Morning all. Typing with Danny draped over one shoulder (good look!) so excuse typos.

THOM - good luck. Sounds like what I had for 4 days but i put it down as a show rather than waters leaking as was just little bits - then when waters went I knew as there was so much and it was all clear. Hope all happening for you - Cx kicked in an hour after waters went and you know the rest.

Fruitstick - sounds like early part of labour - good luck.

Ranirani - I was induced with DS1. If you have epidural at beginning before having drip you will avoid the pain BUT will take longer to get to full dilation and you'll probably need more top ups (as the epi wears off) so will be harder to feel to push out the baby and you'll end up on your back (as wont be able to feel your legs to change to better delivery position). If you can wait until at least 4 cm before having epi (as I did) will all hopefully happen quicker for you.

littlesez · 18/02/2009 10:22

rani you sound really down hope your ok, It's my first too and worried about induction. Only 3 days overdue at the mo and booked in for sweep on Sunday. Don't want it at all just because i am a complete mard arse and tend to cry at anything. My mum said it can be quite effective and might then avoid induction. Heard different stories about whether sweep hurts but most people said its just uncomfortable.

I feel like I have a really low pain threshold but i think women really suprise themselves in labour, its just a completely unique experience. Keep posting on here to update, loads of people on to give advise xx

MarkStretch · 18/02/2009 10:40

Someone could have reminded me that newborns don't sleep....

Coffee anyone?

LittleMissNorty · 18/02/2009 10:47

Hello everyone.....had a huge catch-up to do....

LBB I am totally with you on bonding with 2nd DC over the first. TBH when I was pg the first time, I spent my time enjoying buying everything and being pregnant and not really focussing or understanding there was going to be a baby at the end of it IYKWIM and bonding took a little while....it just happened over a period of time rather than a "rush of love". This time however, I had an awful pregnancy but really focussed on what I was getting at the end of it, and I definitely bonded so much more quickly....especially as I know there won't be any more babies and I need to make the most of every minute I have of DS as a newborn. I have had a bit of "second baby syndrome" here as well (no visitors either in hospital or here other than immediate family) which has meant I'm not as knackered, but also has made me fiercely protective of DS....he is just as important and DD.....

BTW LBB - I use infacol and have done since 2 days old.....I have bottles of it all over the house!

QK Sounds like a really traumatic time you had.....hope you get some counselling and I hope you are recovering ok after your unplanned CS....sounds like a nightmare. It does get easier.....are you sleeping when DS sleeps....things seem so much better if you've managed some sleep. My DS has a cold atm (at 2 weeks old!) and is also struggling to feed without choking.....and it is very scary. I give him frequent breaks to help him breathe...and keep the milk inside his tummy rather than spewing it all over me.

Congratulations to all those new mummies since I last posted.....wow Pluto 10lb 10oz......

My DH went back to work this week so have been getting used to dealing with 2 on my own.....unfortunately, DD has got a D&V bug and DS has 2 sticky eyes (and is on antibiotic eyedrops for them), a cold (all I can do is saline drops and tissues up the nose) and constipation (cooled boiled water).....how I haven't managed to transfer infections between them I don't know.......all I done yesterday was change bums, some runny, some rock solid, bathe eyes and poke tissues up nostrils!
Right, off to bed for an hour....my only opportunity of the day when both are asleep.....

dinkystinky · 18/02/2009 10:56

Rani, LittleSez - if you can afford it, try out accupuncture or reflexology to kickstart labour if your bodies are ready for it. I definitely believe that baby wont come until baby is ready to, but if baby is nearly ready, these things can help kickstart - you may need a few sessions so worth checking out places available in your area.

I had 3 stretch and sweeps with DS1 (and was already 2cm before they induced me so went straight onto ARM and drip) and believe me, they're no worse than having a smear test done (and I hate those - have to have the smallest speculum etc).

I have to admit, I managed 3 hours on the drip without any pain relief thanks to the wonderful midwife I had when my induction started (who, even though was hooked up to a monitor, let me move around, listen to music, chill out and enjoy things); it was only when shifts changed and I got the midwife from the medieval ages that things went down hill and I had to ask for an epidural. I've read plenty of positive induction stories - and even have a few friends who have had good inductions which were quick, calm and peaceful (and 2 of them didnt even need anything more than gas and air to get them through it and just had the gel and no drip) so, as long as everything stays straightforward, its nothing to worry about. These are your first babies - they are often late; try not to focus on the fact you're late (EDD's are just estimates) and enjoy those lie ins, movies, lunch dates etc while you can - your little ones will be with you REALLY soon.

