Oh god, Auld, where did you find THAT thread? Yuck. Did you read as far down as the jam jar? bleurgh

conkertree · 29/01/2009 20:12

we use tots bots and bambino mio nappies - have since bought more tots bots for the new lo but wouldnt bother getting more bambinos, although dh prefers them. sometimes you can get a sample pack from your Local Authority which has various types to try and then you can buy more of your favourite types - my LA doesn't do it but apparently some do.

lulu - we get to borrow a French book each week from the playgroup - but hadnt thought about getting some ourselves (doh!) - will have a look for some Spanish ones cause then I would be able to pronounce them without having to look up pretty much every word, or ask DH each time.

I'll join you in taking the blame then for killing the thread auldalliance - but it was very interesting to hear your views on it as someone actually providing education.

Schulte, I sometimes idly click on "last 15 minutes" and I stumbled upon that grotty thread a while ago. It is utterly . I did indeed read about the jam jar, and numerous other things (toe nail jam, for instance) that made me glad I'm past the nauseous stage of pregnancy!

Nutty, I didn't think you were being rude; sometimes I think my posts aren't always as PG-related as they could be for this thread. As for not being overly intelligent, I am well placed to state categorically that there are some very highly-qualified people around (one of my Professor colleagues, for instance) who are anything but intelligent. Degrees are not necessarily a reliable indicator of intelligence, merely of ability to fit into a mould (or to work the system to your advantage).

Am looking to forward to finding out Kitty's secret destination (have been pondering over peppermint for ages now!!)

PuzzleRocks · 29/01/2009 20:26

Schulte - Do you mean the Matb1 for maternity allowance or the hip grant? Re the HIP Grant I asked my midwife yesterday and she said the details were in a bounty pack which she gave me. But when I got home it was just a leaflet detailing what I already knew so I hope she has the application form when I next see her. I don't want to miss out.

BabyBolat · 29/01/2009 20:28

Evening all

Don't think you have killed the thread girls - we are suffering from work and sickness so think we have naturally been a bit quieter

Nutty hush your potty mouth - you are intelligent! My DH didn't go to uni and he is much more intelligent than me! Really!

Also English (while fluent) is obviously his second language and to demonstrate how poor my / English education is (despite getting straight A's /1st throughout school and uni), he had to teach me about tenses and even verbs / adverbs etc!

Re languages - we want our LO to be bi-lingual so will speak to him or her in both languages from birth (and hopefully my turkish will improve!!)

Nutty yay for DH clever boy!!

Boffin - did she realise who she was dealing with when she said that - she will soon get the fanjo warriors after her - what's her name - we can stalk her!!!

LuLu - thank you so much for nappy advice and sorry for the other girls for boring you about nappies but... - were the ones you used good for night times? - apparently they sell your ones at Waitrose so might pop in and pick up a sample! Might do that and get a sample of motherease and see what I think works well - was planning to go to the baby show at excel but actually not sure I can be bothered and not sure I want to stroll around that hot room at 8 months pregnant. The only thing that puts me off motherease is they are so expensive (£350 for 20!) but they do have good reviews!

What's everyone up to? Dh has gone out and I am wondering who is going to make me tea....

PuzzleRocks · 29/01/2009 20:33

Lulu - I see you were mentioning second languages earlier. Do you think it would be too soon to start DD from her second birthday? She has an extensive vocabulary already but i'm worried about confusing her.

PuzzleRocks · 29/01/2009 20:35

Gosh, reading all your posts about breastfeeding makes me think I must have steel boobs and leather nipples. I never had any issues or soreness at all. I bloody hope it's the same this time round.

BabyBolat · 29/01/2009 20:38

see it just scares me!! bleeding nips and will they / wont they latch on!!!

Puzzle from what i have read, the earlier you start them the better so am pretty sure that it's not to early for your DD - especially if you start with the basics!

OP posts:
BabyBolat · 29/01/2009 20:40

Oh no, he made me tea (was waiting for me when I got home) I meant cups of tea - the kitchen is so far away!!!

Auld - I have had a cold ridden DD to deal with today so haven't been on much. Boy is she grumpy when she is ill but I have caught up and read your posts with interest. We are the highbrow ante-natal thread dontchaknow!
Just the title of that grotty thread was enough for me. I have no interest in the content. Urgh

PuzzleRocks · 29/01/2009 20:50

Nutty - Well done to DH. And like BB my DH didn't go to uni either and he is vastly more intellgent than the majority of people I used to get hammered with in the union bar. I should say studied with but honestly that paints a false picture. (Sorry Auld, I did apply myself while there but a double g & t for a quid is asking for trouble )

PuzzleRocks · 29/01/2009 20:52

Thanks BB, I can't wait to get started with her.

AuldAlliance · 29/01/2009 20:55

Puzzle, hope your DD gets better soon.

I wasn't being totally serious about scaring people off the thread, was a bit tongue in cheek. I can't imagine us all sharing grotty secrets, thank God. Bleeding nips, piles and the other delights of pregnancy are enough for us here, I reckon.

FWIW, as regards BFing, I suspect I may have already regaled you with the rubbish post-natal care I received last time around, so I'll spare you the details, but latching on really is the key. DS only breastfed properly once I got him home and tried out different positions looking at pictures in my baby bible. It was amazing how easy it was after that. If you have helpful people around you rather than ones who are in the pay of some formula company, you'll be fine.

PuzzleRocks · 29/01/2009 20:59

Thanks Auld, so do I, she's scary when she is grumpy. Nothing like her mother

conkertree · 29/01/2009 21:15

i'm another that had no problems with bf after the initial problems with getting the latch right, but luckily had no bleeding nipples or mastitis or anything - am fully aware that I may not be as lucky this time round.

boffinmum - may well get three orders out of that thread - if they do order, I'll make your ds a free kilt for the business you brought me.

AuldAlliance · 29/01/2009 21:21

Oh, that reminds me, conker, if you have any publicity stuff you want me to hand on to my dad, our clan gathering is in August. Could be a good opportunity for a bit of advertising.
Give me a shout if you're interested.

conkertree · 29/01/2009 21:41

am always interested in marketing opportunities AuldAlliance - ooh I love mumsnet. At the moment I only really have business cards for publicity, which refer people to my website, but I was asked about fliers this week, so that may be something I should think about.

AuldAlliance · 29/01/2009 21:43

Send me the link if you like, and I'll pass it on. It could go in the (scintillating) clan newsletter and if you have fliers by August, let me know and I'll see if I can get some to be put in a prime position at the gathering.

Swaliswan · 29/01/2009 21:49

AAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

AuldAlliance · 29/01/2009 21:52

Yes?
