New thread ladies. I have a feeling I will be talking to myself a lot

OP posts:

Arti - quite a few people were wearing black evening dresses so I was ok. And I managed to get a rose pink wrap and a rose pink and black fascinator. In truth I looked hugely fat but DP said I looked lovely so that made it better. Besides, there were 250 guests so easy to get lost in a crowd.

LadyThompson · 06/01/2009 11:05

Ooh, what's the tattoo?

artichokes · 06/01/2009 11:07

Its a Brazillian symbol for reincarnation. It sounded cool when the good looking tatoo artist in Camden Market described it to the impressionable 15 year old that I then was. It looks considerably less cool now.

LadyThompson · 06/01/2009 11:11

Wow. I'm much too much of a wuss to have one done and would have been so at 15 too. I'd quite like one really. I always regret not having my nose pierced when I was still young enough to get away with it. Besides, if I got a piercing of any description, other than the two in my ears, DP would leave me

kmp1 · 06/01/2009 11:29

after my CS I did get up really fast (totally drugged up) but I knew it was the fastest way to get discharged from hospital and feel normal again! I continued to take codine and ibuprofen at home for about a week and was able to get out and about after a few days. I did notice that as soon as the codine wore off i felt sore but the biggest problem was long walking days made for a lot bleeding which is apparently normal when very mobile? I haven't been on any painkillers since a few days after the c/s (i'm at 4 weeks tomorrow) but i do have all that tingling and numbness some have mentioned too. Apparently it's also normal. My tummy above the scar is a bit tender at times - almost a bruised feeling but it hasn't been so bad that i need to take anything - i'm sure we just all heal at different rates. I'm sure I did too much early on with all the family visitng, but if it hurts maybe go to the GP for a check up - better safe than sorry. I also took the arnica (altho sometimes forgot) so not sure if that really helped me - possibly it did despite the fact that i was really sceptical!
katie good to know about the gp and driving - I was able to move my appointment forward to today, so i will ask anyway while i'm there registering DS at my GP. I must ring the insurance company now actually.
WG glad you had a better night - I woke again after falling asleep feeding DS and again paniced! Must remember to sit more upright when feeding him - the other problem falling asleep is not winding after which probably makes the windy problem just build up and up...
Not sure on the poo thing - consistant wee ones are important though as far as i've been told so maybe not too much of a problem. Ours is the opposite - seems to do way too many 'follow thru's' and we are going through loads of nappies? Anyone else in that boat?

kmp1 · 06/01/2009 11:42

arti where in SF did you live? I lived there for about 4 years.

kmp1 · 06/01/2009 11:46

oh and yes arti and ladyt - let me know when you want to brave Westfield as i'd come along too. Would it be wrong to stop at the champagne bar with a 4 week old strapped to my tummy? A little too Patsy & Edina possibly?

LadyThompson · 06/01/2009 11:50

You say that, KMP, but I was due to give DD a bottle and I seriously thought of having what my DP calls 'a spot of cheerfulness' whilst I was about it. I decided the chairs were too bony looking to rest my arms, but I'd be prepared to give it a try

kayzr · 06/01/2009 12:07

Hello,

WG I'm really glad you had a decent night. Long may it continue.

I went out this morning with both boys and it wasn't as bad as I thought. I might need to buy a decent backpack to put the shopping in though as I found it a bit hard to push the pushchair and carry the shopping.

I am having my hair cut tomorrow, I went and made an appointment so there is no backing out now. I am really excited but not 100% on what I want doing yet.

HV coming this afternoon to weigh DS2, hopefully he will have put on weight.

kmp1 · 06/01/2009 12:15

at "spot of cheerfulness" I love that! I didn't really get a good look at the chairs as DH was getting anxious at the crowds and shopping in general, and he was making a B line for the carpark when we visited in the first week of opening! We could always find somewhere more comfy though!
Someone said about heating on constantly - yes that's me - and i'm terrified about a bill coming as I've also had family here for 3 weeks who were acustomed to 35 degree heat and were constantly cold over here! We also had the fire on most nights!

katie3677 · 06/01/2009 12:28

Kimberley, DD has a terrible rash on her face which started off as little pimples, and is now crusty sores, not very attractive. HV said it was normal and as DS had it at exactly the same age, I guess it is, for my babies anyway. With DS I took him to the GP in a panic and was given steroid and aqueous cream to rub on frequently, but I don't think either made much difference. Lily's is clearing up on its own with just using water to wash her with, so am sticking with that this time around.

jumpjockey · 06/01/2009 12:32

So, today is making up for yesterday's easy one... currently wearing a grumpy little madam in the sling over my dressing gown with detuned radio in one hand ans swaying. Must look like the local nutjob. She was feeding on and off pretty much constantly until about 4.30am then got woken at 5.30 by the phone (see below...) and since then hasn't slept for more than 10 minutes. She's fed herself to sleep 3 times since 9 am but each time I try and put her down she wakes up again. Sling currently not doing its usual trick. Sigh. i'm sure she'll get tired eventually [optimistic face]

They changed the alarm code at DHs work and one of the staff members who goes in super-early didn't know this so she typed in the old code 3 times which set the alarm off anc called in the police, and the alarm response co. Unfortunatley it's DH's day on teh rota to be emergency response, so he had to get up at 5.30 and go out in -4C and hang around for a couple of hours while they brought in an engineer to reset it. And got home just in time for a shower and breakfast and headed straight back for the day... he's in the spare room at the mo and the phone's in our room so I got to answer, oh joy
wg so glad you had a better night

kimberley the rash is meant to be entirely normal, something to do with hormonal changes over the first few months.

