That all sounds as I might expect. It would be a good car for me but I wouldn't pay £50,000 for one.

Good night, everyone!! I am off to bed soon - not as early a night as it seems, because it's all of 9:45 here, but still very early for me. Am going to watch an episode or two of Desperate Housewives under the downie with my hot water bottle. Wild times in Provence...

Have (guiltily) done some mild ironing and a bit of gentle organising of papers, while listening to Radio 4 without any interruptions and am feeling less desperate about the house. DH got home earlier than planned, so he emptied the bins and the overflowing recycling box, hauled loads of logs upstairs to help me keep the home fires burning, and then drove me to and from the lab to get my blood test results.

DS promised to send me postcards from the Alps. He is so sweet. If I hadn't sworn not to create a profile, I'd post a picture of him for you all to admire.

Boffin, our town council has electric cars (don't know what their autonomy is though). They're just Renaults with an electric motor, but they are so lovely and quiet, I quite fancy one.

Has anyone else been having the dreaded leg cramps? I've been woken up quite a lot at night with them. They make me cry out, so DH wakes up in a panic thinking the baby is about to be born...

Errrr all of a sudden the thread displays in a really funny way... without much spacing between the lines? What do I need to do? I reckon they've messed it up by 'updating' the look and programmed lots of bugs into it no? Just like they do with iplayer all the time! Idiots.

Schulte · 30/01/2009 21:13

Also can someone PLEASE make sweaty Betty disappear... she's such an eyesore!

Schulte · 30/01/2009 21:17

Up at an ungodly hour this morning and have been shuffling about the house quietly so DH is not woken up too early. I'm trying to get the last of the tidying done because I did nothing yesterday really. Well, DH and I did run over to Weston-s-Mare to get the super posh carseat we won off ebay. It is seriously pristine! Looks like it's never been used! Woman only used it a handful of times apparently to test it for the company and it's been sitting around since August... Such a good deal. Went to Cribbs Causeway on the way home to check out John Lewis and stop by boots for some maternity mattress protectors as it's getting to be about that time... Ate at Nandos which was very nice, but nearly fell asleep in my chicken. By then my sciatica was acting up again; took me a half hour to walk from Nandos down to the end by John Lewis where we had parked. (DH thought it was rather fun because he kept shopping in random stores as I shuffled passed) DH also pointed out that I started complaining about the pain for the first time after our epic adventure/ride up to Doncaster a while back and wondered if it was the sitting in the car which agitates it...interesting idea...Anyway so I did accomplish a few small things yesterday.

Ginger- So sorry about the SPD (I said to Dh that I felt like I was falling apart because I managed to pull a muscle in my back last night...) I agree with Boffin on the gentle pushing to try and get into physio ASAP. And Nutty's right, the internet can be your greatest friend in time of need...not only do you have MNers to commiserate with, but so many places are willing to send you things... so as long as you can get to the front door in time you can have presents for you and the baby daily...

Springy- Glad to hear from you again, so sorry that you're still not up to par. Poor you feeling miserable with the kidneys and the sickness. try to relax and hopefully it will pass soon. When are you back to see a GP about the kidneys?

Now where's our Darling Frekkles? Are you ill? How's the tummy?

AuldAlliance · 31/01/2009 08:05

Morning Bleu! Sorry to hear your sciatica is so troublesome.

Well, so much for a long lie-in: woke up at 7, but did roll over and snooze for another hour. Suppose it's a good sign: a few weeks ago I was dragging myself out of bed in the mornings.

Have had a leisurely breakfast, am going to shuffle round doing some more light tidying and then sit with my leg up and translate (I moonlight a bit, don't tell the taxman. I am currently translating chapters of a fascinating book about the history of sport in Madagascar) till the viewers come.

It is strange having the house all to myself like this: first time in nearly 4 yrs!

Gingersarah, you really are having a rough time of it. I agree that you should try and politely insist on getting an earlier appointment for physio.

Right, am off for a long, hot shower with no one shouting "Mummy, where are you?" or bursting in to use the loo and demanding I wipe their bum.

Hope everyone had an OK night and has a good Saturday.

P.S. speaking of Madagascar, am just curious: has there been any mention in the UK news of the civil unrest there and of the fact that there is a major push to overthrow the President? France reports more because it's a former colony, and I didn't see much about it in the UK press...

Bleuravin · 31/01/2009 08:11

Auld enjoy the quiet of the house and a nice long shower. Hopefully taking it easy will help with the knee.
(Why does your Dh demand you wipe his bum?...I think that's taking marital duties just too far )
I've not heard about Madagascar, but I have to say I get my news from Yahoo and what tidbits I cach if I'm not making supper when the news is on at 6...

