Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
ReeBee · 13/02/2009 14:48

Hello everyone

This is my first post although I've been reading, laughing and empathising for a few weeks now.... It's good to know I'm not the only one with a ridiculously sweet tooth, a bloody snotty nose, an unwatched Davina DVD and a protesting set of scales! Pregnancy - what a delight!

I'm due 13th May; we know it's a boy (DH lasted about 30 seconds into the 20 week scan before begging and pleading to know) and it's our first so everything is new.

I just wanted to share re pelvic floor exercises - I mentioned to DH the other day that I'd been good over the last couple of weeks and had done some every day. 'No you haven't!' he said indignantly 'I haven't seen you doing any exercises!'

Dear god - and to think I'm having a baby with this man!

alapala · 13/02/2009 16:36

Welcome ReeBee.

frazz - I think Bay is pretty...but (dont hit me) for a girl... Ow.

Madrid is LOVELY today. the sun is out and it has suddenly lept to 18c so much so that we have just been lounging in the park on the picnic blanket. Still sub zero at night though from the altitude so really a bit bizzare but such a relief to be out and about again..and with the lovely new Bee. Off to Cordoba tomorrow for the night leaving DS here with his Granny, I think I need to dig out some leopard print pants fast - DH is desperate!

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 13/02/2009 16:53

Frazz

I rather like Bay but I think it would be best for a dark-haired boy for some reason?

Is your LO likely to be dark or fair, do you know? I'm curious because I have a little pale flower in DD1 (blonde/blue) and a little brown bear in DD2 (brown/brown) and I can't decide which this LO will be.

Plus, I'm a nosy old hag.

llareggub · 13/02/2009 18:19

I think I like Bay but I would worry that I would go off it after a while. It is hard to explain why I think that. Bay makes me think of a sandy haired boy, isn't that strange?

We've had a 12 week old baby over to play today with his mother. DS was so sweet! Everytime the baby needed changing he ran off to get the changing mat, wipes and a nappy. I was the proud mummy indeed! It was lovely to see a newborn again, but I'm now even more scared of how we'll cope come the end of April, yikes!

Frazzled- not sure what i think of the name Bay - it's not one i've come across before. No strong feelings either way.

I got my new ju ju be bay and it is very lovely (loads of pockets!) but not as big as i thought it would be (considering they do bags which are a lot smaller too) so it's probably only big enough for when i am out with one DC. Luckily i've bought the bigger bag too!

Belgianchocs- for one dreadful moment i thought you were talking about me when you said you had to answer silly questions from a buyer about some maternity jeans you were selling on ebay , as i did buy some jeans the other day and asked lots of questions but they weren't as ridiculous as yours (thank goodness).

Momino · 13/02/2009 20:08

reebee, welcome to the thread!

alapala, v jealous of your weather.

i've uploaded to MN a couple of pics of my bump but it was so difficult to take a photo of myself and do the bump justice. in my opinion, it's bigger than the picture.

PIL are here and taking care of girls so i've had a relaxing day. lovely.

hope you're all well.

Polony · 13/02/2009 20:09

Hello reebee I've never done this before either (have a baby). And I will actually put myself on the list one day.

dive that was the worst sounding dream. Its worse than the one I had last night I think - was in the water at beach and a huge tsunami came up and we tried to dive under it (like you do) but the water was too shallow). It didn't hurt us though. Hows that for a metaphor?

Anyone else addicted to the bathtub?
I had a bath last night, and this has happened a few times - I got out and my hands suddenly became very red and sore/itchy, burning like I was having an allergic reaction. It hasn't happened at any other time, but its so wierd that I figure it must be something to do with being pregnant. Anyone else had anything like it?

bekkaboo · 13/02/2009 20:35

Polony yeah bathtub hands too!! No idea why though, but though it might be swelling going down and the the slin a bit puffy and red iyswim?

