I would call labour ward just for reassurance if it gets any worse during the night.

electra · 11/01/2009 23:14

Hello. Hope you're all doing good

Nothing much to report - I haven't had an anti-natal appointment for some time...but had to go back on my meds because of a stressful incident over Christmas.

But time is ticking by and all of a sudden it doesn't seem to be long until I am going to have this baby. I'm quite scared. haven't seen the baby's father since he left the UK in September. But in the last week or so I have felt that I am bonding more with the child.

I feel as if I should start buying a few things (although probably won't buy much anyway). I would like to buy a few cute girly clothes but I still feel a bit weird about it because of being told at the first scan that it was a boy. Also trying to think of names. I have a few in mind but keep changing my view and then worry my pregnancy hormones are making me choose an awful name I think I will wait until the baby is born and see what suits. If the baby is a boy I had only three names I liked and dd2 has just named her guinea-pig one of them so that's out, I guess!

Has anyone done their birth plan yet?

electra · 11/01/2009 23:15

NuttyTaff - hope you are ok. Maybe the baby is lying on a nerve? That happens to me sometimes although not severe pain.

BoffinMum · 11/01/2009 23:19

Nutty, I would be inclined to give the mw team a ring because you can't walk properly. But it sounds like round ligament pain because it seems to be a sharper sort of pain, am I right?

Try massaging your belly a bit and see if it settles.

If it's any comfort, I get a lot of abdominal pain and sometimes even minor labour type pains, but they soon go away again.

If it's just pain with no bleeding, fever or sign of waters, and it subsides, then it's probably just growing pains, so to speak. But it sounds like you have got it quite badly tonight.

BoffinMum · 11/01/2009 23:32

Night night, and post in the morning to let us know how you are!

Boffin, I may try to find out about doulas then, if you think that I might be able to get a better deal as a student. It seems a bit daft because we both have really supportive family, but they're all so far away - same for friends.

Nutty, are you still up? How are you feeling?

What kind of pain is labour pain, if not sharp? I always imagined it to be sharp twinges?

electra, I've not done my birth plan yet, but I have started thinking about it. DP announced last night that he might want to cut the cord (after insisting for months that it's disgusting), so there's that... I'm also going to put in a written request for tea & toast afterwards I've been intending to research the benefits of leaving the cord to stop pulsating before cutting it (I've heard a few arguments either way for this - anyone know anything?) & trying to decide whether or not I can be bothered to kick up enough of a fuss about that and / or immediate skin to skin as opposed to after the baby's been cleaned up a bit.

I'm not sure what else to include - I'm intending to be fairly easy going with regard to pain relief & just see how it goes. If I need an epidural, I need an epidural... I'm tempted by the birthing pool, but only if it's free - I'm not going to insist on taking one in or anything. I'm really not sure what else there is to say? Anyone?

SpringySunshine · 12/01/2009 02:22

Caaaaan't sleeeeeep. Stupid baby. & I keep having weird heart palpitations. DP, bless him, is still up with me. But argh. I'm so tired & feel really crappy. & can't stop farting

I've had a really fantastic day today (massive lie-in with lots of cuddles, lots of great sex (perhaps too much ), gorgeous 4 course meal out, lovely shower together (after I'd spent 10 minutes standing in the bath in my underwear [the only place in the flat I can see my bump in a mirror without jumping around] being all neurotic about how horrible I look whilst DP stood in the doorway reassuring me)... Such a good day, but now I can't bloody sleep. Grrrrrrr.

conkertree · 12/01/2009 09:13

my goodness springy - i'm not surprised you couldnt sleep - all that action in one day.

i get the heart palpitations from time to time but i have low blood pressure just now and think its linked to that and standing/moving too quickly, or maybe a lack of iron i think does it too.

but maybe your's were just from your day of, ahem.. working out?

how are you today nutty? i've had a few really sharp pains but they certainly havent lasted for 15 mins so have always just assumed i've turned or moved too quickly. if you feel it today though, i'd give the mw a wee ring and just confirm its nothing to worry about.

Schulte · 12/01/2009 11:00

Morning. Nutty, how are you today? Hope the pain's gone. I had really bad period type pain for a few minutes last night but then it stopped again - oh nice reminder of what's to come!

Cutting the cord, haha you might want to take your own scissors. The ones they used for me were really blunt and the midwife was swearing and hacking away at the cord!

Bleuravin · 12/01/2009 11:23

Oh Nutty, hope you're feeling better this morning.

Eating- woke up twice last night with hunger and nausea like during the first couple of months had to go to kitchen and hunt for something suitable- ended up eating crackers and cheese. I think I'm going to make some oatmeal cookies today in case it happens again tonight. In some ways I'm not surprised about my hunger though because the two days previous I hardly ate anything. The baby has been pressing against my ribs and stomach I think (not possitive as don't really know what such things feel like, but it's been very tight and rather sore in that area lately like I've slept too much on my tummy on the floor or something...), but I've not been too ravenous. DH says that my portions are a little bigger than usual though.

Another child- DH asked me when I thought we could have the next child yesterday over breakfast. I just looked at him wide-eyed and laughed. I'd like to get through the birth of this one I think before I start thinking about the next...To which he said with a rather sly look in his eyes, 'how long do you think it'll be before you want sex again after the baby is born?' How can I possibly know that?

Hope everyone has a good day...I'm still transferring things between old hobby room and the new; I'm hoping to make a big dent in things today so that I can start going through all the stuff people have given us. That way I can make a firmer list on the things we will need for the baby.

