swore by both Floradix and Spatone (and dried apricots too)as they found the iron tablets could make them a bit constipated.

We looked at the recaro car seat when we had DS1 (as good fit for our mini cooper) but ended up getting a maxi cosi cabrio car seat in the end as went with the quinny travel system we got...The recaros look v smart and arent too heavy though so sounds like a good choice.

Heylittlelady · 24/02/2009 21:00

Thanks so much for all the welcomes!

It's hard work (but great), learning how to deal with a tiny baby especially now DH is back at work and I have to fly solo all day. Harder than I thought it would be, but also better than I thought too

lardybump · 24/02/2009 21:22

Evening all. Hope you are all well...

I am going through the crying stage at the moment..... I think my milk is on the way in or something..... Owen has Jaundise quite badly so am trying to feed him as much as possiable but he is still being very sick so it is a bit of a worry. MW said that they are going to keep an eye on him but try not to worry..... Dr has given me stronger pain killers as my stitches are killing me.. Never hurt this much when I was cut last time... ouch....

I have been to the chemist today and am taking dd out to soft play tomorrow.... Cant remember when I started going out and about last time around... Cant believe that he is 3 days old already.......

MrsY · 24/02/2009 21:32

dinky - we have some saptone (completly forgot about it - baby brain!!)

Heylittlelady - add yourself to the latest list. I'm without my husband tomorrow, but I do have my sister (though she's more of a baby than my two week old!)

Questionkid · 24/02/2009 21:44

LMN & Heylittlelady - thanks for the info about the c-section wound. My GP did mumble something about a haematoma and it being something that was ok, but he didn't explain that it could dissolve by itself (and me being a rubbish person who doesn't ask the right questions at the right time I didn't ask anything more) so it's good to hear that it could.

I'm still a little worried about infection of the wound itself though. The GP was completely happy with it, but I'm worried that I'm still pretty sore.

Can I ask other c-sectioners, how sore are you still? Mine doesn't hurt until I get up or walk around, and then it just generally feels a bit sore. Not horribly so, manageable, but definitely sore. Is that the same for everyone, or should I be going back to the GP? (It's now 2 and a half weeks since I had the c-section.)

Questionkid · 24/02/2009 21:46

Forgot to say, more babies - so exciting! Congrats everyone!!

Questionkid · 24/02/2009 21:51

Look at me with my triple posting - I forgot to ask another question! DP rang our car insurance company today and it turns out they don't have a policy as far as c-sections are concerned and are happy for me to drive. I don't suppose there's any reason why I shouldn't is there? Life would be much easier for me if I could drive and not have to rely completely on DP, specially as he goes back to work this weekend. Would the other c-sectioners be happy to get behind the wheel now?

lardybump · 24/02/2009 21:53

I would say that if you can do an emergancy stop then it is ok. However if you can not due to scar then dont drive..... I think that is the issue if I remember correcly

swampster · 24/02/2009 22:18

QK, my wound (love that word!) is still quite sore. It was MUCH more painful in the early days that it was with the last two. I feel much more achy and a bit like a train crash. But then I am an ancient crone now. Midwife muttered something about nerves growing back together [?] and all the scar tissue they would have had to remove. It's all glamour, my life!

LittleMissNorty · 24/02/2009 22:18

I'm 3 weeks post c-section....still a little sore...mainly at the end of the day, and am back driving as well . I'm safer driving now than at 38 weeks pg IMO....

rosieposey · 24/02/2009 22:51

Hello all

Havent posted in aaagess! Sorry its been a bit of a blur sleepwise and i have had some trouble catching up on all of the posts. Firstly can i say congratulations to all those that have delivered that i have missed - i have been checking in here and there just not really had much time to post. Also sorry about the couple of traumatic birth stories that i read - and mamagoose so sorry to hear about your drama with the retained placenta

Had lovely DH home here with me for Milo's first weeks and he is going back to work next week so will really miss him. Milo is lovely but putting on weight quite slowly. I am mixed feeding him as struggling a bit with the bf ing but he is getting the majority of my milk albeit expressed. I have had an infected wound for 9 days now which i have nearly finished my course of antibiotics but think i might need some more. Have had some real probs with my iron levels as well so sympathies here for those of you who are too. I too was advised to take three iron tablets a day with orange juice but my GP told me that the most my body would be able to absorb is two a day (this was a while ago) but i took all three on the advice of my midwife and ended up with the worlds worst constipation so ive just stopped taking them as will end up with some real probs otherwise. My iron levels were 10 so need to come up a fair bit but i think i am going to rely on iron rich foods and floradix from now on as like i said the three pregaday i was taking were vicious and i was in agony trying to go to the loo!

