Is there anything of nutritional value in custard? I just ate a big bowl of it (granted with bananas) but I should I eat some toast or something perhaps too? Or maybe some chocolate

BabyBolat · 30/01/2009 13:02

Definitely chocolates bleu!!

Although I love custard and now want some!!!

It's blaaaardy freezing today - just popped the heating on and about to jump in a very warm bath!!!

Choclates it is!

Personally I'm rather hot and feverish today (besides my feet which always seem to be blocks of ice)...I'm running around in a cotton dress. But it's only stopped raining here fairly recently.

PuzzleRocks · 30/01/2009 13:11

Swaliswan - That's rubbish about the interruption but at least there is some interest I suppose.

BB - I went to one ante-natal with DD and couldn't believe how little people knew. I found the whole thing really boring and never went back. I come from a massive Irish family, did a biology degree, have two older sisters who had six kids already, and attended the birth of my youngest niece so there really wasn't a lot they could tell me. I'm not bothering this time either. But I guess the NCT ones are good for making friends.
You'll be amazed how quickly you adapt to having no sleep. I was very woried about it as I loved my sleep but even now I can happily function on very little. We're pretty tough creatures us women. Just don't plan on doing anything but bonding with your baby, keep visits to a minimum so you can rest during the day, and the old chestnut of freezing lots of meals in advance.

Bleu - your GP also has MATB1 form and can sign them. Perhaps you pick one up at your surgery today?

Erm, ladies, the logo isn't new. It's just more prominent now but it was always on the hompepage.

PuzzleRocks · 30/01/2009 13:12

Or homepage even.

Bleuravin · 30/01/2009 13:17

Apparently only a GP who has seen me in my gloriously pregnant state can sign the form...and only one of the GPs as seen me and he's gone until midweek...So I wait.

PuzzleRocks · 30/01/2009 13:20

Oh that's rubbish. But don't panic you still have plenty of time to apply. I sent off my application and within 10 days I had my letter of confirmation so they are turning them round pretty quickly.

Bleuravin · 30/01/2009 13:23

It just annoying because I was in there yesterday and when I asked the midwife she was just wide-eyed with surprise and uncertainty and said all such things were needed to be had from the Job Centre as far as she knew...So I went to the Jobcentre and was told, no the MATB1 was only to be had at the surgery/midwives...so I called back the surgery and they told me the aformentioned news about the GP...

PuzzleRocks · 30/01/2009 13:25

Wow, it's not like it's a new thing (as with the HIP grant), she should jolly well know about it, not on!

Bleuravin · 30/01/2009 13:26

OOOOoooH! just got news that my cotbed matress is due any time now I'm super excited about having things prepared for the little one as usually I'm terrribly behind because of procrastination. The baby can come pretty much anytime now and at least things are mostly ready.

purplemonkeydishwasher · 30/01/2009 13:37

Hi everyone!

Trying to get caught up with you all is a full time job you know!

I'm feeling just 'bleh' today. i'm thinking the dark weather isn't helping. or the fact that I was up from 3:30 until after 6. managed to sleep until 8 when DS came and woke me up. He sang me a song about boobies and babies. weird kid!

had toddler group today. i'm quite shy so don't talk to a lot of people but i guess being pregnant gives everyone an 'opener' so chatted to a lot of moms that i hadn't before. so that was nice.
I think DS is getting too old for the group but I like getting out on a Friday and I want to take the new baby to it as well so I might as well keep going.

the new format seems ok. just something else to get used to. i think there's been 2 or 3 big changes like this since i joined MN. i just takes a little while to get used to something new. or to change it to suit myself!

BoffinMum · 30/01/2009 13:38

I've always got my MATB1 signed by a mw.

BabyBolat · 30/01/2009 13:48

Puzzle - I wont be going to anymore I have to say - there are another load before I give birth as well as a whole heap of weekend parenting classes - have to say the only one I am going to go to is the bfing one! Was funny they were talking about back pain and SPD etc and I was like NO NO you have that all wrong, Boffin says.... (I didn't actually say it out loud but I was thinking it!!!)

I am very tired today - have just got back into my PJs and now fighting the desire to go back to sleep!

