The other thread was too long and wouldn't let me add a new message.

I am 8+3 and as my previous m/c's have been at 9 weeks.

OP posts:

Kooky, sorry to see that your scan results are worrying. You have been given some fab advice by the lovely ladies on here already. Am pleased that you are feeling more positive, you are a very brave lady! Please make sure that you take it easy (as much as is possible). Here's to the next 3 weeks passing very quickly for you x

Stealth great news on the scan! Do you know that its a girl or is that you hoping that it's a girl.......

I think the only book i read whilst pg with 1&2 was 'What to expect when you are expecting' as well as reading the weekly updates on babycentre. I think i must have known each page off by heart with the book when having ds. Didnt read it as much with dd, and this time i have looked at it about 3 times.

Blue76, by (.)(.) only reached that dizzy size when bf'ing dd. I loved them! Like you i am a size 10 so did look very top heavy (not that dh complained). This time i seem to have started out at a 32c and already my 32d's are feeling small. Lord knows what ridiculous size i will end up

Hi everyone, back from two weeks holiday. Took me an age to work out why the posts ended on the other thread and then about 20 mins to read through all the news.

Congrats to everyone for the good scan news and sorry to hear about your news Kooky.

I went for a scan before I went away to Thailand, baby was 11 + 2 - great strong heart beat and very active.

Then went for nuchal scan on Monday 13 + 5 plus bloods. Risk 1:3764 which I thought was pretty good but I have no idea what the range is.

Someone just brought donuts into work and I have already had one and am thinking about going back for a second??

iamamummy · 27/02/2009 10:13

hi ladies

sorry i have been awol for agggeeesss!!!

i have started my new job so its been pretty hectic.

no symptoms anymore here only 9+4 and still no word from midwife for booking in apt or even a scan date - no wonder i keep forgetting i am pregnant!

i hope you are all ok, have not had chance to catch up and read posts. love to all xxx

kookykid · 27/02/2009 11:03

Morning everyone,

Had a phone call from the fetal medicine unit in Cambridge who have said to come in on Tuesday. When I asked whether it was for the scan, they said they could do "both". Am concnerned they'll want to do the placental test as the baby won't be big enough to diagnose through the scan alone.

It's crazy, but it's really unsettled me. I think I had got used to the time-frame they had first given me. Obviously the sooner the better, but I don't want to feel pressured into anything I'm not comfortable with. Gah!

Kooky - I am sure they will be sensitive to what you are comfortable with. Will be thinking of you.

evie2000 · 27/02/2009 13:16

HI all, have been lurking but not posting, has some bleeding and the fear but now have had 12 week scan and all well. Dates brought forward 1 day but frankly we all know babies will come when babies want to come and they pay no attention to due dates!
Sorry to hear of the stressful news Kooky (seems like some good words of wisdom so won't try to add but just to say will be thinking of you and don't get bullied into anything), and sad news further back, but congratulations to all those who have had good news.
I think pregnancy is the most extraordinary time - nothing prepares you for the constant fear and panic about the whole thing but I wish everyone luck, health and happiness throughout.
much love to all and good baby growing vibes all round.

StealthPolarBear · 27/02/2009 13:32

kooky, is there any chance you could call your MN on Monday to discuss it?
Good luck.

April - well spotted, I hadn't realised I'd done that. I kind of want both...but there's definitely only one there so that won't happen I think it's a girl, but I thought that about DS as well

StealthPolarBear · 27/02/2009 13:33

evie glad your scan went well

StealthPolarBear · 27/02/2009 13:33

your MW, not your MN - I am an idiot!

MummyWilliams · 27/02/2009 14:56

StealthPolarBear - you're not an idiot! Just pregnant LOL! xxx

StealthPolarBear · 27/02/2009 15:12

My brain feels fried at the moment!

Snowfalls108 · 27/02/2009 16:19

Ah Stealth - I know what you mean! I'm sure I'm not half as with it as I am normally.

So all those who recommended not using books are you volunteering to be gurus to us first time mums?

Kooky - sounds like they are on the case, and are there to help. Fingers are crossed for you.

I've got a scan on Monday, can't wait for it.
I had a tooth taken out yesterday, DH is away, and I got quite teary last night. My face was throbbing, I was exhausted (getting into bed at 8.30pm) and wasn't sure what pain killers I could take. Rang my aunt who's a doc and she was able to reassure me that paracetamol was OK. Did have one of those all the worlds against me moments though. This is around the time I would expect my period - do you think you still get PMT while pregnant? or am I being completely daft.