Will be three weeks post section myself on Friday but still bleeding. I was told by midwife too if i stopped taking iron i was more likely to bleed for longer as my blood was going to be thinner so im kind of expecting that but it does come and go and i dont remember it being this long the last time i gave birth - i thought there was supposed to be less loss with a cs?

Anyone else still got sore tummy - the skin on mine is still very sensitive and if i walk around for too long - a couple of hours or something it really hurts and aches?

DH is insisting i dont drive still but i will get back in the saddle next week when he returns to work so to speak.

There are some really lovely names on the thread - i am just going to readjust it as its got Milos birthweight wrong and he has an extra middle name now too ( my mum asked for William after her dad when we registered him ).

Will try and keep up a bit more now - Just wish i wasnt soooo tired! Hope everyone else is alright in the grand scheme of things and good luck to you ladies waiting to deliver - not long left of February now!

littleboysblue · 24/02/2009 23:03

Hi. I typed out a message earlier and ds1 hit the power button before I could post.

Just want to post this and will then attempt to catch up on the day but just fed Luke, so might read half, go to bed, and catch up properly tomoz.

I have a thing that I don't really want to discuss in RL.
For the past week or 2 I have been really itchy all over. Every inch of my body litterally from hed to toe itches constantly and when I scratch my skin looks like I've crawled through stinging nettles, you know that horrible white bumpy rash? The insides of my hands hurt (not the underside, the actual insides, I still have a bad ache and burn from where they put my AB's drip in, but it's almost like my veins are too hot if that makes any sense.
I haven't changed washing powder or any other cleaning products or soaps etc, to my knowledge not come into contact with anything that I haven't before and don't have any allergies that I know of, so what is it?

Me and dp took boys into town on bus today. Was nice being out and not at hospital or tescos!

rosieposey · 24/02/2009 23:25

Just quickly about the iron thing - read back a couple of pages (trying to catch up and skimming the last 15 pages or so) and saw that Pluto had put that her iron count was usually 10 but had gone down to 8 - i was told mine had dropped to 10 but was usually 20 - does anyone know if its different levels for different people? Just wondered because of the bleeding thing that i am still having and also my reluctance to take the three pregaday that i was told to take? Anyone know anything about iron levels?

littleboysblue · 24/02/2009 23:38

This is me catching up then.

KT Put Poppy in a baby bouncy chair or moses basket and take her into bathroom with you. I did that with ds1 until he was about 11 months as was in a house, when moved to flat (all 1 floor) I strapped him in chair in front of the telly. Now baby is in basket behind the gate across the kitchen and ds1 has run of flat and I leave bathroom door open.
LMN Hope ds is ok now, that does sound very scary.
Calico Lilian is so cute! Both your dc's are
fruitsticks Big congrats on baby Arthur
herb Luke does that mad search for food after he's been fed too and headbutts me, it def is wind. When we were at my dad's the other day, one of his neighbours popped in with pressie for Luke and wanted a hug (with him) and she kept telling me he was hungry coz he was doing that crazy flying head around suckling stuff and I told her no, it's wind, she didn't think so, but it was. I've been told you (not you personally but us I suppose) have to be careful not to confuse wind with hunger.
Calico Really hope the bf improves and you don't have to go back to hospital
Hll Glad it's all going well. It does get easier once things settle down a bit and you've had time to adjust.
lardy Take it easy for your stitches sake, although I know that's not so easy with another child in tow! For the jaundice, I was told by mw to have Luke by the window as much as poss along with 3 hourly feeding
rosie Can't help on the iron, sorry. I was given iron tabs after ds1 was born but I didn't take them

littleboysblue · 25/02/2009 02:52

Now the wrist on the hand that AB's went into is swollen, is bright white, feels red hot and is really itchy! Is it connected?

littleboysblue · 25/02/2009 08:21

Morning. Going drs today, see what he think about skin issue.
I'm sure I'm just being silly, but I'm very uncomfortable. I'm going to ask them to melt me down and re-build me!

nkweto · 25/02/2009 08:36

Yes lbb.. go to the drs. and get them to check you out.. make sure they know about all the various issues you have had recently.

big hugs to you ...x

KT1983 · 25/02/2009 08:49

Morning ladies,

So yesterday wasnt as traumatic as I thought it would be - I managed to get the shower in, probably the quickest shower in history, but I did like you all said, I put her in the bouncey chair & bought her in to the bathroom with me( Thanks for the advice ) She was just fine, I put that down to having a full tummy at the time

I also wanted to ask you all...
Poppy seems to have alot of mucus it tends to be more at night & is really noisy. Most of the time at night its that noise that keeps me awake rather than her crying etc.
Should I ask the midwife or HV about it? Is it something that will go? It seems she struggles with it

MrsY · 25/02/2009 08:50

lbb - hope the GP can help.

rosie when I was discharged I was told my iron levels were 7.2, and should be over 12 - don't know if that's connected to age or other health issues (like your diabetes). Maybe 12 is the minimum and 20 is the ideal?