Bleu, ANYONE at the surgery (so any dr or mw) can sign your form as you notes will tell them your edd etc which is all they need so they are talking rubbish (sorry)

Yay about the cotbed - that is exciting, I got my steraliser today and am going to make a decision on nappies this weekend then I am pretty much all sorted - also going to spend the weekend washing up all the clothes and bedding we have bought so far so I can make up the bed and everything as well as buying some pillows and throws etc to finish off the nursery as DH has PROMISED he will finish the rocking chair this weekend.

Sorry to ask about nappies again but Blue what do you think of the little lamb ones (they look so cute!!!!) but haven't seen one in real life!

Bleu, custard is full of milk which is rich in calcium. You are building strong bones for your baby As for bump cream, don't get cream, get an oil. It is far more moisturising to use an oil and it's also a lot more gentle and luxurious rubbing oil into your bump (oh, and don't forget your hips as well). If you are really strapped for cash, then you could use something like olive oil apparently, but it wouldn't be my first choice I used clarins tonic oil last time which was extremely luxurious and I didn't get any stretch marks until I was 30+ weeks. This time I'm trying to remember to use the bio-oil that my mum bought for me. It's not quite as luxurious in either scent or cost but it seems to do a good job.

Bleuravin · 30/01/2009 13:51

I would think that with a centralised 'group' (the NHS) running the hospitals and things that there would not be so much confusion... but I seem to get a lot of 'run around' when I call and inquire about things. I would not have encountered such at home, but that may partly be because in the States I'd know specifically what questions to ask and what words to use to get the responses I desire...
Language can be a troublesome thing sometimes, especially when it seeems like the language is the same one one is used to..

BabyBolat · 30/01/2009 13:56

oh bleu on creams - if you want some luxurious ones:

  • Estee Lauder do a lovely body cream (with matching manicure/pedicure cream and exfoliant) for about £30 each from most department stores
  • Kiehls also do a beautiful range that feel extraordinarily good but are very rich! can get most of them from Space NK about the same price
  • OJON have an amazingly luxury natural body cream (from all natural sources) that is like a really rich coco butter (and can also go in hair) for about £20

Although I have to say for stretch marks, the ones I have found the best are:

  1. Johnson's baby oil
  2. Palmers coco butter and olive butter cream

Both of which are about £3 each from tesco!!!

BabyBolat · 30/01/2009 13:59

HOnestly take your DH's advice and buy some luxury ones to give you a pick me up but get the oil and cheap ones that you can slap on for SM's - so far (touch wood) I have none but still have 8 weeks to go...

Has anyone heard from Springy? Hope she is ok - bit worried as she normally pops in even when she is sick or off in Brum!

Bleuravin · 30/01/2009 14:01

BB-I really like little lambs. They are much smaller than the Motherease ones I've acquired and a lot softer (I've got bamboo ones), though I'm not sure how long the softness will last. A friend of mine says the LL nappies are really easy to use and clean. She just throws them straight into the washer with no soaking and they come out clean as a whistle (though she warned that the first poos stain them a bit- but we have a few disposable newborn diapers that someone also gave us so we're going to use those first, thus maybe getting through the staining poos). She was worried about them drying quick enough, but she says if she washes them in the morning and leaves them on the radiators they're dry by evening or the next morning at the latest (so get enough for at least 2 days I guess). I got mine off ebay for a very good price.

Bleuravin · 30/01/2009 14:05

I have the Palmer's cocoa butter one, and use it every morning, but I do not really like the smell all that much so I mix it with johnson's naturals lotion for baby... But since DH is willing and wanting to get me something nice I was trying to find something else...
I was really surprised to find the stretch marks this morning because I swear they weren't there yesterday... maybe it was all the poking and prodding by the midwife...

Bleuravin · 30/01/2009 14:06

Springy where are you?
Springy where are you?

BabyBolat · 30/01/2009 14:07

My mum didn't get hers until the day after she gave birth! Think they can come anytime!!

OP posts:
Bleuravin · 30/01/2009 14:12

Should I be worried?

DH just emailed saying he was really looking forward to having the baby because then I wouldn't be alone all day anymore, so he won't feel as guilty working away or going cycling because I won't be as focused on him...

Does that mean I smother him? I was feeling quite pleased that I didnt revolve my life completely around him and his biking...

Bleuravin · 30/01/2009 14:12

After she had given birth? really? Strange to think about...
