The thread was getting far too long and taking ages to load.

London meet is a week away. I don't have to get the train until 10.30 this time Could someone tell me which tube line to get from Paddington?

Also, Nogger, if you are in London area (or even Wales as some are coming from there) we are haveing a meet-up lunch tomorrow. You are more than welcome to join us. I know it's terribly short notice so I understand if you can't come. But there is an extra seat at the table, so if you want to join in the fun, you are more than welcome.

Hello again. Thanks to everyone for the reassurance - but the test this morning came back clear, so everything is fine. It's not that diabetes would have been the end of the world, but it is one less thing to worry about, and I'm very relieved that it's OK. Having been so careful about what I ate over Easter, I might celebrate tonight with just a little Mars bar...!

As of tomrrow, I am three quarters of the way through this pregnancy! 10 weeks to go, give or take - it doesn't seem very far away. I am really organised though - I'm one of those people who hates to be unprepared. Just about the only thing I need to buy now is some nursing bras. Keeping my mum out of Mothercare is something I'm never going to achieve, though!

JonahB · 01/04/2005 13:27

Jenny, glad the results came back clear. I'm still waiting the results of mine.

Hi Nogger (waves)....Glad you've come to say hello.

Lua, lol at your daughters colouring. I am working on the same premise you were. I was hoping the eastern european genes would do their stuff and produce a dark haired, dark eyed baby, but I realise there are some blue/eyed strawberry blond genes on DH's side of the family who could scupper my plans .

Lua · 01/04/2005 14:57

I am back from yet another appt! I'm getting really sick of them! It is nice to see the not so little one again, but is such an ordeal to get to the hospital!
Ok, I'll stop moaning... He is growing at a constant rate and don't seem to have noticed that I've lost 2 lbs in the last two weeks! Fluids looked fine too, so drs. are happy with me keeping the domino scheme for now, which I am very happy about it!

Welcome Noggermum! I am another occasional trasher of the May thread... I'm due June 3rd, but if DS to be continue to grows like a rugby player, I might pop in May, which I won't complain!
I also find this second (and last!) pregnancy so much harder! It must have to do with not being able to take it easy!

Hope the southeners have a great time in the meeting. Do let us all know about the gossip!

katzguk · 01/04/2005 15:03

Noggermum · 01/04/2005 15:11

have added to stats thread. Not in London (anymore) but enjoy the meet up - anyone from Yorkshire?

PinkArjuna · 01/04/2005 15:36

Right I have my change for the station car park and I am ready for the meet tomorrow

Uwila - I was born with an afro Even if that is one of the only things I know about my birth. black babies do seem to be born with more hair though a woman who was doing my hair the other day - her two were born bald but had a full head of hair by 3 months. so I hope even if he's born bald he'll grow hair asap.

Hello Noggermum
Welcome back Mcmudda and JennyWren!

Noggermum, Mrs. Wednsday is in Leeds. There are a few others like me (in Manchester) in the area. We had a meet-up last month that was a lot of fun. We shall organize another one once babies are all here!

PinkArjuna · 01/04/2005 16:21

Is there any value to childrens tv these days? I must confess I do watch Arthur and the rugrats and they are enjoyable. But those of you with children already, do your little ones actually like those awful programmes like the Tweenies, Fimbles, Teletubbies and Balamory? Also I am watching this monsterous programme called crush now, it is the worst TV noise I have ever heard. If I was a young child The fimbles would scare me into never watching tv again. but do the kids actually like it. My one friend says her little boy is afraid of them and won't watch them at all because he cries as soon as they come on. I couldn't leave this trash on the tv and stay sane.

DD 21 months obsessed with "teytubs" and "Wowmo" (Tellytubbies and Roly Mo to you and me). Re-watched Bod and bagpuss the other day, both of which I remember very fondly, only to find that they were, basically, pants. Hurray for TTubs and Fimbles, thats what i say!

Lua · 01/04/2005 16:47

My DD adores teletubbies, barney, Tweenies and fimples. Its kind of ironic because my husband detest them. From a mummy perspective I think they are great for a young age. Although I confess that I couldn't see the point of it before I could "see" the world from a 2 your old perspective..... It is just amazing how many times DD can repeat the same sentence or sing the same song again and again!

LipstickMum · 01/04/2005 16:50

Hi everyone and Welcome Noggermum and welcome back JennyWren

Busy day today, pretty tired here, have my nieces staying too (plus parents and dog). Only one niece actually sleeping here, but we tend to 'hang out' at our place as it's nearer town and we have a DVD player!

Looking forward very much to the lunch tomorrow! Can't remember if anyone 'new' is coming or if it is the same group as last time??

Pink, if I remember I'll bring a few piccies of dd with me at various stages of hair growth! She was born with hair, then lost it on top and looked like eric Morcambe for a few months, before growing a whole mass of curls. It's still very short though, because it's curly, if it were straightened it would probably be a lot longer. still, dd is only 'one quarter' black, so her hair is more than European afro. There are 1 or 2 threads about afro and mixed race hair on the muti-cultural threads that make interesting reading. I was born with a massive head of curls and there aren't any pics of me having lost them!!

