The other thread was too long and wouldn't let me add a new message.

I am 8+3 and as my previous m/c's have been at 9 weeks.

OP posts:

Welcome all those who are new.

Big shopping spree today. Got fitted for bras - weirdly have gone from a 36C to a 40B. The Red Herrring at Debenhams maternity range is great - got some brilliant jeans and some lovely tops. Very please - especially cos they had 20% off today.

Had lots of friends round for dinner last night - was lovely waking up with no hangover! Felt very smug towards DH. . Actually finding the no drinking thing very easy, making me think maybe I might stay off afterwards - would be nice to feel the benifits without the morning sickness and the weight gain of pregnancy.

I also measured myself this morning - although its not Tuesday (will do again then) - and I was 8 sheets wide. So that's at 12+6. Wonder how big we'll get! April - think it was you who proposed TPT - how big did people get before?

Relaxing evening in planned for this evening. Anyone doing anything exciting?

erhianj · 07/03/2009 18:30

Ashamed to say the most exiting thing I'm doing this evening is watching total wipeout! Think pregnancy has changed my sense of humour, I laugh 'til I cry watching this at the moment!! That and the icanhazcheezburger website my sis has introduced me to! oh dear....

ScorpiowithabigS · 07/03/2009 18:37

Love to ladylush for her scan tomorrow xx let me know, or email me, or something!

ScorpiowithabigS · 07/03/2009 18:37

tomorrow - i mean Monday! oops

MumGoneCrazy · 07/03/2009 18:45

Erhianj i love total wipeout i laugh until i nearly wet myself

My 2dd's (3 & 2) find it hilarious and they both have very catching laughs so went they start it sets me off for ages they find the big red balls the funniest

erhianj · 07/03/2009 18:55

MumGoneCrazy - lol! the big red balls are the best bit, especially in slow mo, your DDs have very good taste!! am glad it's not just me watching

spats · 07/03/2009 19:06

thanks for the welcome. I am glad others find it difficult to eat, don't remmeber this so much with other 2. I know i went off food but don't remember going round a supermarket and finding nothing i want to eat. I think i may manage some bread and cheese tonight. I posted MS was getting better too earlier. It was back with revenge this afternoon and i am back to chewing gum again - hey ho x

erhianj · 07/03/2009 19:14

spats - not sure if this will help you, but soft white bread, proper butter and cucumber sandwiches are very settling for me, well, for maybe 15 mins anyway! x x

audreyraines · 07/03/2009 19:48

snowfalls, i don't mind not drinking either, although i take a few occassional sips of dh's beer/wine just for the taste.

debenhams is a good tip, i might have a look online as well as really can't brave oxford street ..

a friend of ours is cooking dinner and bringing it over at 8.30! i love friends like that. brilliant!

erhianj, i've never even heard of total wipeout, but i will look for it now. i also love icanhazcheezburger, some of them are just hysterical

re the cucumber sandwich thing - i've had a rule since i was a child that i will happily have cucumber in a sandwich, but under no circumstances should the cucumber be touching the butter. there must be a buffer like lettuce or something else. my mother thought i was crazy for this and now so does my dh. the thought of butter touching cucumber still turns my stomach

spats, i find myself in M&S quite a lot buying the large packs of cut up pineapple. it is one of the few things i really feel like gorging on. i also eat a lot of roasted or grilled artichoke hearts. quite strange i know.

ChutesTooNarrow · 07/03/2009 20:51

Cucumber was about the only thing I could eat for a few days last week. Agree on the sandwich front, it must not touch the butter!

MumGoneCrazy · 07/03/2009 20:51

Ive been finding myself munching on whole raw carrots (peeled and washed 1st of course)
i cant seem to get enough of them i love cucumber as well slice it and eat it on its own

blue76 · 07/03/2009 20:55

why do I have a hankering for pickled onions??? Standing joke in work - all my friends say every time they see me I'm eating....it's the only thing that stops me feeling sick!!
Glad to see everyone in high spirits.

Ladylush, good luck for the scan on monday xx

Kooky, will be thinking of you - I hope all goes well, which no doubt it will xx

blue76 · 07/03/2009 20:58

oh ps...haha...cucumber skin is known to cause heartburn, so beware! I have to slice it off first

audreyraines · 08/03/2009 08:07

blue, i think it's the vinegar taste that helps sometimes. i was a running joke as whenever i visited my friends i would ask for a splash of apple cider vinegar in my water! lemon was ok too, but vinegar much better.

i can eat raw celery. not sure about cucumber though at the moment.

StealthPolarBear · 08/03/2009 08:26

hi everyone

audreyraines · 08/03/2009 08:49

Hi Stealth, how are you going?

lemonmoon · 08/03/2009 09:22

Hi everyone. Haven't posted for a while because I was a bit thrown by the scan result on Friday - basically everything was ok, except that there was no nasal bone, which bumped the risk of down's to 1 in 1000, which I know isn't bad at all, but the sonographer put the wind up us. My midwife had said they wouldn't offer anything invasive unless the risk was higher than 1 in 250 but he went straight from saying the bone was absent to offering cvs. It seemed like it was a terrible thing so we ended up waiting to have a more detailed scan before cvs, except that after talking to the nice consultant we backed out of the cvs.

