The other thread was too long and wouldn't let me add a new message.

I am 8+3 and as my previous m/c's have been at 9 weeks.

OP posts:

The gender predictor I did is called 'Pregnancy Predictor - Baby Gender/Sex - Maternity Test

erhianj · 27/02/2009 20:19

Blue - am 11+4, must admit that symptoms have really kicked in in the last week or so - my mum is being a star and as I am off work due to the HG, is coming over every afternoon and making sure I eat and drink as much as I can! Yay for mums!

Nitnat - great news! must be so exiting to see bub for the first time. Am at the pic though, here we dont get them 'til 20 weeks!

bigbang · 27/02/2009 20:27

Scan went well this afternoon The baby is fine measuring at 11+4, so EDD is 14th. I ended up being there for 3 hours, it was awful! DS was really tired and therefore very difficult. The nuchal results were positive too, low risk of any problems.

Oh and scan photos are £1 not £2, must have remember wrongly. I would advise anyone else going to kings to take a book, it was quite funny looking at all the couples (sans children) watching Mister Maker on tv. Totally different experience to last time! Next scan is booked for first thing in the morning so hopefully they won't have time to get backed up before we go in!

I really struggled breast feeding ds, there were lots of problems to get over. You have to remember that its a new skill for both of you and you need to learn how to do it, which takes a bit of time and effort! I figured it would just 'happen' by itself, but the positioning and what not is so important to get right. I should have paid more attention in antenatal classes and to the books! Gets easier though and we are still going strong now, tis a wonderful thing.

I hope everyone is well

erhianj · 27/02/2009 20:29

Trying to watch Wales play - too tired - am sure there are too many players on the screen! My eyes are crossed! Bed time I think....hope we win

Ladylush I'll be at Mayday. I had DD there She was breech and I had a C section the actual delivery was great but the post natal ward wasn't brill. The birth centre has a great reputation though and is lovely. I think the PN ward has improved.A friend recently had a great experience there but I will be keen to try to get home ASAP.

Interesting about the baby and latching on within 30 mins,. This didn't happen with us and it did take us a while to get going. I have said to friends not to expect breast feeding to come naturally, you do have to learn how to do it, although I do know some babies and women get going really well but I took me and DD at least 3 weeks to get going properly and it was one of the hardest things I have ever done.

I did feed DD for a year once we started. I ended up going to one of the breast feeding clinics and our problems were solved with a bit of simple advice.

nitnat84 · 27/02/2009 22:02

StealthPolarBear- Baby due 14th September. Midwife had originally said 10th but we had worked out 14th.
erhianj- Surely they could print you a picture! How unfair!

ladylush · 28/02/2009 01:48

Peachy - I was set to choose Mayday but unfortunately had a very negative experience there when scanned in my last pregnancy last November (that one turned out to be a blighted ovum). The attitude of the staff at the EPU and the treatment in the day surgery unit was off-hand at best and callous at worst Obviously the maternity dept. is separate but you know how it is.....negative associations. I too have heard that the birth centre is great. Postnatally I think a lot of hospitals fare badly and like you I will be aiming to get back home ASAP What part of the borough are you? I'm south.

detoxdiva · 28/02/2009 08:02

Congrats to all the ladies with scan news....it's nice to hear so many positive things at the moment

Good luck to everyone planning to breast feed - I somehow managed for 7 months with dd. I second what was said about getting baby to feed asap after birth - I did this in hops with dd, although did struggle a bit at home after for the first few days mainly because my boobs were soooooo engorged once the milk came in after 3 or 4 days that she couldn't latch on properly. Luckily I had a great and very patient mw who helped me out a lot.

Well, my maternity clothes arrived, but they just depressed me - I am clearly in that awkward in between stage where my regular clothes are too tight but I'm not the right shape yet to fill maternity clothes !!

StealthPolarBear · 28/02/2009 08:48

Sorry, just to clarify about the feed asap thing, I do agree it's a good idea, but if your birth hasn't gone to plan and you don't get to try for an hour or so, there's no need to worry or assume it won't happen.
Can't wait for September now!

Neddie · 28/02/2009 09:05

Hi there,
just some advice about breastfeeding. Take some Camillosan or some such preparation with you to the hospital. I found that the babies suck was so hard that they actually made my nipples bleed and crack. This is why so many Mums give up. It hurts to begin with but just persevere. I gave some to my friend who thought I'd fallen from a tree at first. She was really glad after a day or so!!

AprilMeadow · 28/02/2009 09:38

Congrats to those of you that have had fab scan news. My scan is on Friday, am so excited.

I struggled bf'ing ds and really wish i had sort help/tried harder not to give in to the formula. With dd i was determined to get it right, mainly down to the fact that she was 4wks early. I managed 8mths which was fantastic. This time i will see how things go, i always have a stash of bottles and formula as a 'just in case'.

I have 5 pairs of maternity trousers at the moment. Got some fab black jeans from Mothercare this week that had a stretchy band across the front for under the bulge bump. Really comfy and great fit.

Off to the Baby Show shortly, will report back with any good buys or bargains.

