Thought I'd better start this soon.

Lol Jennster- hope you're OK.

TMI alert. To those who suffer from piles, how did you discover them, and can you self treat or is it best to see a GP? I am having trouble with constipation and get bleeding each time i have a poo. This time i decided to have a "feel" and it felt a bit lumpy/swollen but i felt again a minute later and not sure i can feel it now. Don't really fancy googling and looking for photos but don't know that much about piles...[naive blush emoticon]

cece · 02/02/2009 17:14

I have been looking at the Cossato Lite buggy which is from newbron, but DH has said we are not buying a new buggy. We have an old stroller (not even sure if it is suitable for newborns) that DS trashed used for 2 years. I got it second hand anyway!

Anyway one of my friends has given me her old one from the loft. This in DH's mind now justifies us not buying a buggy! LOL

I take Fybogel (on prescription from GP) for my constipation/piles issues.

Lazzer · 02/02/2009 17:27

pula I've had (bleeding) piles for the last week or so, even though I don't get constipation or strain on the loo (veggie diet).

On my way to work last monday I bought some 'Preparation H' cream which hasn't made much difference. Later in week got some Anacal cream prescribed by GP (he didn't offer to take a look though!), which again doesn't really help.

My sister said the sudocreme was the best for her while she was pg. Keep forgetting to pick them up.

If it's lumpy and swollen it probably is piles but if you've never had them before it's probably best to get the GP to take a quick peek!

What I'm worried about is that they are showing no signs of going away. Does anyone know if it's common to have piles for months and months???! I've had them previously in my twenties but think they went away after about 5 days.

cece · 02/02/2009 17:50

I thought once you had them then they didn't really go away, unless youhave surgery or an injection form the doc? But I may be wrong...

Momino · 02/02/2009 18:29

hi all.
just a quick one. congrats to all you at 24 weeks recently!

about piles, I'm plagued with them and they're always flaring up. I've never done anything about them (eg prep h), have a history of vericose veins in the family so not surprised I inherited these as well.

am going out tonight in an hour and still need to bath kids, put on my make up do my hair, etc. dh won't be home till after 7. i think the extent of my 'dressing up' will be running a wet wipe over my jumper (i've become so low maintenance). i'm quite ashamed of myself!

take care everyone travelling.

llareggub · 02/02/2009 18:49

Piles.

Am I the only one to stick them back in and hope for the best?

FiKelly · 02/02/2009 19:07

Jennster [wince at the strain] but the picture you created in my head made me seriously though I hope you're not too sore and it's all better tomorrow.

grumpy would your DH be able to justify a different model of buggy more suitable to your height (& pos more expensive) if it was 2nd hand? I can't remember where abouts in the country you are but e.g. there is a bugaboo chameleon on ebay for pick up only (cheltenham area) starting bid for £150 I'm sure there will be listings for your fav prams but much less than buying it new.

pulapula in answer to your piles query... TMI alert... as soon as I suspected them I waited until I was in the bath and had a feel around there when I was getting washed. They feel like you have.. errr... trying to put this into words... bulging smooth plum like /roundish lumps coming out of your back passage. Mine felt alarmingly large to the touch but were manoeuvrable back inside.... if you want to compare descriptions just ask

Lazzer I 1st got piles when heavily pregnant with DS and they didn't go properly for a month or 2. I tried Anusol cream 1st but it didn't seem to really do anything for me. I switched on recommendation of the MW in the maternity ward to Germaloids ointment not cream as it has a slight cooling/numbing effect on application and as it is an ointment it is a bit more resistant to coming off... so it actually has a chance to work. It comes with an applicator if you have to squirt some up internally (if they're v severe) but can be applied to anything on the outside by hand. It basically shrinks the piles back down and i've found that applying as/when directed does the trick to make them disappear completely.. well the problem goes so I assume they've gone

FiKelly · 02/02/2009 19:11

momino have a great night out... my going out routine is pretty much the same as you on the days I'm dealing with DS bed and bath routine on my own

llareggub I do your piles fix when i find them out there ... but no matter how often i push them in they don't go away... they sometimes even get bigger when I do this so then I go for the ointment!

