It'll be an alternative merry Christmas for us this year ;)

Fraz

Your friend sounds like a jolly good person. Colour fadedness.....

I have no utility room, no airing cupboard, no linen cupboard, just a set of nesting laundry baskets.

Ironing - hence the folding. I have a sheer horror of ironing (way too lazy), so I fold correctly as it removes the need for ironing. This is how I discovered that folding causes a warm glow of pleasure.

(grumpy sulks at lack of washing to fold and contemplates putting washing on but then considers environment)

FiKelly · 16/01/2009 23:29

right baby gymnastics or not i'm gonna try and sleep

OP posts:
frazzledoldbag · 16/01/2009 23:30

Yes detsy I think you might be right!
But I also knew a woman who used to take all the bedding off her (and her husbands) bed EVERY MORNING and IRON IT. Before making the bed again.

Now that is OCD surely?

Couldn't be bothered, TBH.
Although am a bit concerned that I may have a hand-washing fetish.....brought on by the horrible selection of winter bugs round here at the moment. Have very dry skin on my hands as a result but have avoided the vomiting bug so far .

frazzledoldbag · 16/01/2009 23:31

Oh but now I'm worried I've given grumpy ideas and she'll be ironing her bedding in the morning the minute she wakes up.
I am also a current victim of baby gymnastics. Nice but not good for a restful sleep.
Am GOING TO BED NOW.
Byeeeeee

frazzledoldbag · 16/01/2009 23:33

Ah no, now I've spotted my mistake. She'd have to take it all off and fold it. She doesn't iron. ahahahaaaa. See, I'm obviously sleep deprived.
Nighty night ladies. x

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 16/01/2009 23:34

Night all gymnastics here too, off to dream abut Fraz's fabulous utility room and Detsy's stationery/ary.

Momino · 17/01/2009 11:52

well, a lot of chat last night! We're nearly ready for a new thread... any name ideas . i'll think for a bit but have a blank mind at the moment.

I've weighed myself (just bought some scales) and have gained about a stone! i can't remember what recommended weight gain is as everyone's different but sounds like a lot to me. feels like a lot too, this baby seems bigger than the other two. doing gymnastics as well.

hope all well today.

EmmalinaC · 17/01/2009 12:15

Hello ladies

Am rather glad I missed last night's chat about linen cupboards - frazzled I am sure you would consider mine a disgrace. The only time it's neat is when DH has just had one of his 'sort outs'.

My LO is also doing lots of gymnastics at the moment. I guess at this stage they still have enough room to move around but are big enough to deliver some fairly major kicks!

Momino I've put on around a stone too and I'm also due early May. I read that from 20-27 weeks we should be putting on around 1lb per week but then after that only another 8-10lbs in the last trimester. So by my maths that means we can expect to put on another 10-12lb before we're done! I hope so - that would be a lot better than last time when I put on nearly 4 stone in total!

HtheH · 17/01/2009 15:31

I have put on over a stone and a half, but I did lose a lot of weight before I got pregnant so not feeling too bad!
I have an upstairs laundry room too, with labels and everything!!! I am incredibly anal, and drive my DH made, but think things will go to pot when the baby arrives, I am sure it will be good for me to let things go a bit in the house! Anyone else think that time is going quite slowly? I am now 23 weeks and longing to get into the late 20's so I can relax a little bit, 30 weeks will be a huge milestone for me, roll on the next few weeks. SO good to read everyone's news and hope all grumpy DHs are being a bit nicer. Thank you for all advice on flying etc. I know I am being silly. It is only an hour and a half after all.
We will need a new thread soon, how about something to do with Mayflowers blooming or something?
x

rosielady · 17/01/2009 16:40

Hi All!

i wanted to add me and my bump to the list as i have been watching the thread and note that there is no-one else due 26th May yet! (37yrs and DS age 3)
found it reassuring to read everyone's posts - look forward to adding more soon!

CoteDAzur · 17/01/2009 17:21

Hi everyone. I'm 21 weeks and I've put on 4 kgs (about half a stone).

I'm being very careful with what I eat and would recommend it to everyone - last time I ate everything in sight and ended up with +17 kgs weight gain and a 4 kg baby. Ouch!

llareggub · 17/01/2009 17:33

I suspect I've lost weight due to gestational diabetes. My thighs seem thinner and I feel narrower generally. Obviously my bump is bigger. I really wish I'd weighed myself now!

alapala · 17/01/2009 17:40

oh dear, and I've just had DS' rice pudding which he rejected. So much for my promises. Think I've put on 5 kg, but def going to make more of an effort this time..
AND I've BOUGHT THE BEE (in red). Done, spent, on way, just hope that DS2 is the same slender shape as DS1 or he'll never fit. Felt bad towards my pramette so have actually oiled it and cleaned it for the first time!

