The other thread was too long and wouldn't let me add a new message.

I am 8+3 and as my previous m/c's have been at 9 weeks.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Thinking of you Kooky - lots of love and hugs coming your way.

I've had my second fall (on icy steps at the station!) Got a horrid purple bruise on my bum from the iron steps Bit worried about the bean but nothing much I can do so trying to put it to the back of my mind. At this rate DH is unlikely to let me out of the house!

Had to wear maternity trousers to work as struggling to do up regular trousers. Do have some pairs that still fit but needed ironing. Having to be extra careful to hide the elastic waistband Very comfy though. Unfortunately no bump just a 'too many pies' look.

mumtobe23 · 05/03/2009 11:39

Sorry to hear about you fall purple sounds painful!
Can i ask if anyone is starting to show yet? I'm 14 weeks tomorrow and although I am getting bigger I've no obvious bump which i'm dying for!
Also I know most of us have told close family & friends but has anyone told all the "other people" yet? I'm far too scared and think i'm jinxing myself if i tell people...i know im not but i've suddenly become this nervous wreck whe it come to all things pregnancy related.
Its annoying because i'm quite a worry free person normally! Good luck with all those having scans today!

erhianj · 05/03/2009 12:12

I started to show at about 10 weeks, thought I was just bloated due to IBS as it is my first pg but as I cant hold it in and it feels harder I think it is a proper bump! Am 12+3 and look like a stick with 1/2 a football stuck to it .

We only told family first, they knew we were TTC, then when I was diagnosed with HG I had to tell work. A few close friends know now. We are waiting for the scan tomorrow. It is a nervous time, when I start to get nervous I just say sickness is good, sickness is good...!!

erhianj · 05/03/2009 12:20

I also think I might change my MN name to either hairy mcscary or spotty mcgrotty! Any one else have these lovely effects of pregnancy?

iamamummy · 05/03/2009 12:33

hellloooo ladies

how are you all?

purplecrazyhorses - hope your ok after your fall, are you going to get checked out just to be sure?!

mumtobe23 - is this your first? this is my second and i am only 10+4. my bump is same size as it was at 20 weeks my trousers dont do up either i am trying to hide it from work as i have just started a new job and on 3 months probation and i just dont want to be sacked at the end of it when they can see im pregnant. all family and friends know too.

erhianji - good luck for scan tomorrow. what is hg?

all is well here, had booking in appointment with fantastic midwife so supportive of homebirth. i have been referred to see a consultant at the hospital due to pph with ds but she said it shouldnt affect my chances of hb.

xxx

mumtobe23 · 05/03/2009 12:55

haha love the new name ideas erhianj!! I'm ok at the mo not suffering with too much stuff (except moods & bump envy!)

Iammummy yes this is my first, I'm petite so i was hoping for a big bump early but obviosuly not...Knowing my luck I'll be the one whos 25 weeks gone with a tiny hint of a bump!

iamamummy · 05/03/2009 13:15

first babies dont usually show until later. i was the same with my first couldnt wait for a bump - i dont think there was a definate one there until about 24/25 weeks and then all of a sudden i was huuuggeee!!! so dont worry your time will come

audreyraines · 05/03/2009 13:21

erhianj, at your midwife.

when i told mine that i'd lost 2 kilos, she said don't worry i recently had a mum like that and she delivered a 4kg baby. that is also scary!

erhianj · 05/03/2009 13:29

iamamummy - HG is hyperemesis gravidarum - horrendous nausea and LOTS of sickness - yuk!

mumtobe23 - re the bump my DH is 6'4 and I am 5'9 so maybe bubs is growing on the same lines

TigerFeet · 05/03/2009 13:38

Hi everyone

How are you feeling today Kooky? Good luck with the CVS.

There's only one in there so much relief all round - twins would have been fine but would have necessitated more reorganising of our lives than we were really prepared for. Baby is wriggling away.

I'm 12+5 today so new EDD of 12/9 That's 4 days earlier than I originally thought but I wasn't entirely sure of the dates so was prepared for a change.

Not all good news though... I was weighed and measured my BMI is exactly 35 - the cut off point for homebirth or waterbirth. I had to see a consultant who said it was unlikely that I would be approved for a waterbirth. Very annoying because if my BMI had been just half a point less it would have been fine . I had an easy pg and delivery with dd with no other risk factors for this pregnancy so I am cross. I think I'll have a word with my community MW when I see her next and see what she thinks. I cried when the doctor told me farking pregnancy hormones.

erhianj · 05/03/2009 13:53

Great news from the scan Tigerfeet, must be so lovely to see bubs wriggle!
at the no home/water birth especially if you've had easy delivery before. Can you not have a waterbirth in hosp either? seems ridiculous not to have choices due to half a point in BMI. Really hope your MW has a bit more feeling when you see her next, will keep my fingers crossed for you x x