Looking forward to the BabyShow on Sunday.

ladylush · 27/02/2009 16:22

Thanks for the kind messages
Congrats to those who have had good scans
Stayfrosty - I got my TFT results today. TSH high at 2.9 - thyroxine increased to 150mcg. T4 good though at 19.5 I asked G.P whether the high TSH could've caused any problem with my pregnancy and she said it's unlikely. Seeing the endo next thurs. Good luck with your appt.
Kooky - good advice on here. If concerned, need questions answered etc. you could always call the fetal unit back for further clarification - or speak to your m/w. The fetal unit might be able to help more in terms of answering questions about the optimum dates are for checking that particular trisomy (assume it is a trisomy?).
I'm sure this weekend will be difficult for you, hope you are able to do some nice things to take your mind off this at least a little bit.
Still bleeding here, though much lighter today. Hoping it could be stopping. I had some good news - have been accepted by the hospital I wanted. Peachy - where are you having your lo?
Lovely sunshine today. Hope it lasts

StealthPolarBear · 27/02/2009 16:26

Snowfalls, I think it's normal, and I think it['s related to not being able to take anything (except paracetamol of course). I have a horrible horrible cold, and although all the remedies etc are just placebos I think they do help with state of mind. Hope your tooth's feeling better soon.
ladylush hope your bleeding is stopping, good news about hospital x

blue76 · 27/02/2009 16:34

Snowfalls - PMT is a pushover compared to the moodswings Ive been having...probably being made worse by bf not knowing how to react when the steam starts coming out of my ears!! Also, I had a tooth out a couple of weeks ago. You can use 'corsodyl' mouthwash. It's great, keep it in your mouth for as long as poss and it numbs the pain. Ive just read the back of the bottle 'no special precautions are needed if you are pregnant but consult your dr or dentist first'. Hope this helps!!

Re. breastfeeding. This is just a little nugget of info for first-time mummys. Although I didn't find out until after I'd had my first! I had a terrible time getting her to latch on. I didn't try until she was a couple of hrs old, as I was too tired. Then when I became pregnant again, I read that if you put the baby to breast within 20 mins of giving birth, the baby can latch on straight away. Apparently they lose the ability to suck after about half an hour, meaning they have to 're-learn'. Anyhoo, I tried it and sure enough, baby latched on within seconds!! Took over a year to stop breastfeeding....haha

ladylush · 27/02/2009 16:48

blue - ds was put straight to my breast when born. The m/w should encourage this (if you plan to bf) - it's strange that you weren't advised to do this. Not that this made bf a doddle mind.......it was very difficult. Feck knows how I managed for 7 months. I think I was quite possibly insane by the end of it though

Thanks Stealth It was good news to get for the weekend.

Snowfalls108 · 27/02/2009 16:49

Hi Blue, thanks for info about corsodyl - off the pharmacy for me.

Mood swings are lovely aren't they. Why does nature do this do you think? Is it a protection thing?

BabyLady · 27/02/2009 17:53

Blue, thanks for the info about breast feeding. I am a first timer and would definitely like to go this route but I know it can be tricky starting out - especially when so tired.

Anyone going to the baby show? Is it just one big sales push or quite worthwhile - advice anyone from previous years?

erhianj · 27/02/2009 18:00

Evening all, have been lurking for a bit.
I have been wondering that about 'morning sickness' and whether that is a protection thing against stuff that your body thinks is bad for you? Also I am wondering whether anyone has as many symptoms as me! My family are laughing at me now cos I seem to have everything going! Sickness, constant nausea, stuffy nose,sore(.)(.),bad taste in mouth, too much saliva,dizzyness,spots...am even starting to 'grow' freckles!! Am not a hyperchondriac I promise!
Have my first scan next fri...? twins?!

blue76 · 27/02/2009 18:23

Hey erhianj, morning sickness is apparently caused by the hormone changes, also hence the spots! ive acquired quite a few of em. Especially on my chest!! Feel like an obsessed weirdo here but tonic water really is good at easing nausea. I live on the stuff! It tastes gross but the quinine in it is supposed to suppress nausea. How many weeks are you? I'm 10.3 and nausea has ebbed.

Hey folks, theres a bloke on ebay who does a 'just for fun' gender predictor. It's 99p. You pay for it and he emails 2 questions. Then he emails and gives his prediction, with a few 'facts' to support it. Read his feedback and most of the predictions are correct, something like 11 wrong out of over 800. He told me I'm having a boy...

nitnat84 · 27/02/2009 18:35

Yay, had my dating scan today. All was good. Strong heartbeat and was moving around. Such a wonderful feeling. Can not stop looking at the pic. x

StealthPolarBear · 27/02/2009 18:57

blue, not sure if what you've read about 20 minutes is right. I think that anytime in the first hour or so is fine - the baby won't forget how to suckle in this time.
BabyLady, it is good to get as much information as possible and some women do have problems, but plenty don't - I didn't really have any problems so you might be fine. Sorry that sounds dozey, can't get my words out, but I read all the books and expected to have all the problems last time and was pleasantly surprised!

StealthPolarBear · 27/02/2009 18:58

ooh don't think I'll be able to resist the gender predictor...
nit nat, . I know what you mean about the picture! Were your dates right?