BarbarellaNz · 12/01/2009 11:30

Morning Everyone!

Nutty - are you feeling better today? I hope it has gone and that you are not in any pain

BoffinMum - when is your first session with the Canadian? This is obviously good karma coming to you to balance out all the pain/discomfort you have felt during your pregnancy! Your nursery sounds fantastic! Am very jealous as our babies' 'nursery' will be the right hand side of our bedroom . Oh, the joys of living in a one-bedroom flat!!

Springy hope you managed some sleep last night - maybe you were a bit wired from all the 'action' yesterday! So glad to see your sex life is back on track!

ClaireyKitten your dh needs a good slap about the ears! I can guarantee you that if it was HIM that was pregnant and not feeling up to it he wouldn't let you near him! That's all you need right now - having someone tell you you're 'frumpy' grrrrrr - I think we need to get the posse together we mentioned on Friday and sort him out - breastpumps at the ready! Hope you've had a chance to talk about how you feel with him [hugs]

MathsMummy where did you go to see bulesque and have tea? Sounds great!

Nowhere near as exciting, but I went to see 'The Reader' on Friday night (Kate Winslet, Ralph Fiennes) was VERY good but rather harrowing. Also saw 'Slumdog Millionaire' yesterday - was EXCELLENT. Had lots of meals out over the weekend and feel bump is now bordering on freakish.....

BarbarellaNz · 12/01/2009 11:33

Bleuravin - with you on the night eating. I usually eat bananas, rich tea biscuits and full cream milk during the night. I also feel nauseous/weird during the night if I haven't eaten as much as usual during the day. My doctor says your metabolism is so sped up during pg, and this carries on through the night too. Oatmeal cookies sound like a very good idea...

BoffinMum · 12/01/2009 11:50

Hello all, back from hydrotherapy now. Nutty, you really have to get referred for some of this, because a lot of what you do is float around with huge floats underneath you, and any backache just goes.

I had not one but two sexy men helping me, the lovely Canadian to hold my towel and turn the shower on for me, and another one to carefully position my floats and help me with my exercises. Really, it was like the best spa on earth. I was only in there 20 minutes but I was exhausted afterwards, so I am back in bed now. I would have liked to take the lovely men home with me but apparently they are not available on prescription.

Springy labour pain is like determined period pain, not sharp pains.

Bleuravin I have to eat in the night as well. I now have a little midnight feast tray by the bed with snacks on it ready for the middle of the night. I have Dr Karg crispbread, peanut butter, strawberry jam, and a flask of diet hot chocolate. It works very well.

Barbarella Are you going to put the babies in the same cot or different cots in your bedroom?

BarbarellaNz · 12/01/2009 11:54

BoffinMum I also love Dr Karg crispbread - can eat half a packet without stopping for breath sometimes!

Ooohhh - lovely men in swimming pool...very nice way to start the day.

We are going to put all three in a cotbed with cot dividers between them so they don't roll on each other. According to the triplet books I have read, they like being together plus it gets them used to sleeping through each other's 'noises' (read: bawling/screaming/snuffling) Wonder if that means they'll learn to sleep through mine.....

conkertree · 12/01/2009 11:55

yay some more people online - was thinking it was a quiet morning.

great that the hydrotherapy worked well boffinmum - sounds lovely. will be interesting to see if it helps overall as well.

we wont have a nursery for this dc either - will be in with us for 6 months or so, then will be going in with ds unless we have sold our house by then (fat chance).

felling loads and loads of kicks today - is really nice to feel after quite a few weeks of not very much kicking at all.

I used to get up at 5am to eat cornflakes!

The Reader - def want to see that too, Ralph Fiennes is so sexy.

Sex after giving birth... I know of women who became pregnant again within 6 weeks but that's madness surely? All I can say is it hurt like being a virgin all over again, only 10 times as much. But then did have very bad internal tears. Good luck anyway

BarbarellaNz · 12/01/2009 12:00

conkertree - we are also putting our flat back on the market (tried for six months last year but no luck) but doesn't seem likely in the current climate. It's weird the way the kicking comes and goes - I had lots last week but this week it seems to be mainly back to first thing in the morning, in the bath and last thing at night. Do you think they go through quiet periods or is it that sometimes they sleep more?

Nutty - so glad you're feeling better. Maybe you could treat yourself AND baby to a nice pregnancy massage?

Bleuravin · 12/01/2009 12:07

I've managed to miss my MW appointment! I wrote it down for a week from today in my diary and on my calendar in the kitchen and when I called this morning to verify I was told it was last week Thursday. I was so looking forward to talking to the MW; I almost feel like crying in embarrasment and frustration. Now it's not until the 29th... I'll only have 10 weeks to go by then...makes me a little nervous again.

I had things to eat beside the bed in the early stages, but when I started feeling better I didn't restock- I'm going to have to again though, walking down all those steps and back up again is just no fun and I get all breathless which means it takes longer for me to relax and fall back asleep again.

One of the reasons I like going 'swimming' at the pool is because I can float around on my back and just relax a bit. It's strangely comforting and tiring all at once. It may well help you Nutty...I would advise looking into it too.

BoffinMum · 12/01/2009 12:08

Nutty, My waters never went with the boys - they were born in a caul, so will make good sailors, apparently.

Schulte, I had sex after 10 days after having the boys - I think the water birth helped here. I did not find it painful but I was somewhat nervous, it has to be said.

Barbarella, the babies will look so gorgeous, all the same cot.