FairySparkles · 05/03/2009 14:55

Hi everyone - haven't had chance to log in for nearly a week so its just taken me aaaaaagges to catch up with all whats been happening!
Kooky - bless you! Super positive thoughts being sent your way!
Ladylush - it must be just awful bleeding so often, can't imagine the rollercoaster you must be on at the moment!
Purple Crazy Horse - hope your ok, have you told your MW?
Mumtobe23 - I'm only 11wks and I've got a big fat jelly belly poking out over my jeans, I'm blaming it on the fact that I have only had 1 year off without being pregnant so I figure my stomach muscles must just be shot to bits! With regard to telling everybody your news - I'm super superstitious but I do quite a violent job so the minute I know I'm pregnant I have to go onto light duties - needless to say the world and his dog knew I was pregnant by 4 weeks! It was the same with my dd - I keep myself happy by not actually buying anything for the baby until 26 weeks - this way I keep my demons happy!!!
I've got my dating scan Friday 13th - anybody else!?!?!?! I'm encouraged ny the fact that 13 is always lucky for me so who know's......
Oh yeah - just wanted to say on the maternity clothes thing: peacocks is pretty good for reasonably priced maternity clothes. Also, they're good for underware - I got a couple of sports bra's for only a couple quid each last pregnancy (non-wired sports bra's do just about the same as maternity bra's and are considerably cheaper if your on a budget!)

PurpleCrazyHorse · 05/03/2009 14:57

iamamummy - no, not going for a check up as feel a fraud turning up at A&E. DH has the car in London so can't go to birth centre either. Not massively worried today, no bleeding or anything plus not much hosp can do if something has happened and would rather DH was with me if bad news. Got scan on Tues so will find out then. Tense few days but what will be, will be.

Bruise looked smaller this morning than yesterday (might have been the small and poss magnifying mirror in bathroom!). Honestly I'm not usually a dozy accident prone woman

Good news on the scan TigerFeet and keep on about the home birth. Alternatively do you have a MW led unit near you for a home-from-home feel or stay at home until the latest possible moment

LittleCheese · 05/03/2009 16:26

well i had my scan yesterday it was amazing im now 13 + 5. I got an amazing little picture, couldnt believe how clear it was. When I had my scan with DD they found me really difficult to scan and we didnt get a great picture, I couldnt even really see a baby but this time it is quite obviously a baby i have a picture of

After the scan I had my booking appointment where a student doctor proceeded to butcher my arm trying to take my blood I haven't put on any weight in the last 13 weeks although my stomach is definately looking bigger but no obvious bump just yet. I got my new bras through that i ordered this morning, they are like hamocks i only ordered a back size bigger than im in now but they are definately never going to fit me looks like ill have to go get measured properly

How is everyone else doing? It feels great to be in the second trimester dosnt it.

iamamummy · 05/03/2009 16:35

purple - im sure everything will be fine anyway. i had a fall at 8 months with ds and landed smack on my bum!! all was fine.

tigerfeet - great news on the scan! keep pushing for a hb, i cant see any reason why it wouldnt be ok if u have had healthy pregnancy before and healthy pregnancy this time! fingers crossed.

PrincessLala · 05/03/2009 17:32

Hi all
Kooky ? how awful for you to be going through all this when you should be enjoying reaching the second trimester. Hope everything goes OK and we?ll be thinking of you. Let us know what happens, if you feel like it.

It?s great to hear the other more positive stories, especially as more people get their scans and the resulting reassurance. I had mine last week ? my date?s been brought forward a couple of days to 6/9/09. Not a problem unless I go over and they want to induce me sooner than I would agree with. But I?m not going to worry about that at this point!

Also had my midwife?s booking appointment this week, and weirdly that made me more excited than the scan did. Possibly cos she didn?t bat an eyelid when I said I would like a homebirth ? although I know they can?t stop me as such, I thought she might come up with some excuse as to why it?s a bad idea. I reckon I?m going to face enough of that as it is, what with being my first time, so to have real support from my midwife is great. The only concern is that she thought that, should I need to be transferred, I would have to go to the main hospital in town rather than the smaller one where I work and would much rather go. Although it?s a bit further away, it?s down the motorway rather than round the often-busy bypass so I wouldn?t have thought it would take any longer. Oh well, I?ll just have to make sure I?m not transferred! Positive thinking? Mind you, I asked one of the labour ward sisters and she thought it was rubbish so I?ll have to enquire further.

Midwife was very nice all round, actually. Apparently the consultant for my area sees pretty much everyone, even the low risk women (which I am), which I think is pretty ridiculous in these days of midwife-led care. How come it?s the consultant who gets to decide which risk band you fall into? Surely a midwife is capable of that! Sorry, rant over ? I?m a bit of a pro-normality gal as you may be gathering (where appropriate, of course ? I know it?s not possible for everyone and there are lots of bl**dy good reasons to see a doc).

Tigerfeet, that?s a real shame for you about support for your hb. Obviously there are more risks for women with higher BMIs but as long as you are aware of them, the choice should be up to you. Have you looked at the homebirth site? They have loads of info about the reasons women are given as to why they shouldn?t have one www.homebirth.org.uk
You could also try contacting your Supervisor of Midwives
www.mypregnancymatters.org.uk/welcome/som-and-mslc
www.nmc-uk.org/aArticle.aspx?ArticleID=2098
Or see if your area has a midwife with responsibility for promoting normality. We do in my area and she has a clinic for people with ?complications? to identify ways to make their experience as normal as possible.