LBB - sorry to hear Luke had such awful wind last night: sounds horrible. Hope you're ok and he's much better today. Good luck registering his name; it's a lovely name and am sure it will feel much more like HIS name (if you see what I mean) when you've made it official.

dinkystinky · 18/02/2009 10:58

Oh good luck for tomorrow Calico - fingers crossed your little one stays put till the ELCS.

Definitely serve a takeaway to your inlaws!!

dinkystinky · 18/02/2009 11:01

Final post of the morning, I promise (keep posting then remembering something else I meant to say)..

Pink - glad Aaron has been given the all clear - and hurrah for managing with 3 on your own for the first time!!

LMN - god, it sounds horribly hectic in your house; enjoy that well deserved nap! Am hoping the fact that our little ones are having colds now means their immune systems are about to kick in properly...

dinkystinky · 18/02/2009 11:03

I lied - one more post. MS - I'll take that coffee and give you a chocolate hobnob in exchange (happy hormones from chocolate only way to get through sleep deprivation IMO )

Right off for a walk with DH and DS2 and a haircut...

ihavenewsockson · 18/02/2009 11:09

Goodness- this has moved on alot since i was lsat here!!

Congrats to all who have their little ones, and commiserations to the rest of us who are still waddling and getting fed up of it!

ihavenewsockson · 18/02/2009 11:24

Which fB group are we?
I found a MN Feb 09 one but it's only coming up with one member?

Pempe · 18/02/2009 11:31

Hi everyone, just checking in, absolutely no time still to read all your posts whoever said that newborns spend 18 hours a day sleeping must have been a raving lunatic, mine sleeps for about a tenth of that. Luckily he seems to be content just chilling and looking around at stuff - or being winded, which takes hooouuuurrrrs. My god.

Also wanted to record the fact that yesterday was the first day since the birth that I did not cry not even once. Or today (yet).

Hope you are all ok and enjoying your bundles of joy/last joyous stages of pregnancy

pinkbabybump · 18/02/2009 11:38

Hi everyone, I have my pre-op this afternoon and wondered if anyone can tell me what they will do to me? I am such a wuss, I'm trying really hard not to even think about my section on Friday .
Congratulations to all the ladies who have their lovely newborns, some gorgeous names and pics. Good luck to everyone still waiting - not long for any of us now !!!

swampster · 18/02/2009 11:48

Pempe

ihavenewsockson, it is a secret group! Email me swampster at rocketmail dot com, I can find you on FB, friend you, invite you to join...

DizzyBrummie · 18/02/2009 11:48

Congratulations to the ladies with new babies, I'm very jealous.

Pinkbabybump - can't help with the pre-op stuff but please don't worry about the CS, I had one with DS and it was fine, the worst thing was the anaesthetic

Chilledmamma - thanks for the link re the induction. I had a CS last time and I'm due tomorrow with no signs of this little one coming of it's own accord.

Does anyone know what the conditions need to be for them to try to break my waters also with a previous CS will they give me anything else to induce me?

swampster · 18/02/2009 11:51

pinkbabybump, my pre-op was a non-event as the person who was supposed to do it wasn't around. All they did was take my blood.

They are also supposed to go through the procedure, get you to sign the consent form, and give you the antacid for you to take the night before. And remind you to shave your furry bits. That's pretty much it.

I just signed the form and the rest on the day.

swampster · 18/02/2009 11:54

DizzyB, they can induce but not quite so rigorously. I refused induction with DS2 though.

DizzyBrummie · 18/02/2009 12:01

Swampster, was there a reason behind you refusing it? I'm worried that this baby is already big (about 9lbs or so) and leaving it longer will just mean it gets bigger (scared off birth as it is . They estimated DS to be in the upper 8's and he was 10lb the next day

Cocodrillo · 18/02/2009 12:06

pinkbabybump I am joining you for a CS on Friday. Just had my pre-op thingummy, they took some blood, I signed a consent form, and they gave me some fetching surgical stockings and some anti-emetics/anti-reflux tablets to take the night before.

swampster · 18/02/2009 12:12

Stonking! I posted about my induction last night if you go back a bit. I just had a bad experience with DS1 with it simply not working.