The consultant said that 1-3% of normal babies have an absent nasal bone, and the risk of down's in my case is only 0.1%. Wish we'd spoken to him three hours earlier. I've also researched it a bit and on the Fetal Medicine website it says:
"The difficulty is when the gestation is 11 weeks or the beginning of the 12th week and the nasal bone is absent but the NT, the other ultrasound markers and the serum biochemistry are normal. In this cases our advice is that the patients are rescanned in one week and action is only taken at that point if there is persistence of the absence of the nasal bone."
I was exactly 12 weeks and everything else was normal. I'm now a bit that they offered an invasive instead of suggesting a repeat scan, but I guess since Harris Birthright is the nhs they have a cut off - limited resources and all that - even though the FMC is run by the same man.

Anyway, we've been talking about going along to the FMC for another scan at the end of the week, but I'm also going to call my midwife on Monday and see what she thinks.

Sorry for such a long post but I'd like to know what you think of my plan of action.

Hope everyone is well today - I'm actually feeling fairly cheery today, although a bit saddened that my appetite has dwindled. I was enjoying stuffing my face but don't fancy anything lately.

erhianj · 08/03/2009 09:43

Sorry you've got this worry lemonmoon, really agree with your plan of action, why go through an invasive when everything else was normal, and a simple re-scan is advised? Your MW will give you more advice, but am sure she will agree with you as well. Let us know how you get on x x

StealthPolarBear · 08/03/2009 09:55

Fine thanks Just never seem to have anything to post and then this drops off threads I'm on! Sorry you're still suffering with sickness - my last was a boy and I had it dreadfully - I craved salad and celery, but they weren't cravings as such, just that was cool and fresh tasting.
lemonmoon - sorry you're having such a worry. It sounds as though, like you say the risks are still small and a repeat scan is definitely the best option. Hope you can get your scan and it's soon!

TigerFeet · 08/03/2009 10:41

Morning all, welcome to the newbies

Lemonmoon I think I'd do exactly as you're doing, here's hoping for a positive result for you.

MS has been better over the past couple of days but I do go through good and bad spells. The ratio seems to be improving though . 13+1 today.

We went to London yesterday, we had a brilliant time (NHM then a walk round some of the landmarks), it was great fun but I was utterly drained by the end of the day. I have had sciatica in the past and I fear it is going to be an increasing pita (fnar - d'ya see what I did there? ) as this pregnancy progresses.

audreyraines · 08/03/2009 14:16

lemonmoon, you're totally right to want another scan first of all. i can't believe they didn't offer it right up. hope it will all turn out to be a silly scare. xx

spats · 08/03/2009 14:17

Thanks for advice on what to try and eat. Actually went to harvester for lunch and managed there salad cart but it had to be drenched in the red sauce. I may be going back everyday as i ate it so quickly as its the first thing i have really fancied in ages and it was good to have proper food going down. Didn't want the main i had really though.

Lemon moon if you hadn't had so many tests for DS you may have had a 1:1000 risk anyway. Imean i had a local one at my hospital and they just do nuchal and i was given a 1:1200 which is low risk. My firends alst year had the same at the same hospital and had 1:800 and 1:1000. Both bubes are fine. I did however go to FMC as well for piece of mind and they upped it to 1:8600, but if i hadn't i would have had the 1:1200 from the hospital and it is the same baby just the number of tests they do increase the odds i guess. I hope you see what i am getting at. Worrying i know and i would be complelety psycho if i had to go what you are going through. With the absence of the bone if they had told me that i would have been worried and would definately have a second scan at the FMC as i consider them the experrts. Mind you, you are lucky your NHS hospital offers the nasal bone, Are you sure they are qualified to do it? I read it was just done at FMC. If they aren't qualified and been trained by FMC i wouldn't go on their advice. Go to FMC, its £150 but well worth it for piece of mind. Sorry to waffle!! xx

nitnat84 · 08/03/2009 16:11

Hello everyone,
Just a quick message to ask if anyone is suffering constant heartburn? I woke up at 12.30 this morning with crippling stomach pains. I could not stand, sit, lay or do anything. I actually thought I was dying. It was not until I was sick that I realised it must be heartburn as I then began to have a lot of burping (nice I know!) It was the worst pain that I have ever experienced. Am I the only one suffering like this?

StealthPolarBear · 08/03/2009 16:42

nitnat that sounds awful
Have had heartburn this time, seems really early, but not as bad as that and not all the time. Can't belive it's making you sick

TigerFeet · 08/03/2009 16:45

I've had a bit of heartburn, not often but very painful. Have you tried gaviscon? It works for me so far. Perfectly safe in pregnancy and you can get mahoosive bottles for free once you have your NHS exemption certificate