Re the talk about twins, the received wisdom is that only non-identical twins are hereditary, through the maternal line ? it?s to do with the likelihood of you ovulating twice in one cycle.

Oof, that was a long one. I may not post often but I make it worthwhile when I do!

kookykid · 05/03/2009 18:41

Great to see many positive scan stories! Congrats everyone.

I am back from my CVS. The consultant was really fantastic and didn't keep us waiting at all, which helped with the nerves. It was a very very strange and uncomfortable feeling whilst it was being done, but over very quickly. He said the placenta was in an excellent position and that the risk of miscarriage was less than 1%, but obviously have to take it easy for the next day or so.

Am feeling calmer and less stressed than I have for days. We should have the results on Monday evening. Off to bed shortly!

erhianj · 05/03/2009 18:52

Really glad things went smoothly for you kooky,it makes so much of a difference to have a lovely consultant.Hope you have a nice long nights sleep, you deserve it x x

TheTickListQueen · 05/03/2009 19:04

Hang in there Kooky. Hope you can do something nice over the weekend to keep busy.

cautiousmumtobe · 05/03/2009 19:23

Kooky - you're being so brave. Get those feet up for the next few days and we'll all be sending positive thoughts your way for a good result on Monday.

I haven't been on for a week or so - loads of posts to catch up on. Great to hear so much positive scan news.

I'm 12+4 today and am definitely finding trousers are getting a bit tight. It seems to be that horrid phase where my waist has completely disappeared, the tummy has gone all flabby but no real evidence of being pregnant. I'm sure that will come soon enough though. The bras are on the last clasp as well. Think I might have to bite the bullet and go and get measured - yuk!

We're waiting for our follow up appointment with the consultant at the moment. It was supposed to be today but an incompetent doctor hadn't booked us in properly so now have to wait until Monday. Was really hoping to get some good news this week to know that all was well going into the second semester but it pails into insignificance with what some of you are going through.

Purple - I had a fall onto my left knee on Wednesday morning. Really painful and felt like a complete idiot! Do you think being pg has made us more clumsy? Mind you, I'm not the most dainty person at the best of times. I've been known to have several accidents all in the same day - usually ties in with PMT though so maybe it is a hormone thing. Who knows? As we have both fallen in totally unrelated areas to where the little bubs are keeping cosy, I'm sure they didn't even notice that their Mum's are clomping around like elephants!

AprilMeadow · 05/03/2009 20:00

Kooky, am so pleased that you had a lovely consultant. Please rest between now and result day. Thinking of you as always.

Now ladies........ i think it might be time to start TPT...... TPT i hear you say...... TPT stands for Toilet Paper Tuesday. On the May 07 AN thread we used this as a guide to see how big we were compared to our fellow mums to be. As everyone is built differently and is of different heights it is hard to gauge how big/small we are or how we have grown week on week. TPT allows you to visualise how you compare to your other MTB's. It means that you can be in complete denial about weight gain as no scales are involved!

How it works:
Get yourself a roll of toilet paper, take the end of a sheet and place it at your tummy button, then wrap it around yourself until you get back to your tummy button. Tear off or mark where you get to and then count the number of sheets that were needed (qtr & half sheets DO count).

It's brilliant fun...... anyone fancy it??

TigerFeet · 05/03/2009 20:07

SOunds good AprilMeadow count me in!

Kooky I'm glad to hear things went well today, keeping my fingers crossed for you

It's a hospital waterbirth I've been refused. A homebirth was kind of on the agenda but a WB in hospital would have been lovely and probably my first choice as dh isn't entirely comfortable with the idea of a HB. It's the only maternity unit in our area, we are rural, the next nearest is probably about 35-40 miles away. Hey ho.

cautiousmumtobe · 05/03/2009 20:20

Aprilmeadow - TPT sounds like fun. Might be brave enough to try after a good night's sleep. My dd was born in May 07 aswell but I didn't know of the wonders of mumsnet at that stage!

peachygirl · 05/03/2009 20:27

Hi every one I think I have managed to catch up with allthe news, Glad the CVS wasn't too bad Koooky and great news everyone about all the scans.
I haven't weighed myself for a while but last time I hadn't put any on. I recently lost lots of my baby weight ( sorry can't remember if I posted this before ) so I'm quite happy for a little gain. Most of my trousers fit me though.

I've been feeling a bit 'whippy' this last few days.
This morning DD woke early and Ihad to rush to work to run a signing group for staff (Bobber I work in SEN too) I nearly had a bit of a wobble and I think people were a bit worried. How everyone hasn't guessed I have no idea!!

Lady lush when we have both had a our scans I would be happy to have a chat if you like, since we are so local.

audreyraines · 05/03/2009 20:36

Hi Kooky, have an easy weekend my dear and thinking of you on Monday. x