As for tv, we only have the normal channels, no freeview or Sky, so my dd doesn't have great access to all that's available. At 22 months she's not interested in Arthur or Rugrats, way beyond her. She does love Balamory, Tweenies, Fimbles etc. (never seen Teletubbies) I'm afraid. I should say that she gets excited when they come on, knows some names, but wont stay glued for the whole show. She does however, love the programmes with real people like uummmm the one where the guy signs, whatever it's called. She also loves the Cbeebies presenters and their little songs and stuff. I never would have guessed she would love all that bollox, but she does... and it's a lifesaver at times!!!

charleypops · 01/04/2005 17:04

Hi everyone

Hi Nogger! Welcome to the June thread. What a shock for your sil having a boy!! I wonder how ofter this happens?

Welshie - why does your dd want a pretend cake? I wish those sort were the ones I craved..

Tea - glad you had a nice break, shame about the rain. Is that it for breaks then until mat leave?

Jonah - good luck with your sugar test - Jenny, glad yours was ok.

Re bald babies - My sister, 13 years my junior, was born bald and had no hair for about 2 years (we called her "Peanut") and we were beginning to think it would never happen - but then oh my goodness - It grew and grew into a huge thick ginger mushroom. It's still like that now if she doesn't put loads of product on and iron it - poor thing I love it when she leaves it bushy and wild personally, but she's too prim

Lippy - What a houseful! Especially with all that building work

PinkArjuna · 01/04/2005 19:48

I'm going to be such a cruel mummy - I think I'll loose my mind if I hear tweenies/fimbles from anywhere inside my residents. I think I am going to import some frech language disney films and bubba will have to make do...

Evening all!
Welcome Noggermum! Welcome back JennyWren, Jonah and teabelly!
Am very of everyone going to the meet-up! Have a good time...
My news: well (there's a thread on it on Pregnancy - thanks Lua for your reply!), rang for my varicella results today and was pretty flabbergasted that they were negative (i.e. no chickenpox antibodies, although I really thought I'd had it and so do my parents!) and even more so that the doctor refused to give me ZIG. Rang my MW for a second opinion and she at first thought I should have it, then put me in touch with a specialist lab and I had a good chat to a doctor there who said the circumstances as a whole (unlikely I caught it, baby wouldn't be hurt etc.) would make him tend to not giving me it. Apparently I could still be immune despite the lack of antibodies! DH reckons I should have the blood test repeated - looks like I'll have to anyway, just to check that no infection emerges.
Had my first ante-natal class yesterday - we didn't do a lot, the MW talked loads and loads, telling lots of stories, anecdotes etc., during which I grew to really like her. Then we paired off and massaged each other - that was it. I think (hope) we'll be getting down to some business next time...
The day (today that is) finished off on a not-very-harmonious note with some work stress (partly my own fault too, grrrrrr) but trying to chill out now. Am back teaching next week and not looking forward to it, not because I don't like it but because I'm not sure I have the stamina right now...

uwila · 01/04/2005 21:58

Sorry Berolina, but it does sound as if you've escaped catching it. I think I'm with your DH. I wonder if the antibodies did their job, but the blood test didn't pick it up. Well, if chickenpox didn't/doesn't develop in you, then I would be inclined to think it couldn't get to baby.

And, who knows what they do with those bloods?!?! Last week I went to my GP for routine 30 week bloodwork. I asked to go to the GP instead of my hospital just because I didn't want to trek all the way up to QC. So, then they called me a few days later to say "the test was unsuccessful". They said there was nothing wrong I just needed to come give blood again and they couldn't give me an appointment for another 2 weeks (when I would be 33 weeks for 30 week blood tests). I asked what exactly they weren't able to obtain. She pretended not to know. Okay, they took 3 vials of blood, and they didn't come up with anything?!?!? Personally, I think they lost the blood, or dropped it, or left it out too long or something. So, I decided to go up to QC after all where I had a bit more confidence in their competance.

Oh, and I do like to name and shame. The morons who couldn't get it right were Kingston Hospital.

uwila · 01/04/2005 22:48

BTW, nanny saga is coming to a close. She gave me notice tonight... ah, what a relief. She actually gave it for 01 May. And, I asked her to stay until 13 May (to coordinate her departure with maternity leave). She is going to be a social worker, and I think will stayin the area. She said she'd come back to babysit Hannah now and then because I'm sure they will miss each other.

I'm so relieved that we have managed to establish a plan for a friendly departure. ahhhhhh.......

Scraggy, can't wait to find out your news! Are you getting married, too?

charleypops · 01/04/2005 23:36

Lynny - sorry you've been poorly - why didn't you tell us? We could've tried to cheer you up!

Berolina - poor you, what a worry! It does sound like you're fine though. I wonder why your parents thought you had had chickenpox? Must've been something else?

Uwila - was it you who got someone elses blood results by mistake a while ago?

I had a feeling your nanny would hand in her notice - well done! Solves a lot of problems and worry for you I imagine. How nice of her to offer to babysit though

Hope you all have a fab lunchie tomorrow Oo I feel like I'm a kid and that I'm really missing something

uwila · 02/04/2005 00:17

Yes, it was me. I guess my blood just looks like everyone elses.

I can't believe you are finking out on us. That's almost as bad as the fact that you are STILL pram shopping. Just buy one. It doesn't matter because you are going to ditch it for a maclaren in about 6 months anyway -- everyone does.

charleypops · 02/04/2005 00:24

I'm almost there with the pushchair honest! I just need to decide between a fixed wheel and swivel wheel....very compelling argument for and against....
