Ok so I'll start it off.

Has anyone else had a huge increase in discharge? It's gone from clear and not too much to thick and white, and copious amounts.

shit, had growth scan yesterday (37 +4) and baby is 8 flipping pounds already

have to bring on labour somehow - going to try all the tricks I have heard of

can someone remind me about raspberry leaf tea?

wrolf · 19/02/2009 11:01

sorry, dinny here btw

Boobz · 19/02/2009 11:12

8 lbs already! That's scary.

Corgi, I have only put on 7kg since the beginning of pregnancy, and don't seem to have added any weight at all over the last month. But I'm just 36 weeks today so I imagine I will fill out over the next 4 weeks!

Right, must jump in shower and get ready for lunch #3 for this week

See you later ladies xxx

wrolf · 19/02/2009 11:24

shit, I know, am really scared

consultant seeing me at 40 weeks to discuss section (praying I go into labour before then)

people keep telling me how skinny I am though - God knows how (not my stomach obv!) must be a proportion thing!

laumiere · 19/02/2009 11:49

Wow, I'm so jealous of some of you! Am 37+2 and put on about 10kg! Still with DS1 (the one who arrived 9 weeks early) I put on about 14kg before 31w!

CaptainKarvol · 19/02/2009 11:53

wrolf/dinny, raspberry leaf tea: tastes vile, give heartburn, apparently improves something about the uterus to make labour easier. I don't think it brings on labour, but is supposed to shorten it. I have a box in the cupboard from last time, am trying to face the idea of drinking it...

I'm rather of you skinny minnies - I have no idea how much weight I have gained, but it's got to be more than 6-7kg. More like 16-17, i would have thought. But then I've eaten porridge, 3 bowls of rice pops, 2 mini pitta breads and two slices of cheese so far today, so all my own fault...

I thought (just from reading MN, you understand) that growth scans were notoriously unreliable - huge babies actually being small, small babies being big etc - so do not panic yet!

BTW, anyone know at what stage we need to get measured for nursing bras? Is it after 36 weeks?

meep · 19/02/2009 12:02

I'm going to get measured at 37 weeks - simply because that is when my mat leave starts and because I am currently in denial about how huge my norks are even before my milk comes in!

CaptainKarvol · 19/02/2009 12:15

thanks meep. I'm on mat leave since yesterday (well, A/L to be strictly accurate, with M/L kicking in at 38 weeks), and am trying to motivate myself to go into town. Tis not working, have been on mn and YouTube (homebirth videos) all morning

lizziemun · 19/02/2009 12:23

Wrolf growth scans aren't that acurate.

Wrolf I can't remember if you have children already (sorry), but both my dd's have been 9lb plus and i have had 2 very quick births.

I am at the consultants this afternoon as there are some concerns about how this baby is laying.

MKG · 19/02/2009 12:53

Oh wrolf/dinny--I'm sure this is not playing well in your mind at all.

As a BTDT mom there are still things I'm afraid of because I know what to expect. My biggest advice to the first timers though would be to allow yourself to mourn the loss of your former self and embrace the new person that is there.

Slickbird · 19/02/2009 12:58

Flowers Welcome and thanks for the advice. I'm sorry to hear that you are struggling with yours too. I think the most frustrating thing is you can't actively TAKE anything to increase them the way you do with iron, don't you think? Anyway, I hope all continues to go well for your levels and that they stay up!

Meep Oh I really felt for you when you said what your DD's reaction was to you both holding another baby. It's heartbreaking even tho, you know they have to learn that the world doesn't just revolve around them! (even if it secretly does). I have read that the best way to cope with it (apart from the ubiqutous 'present from the baby') is to reinforce that the baby is "Janet's little brother/sister" so that you are putting them at the centre of things and that "Janet's little brother is looking at them" (They love showing off!) etc etc. It is like pandering to a diva I find, but I guess whatever works!!

Currently tho, with my DD2 it's more if I cuddle my DH she pushes me out of the way (charming) or if I cuddle her older sister, she pushes HER out of the way. I guess it shows who she likes best!!

Titchy - Good luck with the scan and all that follows!

Corgi - TBH it's a mixed bag. On the one hand, it can be nerve-racking first time round as you don't know what you're in for and conversely, just as scary when you do!! First time tho, yes it changes everything, but it's so incredible and amazing that what you don't expect is the joy they bring you and you really will just love it - I'm sure.

Don't be worried about a bit of hard work, that never did anyone any harm, and also the bonus with having a first is you can spend as much time staring at them as you want - with a second and a third you just don't have the time.