Polony · 13/02/2009 21:04

My partner says we both have the same tropical disease bek

Polony · 13/02/2009 21:16

alapala I am jealous of your weather too. We went to Madrid weekend before last, was our first time in Spain, I loved it. Had a few food issues though - like the time the mozzarella in my salad had been substituted for particularly fruity soft rindy goats cheese and I had a mouth full of it before realising I was not eating mozzarella, elegantly spat it out on my napkin. My lovely DP gave me his salad, which was duck, and I had a mouthful of that too before I realised it was cured not cooked but I swallowed that (theres only so much you can fit into a napkin). I swore I would never let all that food advice "get" to me, but lo and behold. Everything on the menus was either cured or soft cheese or shellfish or all of the above. Which kills me, I love all that stuff - I can't believe I went to Madrid and left without eating paella.

bekkaboo · 13/02/2009 21:37

look even worse if i put hand cream on, really sore looking

Polony · 13/02/2009 22:26

Thats what happened to me last night. I wasn't sure though if it was the cream making it worse. Red, puffy, and in the lines on the hand really red and irritated. I ended up shoving them under the cold tap, that seemed to work. Thats the worst i've had it, I'd noticed it a few other times but it wasn't that bad, just itchy.

llareggub · 13/02/2009 22:39

All you others with bath hands, do you have a red, itchy rash? Mine gets better during the night and then gets worse during the day. I've just put it down to frequent hand-washing, although my consultant wasn't convinced and sent me off for a liver function test. Mine is really quite itchy, with raised red spots, but confined to my wrists and hands. It is very odd.

bekkaboo · 13/02/2009 22:43

ive seen docs with mine in the past said it derma bla dee bla something and to use hc cream which if course you when PG. Mine is mainly due to cold weather, chapped hands, yes it is itching and raised bumps more than anything.... its very attractive! my hands look like should be on an old woman

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 14/02/2009 09:28

Momooooooomino

Your bump is fabulous, it's so round!

I will have to try and take some of my slightly less impressive bump (I am probably about 4 stone heavier than you, though, so my bump is buried under a layer of winter fat) today after I have chauffered my children to their various social functions without a word of thanks

pulapula · 14/02/2009 13:39

Afternoon all,

For any ebay users out there, i would appreciate some advice. I won some jeans which were listed as new: without tags and there was no photo so i took a gamble as i thought i can always sell them on if i don't like them. Only cost me £2.20 with combined postage so maybe £3.50. When they arrived, they were well worn, bobbly round the waist band, faded (greyish when they were listed as black).

I emailed the seller and they apologised saying their daughter did the listing and was copying the format from another listing and didn't change the detail.

Now i can't be bothered arranging to return them, but can i do anything else apart from provide negative feedback- i think i was expecting them to offer me some money back...

LoobyLou36 · 14/02/2009 15:19

Hi All.

pulapula I would have expected a refund from the seller. That's just not on .Have you tried asking for one?

momino cool bump!

I would put a pic of mine on here - it's nowhere near as tidy as yours tho but then I'm a lot fatter

divedaisy · 14/02/2009 15:42

Welcome ReeBee!!! at your husbands knowledge of pelvic floor exercises!! Let it be sais he'd soon know when you haven;t done them....!!!

frazz - I've never heard of Bay... I think of Bay City Rollers, or Bay tree???? I do like Bailey and agree that you could use Bay as a nickname. But i also think it could grow on me... (excuse the pun!!)

Managed to speak to DH last night about baby names. He lauhged at me reading the baby name book - and I commented that coming up with a sensible choice of names rests with me - he disagreed by saying he keeps them to himself! So I encouraged him to go through the list I had made. He didn't like Phoebe, Maddison, Darcie, Zarah, Nathaniel, Harrison (Oh No!!), Reuben. He does like Victoria, Sophia with either Rose (a variant of my first name) or maybe Grace. And he also likes Oliver (which I think is my favourite boys name). Now he put on Thomas to the list which is his late fathers name. So I said if your adding your dad's name I'm adding mine - David. He thought it was absurd cos there are bad memeories there. But also fond ones too. My dad disappeaered over 20 years ago, but there were a lot of hurts - stuff I reckon you can all guess, but I don't want to go over here. I miss my dad and I forgive him... Also I do like the name David, better than Thomas anyway. Does Oliver David Thomas XX (one syllabal surname) sound OK?? Oliver Thomas David??