Belgianchocolates · 02/02/2009 19:25

Ah, piles. For some reason I've avoided them so far in this pregnancy, though I did have them with the other 2, anusol gave me some relief. Funnily enough I've now got heartburn, which I didn't have with the other 2. I took some gaviscon from the drug cupboard at work to see if it helps and it does, but it just tastes horrible. Seems like I've dome some sort of pregnancy discomforts swap
We've got loads of snow in the B'ham area. My dc's were off and I was really excited, because we've finally been able to use that sledge I bought last winter. I love snow and it was so nice to know that my dc's have been outside all day and didn't touch the computer or DS, because they were having to much fun out there. Just a shame I wasn't there to witness it, but DH has filmed some of it, so that was nice + they were full of stories of going down the hill and seeing a dog chasing all the sledges coming down the same big hill, etc...
I love the Babymel bags too. They look just so nice. I didn't use my Kipling changing bag I got from my mum for my ds's birth all that much, found it too big and bulky, without anywhere for my own stuff, so I ended up using a normal big handbag. This time though it would be nice to have something more suitable and those babymel bags do look nice . I don't need bottle/cooler sections though, because I'll bf this one like the other 2.
You know my dh used to be like that when it comes to buying prams. He'll have 4-5 drills, all sorts of expensive power tools, and I got into trouble for buying a Mclaren (£50) at the time. I told him that a pram is my own tool as a mother and that I need a good one that does everything I need it to do. I think he sort of understood, but still wasn't too happy about me buying another pushchair. We had my sil's pram on loan at the time, but of course that was a temporary thing + a 3-in-1 system that took up a lot of space in my boot. Unfortunately my sil needed her pram back by the time I had my dd and so I ended up buying another pram with carry cot, because I'm quite paranoid about keeping babies flat. But to please dh I bought one in the sales that I didn't really like the look off. And of course I got rid of it a.s.a.p. because I knew I didnt want to use it again if we ever had another baby. So if I just had bought my dream pram the first time around, I wouldn't have had to buy another one now and in the long run it would have worked out cheaper Now I've learnt to just buy what I want on my own credit card, not show him the receipt, not mention how much it is and then just ask for money if I'm running short. He's got no idea that the Skate I bought will be over £500 once I've bought the car seat and stuff, yet somehow he'll end up paying for it , because I'll complain about my high credit card bill and he'll give me money. For some reason he never asks me what I actually buy with my own credit card, but if he sees the same purchases on our joint bill he'll complain... Men, sometimes they just don't make any sense, but I don't mind. I get what I like

llareggub · 02/02/2009 19:26

oooh, you're near me, belgianchocolates!

Belgianchocolates · 02/02/2009 19:32

Am I. Where are you then?

Belgianchocolates · 02/02/2009 19:40

Ooh, look what I've just discovered babymel sale

FiKelly · 02/02/2009 19:41

belgian I really hoping to avoid the heartburn... I didn't get it last time until v late on IKWYM about the gaviscon taste but at least it works and we can get big bottles of it free on prescription My bugaboo seemed like an extremely expensive choice at first but it has worked out cheaper in comparison to what all of my post natal friends have spent on prams since 2006. All of them have bought 2nd prams (some even multiples) as they found their pram too heavy/awkward to use with a toddler in. The bugaboo is so light that I've never felt the need to buy anything else. So I agree a cheap make do/keep everyone happy choice is sometimes not such a cheap option in the long run. I managed to persuade DH by getting him to push the prams around obstacles in the various pram shops and then I suggested he have a go with the bugaboo and he instantly felt the difference and could understand why I was so keen. We only have one credit card between us so I've no chance of hiding purchases... so I usually work on the basis that If he tries it out and likes it then it usually ends up being his idea!

FiKelly · 02/02/2009 19:43

mmmm I found the babymel sale too... torn between the red one and the full price white and black one on mothercare.com

Belgianchocolates · 02/02/2009 19:52

I've just bought the red one. I've been watching that one on eBay and tbh I don't think I'd get it new on eBay for that price. The white one is gorgeous too, but I just think: babies + white = bad combination (think poo/vomit/orange baby food)

llareggub · 02/02/2009 20:04

Belgian, I'm in Warks...