AuldAlliance · 31/01/2009 08:14

Bleu, I almost added a disclaimer after that sentence, specifying that I was referring only to DS and not to DH, but decided against it... I clearly should have done

Bleuravin · 31/01/2009 08:15

lol

CoteDAzur · 31/01/2009 08:57

Excuse my intrusion, ladies. Just a message of gratitude to AuldAlliance:

Thank you, I really appreciate it. I found a sage femme liberale but she said she would be obliged to keep me under constant monitoring, which would mean I wouldn't be able to stay in water or move about. So my current plan is to stay at home until contractions are 5 mins apart and then go to the hospital. Then say "No" to whatever they want to do - no to canular, no to epidural, no to constant monitoring, etc.

It would still be great if your MW comes up with a name. Maybe that sage femme will be more 'liberale' about monitoring etc.

BabyBolat · 31/01/2009 09:16

Morning all

Wow Puzzle you are a MN star!! (Sorry don't know what a bumper is but yay for you!)

Bleu, so glad I have another morning person on the thread! Yay for the car seat that is fabulous and wow Auld what a lovely lovely thing to have the house to yourself - keep that leg up as much as possible today and enjoy your time (bet you miss them and want them back by the end of the day tho - I always do that with DH, make him go out because I need some time then am calling him by late afternoon asking where he is and what he is up to!

Ginger sorry you are suffering also! we are going to be a right bunch of sofa-bound bumps by the end of this pregnancy!

Didn't have a great night's sleep last night - DH's dad has been in and out of hospital and there are so many calls back and forth and have the worst reflux at the moment - my throat is burning!

Also my iron burn has gone really angry - any idea what I can do to calm it down a bit - has got really swollen and red which is weird because has been absolutely fine for the past two days (it's about 3 inches long on my left inner arm and just under 1cm wide!)

What is everyone up to today, we're already about an hour behind schedule (and I don't like it when my plans go all out of sync!!!)

Hey Cote, that's good news. There is a waterproof fetal doppler on this site that might help you on the day:

BoffinMum · 31/01/2009 09:56

BB, two of my kids got burns from hot drinks (because I am such a terrible parent!) and we ended up in a burns unit with one of them. You put sterile vaseline on it (try pharmacist) then a very coarsely woven gauze (hospitals have special ones soaked in sterile vaseline), then a myelin patch (shiny side towards the skin) and finally a normal non-stretchy bandage or a special big adhesive dressing on top of the whole thing. This promotes moist healing and minimises the risk of scars. If you still have problems in a week you may have an infection of some kind so it will need looking at. You could always take your chances at A and E and cadge some dressings off them, as they have much better stuff more easily to hand than Boots.

BoffinMum · 31/01/2009 10:09

BB

Should have typed melolin dressing. Myelin is the sheath around your spinal cord! Some info for you from:

www.rch.org.au/burns/clinical/index.cfm?doc_id=2012#Superficial_Burns

Superficial burns
A superficial burn involves only the epidermis and the upper part of the dermal papillae. The burn may appear bright pink or red in colour (erythema). Blisters may or may not be present. The texture is normal or firm and the area is very painful and hypersensitive to touch. On pressure the burn area will blanch and capillary return will be brisk. In time the erythema will fade and spontaneous healing will occur with no surgical intervention.

An occlusive dressing can be used for this sort of burn:

Generally dress with Mepitel, Melolin and crepe bandage. Secure with Hyperfix.

Mepitel is a low adherent wound contact dressing made of silicone gel bound to a flexible polyamide net.

BoffinMum · 31/01/2009 10:16

All of these can probably be ordered from a pharmacist. Great to have at home when you have kids around, anyway.

Mepitel

Melolin (comes in larger sizes as well - we get through loads of this - much better if less impressive than plasters with dinosaurs on)

Jelonet (what they used on my DS)

Bleuravin · 31/01/2009 10:37

Just got back from a grocery shop with Dh because I realised I drank all the milk in the early morning and had none for the ILs tea this afternoon. Interesting leaning on the cart(trolley) while I was shopping really helped the sciatica calm down and I walked almost normally back to the car without and cringing... I've got my feet up now for a rest though while DH makes me a coffee and then it'll be back to getting things in order. Dh says I'm not to go up or down the steps today unless I really have to so I'm going to position myself in the nursery and finish tidying in there until the ILs come while DH does the rest of the house.

BoffinMum · 31/01/2009 10:57

Bleu, while I am in dr mode, remind me who has looked at your back and what they have said?

BTW everyone, that medical supplies website I posted has very cheap real stethoscopes that will give hours of fun to DCs playing nurses and doctors. I am talking £5 here!!
