The other thread was too long and wouldn't let me add a new message.

I am 8+3 and as my previous m/c's have been at 9 weeks.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Good luck blue. Kooky, they probably just want to monitor you for something, I had a similar call, and they've just booked me in for some extra tests, but nothing urgent or worrying. Just keeping their eye on things.

peachygirl · 24/02/2009 20:12

Hello everyone. Great news abot the scans.

I got a maternity T shirt off ebay the other day A great bargain.
My last pregnancy was a winter one so lots of my clothes won't be that suitable. especially the trouserss which are all strechy jersy fabric.
I'll look around when I really need to get some although may resort to baggy linen trousers and bump bands. I had a few short sleeve tops and will need proably a couple more for work (the room I'm based in gets very very hot in the winter and is worse in the summer)

bigbang · 24/02/2009 20:26

Great news detoxdiva & pooka!

Blue sorry about your bleeding, good luck for tomorrow.

KK I agree with audreyraines, most probably you're a little bit anemic. I would also be very worried and frustrated that I had to wait to find out, totally understandable. I hope you get some answers asap tomorrow.

My mum and mil where in the delivery room 45 mins after ds was born! Didn't mind my mum being there so soon but was a bit about mil (neither was supposed to be there but ended up in hosp instead of home and they couldn't keep away). Turns out I was on such a high from giving birth I barely noticed them, was totally overwhelmed with my baby. My dad and stepmum came to the hospital that evening too. Had a few visitors within the first few days when back at home. I didn't mind at all, I felt very alone in the middle of the night with a screaming baby who I was struggling to feed and to have a friendly face pop by (with food!) was a lifesaver for me anyway! I expect its someone else's idea of hell!

ladylush · 24/02/2009 20:31

Great results Pooka You must be so relieved.

Good luck tomorrow Blue. Fingers crossed.

mummyhill · 24/02/2009 20:35

Great news on the scans.

Good luck Blue.

I found it very tiring having visitors at home on the day I was allowed home after having 6hr discharge from the hospital with both of mine. I am hoping that they will leave it a few days and then pop round with food, make their own drinks, wash up after themselves and or ask if they can do anything to help (and mean it) instead of expecting me to be up and about and waiting on them hand and foot.

My parents only pop their head round the door and do ask if I need anything when they phone to check if it is ok to come and see us. My sister and best friend are also quite considerate and will make their own cuppa and load the dishwasher for me. Tis the in laws and some of the other friends of the family who irritate me.

As long as they all remember to talk to the other children as well as coo over the baby I shall try not to get upset. A lot of people ignored dd on their first visit when ds arrived and it was very hurtful to her and us.

kookykid · 24/02/2009 20:47

Thanks for the reassurance, guys.
I am really hoping it is something easily fixable!
Will let you know tomorrow.

blue76 · 25/02/2009 07:18

Thanks for the good wishes guys...2 1/2 hrs to go! Will let you know how I get on...It's amazing how early children put you through tons of worry!!!

When I had 2nd child, I got the mw to wheel the phone in 15 mins after I had given birth! Phoned as many people as I possibly could...didn't mind having a full house as well. Was v different with first child though, baby blues kicked in after about 3 days and I didn't want anyone but my mum for a week! (Mum had been present at the birth, standing at the foot of the bed delivering a full running commentary on what was emerging from my nether regions!!!

There's no way of telling how you will feel after the birth, re visitors. Just wait and see how it goes - make no promises to let people come and see you. My best friend fell out with me when I had my first - she got all offended by my 'baby blues'....

Anyhoo, nervous waffling here now....will post later after scan!!!

detoxdiva · 25/02/2009 08:08

Good luck with the scan blue

Morning everyone!
My scan is less then a week away (next tuesday so only just!)! Very scared yet very excited at the same time. I'm dying to tell people now, so i hope everythings goes ok, i'm 12.5 days today.
Went out and bought a few bigger work tops last night, Im not showing yet but my lower stomach part is starting to pop out a bit like i'm bloated, im dying for a visable bump!!!

Hope your all well this morning & that all your scans continue to bring good news! xx

kookykid · 25/02/2009 10:58

Not good news from the blood test reults.

Baby has 1:46 chance of having Edward's syndrome, which is "incompatible with life". Am utterly distraught. This wasn't even on my radar - my worse case scenario was Downe's, which I'd already pretty much decided I could live with after a year of TTC and an early m/c.

I now have to choose between an "invasive" test at 15 weeks or wait for the 20 week scan, which they could do as early as 16 weeks.