Sesthinks2009willbeagreatyear · 17/01/2009 17:43

Hello all! This thread is sooo busy, which is great, but I do struggle to keep up!

I wighed myself for the first time in a couple of months this morning and reckon I've already put on about 11lbs. I'm 24 weeks tomorrow.

I would love to know Anthea's folding techniques! Is it easy for someone to explain or is it on a website somewhere?

detsy · 17/01/2009 17:50

llare that has to be a benefit of GD then - a PITA generally but at least you won't be battling the bulge as much as some of us in the summer! I reckon I've put on a stone and a bit I think the recommended end of term gain is 20 kilos or it might be 10 actually - think I'll go and research!! 20 seems a lot??

Jennster · 17/01/2009 17:56

Cote I think your reasoning behind delaying a smear is VERY sensible. See I'd have just gone along with it if it wasn't harmful.

Hope everybody is well. I am 24 weeks today, had a mw appointment yesterday and everything is fine. Had dd's 3rd birthday party this afternoon. How stressful should these things be? I can guarantee ds will not have such a big one when he is 3 and his 2nd will be us at pizza express.

detsy · 17/01/2009 17:59

yeah its 10 - 12 kilos (22-28lbs) on average. I managed to stick within this last time and am hoping not be put too much more on now other than baby!

detsy · 17/01/2009 18:01

lol ses re the folding - I saw it ion the telly but must be on a website - i'll have a look as its on some weird channel on the TV that I can't rememeber

llareggub · 17/01/2009 18:07

I saw the folding thing on her programme but I think it is demonstrated in her book too. Someone on here explained it very well, it might be worth ploughing the archives!

I think the recommended amount of weight gained in pregnancy depends on starting weight. I was overweight anyway so for me there is a real benefit to me getting GD. I do rather think I might stick to the "diet" post-birth and forevermore because actually it isn't too bad at all. Yes, I miss cake and jolly things like that but I'm rather more inclined to keep them as an occasional treat. I'd fallen into the baby circuit mistake of having yummy cakes and biscuits at every baby meet-up, class and post-natal group and we do quite a bit! Not anymore though....

CoteDAzur · 17/01/2009 18:09

detsy - I put on 17 kgs last time, and it was a lot. Water retention was pretty bad, too.

I think the advice is to put on about 1 kg/month. I can't eat any healthier than this, and I'm putting on 1 kg/month so think that must be the minimum - I'm eating vegetable dishes, soup, salad, grilled meat, and fruits. I've had maybe three plates of pasta, two pizzas, and three pieces of chocolate since the beginning of this pregnancy. I'm almost permanently hungry.

Anything for a smaller baby this time. Without meaning to scare first time mums among us, it took me about a year to fully recover from the episiotomy and apparently my best chance of avoiding another episiotomy this time is to aim for a smaller baby. DD was a first baby and was 4 kg 10 g. Second babies tend to be bigger than first, and boys tend to be bigger than girls. So I'm a bit worried about this second baby who is a boy.

CoteDAzur · 17/01/2009 18:12

Jennster - I had a mole removed after I was done with breastfeeding DD, and that is why doctor said we weren't doing the operation any sooner - we could take it out when I was pregnant but biopsy would probably show it to be cancerous because of pregnancy hormones.

I also had a bad smear & a LEEP operation to remove a chunk of my cervix (when not pregnant, obviously) and know that several months does not change anything as far as dysplasia is concerned.

EmmalinaC · 17/01/2009 18:15

Cote your willpower is astonishing - I probably have three plates of pasta, two pizzas and three pieces of chocolate A WEEK!

CoteDAzur · 17/01/2009 18:20

You wouldn't, if you lived through the torture that was the weeks that followed DD's birth, not to mention the year it took for the episiotomy scar to fully heal

I'll eat while breastfeeding

daizydoo · 17/01/2009 18:35

Cote I see your reasoning and understand where you are coming from, but I think that some of it has to do with genetics. I put on about 2-3 stone in my last pregnancy and had a 10lb baby (I lost it all the weight in 6 weeks!). He was long and thin with a huge head - I don't see how he could weigh much less. Also DH and his brothers are tall and thin.

Make sure you are getting enough carbs. I do have you say I admire your will power!

Oh yes and if anyone wants to come & tidy my messy linen cupboard feel free

EmmalinaC · 17/01/2009 18:39

Fair enough - I am having a c-section though so it doesn't matter so much if mine's a whopper

I had an undiagnosed thyroid condition after DDs birth so I actually put on even more weight while I was breastfeeding - can you imagine how depressing that was?!