One that note, you would think third time round I would know exactly when labour is starting but I'm still going, "oooh, that was a strong BH, I wonder..." "Oooh, there's some back cramp, feels like period pain, could it be..." But no. Still here.

wrolf · 19/02/2009 13:00

SB - am exactly the same!! keep thinking it may be starting but it's just bh or the baby sitting in some weird place!

am hoping scan is unreilable!

laweaselmys · 19/02/2009 13:15

Good luck today titchy

I slept loads today. I think my mini-nesting spree has caught up with me. I've got an appointment with the midwife this afternoon though, or I'd be quite tempted to go back to bed!

pipsy76 · 19/02/2009 13:18

Arrghh, DS has just come out in chickenpox rash today, just been to see gp who has advised me to get a blood test to confirm if I'm immune, no such thing as a straight forward pregnancy!

Slickbird · 19/02/2009 13:53

Pipsy Hope you and your DS are ok. Last thing you need!

Dinny - How can they tell what weight the baby is? Just by measurements is it?

wrolf · 19/02/2009 14:08

yes, they measure head, abdomen and femur and that gives them est weight (all those measurements were on 95th centile for this baby)

If it helps I was over estimated with by 1.5 and 3 lbs for ds1 and ds2 respectively.

I've heard that a good practitioner is a better judge of size than an ultrasound. I told my midwife once that I took the measurements with a grain of salt, and she said that she agrees.

Speaking of which I'm off for mine in a few minutes. But I all of a sudden I feel very nauseaous. Hopefully I can get a date for an induction today if I go past my dates.

Wrolf Had a growth scan at 32 weeks and was told the baby was on the 97th centile and was almost 6 lbs back then, because ds was 8lb 4 with a normal birth they are not concerned and will only check weight again if I get to my due date which fingers crossed I wont!
Saw midwife yesterday and fundal height was 38, I am only 35 weeks so kinda ties in with the big baby theory but have heard there is a large margin for error on these scans so will just need to wait and see!
On the side discovered I have a uti and Thrush on antibiotics but had to get a horrible pressary for the thrush I am now jst hoping it is all cleared up for the birth

Wheelybug · 19/02/2009 16:27

I have been growth-scanned throughout both my pregnancies although for the opposite reasons (IUGR in first pregnancy - and therefore monitoring in this one). When I am given estimated baby weight it is caveated by +/- 10% and from everything I have read (on mumsnet mainly !) they are v. v. inaccurate. That said, dd was measured as 2 kg at 37 weeks last time and she was delivered at 37+4 (just - was about 1am !) and was 2.047 kg so pretty bang on. I suspect though its easier to be more accurate with a small baby as it must be easier to get the measurements right.

And in terms of delivery - dd may have been tiny but she was a b*gger to get out so I don't size has any relation to ease of birth (although am guessing a big baby might smart a bit ).

I'm kind of a BTDT Mum but feel like a first timer. Didn't go into labour/ didn't really labour (had a few hours of fake syntocin contractions) so have no idea about whether I'm likely to be early or late (although suspect i will be late if you go by maternal family history) or what 'normal' labour is like. I guess the advantage is I've had a pretty horrendous experience first time round so at least I'm approaching it wiht an 'anything can happen' attitude.

wrolf · 19/02/2009 16:39

OMG, phw, I had exactly the same about a week or so ago and spent 18 hours in hospital - was SUCH bad pain, couldn't stop puking in agony!

wonder what it is? they didn't know at the hosp, said it was one of those pregnancy things...

MKG, that does make me feel better, thanks!

kanga5 · 19/02/2009 16:40

As a BTDT mum I am envious of first timers who can spend their mat leave going out to lunch , the movies, etc.. I remember that as well as sitting about breathing in relaxing lavender in my darkened living room. Hmmmmm, none of that anymore...
The ins and outs of when labour starts is still scary though, even when you've done it before.

I agree growth scans can be a bit out but it must be nice to be reassured all the same. My ds3 was scanned at term, can't remember why, and he was guessed to be 7lbs and was about that. I've had 8lb babies as well, and they were the same to push out OWWWWWWW!!!

wrolf · 19/02/2009 17:00

BTDT? sorry, prob thick ques!

mmm, my first was 6.7 and 2nd was 9.3 and there was a HELL of a lot of difference getting them out

CaptainKarvol · 19/02/2009 17:16

BTDT - my best guess is 'been there, done that!'
