The other thread was too long and wouldn't let me add a new message.

I am 8+3 and as my previous m/c's have been at 9 weeks.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

My dh's mum is a twin... I got an early bfp and have HG this time... the thought of twins has crossed my mind but I have stuck my head firmly in the sand

I will know either way by this time tomorrow. Scan at 8.55 in the morning.

pooka · 04/03/2009 10:46

Fingers crossed for you kooky.

Re: weight gain, this is my third and I've put on about 8 pounds. Or had about 3 days ago.

At one alarming stage I seemed to be putting on a pound a day!

With dd, I put on about 4.5 stones. Not great, but I was really rather underweight before I conceived (had had gastric flu and was road running a lot). Lost all bar 1 stone within about 2 months.

With ds I put on about 2 stones.

Both times I lost weight quite quickly afterwards - a combination of breastfeeding and anxiety and lack of time to eat!. But didn't shift all weight until I stopped breastfeeding each time, and my base weight is now about three quarters of a stone more than when I was 26 and didn't have babies.

Neddie · 04/03/2009 10:46

Hi
Twins don't always equal extra sickness! i have 2 cooking and I haven't really been sick at all but was horribly sick with number one daughter and mildly sick with no 2.
Could it be twin boys? I am having a scan next Monday and then my NT on the following Monday. DP home this weekend haven't seen him for 3 weeks so very happy.

pooka · 04/03/2009 10:47

And would you believe that that screed on weight was posted as I munched on a block of marzipan (i.e. the proper cook's stuff, breaking hunks off).

TigerFeet · 04/03/2009 10:55

Perhaps I'm being sick on your behalf neddie . Have a lovely weekend. My dh works away a fair bit and it's always lovely to have him home - he's never away for more than a few days though and rarely at the weekend.

Marzipan

erhianj · 04/03/2009 10:56

My MW tut tutted at me in my booking in (she's not the most friendly of souls, wrong job I think!) as my BMI was only just 19 and I am 5'9, she seemed to think it was my fault I have IBS, and I had the nerve to suffer from HG! How dare I! Have not seen her since, and have lost more than a stone in the meantime so will probably get a glare or two, and a lecture when I go back end of March!

Pooka - marzipan lol!!

TigerFeet · 04/03/2009 11:00

My BMI is mid 30's (hence ridiculous norks - they account for a significant proprotion lol). I've lost well over a stone which in my case isn't a bad thing but I'm sure I will still get called fat and old when I see the midwife tomorrow

Interesting that you have IBS erhianj - I do too - I wonder if there's a connectino with HG? Are you taking any medication? I stopped taking mine when I found out about the pregnancy. I've been in agony at times.

erhianj · 04/03/2009 11:23

Midwifes - hmmm are they all in the wrong job?!
Tigerfeet - when I was TTC my Dr said there was a higher chance of excessive MS/HG due to the fact that everything re digestion is 'irritable' anyway. Have also been in agony at times, mostly between 4 and 6 weeks when would get awful cramps that came every 2 hours or so and lasted 15 mins, was very scary as IBS cramps are similar to period type pains at times.No-one was bothered though so I just put up with it. Medication wise I have tried all things under the sun with no success, used to try and keep it under control with excluding certain foods etc, now that I am so sick and having to eat whatever I can that will stay put for a reasonable ammount of time, I think its worse cos it's usualy the things I avoid! It is very hard though I know, so nice to have someone on here who suffers from it as well x x

TigerFeet · 04/03/2009 11:31

Being so sick all the time really doesn't help with IBS does it? I can go all day without being able to eat at all and then I will need to eat but it will be toast or something - completely the wrong thing for managing IBS. I need to eat plenty of fibre, little and often, in order to alleviate the IBS and I just can't do that atm. The cramping can be scary at times but I tend to get mine in the right hand side of my abdomen, a bit higher up than period pain so I can usually tell the difference.

It makes sense - irritable digestion = higher chance of HG - perhaps there's only one in there after all

lemonmoon · 04/03/2009 11:56

Does anyone want to share my midwife? She said I was young, healthy and not overweight as far as she is concerned - I'm 36 and my bmi is 29. I love her.

lol at the marzipan, pooka.

erhianj · 04/03/2009 11:58

Maybe 14/16 weeks will see a turning point, am sure that when we are able to eat normally (!) things will settle a bit. I think I will be a bit naughty and eat complete junk for a week when I stop being so sick, before eating properly! x x

erhianj · 04/03/2009 11:58

I'll have your MW lemonmoon!!

LJ29 · 04/03/2009 11:59

I am PG with no.3 and am now 12+4, I'm really suprised that I haven't put any weight on at all yet. I have a BMI of 34 so certainly don't want to be putting as much on as I did with my other pregnancies. I do feel that my body has changed shape though, my tummy looks more like a bump and my face and bum seem smaller so maybe I have lost fat but am gaining in terms of baby and water etc.

Anyway, looking forward to hearing all the new scan news tomorrow, best of luck with the CVS Kooky.

I am starting to feel much better in terms of nausea but am still exhausted and don't have any expectation that this will get any better. I am going to an NCT nearly new sale at the end of the month as I got rid of most of my baby stuff after no.2. If anyone is interested you can go to the NCT website and find your nearest sale event. They are normally excellent but incredibly popular so you need to get there early.

