Are they going to put you on drip straight away? They started my induction at 10am and at 8pm said if I still wasn't progressing by midnight, they'd hook me up

littleboysblue · 17/02/2009 22:41

rani they did tell me too, thinking about it, that I would have to have epidural if they used the drip, but I hate needles so told them at consultation that I didn't want one.
I am really bad with pain too, I have such a low threshold for it, but the thought of an injection is worse for me, but that's because they hurt , I cry at bloodtests, even if they use the baby needle lol
Nobody told me they'd use a local anesthetic first........

swampster · 17/02/2009 22:41

Rani rani, I haven't posted as I can't say anything positive about induction. I am not a fan of being induced. I was after a natural birth, preferably in water when I had DS1. He was two weeks late so I agreed to be induced... It was long and painful and progressively more agressive: we'll just give you these prostin gels and that will probably start it... have some more gels... let's break your waters with this hook thing... time for the drip... just a little bit of syntocynon should do the trick...

By the end, 24 hours later, the drip was ratcheted up as high as it could be (well it seemed that way), I was 4cm dilated, and my baby was in distress. A conversation about my impending section suddenly became urgent and within 10 minutes of that, we were in theatre and DS1 was pulled out with his cord round his neck twice.

DS2 was supposed to be a VBAC - they wanted to induce me again but I pointed out that they had thrown every weapon in their arsenal at me last time and it hadn't worked - and I wound up with another emergency CS (though not an urgent emergency this time), hence DS3 was an elective CS.

littleboysblue · 17/02/2009 22:42

swampy sounds awful!

chilledmama · 17/02/2009 22:43

Ranirani- Try this link NICE guidance on induction

thehouseofmirth · 17/02/2009 22:45

I rang and they "advised" me to go in which is standard procedure but told them I'd hang on until morning. Don't fancy taxi there and back on my own as DH would have to stay here with DS. Going to take my temp now, just in case, then going to bed to (hopefully) get some rest...

littleboysblue · 17/02/2009 22:47

thom Goodluck, hope you manage to get some rest. Take care. xxx

swampster · 17/02/2009 22:47

And I did have an epidural about 18 hours in when I finally realised that my whole birth experience had already deviated so far from the original plan that it really didn't make a blind bit of difference and I didn't have to put up with the pain. It was lovely. After it I had a nice nap.

swampster · 17/02/2009 22:49

LBB, it is the end result that matters - I got the most marvellous little baby out of it so it was well worth the aggro.

littleboysblue · 17/02/2009 22:50

at your epidural swamps.

littleboysblue · 17/02/2009 22:51

Oh, absolutely swampster all here safe and sound is what matters, but sounds like it was awfully traumatic is all.

swampster · 17/02/2009 22:52

Sleep well, thom.

fruitstick · 17/02/2009 22:53

Have posted in Childbirth but will do here too. Am having fairly regular contractions (every few minutes) but they are fairly mild (well, I'm being brave but I can still type through them) and all in what feels like my cervix and under the bump (and my arse for some strange reason).

Are these BH or the real thing do you reckon? If your contractions start off at 4 mins apart how do you know when you need to go to hospital?

This happened last time and I was sent home 3 times . Can't remember what the contractions actually felt like though.

Am due tomorrow.

swampster · 17/02/2009 22:54

Awww LBB , the epidural was essential in te end for the CS - I just wish I had had it earlier.

chilledmama · 17/02/2009 22:56

THOM-make sure you take a couple of paracetamol before bed...it'll help take the edge off cxns and help you get a better quality sleep.

Rani-If you have questions or need more info please just come back with them...there's loads of experience on here.

littleboysblue · 17/02/2009 22:57

I liked the spinal block I had first time, it was instant. I think I may have told drug man I was in love with him
fruit Goodluck

swampster · 17/02/2009 23:46

Any change, fruitstick?

lardybump · 18/02/2009 07:57

Morning everyone. Hope you are all well...

Goodluck Fruit and THOM I hope you are well on your way by now......

Nothing to report here. No pains at all now... I am having my S&S tomorrow so hope tthat moves me on. If not I am being induced the following week.........

DD was early so was kind of hoping that I would go early this time as well.... silly me....

chilledmama · 18/02/2009 08:05

know that feeling Lardy!!! I'd popped an 8lbs 6oz baby over a week ago last time!!! SO FRUSTRATING

Cocodrillo · 18/02/2009 08:08

Cooked the DCs pancakes last night.

Then realised it wasn't pancake day.

Baby brain.

Off for my pre-op appointment in a roly mo. Does this mean I'm going to have a baby?

Will catch up later...

lardybump · 18/02/2009 08:10

DD was 8lb 4 chilled and early so am expecting a heavy weight this time!!!!! We will give birth eventually though wont we??? Starting to wonder now...

chilledmama · 18/02/2009 08:43

can't induce breech so i have an appoinment at 40 +1 to book ELCS and it loking more and more likely all the bloody time

littleboysblue · 18/02/2009 09:25

Morning all.
rani Goodluck with mw today......sorry if I upset you last night, I think I came across sounding a bit more harsh than I intended
thom and Fruitsticks Hope you both have your baby's now........if not, shake a bloody leg!

We're registering Jerky today, and no diversions this time.
Ds1 is stealing my bourbon's. That's not good is it? For eithr of us.......

I think we're going to have windng probs again I was rubbng, patting, rocking and all the rest of it for nearly an hour and a half post feed last night. Gave him to dp in the end, Luke was screaming and arching his back, he looked like he was in so much pain and I was a bit powerless to stop it.
Think I might get some infacol or colief or something today. Will have to look at labels as can't remember age it's suitable from.

ope everyone else is well

herbgarden · 18/02/2009 09:48

lbb - Infacol from birth - I've been using. DD's wind seems to be getting worse and particularly at night. During the day,she wakes from a nap, I feed her and then she is awake for a while before going down again so she's I suppose more "winded". In the night, you're desperate for sleep, so want a quick burp but I find she feeds, drops off on my shoulder as I'm winding her and then will put her down and the grunting etc then starts......it's a nightmare. We were an hour last night !

Calico1 · 18/02/2009 10:00

Hi all

THOM and Fruit - hope all is going well or babies have already arrived?

I thought I was going into labour last night - lots of painful tightenings - seemed more then BH but not quite enough for contractions. Baby was doing some break-dancing I think. Feel a bit sick this morning so something is up - I only have to last another 24 hours before ELCS. I really don't want to go into labour today and have a mad dash to hosp....

Poor DS is sick too - he was sent home from nursery with a high temp yesterday but they agreed to have him back this morning, thankfully, as I don't feel well enough to look after him today. In-laws arriving this afternoon but I think they are expecting me to cook them dinner tonight . Wonder if I could get away with serving a take-away?

rani - I had a sweep with DS last time - more uncomfortable than painful, so worth a try before anything more 'medical'. Good luck.

Big congratulations to America and WMMC - look forward to details.

Ok signing off now - might be back later tonight for some moral support before CS tomorrow morning!
