Here we go again....

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
BoffinMum · 28/01/2009 07:51

Cheers, Lulu. I have not had this before but then I have never lain in bed this long either.

Springy, ibuprofen causes issues with prostaglandins and also runs the risk of giving the baby a lung problem called pulmonary oedema. Plus it might cause a hole in the heart problem at birth. This would probably not happen after a single tablet but it's best avoided, honest. If the pain is very bad try a fizzy solpadine instead of just paracetemol.

SpringySunshine · 28/01/2009 07:55

The ibuprofen's all I have in the flat, stupidly. Will just wait until the chemist opens & send DP out. He's currently still in bed, totally oblivious, & I'm not sure when the chemist'll open. But I can see it from my window, so that's okay. I'm very hopeful it'll be 8... I can't lift my right leg very much at all - certainly not enough to even lie back on the sofa / get back into bed even if I wanted to. The baby's also gone very quiet as he does when I'm in pain. I'm not worried about him because I know he's fine, but I also know that it's a sign that I really could do with some bloody paracetamol.

Boffin, do keep checking the swelling. I won't preach because you know far more about it all than I do, but make sure you check your face every so often & all of the obvious stuff.

LuLuBai · 28/01/2009 07:57

Hang in there Springy

BoffinMum · 28/01/2009 08:01

Springy, can you wake up DP and get him to help you into a warm bath before the chemists opens?

SpringySunshine · 28/01/2009 08:06

Well it doesn't appear to open at 8

The bath thing won't really help, I don't think. I tried last week & I just felt wet & uncomfortable instead. I might have a quick google to see if I can find any nearish sources of paracetamol that are open now though. He will get up & help me with whatever when I ask him to, but he starts uni at 10 & had a late night last night, so I have to find the balance between letting him sleep (there's no point in him just sitting with me because I'm crap company at the moment) & having enough time for him to do whatever I need him to. Luckily my semester still doesn't start for over a week.

SpringySunshine · 28/01/2009 08:16

Just remembered that I received Nutty's TENS yesterday (duh). Now to figure it out...

BoffinMum · 28/01/2009 08:38

Springy - TENS is a good idea. Put the pads either side of your spine, one set at bra strap level, one set at top of pants level, and set it to a steady pulse. It will take at least an hour to start working but pref leave it on all day. Buy some spare batteries - prob 9v.

Blimey do they do no work at your university?? Our semester started on 12 January. That having been said I have only been in once and I am now signed off on sick leave for the duration. So I can talk!

PuzzleRocks · 28/01/2009 08:43

BOFFIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How very dare you!!!!!!!!

SpringySunshine · 28/01/2009 08:49

Thanks, that'll save me rather a long period of experimentation.

I think the lack of contact time is mostly down to my course. I'm meant to be doing loads of reading at the moment (I'm not) & there have also been assignments due, etc. I think that most courses are back on now, but being English lit we don't have many lectures anyway. I have to say that I'd actually rather we'd had less of a Christmas break & therefore I had to miss less this semester, but it's not for me to choose. & right now I'm very glad that I don't have to make a decision as to whether or not to drag myself in.

SpringySunshine · 28/01/2009 08:49

Pfft, Puzzle's on a rampage

BoffinMum · 28/01/2009 08:51

hehehehe!

PuzzleRocks · 28/01/2009 08:53

Right, I shall cast aside my indignation and see what we have been nattering about this morning.

SpringySunshine · 28/01/2009 08:55

Also, I may be being paranoid (dear God, I hope I'm being paranoid) but I think I'm potentially beginning to suffer from piles. This is going to be a really interesting trip to the doctor. Especially as I'm not sure that I'm going to bother getting dressed & may just put my coat on over my jammies (in fairness, my legs would just look like I was wearing slobby trousers, so nobody would really know until I took my coat off)

BoffinMum · 28/01/2009 09:00

Ooh, ooh, DH has just said he is taking me to the seaside for a couple of days after the baby is born to stay in my fave hotel.

www.brudenellhotel.co.uk/

DS1 and DS2 will hopefully be on an exchange trip to France so we will only have one offspring to worry about. I can just sit in the bar and drink Pimms and bf. I cried I was so happy!!

BoffinMum · 28/01/2009 09:02

Springy, best of luck with putting embarrassment to one side. Sometimes it just has to be done.

SpringySunshine · 28/01/2009 09:03

Ohhh, that place looks so nice.

DP's up & about now. & I'm about to phone the surgery for a GP appointment. I really could do with some antibiotics ASAP. Again. & to be reassured that I don't have piles... I really don't want to have piles

SpringySunshine · 28/01/2009 09:04

They're going to want to look at my bum, aren't they?

SpringySunshine · 28/01/2009 09:06

(Really sorry to anyone who'll be reading this whilst eating their breakfasts )

PuzzleRocks · 28/01/2009 09:09

Mumble - I didn't add you at the time because I didn't have your due date. I then forgot to ask. My apologies.

Boffin and Springy - Sorry you are both feeling rough this morning. Has it eased up at all for either of you?

Lulu - I have no idea what to do for DD's birthday. Last year we went to Longleat Safari and had a tea party with grandparents. I want it to be really special particularly with the baby's imminent arrival but obviously I can't stray too far from home. Wouldn't be much fun to go into labour at London Zoo for example. I really need to give it some more thought. I have decided to make her a Kermit cake though.

PuzzleRocks · 28/01/2009 09:12

Boffin - The hotel looks lovely, lucky you.

PuzzleRocks · 28/01/2009 09:14

Swaliswan - Please put your head into the guillotine.

Boffin - you have had a stay of execution.

BoffinMum · 28/01/2009 09:16

Yes Springy, they are.
You might as well detach your nether regions and glue them to your forehead because people are going to be very interested in your parts for the next four months.

SpringySunshine · 28/01/2009 09:17

Right, I have an appointment in half an hour. I do quite love them there - so much better than the surgery I went to in Brum. I'm currently not feeling much better at all, although the TENS is proving mildly distracting, at least. There's no way that DP can take time of uni this morning either, as he has some kind of test. Typically bad timing. I just want to be not pregnant for a couple of hours so I can not be in pain or discomfort & get some proper sleep. I'd feel so much better equipped to face all of this then. The only comfort is that I know that I'm not alone & that it could be a lot worse. Thank God for you ladies.

LuLuBai · 28/01/2009 09:19

Longleat for 1st birthday. That's impressive and a big one to top. I didn't do anything for DDs 1st . And then felt extra guilty when my SIL threw a 1st birthday party a couple of months later - for their puppy!

This year I was just thinking of a kids tea party with helium balloons and fairy cakes. Nothing too out of the ordinary but even that seems like a feat of organisation at the mo.

Perhaps I should go to Longleat myself. I'm actually staying only about 15 miles from there at the moment.

SpringySunshine · 28/01/2009 09:20

It's just as well I got over the general embarrassment of these things at the beginning of the pregnancy; I think the GP sticking her fingers up my fanjo for dating purposes was the end of that

The main problem is it means that I'm going to have to make more of an effort to wash properly right this minute & I don't even know that I can get into the bath (I did wash properly last night, I'm not totally disgusting, but I don't want to be airing my smelly bum in the doctor's face if I can help it)