My waters went the day before my CS was booked for DS2 and I went in for monitoring. After a bit, when nothing more than one massive contraction was happening every half hour, the doc said he was sending me to be induced.

Me: you haven't read my notes have you, I'm in the home-from-home unit.

Well, he knew the home-from-home wouldn't want me, couldn't send me home, but once he'd read my notes he did come back and say he agreed I shouldn't be induced. There was nothing for it but let me on to the home-from-home after all . So I got 24 hours of trying for the birth I wanted before having another CS.

pinkbabybump · 18/02/2009 12:26

Thanks Dizzy and Swampster
Cocodrillo - very real now this having a baby marlarkey isn't it , I am so glad that I have had a date to look forward to rather than not knowing when she was arriving . Good luck for Friday

mumoverseas · 18/02/2009 12:52

congratulations kazza, pluto and america herbgarden, sorry to hear you are so tired. We had a few nights like that but as Dinky said, you need to try to get as much rest as possible when your DS is at nursery.

catstar shocked at your sister letting you down, hope you manage to get something sorted asap.

calico good luck with your CS. Is it today or tomorrow?

Poor little man is still full of a cold and now one of his eyes is all gunky and he is having trouble opening it. Its just not fair when they are so little and clearly not feeling well Thank god its our weekend from this evening so DH will be home from work soon and hopefully help out a bit

katieblirdsnest · 18/02/2009 12:54

Congratulations to ALL those with new babies on here, sorry to those that had a traumatic time of it and hope you're all coping with tiredness etc.

I'm only just starting to get fed up of not having the baby yet. I had high blood sugar earlier in the pregnancy so have been eating very carefully in the last couple of months, no sugary foods, little fruit, 'good' carbs etc but yesterday had a day at home on my own...went to supermarket and bought all sorts of crap including bung them in the oven roast potatoes! trying not to feel too rubbish but really can't understand why I had to binge...probably felt i in some way deserved it! oh well, back to soup and veg!

herbgarden · 18/02/2009 13:19

I went through a stage like that katie - I think it's partly boredom of just waiting..... I was a bit addicted to those Haribo sweets. Now DD is here though although I'm not eating as much although I can't seem to lay off the chocolate - I "hide" it in the top shelf of the kitchen cupboard (only 5"2 so I have to use a stool to get to it!).

lmn - sorry to hear of all the bugs in your house. We've had sticky eyes here too - and lots of bogey filled noses (DS and DD) - but the D&V for you is not nice at all. Hope the handling 2 is working out ok. I'm just getting in the swing of it here with the 2. I find the best policy is not to attempt too much and I put DD into her cot upstairs at all "nappping" opportunities so that DS can't poke/fall over her (he's clumsy as he charges around everywhere - walk does not feature in his life). My mum popped over this morning so I could take DS to the soft play place for a bit of DS and Mummy time and she stayed with DD watching the telly with a cup of coffee . It was lovely to spend time with DS although I could have done with sit down and a cuppa in front of the telly .

Anyone know whether it's ok to give gripe water after milk if you've given Infacol before milk ? I think I remember doing it with DS. I've bought some ready for DD at a month old but I remember it was brilliant for getting those burps up.

All peaceful in the herb house last night. DD made it to nearly 2am and then I fed her at 6am with a bit of sleep in between. DH and DS both had a very good night's sleep

Right, off to do jobs - DS watching Fireman Sam...again.....

thehouseofmirth · 18/02/2009 13:58

Still here... went in this morning to be checked. MW thinks it was not my waters, though if it wasn't it's the most watery discharge in the history of watery discharge. She could stretch me to 2cm so something's happening very, very slowly. Still having contractions about 5-10 mins apart but only lasting 30 secs. I had forgotten how much they can hurt. Damn! A bit of bleeding since the internal.

I'm finding all the uncertainty really hard this time. With DS1 contractions started, got worse & (eventually) I had a baby. This is weird and also makes planning for DS1 really hard. Have got appt with consultant tomorrow to talk about section if this does't progress. Am not, not, not being induced! Also have scan on Friday. Hoping I don't need to keep either appointment, not least because I hadn't before thought through the implications of getting there when I am the only driver in the family!