kmp the nappies thing, oh yes... she's on no. 4 so far today. Favourite trick is to wait until the new nappy is under her bum then pee for britain, usually in a big arc (how does she do that? she's a girl!) so it gets the changing mat as well and then soaks up the cover to get her clothes as well.

katie what arti says about poos, they get very efficient at digesting the milk and hardly anything's left to come out the other end. Mmmm lovely!

incidentally is anyone using cloth nappies for their dc? I've been investigating but haven't taken the plunge yet - and really don't fancy it given the number she's getting through at the moment. Ironic really, surely it's when she's getting through lots of nappies that using disposables is really bad. sigh again...

arti/turnip ditto re the scratchy hands, I try to hook her onto a piece of clothing but it doesn't always work. My skin also feels really dry during feeds which I guess means not taking on enough liquid [bad girl]

ALL HAIL! she has nodded off. Anyone like to lay a bet on how long it takes for her to wake up after I put her down and attempt to have a shower?

just to finish up thenb - verso fetility awareness, is that where you check your cervical mucus (mmm!)? I'd be interested to know more about persona, hormonal contraceptives utterly kill my sex drive and condoms are only as reliable as the users, ahem

reban · 06/01/2009 12:35

we too have had heating on constantly, but its too cold to turn it off, so will just have to grin and bear it when bill comes in. is anyone else avoiding tkaing their LOs out in this subzero temperature? Ive yet to take joscelyn outside for any significant length of time and i really dont want to when its this cold. I will actually have to from tomorrow as i will def have to do school run in the afternoon (have managed to convince dp to do it this morning and tmw morning) and we have gone out, its just been in the car, so only having to walk from car to buiding. Weather just seems so harsh i want to stay al wrapped up and snuggle warm with her (for my benefit too )

we had a better night last night to, took several hours to settle but Joscelyn slept from 11.30 to 3.30 then we all dozed together after that - officially the longest sleep of her night. And i also wanted to say, whoever recommended holding baby up, under her arms to relieve some wind seems to really help. You may not get an immediate burp but it def seems to make it easier to realise in the long run

penny99 · 06/01/2009 13:14

KPM - we are going through the passport debacle too. Veggiemummy mentioned that Australia house have a ticket system but we actually had to make an appointment. We got the citizenship form off the internet, filled it in and sent it. At the same time we made an appt at Australia house for the passport. We received the citizenship form today and have to take it with us to the interview. The other thing to watch out for is the passport photos - the baby needs to have his eyes open for the Australian passport photos but not for British passport photos which not all photo places know. Its also a pain in the a*se trying to get baby to open eyes on demand!

Kimberly1979 - my DS has same 'pimply' rash that you are describing. They started on his face and then he had some on chest. Still has them on face and from what I have read and been told, its normal.

Is anyone expressing milk? I am keen to have some milk so that my parents can do a feed every now and then and I can escape for a meal with DH. I am confused about whether to express at the same time as a feed or another time? Have an electric/battery express pump.

Bisou · 06/01/2009 13:21

Hi lovely ladies. I've been really bad with catching up on the personals, but have a new list. Of the people we still hear from, I think we may only now be waiting for birth details from Kimberly1979 and missmama.

Loving reading this thread. Will have lots to say soon, but hope a new birth list will do for the meantime. xx

Kimberly1979 · 06/01/2009 13:28

bisou

Judah Michael Reid
born December 27th 2:24 am by emergency c-section

Kimberly1979 · 06/01/2009 13:30

oops nevermind... you got it already

glad to hear the bumps are normal. we were getting a bit worried!

Bisou · 06/01/2009 13:34

oops sorry Kimberly I did have it there too. Can I blame tiredness?

Sorry Effie accidentally left off the birth weight for you, will update a bit later (just in case we hear back from missmama soon)

Bisou · 06/01/2009 13:43

also regards rash, Joshua has millaria at the moment (not helped by heat between mum & bub skin to skin when feeding) although I know ours is mainly because it's so blimmin hot over here. Twas 29 degrees in bub's room today, we've been sitting in front of the evaporative cooler all day and I sent DH out to buy a proper air con unit for us today so looking forward to being a bit cooler tomorrow. We also have a bit of nappy rash so have DS lying beside me asleep as I type this, with nappy off but a few layers underneath & a dry facewasher over his bits to prevent an accident on the couch. Am tempting fate I'm sure...

kayzr · 06/01/2009 13:47

Oh I want to win the lottery. I have just seen the Qantas advert for the new airbus A380 now flying between here and Oz. I am a bit of a plane freak and would love to go on one of those.

Just to fly to Sydney, do a day of sight seeing and fly home would be enough for me.

Maybe I'll go to London for a weekend and go plane spotting.

kmp1 · 06/01/2009 13:53

lol kayz i just saw the advert too... thought at least they'd fly it non-stop as they are able to... But on the QF schedule it stops in Singapore Flight is QF31 - bugger as non-stop would have made my life easier with LO now!

kayzr · 06/01/2009 14:25

Yeah I thought they were non-stop too. Its not as expensive as I thought it would be. But they do have a bit of sale on.

HV has just been and DS2 is now 10lb 10oz. That has really made my day as he is now over his birth weight.

Bisou · 06/01/2009 14:27

Oh how I'd love a visitor... am very at all the meetups, I'm with veggie there. Although are you still planning to move to Sydney veggie? We could have our own little catchup then!

kayzr · 06/01/2009 14:34

I do agree with the meet ups. I am very jealous.

Maybe we'll have organise a Yorkshire meet up.

I have a cousin in Oz but I can't remember where and neither can my Dad. He thinks it is Perth or Adelaide. I have another cousin who is thinking of moving to Sydney. He has a job but he isn't too sure yet.