John has gone to work, so until my sister gets here it's just the two of us, and it's not going too badly, but madam has woken up so I'll finish catching up later...

scubagroover · 25/02/2009 08:50

Congratulations to everyone who has had their babies so far and I feel for everyone else who hasn't. I've been lurking just not posting.

Baby was due on 17th but nothing happening, waters broke yesterday lunchtime and although had contractions through the night getting to regular 10 minute intervals lasting about 30 secs they died about 4.30 or 5 so going in later to be started on a drip. Hopefully will be able to post re new arrival soon.

KT1983 · 25/02/2009 08:54

lbb Hope the docs can give you something to help with the itching.

Mrsy Good luck for your first day at home with Merry. am sure you will be just fine. good that you have your sister & mum there to help you out a bit x

Herb I wondered what poppy was doing when she bangs her head around on my shoulder...Iv probably made the huge mistake of thinkin she is hungry & giveing her more bottle
I will try more winding/buriping from now on - although it seems to take forver with her....I worry that im doing it wrong.

littleboysblue · 25/02/2009 09:19

KT Glad you got your shower ok, so that's one task that you've cracked already.
About the mucus stuff, if it concerns you, then you should speak to your hv, that's what they're there for. Doesn't matter how small you think it might be, or if you think you're over reacting etc, if you're worried, get some advice. You should have seen me at clinic every week with ds1 without fail!
MrsY Hope you have a good day.
scubagroover Goodluck this afternoon then, hope all goes nice and quick, make sure you get on here when you're back home and let us know how it all went.
KT I'm sure you're not doing the winding wrong, I got a bit frustrated yesterday and asked dp if I was doing it wrong.......Luke takes ages to wind, but so did ds1, nightmare. Luke is now on dentinox colic drops that go straight in the bottle or can be given after the feed to help with wind and griping pains. We did try infacol, but it's is quite strong smelling and Luke (and Jacob) didn't get on too well with it.
Also are you bf or ff? If ff, warm the milk as that helps the wind come up easier (lots of people give room temp which is fine, but warm helps stubborn wind). Also, their back needs to be straight so I sit Luke on my lap with my hand under his arm but thumb and index finger holding his face up, and I press my other hand vertically up his back so he is dead straight and gently bounce my knee, normally get something then. I do that after the whole rubbing and patting as not sure if the bouncing too soon would make him sick?

littleboysblue · 25/02/2009 09:23

Also, I tip him from my knee too, I do backwards just to the point where his hips are higher than his head and gently sit him up tipping right forward, then back straight and side to side to the point where he is being held horizontal, just for a few seconds to dislodge any wind that's trapped. You might then be able to hear and feel it better. I did this yesterday in McD's, did get a few funny looks, but I'll do whatever works (within reason).

herbgarden · 25/02/2009 09:44

Hi all
Just quickly - in laws arriving soon !

KT - I also find she can be tired when she's bobbing her head around on my shoulder with her mouth open. If I've fed her in the last hour or so then I don't feed her again particularly if she's had a good feed. If I calm her down and put her down for napping and she goes then she prob was tired, if she doesn't and starts up I give her a good wind and if she burps and then nods off then that was prob it, if she then won't go then I might give her a bit more feed. If none of the above work, I swear in frustration and plod around the room with her screaming over my shoulder for a while longer .

On the mucus thing - DD had a lot of mucus to begin with and frequently sicked up lots particularly in the night. I would put a folder over sheet over her sheet so that I could change it easily if very wet. It didn't seem to bother her that much but as lbb says, ask HV.

DD def has a cold. Last night was hideous - she was snorting like she couldn't breathe when laid on her back and it clearly scared her something horrible- she then screamed through her snorty choking thing. She wouldn't go back after being fed at 1am and at 2.45am I was screaming at DH as DS had also woken telling him that if I had one more night without sleeping from 1am onwards I'd soon be [checking myself] in[to] the nut house .

My c-section wound is still very sensitive nearly 5 weeks after my op. The nerve endings are tender and I have pulling sort of pains on one side. I am on my second course of anti-b's....I am hoping this is it. LBB and I also asked insurance co's re driving and our insurance co's said that if the doc says you're fit to drive then you're ok. Doc says ask insurance co

lbb- hope you get your itchiness thing sorted - sounds really uncomfortable. Perhaps dinky might have a magic remedy up her sleeve for you - dinky are you sure you're in the right career ???