Also, is anyone planning on going to the babyshow at the NEC in May? Just wondered if anyone know where you can get cheap tickets.

erhianj · 04/03/2009 12:57

Has anyone read Baby and Child,Birth to Five Years by Penelope Leach? My mum dropped it off this morning for me, she had it 27 yrs ago when she was expecting me! Have just read the first section on birth - what a lovely read! all from the baby's point of view which is a nice change, and not bossy in tone either. As this is my first pg I have read loads already, but this is by far the nicest read.

erhianj · 04/03/2009 13:02

LJ29 - I would try moneysavingexpert, they usualy have deals, or links to deals on there. One lady was told in 2007 to ring one of the big stall holders and say that she would really like to come and see them, and she got free tickets!

bigbang · 04/03/2009 13:07

Kooky, this must be heartbreaking for you. I can't pretend to know how you feel but I am thinking of you. I am sure the CVS is the right way to go at this stage, you need to do what you and your dh feel is right. All the best with it, I hope it can provide you with some answers.

I seem to have lots 5 kg somewhere... I haven't had much sickness but I guess the nausea has stopped me eating as much. Weird, but I'm not complaining! I didn't put much on with 1st preg as I lost so much from HG, just a stone maybe? Took FOREVER to go, I stayed in mat jeans for about 6 months after. I didn't make much effort though to be fair.

Glad to hear good news from those who have had scans recently and good luck to those ones coming up. Erhianj my HG got better around 14 weeks last time, and was gone completely by 23 weeks, there is light at the end of the tunnel!

pooka · 04/03/2009 13:48

Oh I read Penelope Leach. Think she's fab at explaining things from the baby/child perspective. Very gentle and undogmatic.

erhianj · 04/03/2009 14:45

Thanks so much bigbang - lovely to know 12+1 and counting!

pooka - gentle sums it up perfectly

Snowfalls108 · 04/03/2009 16:53

Wow - what a lot of messages since I last looked!
Thank you for all the messages and congratulations to all those others with positive scan results.

Kooky - can't imagine what you're going through, but glad you've got DH with you, and you are able to make decisions.

LJ29 - I won some tickets for the baby show at excel by doing a bit of googling and finding a website running a competition. Entered with a nice email and a week later 2 tickets turned up. Can't remember which site it was I'm afraid - but google should help!

I know I shouldn't say this to all you poor ladies who are being ill still but it is quite comforting to be sick - at least you know things are happening. I find in very unerving that I'm not anymore.

Can't wait until I'm obviously pregnant - I'm caught site of my profile in a mirror earlier out of the corner of my eye and was horrified by how fat my tummy looked!

Having a bit of a stressfull work day, lots of talk of redundancies or voluntary pay cuts floating around. All pretty stressfull. Comes in the middle of negotiating my maternity so not great timing. How's everyone else handling this with their work? I work for a very small company so I've been trying to negotiate working part time afterwards.

BabyLady · 04/03/2009 18:20

Hi all,

Sorry to hear your news Kooky but in some ways at least your decision means you will be able to understand what is going on in there. Sometimes knowing is better than not knowing and worrying anyway!

Love Marzipan Pooka! DH brought some back from a trip to Germany and is still in the cupboard. You have inspired me for an after dinner treat!

Weight gain is starting in earnest for me at 15 weeks today. Have put on 1.8kgs as at Monday this week and I was horrified to read that it is supposed to go on at half a kilo a week from here on in. Think I just need to get my head around the whole weight gain thing. Body has definitely changed and rounded belly in evidence as well as general spreading across hips.

Anyone else still fairly active in the gym. I am a little worried but my doctor said no evidence of damage for moderate levels of activity so I am trying to be calm about it.

Having my first check up with my doctor tomorrow.

ladylush · 04/03/2009 19:29

Kooky - how frustrating for you to have such an inconclusive scan I agree with Bobber and everyone else. I think you've made the right decision re. CVS. Do you think they scanned too early, or is it likely a later one would've been equally inconclusive. I don't blame you and h for not wanting to wait another 2 weeks - especially when there is no guarantee wrt results.

I'm not weighing myself. My belly has a bump but it's flab that's moved upwards! I suppose it will eventually become hard
Like Pooka I only lost my baby weight when I stopped breast feeding.

kookykid · 04/03/2009 19:52

Thanks for all your support, ladies.

Ladylush, it was too early to do a really detailed scan, but I'm not sure we would ever get a result from a scan alone, no matter when they did it. The only way to get a definite result is through CVS.

I am 14 weeks today.

Good luck for the scans tomorrow! Wonder if we'll have some more twins??!

mummyhill · 04/03/2009 21:23

Good luck Kooky I will be thinking of you.

I had my dating scan today and they have put me back 3 days. Baby's due date is now 19th September. I had my bloods taken by a ward manager who happens to be someone I went to school with. She was lovely even though I was nervous and I am really difficult to bleed. She only made 2 attempts which is really good. It usually take the phlebotomist at the surgery at least 5 tries before she can get enough for a thyroid function test let alone booking bloods.

erhianj · 05/03/2009 11:03

Tigerfeet - how did you get on this morning? Hope you did not feel too rough, it was an early appointment! x x

BabyLady · 05/03/2009 11:17

Went to see the Consultant this morning, could hear the baby's heart beat which was cool so I know it is still in there!

Had read somewhere about sleeping positions and sleeping on your back etcwas not good. Doc said it was rubbish and that there is no way to control your sleeping positions. He said the problem with sleeping on your back is that the weight of your uterus (after 24 weeks) press on major arteries which could lower Mum's blood pressure and make her faint. He said that all evidence supports the fact that if you inadvertantly roll on to your back during sleep and you are pressing on arteries very likley that your body would react and you will roll over. He did point out that it is likley to be more comfortbale to sleep on your side in later pregnancy but that it was nothing to worry about.

Got new bra on today - much more comfortable. Gone up a back size (though now on smallest hooks) and cup size.