Can't believe I have more anxious waiting.

detoxdiva · 25/02/2009 11:03

Kooky - sorry to hear about your test results, however worrying it is, please don't assume the worst. A mnetter on my ttc thread had similar results and following a CVS procedure has been told all is perfectly well with her little girl. Yes, the odds sound high, but it still means there's a 98% chance that your baby doesn't have Edwards. Get plenty of support and advice about what the best course of action for you and your dh is now.

lemonmoon · 25/02/2009 11:09

so sorry to hear that Kooky - you must be gutted after TTC for so long. Detox is right to point out that there is still a high chance that everything is all right. A post on one of the other threads might bring out lots of people who have been through the same thing, so I'm sure you'll be able to get the kind of support you'll need. Fingers crossed for you.

bigbang · 25/02/2009 11:49

Oh kooky I am so sorry to hear that. I don't really know what to say other than to echo what the others have said. I hope you can get some support for the next few weeks, waiting and not knowing must be awful. I know it doesn't help much but I will keep you in my thoughts and my fingers crossed for you x

blue76 · 25/02/2009 13:37

Well all's okay - baby measuring 10.1 weeks. They scanned for what seemed like ages and couldn't find source of the bleed. It was only a v small amount yesterday. Managed to wangle 4 pics (wanted to show my 2 dd's all's ok).

Kooky - a close friend of mine was told that the baby she was carrying very probably HAD Edward's Syndrome. There was a cyst on the baby's brain - this usually indicates the syndrome apparently. Well, the 'baby' is now nearly 5 years old and there's absolutely nothing wrong with her. The cyst had disappeared by 20 week scan. Good luck with everything.

pooka · 25/02/2009 14:21

Great news blue.

Kooky - the odds may seem high, but in percentages you have a much greater liklihood of the baby being fine. Have you been offered a CVS? ONly ask, because I have lots of friends who have had these and they have had no ill-effect and the advantage is that you then have a better idea of what you are dealing with. Worth checking with the hospital their own stats regarding impact of invasive testing rather than the national figures, if you see what I mean.

mumtobe23 · 25/02/2009 16:01

Really sorry to hear your news Kooky I do hope things turn out ok for you.

Please can somebody help me! Its about benefits when I go on mat leave.

Both me & DP work full time & earn around £34k combined, however, when I go on mat leave my income after the first 6 weeks will be the SMP (around £123 a week after april).
Obviously I cannot live on that what with bills, mortgage, general living costs & a new baby etc to pay out for
.
Apart from Tax credits & child bebefit (I intend on claiming as I've worked since 16 so i'm getting something back!) is there anything else I can claim for?
I have read a few threads about money but I cant seem to find a list of things that, as a full time working person, I can claim back for when I'm on mat leave.

mummyhill · 25/02/2009 16:14

Speaking from personal experience you get your smp which will be 90% of your average weekly wage or £123 which ever is the least, your child benefit and tax credits. Our income is similar and we just have to suck it in and cope because we cannot claim anything else.

mummyhill · 25/02/2009 16:16

Should also add that because I only do 15 hours a week my smp will be less than £123 a week.

kookykid · 25/02/2009 16:38

Thanks for your support, it makes a big difference as not ready to talk to anyone in RL about this just yet.

I am feeling a bit calmer now, after a few hours sleep. Feeling quite numb, but really appreciate everyone's comments. From my brief search on MN for other Edward's threads it seems that it is still very rare. Just a lot to get my head round.

I have decided to wait for the scan, as I don't want to risk m/c a healthy baby. Perhaps if they were offering the amnio now I would take that risk, but if it's only a week's difference I can manage that. I am starting to compile a list of questions for the MW.

Sorry to bring everyone down. Really good news about your scan, Blue.

FairySparkles · 25/02/2009 16:46

Hi mum2be - I've just been on the phone to tax credits the other day actually and it would seem that as good honest hard working people we're entitled to just about sweet fa!! unless you earn under £17,5oo pa(roughly) and thats combined wage - your only entitled to child benefit - £17.50 pw ish, smp £123 pw and tax credits of around £10.50 pw - so not good news I'm afriad!
These are only my rough workings so don't take me totally literally - best people to speak to is your local citizens advice as they will point you in all the right directions.
Also don't forget ladies we're entitled to a Health in Pregnancy Grant of £190 now starting from April which can be claimed once your 25 wks pregnant - claim forms available from your midwife or if your midwife hasn't got any (like mine ) phone them direct on 0845 366 7885.
Every little helps eh girls!!

FairySparkles · 25/02/2009 16:53

Kookykid - I didn't see your post, we must have been writing at the same time - sending big positive hugs your way hun, I'm sure everything will be fine, my friend was told her baby's chances of having several serious illnessess were very high, but she turned out to be a totally healthy bouncing baby!

mumtobe23 · 25/02/2009 17:21

Thanks for the info fairysparkles, its as i thought, i agree about the hard working people get FA it makes me so mad some times! Hey-ho better get saving, the £190 grant will help a bit though

Glad your feeling slightly better kookykid, think positive. xoxoxox