As for Valentines day - I feel so unsexy today. Have bought dh some new clothes (T-shirt and shirt - just in case he runs out of ironed stuff again!!!LOL) and shaving balm etc and a funny DVD to snuggle up to tonight. I did get mysefl some new boosting mascara and new lippy. But just feeling so uncomfortable at the moment - and very breathless. Anyway DS is at Nans and I got a lie-in this morning which was so nice, even though I didn't settle until 2:30am.. So I'm going to go now and see what I can do wiith myself! Have a lovely Valentines evening ladies!!! Bring out the leopard print sexy knickers!!!!

Belgianchocolates · 14/02/2009 15:45

pulapula Before you go and leave feedback. Write to them again and say you'd like a feedback. Sometimes you need to ask for it.

On the subject of maternity jeans: has anyone ever owned a comfortable pair ever? This is my third pregnancy and I sitll haven't found a comfortable pair. Firstly I'm a bit restricted, because I need long length trousers, but what's out there usually sinks after a few steps. Who owns a comfortable pair of maternity jeans and where did they get them from, because I want a pair!

momino what a lovely and neat sticky outy bump!

Polony · 14/02/2009 15:51

What a gorgeous bump momino. i love your daughters names too.

Bathtub hands - I get red raised patches, a bit like I've been stung by something, not little bumps. So quite rashy. It only seemed to take an hour to go down and cold water helped I don't seem to have it at any other time of day, so wasn't thinking it was cholestasis but being the hyperchondriac I am if I had it at any other time than after the bath I would probably get my liver checked.

llareggub how'd you go the other night in the end?

More strange dreams - one where I deliberately abandoned our dear little cat in his basket by the side of the road and another where I was butchering him to eat (horribly graphic too) and explaining that this was just a part of life, that you can't get too attached, you know...

Belgianchocolates · 14/02/2009 16:04

I don't get bath tub hands, but am very sensitive to any kind of bubble bath, so I generally bathe in just plain old water. I tend to get thrush from bubble bath or any other kind of soap. I'm so sensitive that even 1 bath will be enough. So maybe it's the bubble bath that sets it off with those of you that get rashes? Pregnancy can make your skin more sensitive, or at least behave differently from normally.

OK - I've changed the list so there's only one date to update. I havent recalcualted everyones progress - I'll do that next week when I update!!

Away to get gorgeous / DH has informed me he's cooking tonight.. so need to make a bit of an effort... fell like a whale...

divedaisy · 14/02/2009 17:32

polony - I know what you mean by horribly graphic dreams - I had one similar to your cats after I had DS - I dreamt I had put his baby grow on back to front but it looked like his head was the wrong way round. In my dream I tried to fix it... I won't continue here but enough to say when I woke up I was ina total state I thought it was real...

I haven't noticed 'bath hands', but have noticed red blotches on my thighs when I get out of a bath soak! And the water isnt necessarily hot either...

pulapula - the seller clearly has not described the jeans accurately and you have every right to get a full refund. It is not enough for her to 'blame' her daughter. Ebay survives on trust and sellers describing items accurately is how it works. Try contacting her again and explain how you feel about the description of the item - ie totally misleading and inaccurate! Maybe email ebay and ask them for advice. Does the items listing state if the seller accepts returns?? I would be furious if I had to pay the return postage also! Finally, don't be worried about you receiving negative feedback because if I rememeber correctly ebay have changed the rules meaning that sellers cannot leave negative feedback for buyers! Even if they did, you have every leg to stand on to get the feedback/comments removed from your history.

Anyway I've straightened my frizzy hair, found something nice to wear, drizzled myself in Jean Paul Gaultier perfume (just love it) and applied makeup with dark smokey seductive (stop looking at the bump) eyes! Garnished with some bling - think I'll do!
