BB, perhaps not the coil then (Did you ever see that Grey's Anatomy where the man's penis piercing got caught on the woman's coil? )

Nutty, luckily DP usually makes his comments fairly quietly - until someone winds him up (by barging past his pregnant fiancé, for example ) & then he's full of loud complaints that usually have to be shushed.

Boffin, I'd not even heard of the Persona machine, but just googled - I'm glad I wasn't having to represent them in court! Still, you have a delicious smell around your house as a result

I was really close to giving the Moses basket a miss, but you've persuaded me - it's not a lot of money really & I think it'll be easy to get the money's worth based on what you've said. It won't even take up much room to store, as it can keep other foldable things inside it, I suppose. I'm quite pleased I'm convinced, because they do look lovely.

SpringySunshine · 31/01/2009 21:52

babypringle, I meant that it sounded interesting in a temporary capacity only - I can't imagine anything much worse than being wheelchair bound forever. I hope I didn't cause any offence.

Hello all, been such a long time stupid work. I am currently avoiding a huge pile of marking, and wondering whether it is madness to break into a box of 12 cookies....

I love my moses basket, cute and useful albeit not for long. And getting it ready is quick and easy, and youcan tuck a little toy in there whilst you're waiting for the baby and it makes you smile every time you see it...am I an actual lunatic???

Thanks Nutty

I am currently paranoid about..(every post could start like this) lots of discharge (sorry if TMI)...HOW do you know if it is waters trickling or just normal pregnancy mush? Smell/colour? Normally wouldn;t care but bump small and seems to be shrinking

mathsmummy, go for the cookies! & what Nutty said about the discharge. At this point I think the bump seeming smaller could just be the baby descending? But obviously the usual 'get it checked if you're worried' thing applies.

springy - lol - am actually watching that one as I type - how bizarre - can't sleep so it's American Drama Box Sets all the way!

I am also with you on the moses basket - question to Boff / Nutty / Mums - is it better to have them on the stand or on the floor? have heard lots of different opinions!

Mathsmummy, I hope you are not a lunatic as I have made up the cot in the nursery with lots of blanket layers and have put in the cuddly toy and toy thing in there and go in from time to time to imagine the baby in it... (8 weeks to go, 8 weeks to go....)

Also re discharge, Nutty is right (think she is taking on the assistant Boff roll! but do go and get it checked it you are at all worried - better to put your mind at rest!

Ok well am sure none of you are up at 6 on a Sunday so will wait for you to wake up x

Speak soon!

BB

Springy just on the coil - some of my friends swear by it but it seems that if you suffer from period pain it intensifies (by what feels like about 1000!) so just have a chat with your dr as to what is best for you?

Surely a baby is contraceptive enough!! , if DH thinks he is coming anywhere near me after what he has put me through for 9 months he has another thing coming (hee hee!!!)

OP posts:
SpringySunshine · 01/02/2009 09:15

I think being awake at 8.30 on a Sunday is pretty impressive. Especially given being a student & all. & yet BB's already here, posting at half 6 - there's just no competing with that

I am, however, currently fighting the urge to be sick (complete with extreme hot flushes), so we'll see how that goes I've just made myself some porridge, but can't face eating it just now - but know that if I don't & I am sick then it'll be pretty unpleasant. Right now I am definitely signing up to the 'he can keep that thing well away from me' school of thought

As for the coil, I do have really bad period pain (I've been on the pill since I was 13 to try to moderate that, long before I was using it as a contraceptive) so it may not be a great option for me. But yeah, I shall have a proper chat with the GP & see what's suggested. There are probably some threads on MN worth searching when I have nothing better to do.

The most pressing question of the morning then, BB, is this - McDreamy or McSteamy?

Hope everyone's okay. Let us know how you are, mathsmummy. I wonder if we'll hear from frekkles today?

BoffinMum · 01/02/2009 09:22

Babypringle, I know you are absolutely right but as this is hopefully only a medium term venture I am determined not to let myself mind too much. Also Cambridge town centre is reasonably civilised as these places go, and I think that is a big factor in not having had too much hassle. It's also a harsh fact of life that the older you get, the more bloody rude and inconsiderate people get towards you, and I am hoping having age on my side helps. I remember the experiences of my MIL, who was also wheelchair bound with end stage renal failure, and the grief she got, eg being parked facing the wall and simply left in the doctor's surgery once our backs were turned, not being spoken to, etc, so I know exactly where you are coming from.

Nutty, DS1 uses Earth Friendly Baby in a desultory and ineffective fashion, so I have to rinse his hair. Ta for advice - I'll switch to Weleda for a bit and only wash his hair once a week (he will be extremely relieved! Have you two been conspiring, I wonder???)