TigerFeet · 28/02/2009 09:48

Great to hear more good scan news! Mine is next Thursday, at 8.50, so shouldn't have to hang around for too long. I need to provide an early morning urine sample but still have a full bladder for the scan so will need to get up early [rolls eyes]

I bought some maternity clothes from, some of the stretchy tops are OK already but the trousers... I have lost a lot of weight over the past couple of months so my everyday clothes don't fit me but the trousers I bought need a bump to keep them up (think Simon COwell) and the jeans are enormous - got them of ebay in the size I am now but they are a good size too big. I may have to stop being a skinflint and buy something from a shop at full price

I was incredibly lucky wrt breastfeeding dd. She fed like a pro from the start. We carried on for 7 months but once I was back at work it tailed off really quickly, I worked FT then and we were apart for too long during the day, she took to a bottle and started refusing the breast. I'm hoping to carry on longer this time, I will be working far fewer hours so with any luck we'll have more success continuing once I'm back behind my desk. Blimey, that's thinking ahead isn't it?!

ladylush · 28/02/2009 10:17

Hmm, 11+3 today. Counting the days til next Wednesday. I'm sure statistically the odds aren't much different, but you know how it is.

Whilst we're on the topic of bf, I used some cabbage cream. Sounds gross but didn't smell of cabbage. It's supposed to prepare the nipples for bf. I used it for 4 weeks prior to EDD. Then afterwards I used Lansinoh cream (that stuff is great). Lansinoh doesn't have to be washed off before you feed. I got slight cracked nipples but I'm sure they'd have been much worse if I hadn't used it.

StealthPolarBear · 28/02/2009 11:45

I'm struggling with clothes too, normal ones are uncomfortable but the only pairs of maternity trousers I have left are huge! Might have to buy some more, I think H&M (are they still around?) were suitable for earlier pregnancy then too small for 8-9months.
I used cabbage leaves for engorgement - sounds like an old wives tale but really works! You do smell like a cabbage though And it has to be savoy apparently!

Snowfalls108 · 28/02/2009 12:20

Hi Ladylush - same position as you. 11+2 today and can't wait till Thursday. Official end of the first trimester! Wow that sounds very advanced doesn't it. Scary.
I think the real thing is the scan on Monday though.

ladylush · 28/02/2009 12:35

Stealth - I got some tops from H+M. They are soft and nice and long. Good fit. I got a medium though and doubt they will fit when I'm 6/7 months pg.

Snowfalls - Good luck for the scan on Monday. Not long to wait now Keep yourself occupied. Is it morning or afternoon? I'm still waiting for my nuchal appt. Will feel happier when I have a date. It will have to be no later than 2 weeks away but I'd be delighted if it's next week.

Bobber - we tried the dopplers but nothing apart from my pulse I think it's just too early for me. I'll try again at 12 weeks.

StealthPolarBear · 28/02/2009 12:37

Might have to pop back into H&M. Can't remember what I bought frm there but I do remember being impressed with their selection. At least we won't have to worry about buying coats to fit a bump, having babies in September!

ladylush · 28/02/2009 12:40

Red Herring at Debenhams have some ok stuff as well. I'm dreading getting jeans because I am tall. I usually get Oasis jeans as they fit me really well but they I don't think they do a maternity range. Anyone else know of any decent high street maternity wear?

Snowfalls108 · 28/02/2009 17:21

Hi Ladylush,
It's Monday afternoon, but early afternoon, so not too bad. How long have you been waiting to hear about your date? Whereabouts are you?
I also wear Oasis jeans as they fit larger bums well! Maybe we should write to them and suggest that they start on Maternity wear!

LittleCheese · 28/02/2009 20:30

scan on wednesday im so excited really cant wait, but lots to keep me occupied till then any way. its DH's birthday today, we have a christening to go to tomorrow, my wed anni on tues so hopefully time will go quick.

I no longer feel pregnant no nausea and I have got over the insane tiredness. I have however got some strange "discharge" coming from my nipples (sorry tmi) but it isn't pleasent

TigerFeet · 01/03/2009 08:19

I got a pair of jeans and a pair of trousers from Mothercare yesterday - f**k me they were expensive . I need them though, I have absolutely nothing that fits comfortably. I have to do a 70 mile round trip to get to anywhere that sells maternity clothes too

blue76 · 01/03/2009 08:25

Ive just bought some 'belly belts'. they come in different sizes, with material panels for when you're bigger. means you can still wear normal jeans/trousers (providing you wear a top which covers the gap). Hoping these will be sufficient but my bum usually gets really large so will have to see...

lemonmoon · 01/03/2009 09:03

Glad everyone else is thinking of investing in clothes - I seem to have bloated like a watermelon the past couple of days. I also need to go and get a bra, so I'm thinking of going to Bravissimo on my friend's recommendation. While I'm in the vicinity a trip into H&M/Debenhams/Top Shop won't go amiss will it? Mostly I'd like to try stuff on so I can order things from ebay and get the right size.

mummyhill · 01/03/2009 09:39

Little cheese, this is normal it is possibly tiny amounts of colostrum you could try using breast pads if you are finding it embarrassing.

bigbang · 01/03/2009 09:49

I have mat jeans from gap, they are great. Most of my stuff from ds is from h and m, top shop and next. Topshop jeans are good for early preg as they have stretchy bands in the pockets rather than a full band around the waist iyswkm. wouldn't go past 6/7/8 months in them though depending on bump size! Good though as they seem to be the only place that have straight leg/skinny jeans, gap ones are nice but all bootcut!