DH & I had to have dominos pizza for tea as I forgot to take our dinner ingredients out of the freezer can i start the forgetful baby brain now?

Belgianchocolates · 02/02/2009 20:36

llarregub Ah, so you're from Warks. Also midlands then, but still a little while away from us

Fi you're allowed. It's well known that a woman's brain leaves her during her first pregnancy never to return again for the rest of her life. It gets worse too.

Jennster · 02/02/2009 21:08

I'm ok really, just walk like John Wayne for a few minutes when I stand up.

Went to Drs this morning to get an Rx for stockings. I'd requested them twice and was rung by a receptionist to say they wanted to see me if I wanted a script for them. I've been wearing and buying them for 10 years myself and thought 'bugger it I'll get them on prescription this time seeing as they are free and this is my last pregnancy' Anyway the Dr said I've no idea why you came to see me, why on earth are you wearing stockings nobody wears them and a script was done for you last week have you not asked for it? Grrr I felt really stupid. I HAD showed him my varicose vein too. But never mind I have my stockings.

It's actually snowing down here now too... I can't remember the last time we had any snow that actually lasted for more than an hour. On the sw coast here it's usually rain or sleet. I will be so excited if it's still around in the morning as DS 2.5yrs has never seen snow like this and had never been able to make snowballs, snowmen... anything. Going to have to take loads of video for DH who will prob be at work (unless there are train cancellations tomorrow am).

My MIL situation is sorted... I phoned her this afternoon as I needed an address of one of DH's family who is 21yrs at the end of the week and had a lovely chat for 45mins. She said she was sorry she couldn't guarantee to be able to come down before the birth of #2 but said she def wants to visit afterwards at some stage and she's sure everything will go more smoothly with the birth of this next LO. I said we'd be delighted to have her any time she wants to come but to give us a bit of warning so we can sort out something for her to sleep on in the babies room which she was more than happy with. I was right though... she just wants to visit, do the cooing grandma and have a holiday. So DH was right to stick to our plans for DS when the time comes. I don't think MIL will make it down straight away anyway... as with DS it was about 5wks after the birth so at least we'll be over the initial zombie sleep deprived states of the 1st wk or so.

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 02/02/2009 21:31

I've decided to badger DH for a better pushchair. I will leave it for a couple of weeks though, as his arseyness has been explained by the appallingly painful emergency root canal work he had to have this morning (his face is now all swollen). Poor, poor boy. His tooth was hideously abscessed.

piles. I found the Germaloids ointment the best too, but I think it's got the strongest smell and I get paranoid that someone will know I have piles from a vague Germaloids whiff wafting around me. I got piles with DD1 and they never quite went away, they have little flare-ups. BUT nothing thus far this pg.

Please stop talking about changing bags - I have never cared before, but my fingers are itching to click on the links and look at the pretty things! I do love a bag

Jennster - I really do hope you're ok, your description was just so comical....

FiKelly · 02/02/2009 21:36

ahh grumpy nothing worse than sore teeth... I'm sure when he's feeling better he'll understand a lot better.

LoobyLou36 · 02/02/2009 21:40

Evening ladies.

Well hope you've all had a better day than me.

I went in to work this morning with a stinking headache, I didn't have much work to do and there was no work in another department for me to help out with either but as I have trouble sitting around pretending to be busy I decided to take a half day holiday. The secretary took personal offence at this for some reason and was quite rude about it. My boss wasn't too happy either (bear with a sore head).
I am so peed off with work at the moment anyway as I haven't been paid for over 8 weeks.

So I came home and parceled up a load of stuff I'd sold on ebay and took them to the post office.

When I got home I got a phone call from my local vet to say my cat Maisie had been brought in. She'd been hit by and car and was dead.
She'd gone missing weeks before so I don't know where she'd been till now. The vet couldn't shed any light either she just said a man came in dumped her and left. It was only when they scanned her and found her microchip that they knew to ring me. I burst into tears on the phone. The poor woman on the end of the phone must have thought I was nuts.
I said I'd ring them back in the morning to arrange what to do with her. I'm going to have to go and pick her up because I want to bury her in the garden.