Springy, Persona machine group action took 7 years, we were all forced into it even though many of us had private legal insurance and wanted to take our own cases independently. The science behind the machine was totally flawed, we found out later, and it was thought we all had a very good case. It cost over £100k to prepare the case over the seven years (luckily I had legal insurance) and in the end all 40 of us got a payment from Unipath of a miserly £7500 each, apart from one woman who refused to settle. When you think that the group included one woman who was not with the partner who got her pg and who had had triplets naturally as a consequence of this appalling device, and that it is still on sale, and making them millions, this is a sad day indeed for justice, but not for big business or lawyers' deep pockets.

Mathsmummy if your water are leaking it will go on and on, if it is any other bolidy fluid a bit of toilet going and wiping will sort you out. You are supposed to be able to tell by the smell but I honestly couldn't when this happened to me. I think hospitals have a special test stick they can use to do a quick chemistry test on it. If you're still worried at lunchtime then see someone perhaps. (Good advice there from BB, Boff assistant!)

BB I didn't have a stand at first and it was OK (as long as you don't have under floor heating!), but then I bought a second hand stand, and this was very useful because it knackered my back less picking small people up in the middle of the night to be fed. However removal men trashed the stand and my mum bought me a little crib for baby no 3 as she and I had both always wanted one! But I have got a new moses basket now just to plonk on the floor of the living room.

Bleuravin I have found a homeopathic link here that helps you diagnose suitable cures for things like back pain/sciatica so you might care to try it. Nutty with regard to the SPD/back, have you thought of trying to get a referral to the NHS homeopathic hospital in Bristol? I am going to try to go to the Women's Clinic at the London one.

BoffinMum · 01/02/2009 09:27

I bought a cuddly boy's doll thing when I was in hospital last week and put that in the crib, which looks cure (but I am because it is still broken and stuffed in the nursery and not at the end of our bed).

BabyBolat · 01/02/2009 09:35

Oh Springy McDreamy, definitely McDreamy No that I would turn down mcSteamy either - although would be a tad worried about catching something!!!

Believe me I would have preferred not to be up at 6.30 - but alas this LO had other opinions!!! Have you managed to have any of your porridge yet? hope you start to feel better - I have started eating lots of dry bread and crackers to help with the nausea (takes me right back to the early weeks!)

I think I will probable get a stand too then - thanks Boff!

Annoyingly, my 'quick drying gloss' (4 hours apparently) wasn't so quick drying and have just realised that by turning the rocking chair upside down to paing the rocking bits I have scuffed the arms! am tempted to take it back to homebase and ask for my £20 back! Dh will be really grumpy about it when he wakes up (hence me not waking him up like I normally would!!!)

Well this morning I have ironed all the baby sheets (what felt like about 40 of them!) and didn't burn myself once (big improvement!!!) and the burn seems to have calmed down a little bit which is good!

What is everyone up to today?

OP posts:
BabyBolat · 01/02/2009 09:36

Oh Boffin, when will DH try and fix it?

OP posts:
BoffinMum · 01/02/2009 09:38

I think that's probably a good idea BB - stands aren't that expensive in the bigger scheme of things.

BoffinMum · 01/02/2009 09:40

He suggested replacing the pins by drilling them out, but I think if it got broken by me bashing it against the bed in a temper, then I could hammer them back into shape and they would work. I might try doing this when he is out.

BabyBolat · 01/02/2009 09:40

Should point out we finished glossing at 8pm last night so it had 12 hours to dry!

OP posts:
BabyBolat · 01/02/2009 09:41

Am sure it is fixable - worth giving it a go and if it doesn't work DH can drill them out!

For Springy, Bleu and others, I found this leaflet online and it mentions nausea and breast pain, etc, so might be of some use.

BB That paint sounds rubbish but I bet there is some small print about it only drying that fast in summer in 30 degrees of heat!!

AuldAlliance · 01/02/2009 10:48

If I end up getting a Moses basket, I think a stand will have to be included, to prevent killing my back. I can't really have it on the floor, I don't think.
Boffin, here is a clip for you showing what R. Dati described to journalists as a "full, studious and concentrated day" at the Paris town council, where she reads every national newspaper there is.
I love the bit where she votes although she clearly doesn't know what she's voting for. A bit more nostalgic French for you, Springy. And no, I have no idea who the two Buddhists (?) at the start are.

Re the crib, Boffin, I bet you can straighten the pins and try to fix it. Just watch out with that hammer; there are enough health problems on this thread!

BB that paint sounds rubbish. Are you going to have to sand it off and start over? I have to say that my experiences with paint in the past usually led me to the conclusion that the drying times indicated need to be doubled; but you tripled it!

I spent the afternoon and evening (4pm-10pm) on the sofa, reading and watching House. My knee feels so much better. Now to try and reorganise my life so I can do this every day. It is so luxurious to wake up, roll over and snooze again for an hour. Simple pleasures I won't be experiencing again for a long, long time!
