BoffinMum - doesn't that also mean they have the 'sixth sense'?

BoffinMum · 12/01/2009 12:13

Does it? Do you mean they are psychic?

I kept the caul for a bit each time and tried to dry it out, but it went a bit smelly TBH. I was not sure what I was supposed to do with it.

BarbarellaNz · 12/01/2009 12:16

Yes - it is supposed to be a sign of having psychic/spiritual gifts. Any evidence of this?

BarbarellaNz · 12/01/2009 12:17

Maybe I have been reading too many Victorian novels....

BabyBolat · 12/01/2009 12:19

Morning all - think I am going to have to change my sleeping patterns and become a night owl so it doesn't take me so long to catch up in the mornings

Nutty, very glad you are feeling better and Springy yay for you - those cow things are gorgeous - my DH said, why would we dress the baby up as a cow? to which I replied because I WANT TO and promptly ordered one!! We were having a bit of a difficult moment at that point (he had put the shelves up wrong and apparently it was my fault for not telling him - HE CAN READ!!!)

Boffin, just how serious does my back pain need to get for me to qualify for these two men.....

Re pains, when I turn over in the night I get really sharp pains under my boobs right across the top of my bump that actually makes me scream out a bit (happens every time I turn) and have A LOT of what feels like stitch all through the day normally on my right side but has started moving over to the left too.

I know this is a really stupid question but do you just 'know' when you are in labour - I know that you get show and your waters can break (although not one person in my family has ever had their waters break, all had to be broken for them) but don't want to overreact if it's not them and look like a fool! (which is likely!)

Barbarella - to be honest think you would regret having them in a separate room the amount of times you would have to get up - at least they are all there with you!

Am so glad you are all eating more too - I am starving in the night time and feel really sick when I wake up - this morning felt like a return to the first trimester with that gut wrenching fear that you are going to vomit on someones shoes on the train!!!

Lots of evidence - an acute ability to locate biscuits and sweets, wherever they are hidden in the house; a very obvious ability to pester parents for additional pocket money when said parents are at their lowest ebb; great evidence of monsters in the bedroom, especially under the bed.

BarbarellaNz · 12/01/2009 12:23

LOL BoffinMum They DO sound talented!!

Bleuravin · 12/01/2009 12:26

Lol Boffin There must be something to it

conkertree · 12/01/2009 12:27

lol boffinmum - the boffin household sounds like a lot of fun.

babybolat - everyone said to me before having ds that you'd just 'know' and i kept saying - but how will you just know. then when i went into labour - i just knew .

i had braxton hicks for a week or two beforehand and each time they started, i thought, maybe this is it - even wrote down some of the timings to see if any pattern, but they always went away again after a while. when i actually went into labour - my waters did break a bit - but not a massive gush - but then contractions started properly and they were different to the bh - had pain and were just a lot more intense.

saying that, my mum had a feeling she was in labour but no contractions with one of her three children, and not painful ones with her other two - think she was a very lucky person though - total of about 9 hours in labour for all 3 - and not much to push them out. am disappointed that i didnt inherit those genes.

BoffinMum · 12/01/2009 12:29

BB, you don't always know when you're in labour, but you are looking for various signs and seeing how many there are, before making an inspired guess.

  1. Show - I have only got this once. Up to a week before.
  2. Leaking - pants keep getting wet and it makes no difference if you go to the loo, you just keep leaking. This only happened to me the first time - they didn't break the other times.
3.Contractions - you are probably looking for a bit of a pattern, and for them to last longer than an hour or two with this pattern.

I think I probably don't notice the early part of labour usually, because I tend to go straight into it with contractions being a couple of minutes apart, lasting a couple of minutes.

BoffinMum · 12/01/2009 12:31

I think there does come a point where you realise it's serious and start ordering people about.

conkertree · 12/01/2009 12:36

and with hindsight, I wish I'd stayed at home slightly longer as I had to hang around having contractions in a waiting room sort of place (although was just for the labour ward so not lots of random people about) until the contractions were closer together since I didnt want an epidural, but at the same time, the hospital was 30 mins away, so think i might have panicked a bit if i'd stayed at home any longer in case it all happened quickly.

Nutty I did actually take the boys on a sailing holiday, but DS2 was a bit young. However they love boats and love swimming.

Barbarella Can you post scan pix of the babies on your profile??

surprisenumber3 · 12/01/2009 12:47

Butty - just came on to check you're okay - glad you are!

Regarding eating, I can't stop either. Have just had 2 crumpets with cheese on, a bag of crisps and a bowl of blueberries but could eat it all again! Can only eat what I really fancy still though. Meat still makes me heave!

click on my profile to see my little girl...she's cute

The last scan pictures we have are when they were 16 weeks (now almost 27)because since then you can't actually see one 'whole' baby - it looks like a family bucket of KFC in there! {grin}

surprisenumber3 · 12/01/2009 12:51

And Nutty, sorry for calling you Butting earlier

surprisenumber3 · 12/01/2009 12:53

OMG, I can't do anything right today...calling you 'Butty' not 'Butty'.

I really am losing the plot!

surprisenumber3 · 12/01/2009 12:54

BUTTING!!!!

Just ignore me, I'm confusing myself now.

BabyBolat · 12/01/2009 12:55
